what is the oregon state definition of an aid animal? does therapy for post traumatic stress disorder count?
My husband is currently reciving treatment for post-traumatic stress from being overseas with the army. His therapist told him to play with our dog, as it is a good stress-reliever. Since our dog is a grouchy old fella we got a kitten to love. Now our apartment manager tells us we cannot have a pet under 1 year old unless it is an "aid animal". Since the kitten is part of his therapy, does it count? I know he would be very upset to have to get rid of his kitty.
Have the doctor write a prescription for the cat. Not qwuite the same as for medicine but the cat is medicine so to speak. A letter from the doctor should be enough for the land lord. Be sure not to let the cat dammage his property though. Beyoun that you can go to legal aid and have them check it for you. they may write a letter as well.

Ptsd - Treating Trauma and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder With Hypnotherapy
Most of us experience trauma of one kind or another during our lifetime. It just seems built into existence. Indeed research suggests that from 50% to 90% of us will have to cope with trauma at one time or another.
Psychological trauma is the result of experiences that leave the person feeling overwhelmed and somehow unable to cope with and fully process the feelings and emotions produced by those experiences.
With trauma, the subconscious mind has been shocked by an event, or a series of events, and this has profoundly affected the functioning of the individual.
Powerful though it may be for the traumatised individual, on a psychological level the experience itself is somehow less important than the individual's perception and inner response to that experience.
This explains why a similar event may very well be shrugged off by one person yet creates real difficulty in another. What may be a traumatic experience for one may not be traumatic for another.
Trauma itself can happen at any time on the life journey.
It may take place in childhood, and occur as a result of experiencing or witnessing psychological or physical abuse, or extreme poverty, for example, and it can leave the child traumatised well into adulthood.
Or the trauma may have happened later in life, having its origins in abuse, accident, violence, crime, war, death or natural disaster.
Difficult though trauma may be, around 8% of the population will develop the more devastating form and symptoms of trauma known as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD.
Left untreated, PTSD can have truly dire consequences for the individual, seriously affecting his or her relationships and ability to function on a work or an interpersonal level.
PTSD often results from an experience or experiences that threatened real physical harm. Sometimes, however, it can be caused by psychological and emotional trauma where there was no actual implication of physical harm.
Very often, though, it combines aspect of both of these.
While Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is in fact a chronic and severe emotional response to trauma, it differs from traumatic stress or combat stress in that it is usually much more intense and not at all transitory in nature.
In the past, PTSD was also known as shell shock, battle fatigue, and post traumatic stress syndrome.
It isn't necessary to have been in a war setting to experience PTSD, however, any real shock to the system - such as a car accident or a death, drug addiction or sexual assault - can bring it about.
Regardless of the cause, the trauma symptoms that result are very real and distressing for the person unfortunate enough to experience them.
Those suffering from this kind of trauma may experience chronic and acute anxiety, anger, disturbed sleep, disruptive thoughts, flashbacks or nightmares. Often they find it very difficult to talk about the events that caused the trauma.
Because of their disturbing nature, they find it difficult or impossible to effectively deal with and integrate these things on the subconscious level of the mind.
And this is where skilfully applied transformational hypnotherapy can be enormously useful, providing a trauma treatment that can lead to a full trauma recovery.
Working with a professional and highly skilled transformational hypnotherapist, the subconscious mind can be taught to re-process the traumatic experiences of the past so that the damage becomes neutralised and undone.
The fact is that, despite the fearful expectations and beliefs instilled during the traumatic experience itself, the person did survive. He or she did in fact make it through.
With the correct trauma therapy the actual facts of the traumatic experience remain, but the perception and the psychological disruptions once caused by those facts are forever altered.
Real and effective trauma treatment requires that the individual come to terms with what has happened so that he or she is then able to then let it go and move on with their life.
Of course, letting go does not mean that the traumatised person has to forget what has happened.
Yet it does very often mean that the person has to be helped to forgive any aggressor or any individual who may have been actively involved in the traumatic experience.
This is not for any religious reasons. Neither is it through any kind of altruism. It is simply because failure to do this simply keeps the person in bondage to the past, maintaining and supporting the damage - the continuing trauma stress, the ongoing emotional and mental trauma.
