The Depression Era Quotes:
The only thing that could spoil a day was people. People were always the limiters of happiness except for the very few that were as good as spring itself. By Ernest Hemingway Find out about The Depression Era
Techniques of energy and money of depression Era
My parents were both born immediately after the depression. A large number of energy saving techniques they have insisted that while we were growing up seemed ridiculous to me at the time, but now they are meaningless. The methods used to save money also save energy and help reduce our carbon footprint.
You may already have some of these things save money, or you may not have to worry about money offering. If not, remember to save the planet. The amount of carbon that we, especially Americans, say in our atmosphere is damaging our planet and contribute to global warming.
If you are newly aware of the danger to our planet, or are new owner who needs to save money, try the following tips to help reduce your budget and carbon footprint at the same time.
- Turn off lights when you leave the room, even for a few minutes.
- Lower the heat in rooms you use not.
- If you have central heating, put on a sweater and lower the thermostat a degree or two, even one degree will save you money. Lift the summer to save on air conditioning costs.
- Using the sun to heat the extent possible by opening curtains during the day and close them at night to prevent heat loss.
- Seal windows and doors for drafts, even if you have to use plastic for windows and a rag rug at the bottom of the door, he will make a difference.
- Clean baseboards, radiators, registers and air filters frequently.
- Take shorter showers, heating water is one of the greatest energy requirements of most houses.
- Take showers not baths. Showers use less water. Less hot water saves energy.
- Do not place not the refrigerator or freezer door open.
- Match the size of the pot on the stove eye.
- Use a pressure cooker, this takes less time and consumes less energy.
- Do not open the oven door during cooking, you lose about 50 degrees every time you open the door.
- Wash your clothes in cold water.
- Hang your clothes to dry.
- Rake, do not blow the leaves, exercise will do you good.
Thank you to our parents and grandparents, we know a lot of things we need to do to help save our planet. Returning to habit is something else. But the alternatives are unthinkable. If we act now we may have serious trouble on the road.