It needs to be stressed that forgiveness is for the traumatised person. It is not necessarily for the person or people who may have been responsible for causing the trauma. Indeed, very often the person or persons responsible for this remain forever unaware of the forgiveness.
But it is through real and meaningful forgiveness that the person is changed, released and set free. With the guidance of transformational hypnotherapy, the individual is shown how to forgive the past and in so doing heal and move on with their life.
If you or someone you care about is suffering from the truly devastating and debilitation effects of trauma, there really is something that can be done about it.
Working with a properly qualified and experienced transformational hypnotherapist you can put the nightmare of trauma behind you and move on with the life that has been put on hold.
With the right kind of help, you really can experience true trauma recovery and set yourself free of the experiences of the past.

How does post traumatic stress disorder effect war veterans?
i have to write a paper on post traumatic stress disorder, and how it impacts iraq and vietnam veterans. so i really nee some help looking for articles, and some ideas, okay so please help me out guys
well first off, everyone can get post traumatic stress from anything, its all mental, and i have it to be honest. Its not something you can control and its not something that is left unnoticed. You often catch yourself going through random flashbacks of a stressful situation. like I've noticed that when Im playing a video game, doesnt matter which game, but i was playing it and all of a sudden i was thinking about the stressful time that caused the post traumatic stress. and its like you re-live it temporarily, but some time had gone by because i had died on my game and my little sister had come in and asked me what i was doing. it causes bad dreams and makes you want to not sleep. depending on how bad it is. it just overall isnt something that is tolerable for very long

Anxiety - What is Post-traumatic Stress Disorder ?
Post-traumatic stress disorder also known as PTSD is a form of anxiety that can occur after the exposure to a terrifying event or ordeal in which grave physical harm happened or was threatened.
Traumatic events that may trigger PTSD include:
- Survivors of devastating earthquakes - People that witness traumatic events - Survivors of several accidents on the sea or air - Physical and sexual abuse or crimes - Major changes in someone's life - Severe accidents car or plane accidents - Violent personal assaults - Natural disasters or human causes disasters (bombs) - People taking part in terrorist rescues - People affected by racism - Military combat actions - PTSD often occurs in soldiers attending wars - Birth of a child can often cause PTSD (moms usually experience anxiety after birth and even during pregnancy). - Any type of family violation - Death of a loved one - Being fired from work - Divorce
Usually all the family members of the victim are disposed to develop post traumatic stress disorder. PTSD can occur in people of any age, and that includes children and adolescents.
Many PTSD sufferers repeatedly experience flashbacks, memories, nightmares, or frightening thoughts, these symptoms are most likely to happen when they are exposed to objects or objects that remind them of their trauma.
Common Symptoms :
- General Anxiety Disorder - Irritability or anger - Intense guilt or fear for no apparent reason - Emotional numbness and sleep problems - Severe depression - Mood Swings
Lets have a closer look at the most common physical symptoms in (PTSD) :
- Weak Immune System - Dizziness and numbness - Chest pain - Discomfort in other parts of the body, muscular tension - Gastrointestinal issues - Long term headaches
Sufferers often are treated for other causes than anxiety disorder. It happens often that sufferers think they have heart diseases, muscular problems or lack of minerals and vitamins.
Post-traumatic anxiety disorder can only be diagnosed if the symptoms last for more than one month. Symptoms do not occur immediately after the trauma, it usually varies, but they are most likely to occur within 3 months, it varies from one to another.
However some people recover in less than six months, others experience these symptoms a lot longer. Often PTSD may become chronic, and general anxiety disorder occurs. It can last for years if not treated in time.
There are lots of treatments available now, such as one to one coaching programs, which are completely natural and guaranteed, medication does help but they usually have bad side effects, they may reduce the level of anxiety, but in most of the cases it is not the cure.
General Statistics of PTSD
Studies have shown that 6.2 million adults in the US ages 18 to 58, approximately 4.6 percent of the people between these ages, have PTSD, the number is continuing to grow due to the high level of stress in urban areas. There are more women than men suffering from PTSD.
Treatment
One successful treatment that has worked for more than 40,000 people already is the panic Away program which is a one-to-one coaching, complete natural anxiety program mainly based on relaxation techniques and ways to master your thoughts to overcome PTSD and anxiety.

Chest pains or breathlessness are the early signs of heart diseases when the person feels tightness, burning pain, heaviness and pressure behind the breastbone. Mental health disorders can be treated under the supervision of skilled professionals like any other diseases depending totally upon the circumstances and symptoms exhibited by the person. Mental health disorders are very closely associated with coronary heart diseases. When the blood supply is cut off, the unfortunate result is the heart attack.
Heart disease facts:
Heart disease is related to two conditions, which are myocardial infarction (heart attack) and angina pectoris. Mental health disorders and heart diseases are two major causes for disability in a person. Exercise is the best potential way to improve mental health and they can slow down the risks of heart disease is.
It can cause adverse cardiovascular outcomes in the patients with the history heart disease. The symptoms of depression like fatigue, loss of interest in work and activities, loss of appetite, weight loss, and restlessness interfere with the normal functioning of the heart thus leading to heart disease.
Treatment:
Mental health disorder and heart disease can lead to extreme sickness and death. It has been established that risks of heart diseases is 2-6 times more common in patients having mental health disorders. Heart disease or cardiac disease is a general term used to cover all the malfunctions of the heart.
They are more likely to resort to smoking and drinking and thus leading to hypertension. Exercise relieves stress, strengthens muscles, gives confidence, and strengthens the cardiovascular system. However, symptoms of depression should not be confused with symptoms of cardiac failure or heart attack. There are several mechanisms which link stress and depression with cardiovascular diseases.
The pain is usually in the chest or left arm. High levels of insulin and cholesterol also increases the risks of heart diseases like heart attacks and cardiac failure. A healthy nutritional diet with regular fluid intake, fruits and vegetables, limiting sodium, avoiding foods with high saturated and trans fats like red meat, whole milk should be avoided.
Depression and anxiety also chronically elevate levels of stress hormones and thereby diverting the body metabolism meant for tissue construction needed to repair the heart diseases. Heart is one of the most important organs of our body. Only the health professionals can evaluate the heart diseases after conducting intensive tests.
Strategies for promoting a healthy heart: The diagnosis of heart disease in relation to other mental health disorders are the wakeup call alerting you to view your own habits that might be harmful or worsen the disease.
Mechanisms that link heart diseases to mental health disorders:
Psychosocial factors like stress, depression, anxiety, and other mental health disorders are the stronger risk factors associated with heart diseases when compared with other health defects. Smoking and drinking which are normally taken to combat stress should be avoided since they lead to increase in heart rate and blood pressure.
Mental health disorders lead to physiologic changes such as cardiac rhythm disturbances, hyper-cogulability and inflammation. These signs usually call for immediate medical intervention. If the oxygen rich blood does not reach the heart the person develops a pain called angina.
When the arteries carrying nutrients and oxygen to the heart become narrow and clogged, it results in coronary heart disease. Small portions of meal with low fat diets and protein rich should be taken.
One of the possible mechanisms is that patients with depression and stress are less likely to comply with medical advice. Prescribed medication under proper supervision, cognitive behavioral therapy which promotes adherence and behavior change, can increase the impact of pharmacological and behavioral approach to both the diseases.
It acts as a pump, which supplies oxygen rich blood to different parts of the body in order to maintain a healthy body. The support of your family and friends helps you in the transition to a healthy lifestyle. Hence, preventing mental and heart diseases plays a vital role in improving the chances of survival. Several measures can be adopted to reduce the symptoms of heart diseases.
I am so Tired. I have no energy for anything. I have been having some personal problems and a lot on my mind. Does it sound like depression? this morning when I was trying to get ready for work, my children were dawdling. and I was trying to rush to work....we all got in the car and on the go and then I felt this uncontrollable urge to just cry...I just wanted to cry. Now here I am in the middle of a work day and very tired. My back is hurting and now I feel like I am getting the flu or something. Too much stress. Advice please. thanks
It does sound like you are very stressed. I read a book about how when we don't deal with feelings, they can manifest them selves as "pain" one of the things it said about "back pain" was that it can come from feeling "unsupported" or it could be "money worries"
I actually used to sound a lot like what you are describing. I was even on the verge of trying an anti depressant (which is not like me at all because I personally only do natural therapies) Then a friend gave me something that changed my life. I now have energy, I feel optimistic, I even have mental clarity! If you would be interested in learning more about this natural product, please e-mail me via Y!A. I don't want to "spam" you, but this really has helped me and a lot of other people, and I really think it will benefit you as well.

Worry is interest paid on trouble before it comes due. By William Ralph Inge Find out about Stress Depression Pregnancy
Reduce Stress During Pregnancy
Many mothers during pregnancy face extremely stressful circumstances. Pregnancy is a nine month journey for both you and your baby. Pregnancy typically lasts 40 weeks (about 9 months). Stress-related changes in a pregnant woman's heart rate and blood pressure, along with chronic anxiety, can affect the heart rate of her developing fetus, a new study concludes. Maternal stress during pregnancy is also found to cause of asymmetry in coordination of ears, fingers, feet, elbows, etc. Maternal stress is also linked with imperfections in the developing nervous system which can lead to problems of perception, thinking, and memory. These mothers experience constant stress, shame, loneliness and, sometimes, clinical depression during pregnancy or after giving birth. Their partners or families may not encourage them to seek help because the problem it is not seen as a medical one. There are many negative side effects of stress during pregnancy. Very high levels of stress may contribute to an increased risk of premature delivery or low birth weight babies. Still other studies suggest that overly high stress levels can increase your heart rate, blood pressure and produce chronic anxiety.
Maternal stress during pregnancy is also found to cause of asymmetry in coordination of ears, fingers, feet, elbows, etc. Stress doesn't have to be bad especially when you take care to manage the stress you experience during your pregnancy. Eat a healthy, well balanced diet. Eating well will provide you the energy you need to get through the day, especially when you feel tired or overworked. Exercise has huge stress reducing qualities. Walking is another activity you can do in order to keep fit and reduce stress. Shortness of breath is pretty common among pregnant women, so if you feel like you've pushed yourself too far, take a rest then move at a slower pace. Water is highly important for more reasons than keeping your body hydrated. A common reason for headaches is a lack of water in the system. Try not to drink beverages in excessive amounts right before bed. Try some natural stress reduction techniques including biofeedback, yoga or meditation. Reduce your workload. If you find you are doing too much in a day find ways to delegate certain tasks to others.

Since I have been pregnant I have decided to give up my career in the Army since my husband is in and be a mom. Well that means a big life change. Now I'm on strict bed-rest due to pre-term labor and am staying home all day, bored out of my mind and the stress keeps pilling on. I've had a car wreck my back can't heal due to the weight of my belly, my truck is messing up, my finances are going crazy, my husband is leaving for Iraq possibly before the baby is born, I got bit by a spider and my leg is all swollen and it hurts to walk, and on and on. Now I spend all the time I have with my husband fighting over stupid things and it is really starting to get to me. I feel so lost and worried and sad. I know I need to do something to keep from losing it, but I don't know what. I want to be able to love my husband every second he is here, but I can't help the rage and uselessness I feel inside. Someone please help me.
Do you know any other wives in the military? If you do, call one of them up and ask if they could come over and hang out with you. Tell them it'a n emergency. Don't call any hags that will tell you to toughen up and get over it. They're the worst. There's no reason for you to have to suffer alone.Get your husband to go to the library and bring you books on dvd or cassette. Also tell him to go to the drug store and get some facial clay to put on your spider bite.Queen Helene is a good brand. Gob it on pretty thick and let it dry. It might take about an hour &15 minutes to dry while it's pulling the toxins from the bite out of your leg. Do it once everyday until the swelling goes down. Can you afford an at home massage? They have special pregnancy pillows that cradle the uterus so you can lie face down and get worked on. You sound like you need to get some stress relief and massage will really help. Last but not least can you buy a used small dorm sized frig to keep your bed?You could keep drinks and snacks near by so you won't have to get up and strain your leg too often.I'm not going to tell you to try to be positive , I only suggest that you ask for help from wherever you can get it and don't try to be a hero and suffer silently on your own.Try these few things and see if you don't feel a little better. Eh, we all fight with our husbands over stupid stuff.Don't sweat it. He has to understand that YOU need some extra sensitivity and caring right now as much as he does for having to leave. Most men are willing to do anything to shut us up, lol,so give the guy a chance to help you out. Hope this helps a little.

im breaking up with my bf of 3 years at the moment, im at work, and im having an anxiety attack- i think! i have a history of depression and anxiety and i've recieved medication to no avail. what im experiencing right now is that my heart is beating very fast with that very unsettling and annoying feeling of having ur insides shaking like an earthquake while remaining eerily calm and stone faced on the outside. im also very tired i can barely write this, im also feeling very nauseas. i cant go home now. can u plz help??

We are more disturbed by a calamity which threatens us than by one which has befallen us. By John Lancaster Spalding Find out about Ultimate Depression Relief
Exercise And Depression
Having developed my own personal training business, this happens to be a topic that I am very passionate about. Aerobic exercise has been proven to be a powerful weapon against depression, more powerful than most appreciate.
There is no blood test for depression, there are many kinds, and according to the World Health Organization, depression is the leading cause of disability in the United States and Canada! And now with the recession and more people out of work, there is no doubt that these #'s will continue to increase.
But there is hope! Whether you are clinically depressed, or just bummed about losing your job, there is a lot of cutting edge research that indicates you can self-create your own happiness by using exercise.
There is a clear and inverse relationship between exercise and depression, as noted by several studies including one published in 2003 by Columbia University, which surveyed over 8,000 people. (People who exercise the most are the least likely to be depressed.) But that's not all!
The issues with using drugs like Lexapro, Effexor, Etc is that the body and brain are a complex symphony of chemicals/hormones and whenever you target one chemical deficiency with an external drug, you end up messing up the balance between that chemical and the other chemicals in the brain and body.
To put it clearly, aerobic exercise, single handedly targets ALL of the neurotransmitters targeted by the entire class of anti-depressants. It better conducts the symphony of chemicals that keeps us happy, instead of adding more clarinets and throwing off the entire sound (as anti-depressants do.) This is incredibly important to understand, as many doctors and psychiatrists over prescribe anti-depressants, which as indicated by the research, do not work as effectively as aerobic exercise.
In addition, there are the endorphins from exercise, which create positive feelings and emotions (the exact opposite of depression.) As stated on Web MD:
These endorphins interact with the receptors in your brain which are our body's natural pain-killers and can provide relief from some of the aches & pains which accompany depression. They also act as sedatives. They are manufactured in your brain, spinal cord, and many other parts of your body and are released in response to brain chemicals called neurotransmitters. Endorphins also trigger a positive feeling in the body. For example, the feeling that follows a run or workout is often described as "euphoric." That feeling, known as a "runner's high," can be accompanied by a positive and energizing outlook on life.
Exercise has many psychological and emotional benefits when you have depression or anxiety. As stated on the Mayo Clinic Website, these include:
confidence - Being physically active gives you a sense of accomplishment. Meeting goals or challenges, no matter how small, can boost self-confidence at times when you need it most. Exercise can also make you feel better about your appearance and your self-worth.
Distraction - When you have depression or anxiety, it's easy to dwell on how badly you feel. But dwelling interferes with your ability to problem solve and cope in a healthy way. Dwelling can also make depression more severe and longer lasting. Exercise can shift the focus away from unpleasant thoughts to something more pleasant, such as your surroundings or the music you enjoy listening to while you exercise.
Interactions - Depression and anxiety can lead to isolation. That, in turn, can worsen your condition. Exercise may give you the chance to meet or socialize with others, even if it's just exchanging a friendly smile or greeting as you walk around your neighborhood.
Healthy coping - Doing something positive to manage depression or anxiety is a healthy coping strategy. Trying to feel better by drinking alcohol excessively, dwelling on how badly you feel, or hoping depression and anxiety will go away on their own aren't helpful coping strategies.
All of the benefits described above are excellent, and will help people recover from depression. But the most important aspect of cardiovascular exercise that you must keep in mind, is that it not only optimize all the "happy" chemicals produce in your brain and body, it also helps create new neurons! These neurons are created in the areas of the brain that deal with memory, learning, attention, and survival, and once created, can be utilized by the brain to create newer and happier behavior, habits, skills, and abilities.
In light of this information, it is not surprising that a study by James Blumenthal concluded exercise was as effective as medication (and I wouldn't be surprised if they eventually find out that it is MORE effective in most cases.)
Often, patients who use anti-depressants experience immediate relief, but do not FEEL happy, while exercise, as determined by Blumenthal, works better over the long term than medication. There was some evidence that the group that took exercise and the medication did not improve as much as the group that just exercised because the idea of taking medication took away some of the pride and accomplishment that the exercise only group achieved. (Perhaps the exercise only group experienced more self-efficacy.)
This alone is a very important thing to understand; when you give the power of happiness to a pill, you take away your own power to cultivate happiness. (Please understand that I am not completely against pills, and think that anti-depressants can be an important part of recovery for depression, as determined by a licensed psychiatrist.) My only issue is that we are so fast to look for solutions outside of the body and mind in this culture, and when we do that, we find solutions that are incomplete, short term and ultimately a waste of time.
According to Web MD, here are some questions you should consider before you begin an exercise program to address depression:
What physical activities do I enjoy?
Do I prefer group or individual activities?
What programs best fit my schedule?
Do I have physical conditions that limit my choice of exercise?
What goals do I have in mind? (For example: weight loss, strengthening muscles, improving flexibility, or mood enhancement)
I would also add that you should strongly consider engaging in recreation activities, hobbies, books, or crafts that you truly enjoy after exercise because you will utilize the new neurons in your brain to further develop you skills in that activity. (Shortly after the new neurons are formed in the brain, they need to be utilized so they can be integrated and connected into the network of existing neurons, or else the new neurons are re-absorbed and are not permanent). In this way, you can use exercise to both optimize you "mood chemicals" and cultivate an activity that provides you with happiness at the same time.
Exercise Prescription for Depression:
The research indicates that burning around 1.400 calories from higher intensity cardio is very effective in preventing and treating depression. (This works out to about 3 hours of moderate intensity cardio per week for a 150lb person.) However, it is important to start slow, and gradually build up the volume (total time) of your workouts first. Once you are up to 30-45 minutes of cardio, you can begin to increase the intensity slowly, although it only takes working at a perceived exertion of about 7/10 to have the required intensity to treat depression.
Also, be sure to set yourself up for success by engaging in exercise in an environment you feel comfortable in, focusing on small goals, and sticking with the program day by day for at least 3 weeks before making any judgments. It can be tough to get started and feel the benefits right away, but our bodies and minds are built to be happiest when they are moving and healthy.

Criticize these two poems please?
These lyrical rhymes that consume my time
Mean so much to me
My crys for help and my sighs of Relief
Are no match for the feelings that always defeat
Frustration, Anger, Depression and more
Tear my heart up like an open sore
My tears flow out
While anger stays in
As I commit the ultimate sin
Laugh, Smile, Dance around
As long as no one sees you frown
The guilt makes me tremor
The regret makes me cry
Sometimes I sit and wonder and ask myself why
Why did I do this
Why didn't I talk
Where did I go wrong
Why arent I perfect, like I want to be
Why didn't I go and set myself free
The people who love me they would have cared
But I dont think they know that im really scared
I guess thats the way that life goes
You just have to let your emotions go
They are both very expressive and poignant poems.
If I may, I would critique by revisions below
These lyrical rhymes that consume my time,
mean so much to me-my cries for help and
my sighs of Relief-are no match for the
feelings that always defeat: frustration,
Anger, Depression, anxiety, more.
Tear my gentle heart like an open sore.
My tears flow out While anger stays in,
as I commit the wrong ultimate sin:
Laugh, smile, dance; but don't let them see you frown.
I just use line breaks, formed two quatrain with 10 syllables each, and punctuation to make it flow easier while holding your readers' attention and focus.
The guilt makes me tremor.
The regret makes me cry.
Often time I sit and
wonder; ask myself why.
Why did I do this or
why, why did I not talk.
Where did I go so wrong,
and what should I do now.
Why am I not perfect,
longing, I want to be
Why did not I go,
and set right, myself free
The people who love me,
they would have cared a lot.
Yet, I don't ever think,
they know I'm really scared.
Is this the way life goes?
Letting your emotions go?
2 quatrain and a couplet, each line contains 6 syllables, and punctuation to again make it flow, and line breaks to hold your readers' attention and focus.
The above are just suggestions. Your poems are great also the way you have them now.
