Anxiety Child In Separation Quotes:

Fear makes strangers of people who would be friends. By Shirley Maclaine Find out about Anxiety Child In Separation

Separation Anxiety - Not Uncommon

It is not uncommon for young people ages four and older to suffer form a form of anxiety known as separation anxiety. If you have a child that suffers from such a problem, then read on. There are some things that you can do to help.

Typically, young people feel a form of seperation anxiety when they spend more and more time away from the family environment -- whatever type that may be -- in which they were raised. Being away from a primary attachment figure can cause people at least four years or older to feel some form of separation anxiety. A primary attachment figure may include a parent or parents, a caregiver, or other such figures. feeling a sense of separation anxiety is fairly normal -- except in very extreme cases that deter the person with the anxiety from living a normal life. For example, not being able to attend grade school as a child because of fear of being away from home is a severe type of seperation anxiety. On the other hand, though, being afraid of the dark as a child is not very severe and does not get in the way of living day-to-day life.

Seperation anxiety is a recurrent type of anxiety. It typically occurs over a time frame of about four weeks, at the least. A young person suffering from seperation anxiety often feels an enormous amount of worry, fear, or severe distress that causes them to become impaired from leading a normal life. This distress may take on one or more of the various forms: headache, stomachache, rapid heartbeat, difficulty breathing, and sweatiness.

Through research that has been conducted, doctors have been able to deduce that children that have a great amount of anxiety and are extremely fearful early in their lives often develop harder-to-treat anxiety disorders. For example, when a young child attends school for the first time, he or she may develop an anxiety from being seperated from a primary caregiver. If the anxiety does not go away within the first few weeks of the child attending school, and gets much worse as time passes, a severe anxiety problem is evident. This problem can effect the child doing well in school, making friends, and adjusting to life in general. A child with severe separation anxiety often has a very hard time controlling his or her emotions.

Children with separation anxiety often have a variety of symptoms. They may have a persistant worry about the well-being and safety of their loved ones. They may also show a large amount of sadness or dismay when separated from their primary caregiver. They may fall asleep easily if they are not around their primary caregiver. They may experience frightening nightmares in which they are separaed from the ones that they love. They may feel homesick, experience headaches, nausea, stomachaches, lightheadedness, dizziness, cramps, irregular heartbeats, muscle aches, and even vomiting.

Separation anxiety can be treated in a variety of ways. If the separation anxiety is not very severe, it can be treated with a little bit of therapy from a certified mental health professional. However, if the separation anxiety is very severe, the child may need to seek therapy as well as anti-anxiety medications. These medications can come in the form of SSRI's (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) or MAOI's (monoamine oxidase inhibitors). SSRI's are a newer type of antidepressants that have very few side effects, while MAOI's are older and have more side effects. What type of medication a child needs depends upon their individual case and body chemistry. Only a doctor in the field can determine what is best to take.

How do I deal with separation anxiety?

My son is 7 1/2 months old. His father loves him and thinks the world of him. I know it's not right for me to keep his son from spending the night with him. he been asking and then finally he just stopped. He does everything for his son or at least his family does. They want to keep him for like 2 weeks at a time. The only time my son spent the night with his father is when I was in the hospital right after my pregnancy. I was still having a lot of pain and stuff that I couldn't deal with and they kept me overnight. I later found it that it was gallstones. Every child needs a mother and father. I know his dad isn't happy even though he doesn't talk about it. I have only like let him keep his son for hours at a time like while I was at school or something and then go pick him up. I just love my son I can't help it and I know a lot of mothers deal with this. I don't got out a lot. I don't have friends I can hang out with so those kinds of answers won't work.

I wouldn't let him go for weeks at a time but you do need to let him spend time with his father. I would try to work something out with him where maybe he could have him every other weekend or even just one day a week. At least they would be getting time together then. I know its hard to be away from your baby! I don't like to be away from my son for very long either but just think of how important it is for them to have a relationship =) Good luck!!!

Stopping Dog Separation Anxiety

Is your dog showing signs of dog separation anxiety?

Is he acting strangely and doing annoying things such as frequent unprovoked barking or destroying your furniture?

What really is separation anxiety?

Separation anxiety is a case wherein a dog gets stressed out whenever his master leaves him alone; typical signs of separation anxiety are frequent whining, pacing, chewing furniture, scratching wooden doors, raucous behavior that involves frequent barking and many more.

These activities are strong signs that your pet dog is experiencing sadness and stress; this kind of behavior is his way of relieving the stress that he feels.

Ideas to help deal with seperation anxiety:

Separation Anxiety in Dogs

• Spend more time with your pets

Dogs that go through the separation anxiety experience need your help, as their owner you have the responsibility to tend for them and make them well.

In preventing dog separation anxiety, it is important that you spend more time with your dog; this extra attention will make him feel loved.

• Give him a space of his own

Dogs that suffer dog separation anxiety want to be beside their masters at all times, they are very clingy and will follow their owners wherever they go.

You are not going to be able to spend an unlimited amount of time with your dog so changes will need to be made.

Designate a personal space for your dog that will serve as his play area; this move will aid your pet to develop independence.

Don’t forget to pet your dog on a regular basis. This will show your dog that there is a proper time and place for everything.

• Train your dog

Dogs love to train; it gives him a notion that he shares a secure relationship with his owner as it enjoys having physical interaction.
Through daily fun training sessions, your dog will gain confidence and improved communication with you; they will mature faster and won’t act like spoiled brats anymore.

Separation Anxiety in Dogs

• Treat your dog with respect

Before heading out the door, give your dog a quick yet heartfelt goodbye.

Don’t overplay your goodbyes; avoid long and cheesy partings because they will only add up to the neediness of your dog.

Make partings short, simple and quick.

No matter how frustrated you are never yell or be violent to your dog.

You should consider that the problem is not your dog but the anxiety he is feeling, yelling or hurting him will only make things worse.

How can I stop my dog from freaking out when I leave?

I have an adorable 10 month old Bassett, who is trained and very smart. Except when we leave her alone. I am continously working on training (getting keys, sitting back down, etc). She seems to have super bad seperation anxiety. I can handle all of it except the barking. The neighbors dont enjoy it much either. Any proven tips or suggestions? Bark collars?
Just read over some of the answers - we do leave the tv on, she has king and numerous toys, a specific routine each time. We moved her from the crate to a 5X4 space because I hate crating.

If your dog barks or howls when you leave, it is no reason to beat him/her or scream or whatever else some people are advising you to do. The reason a dog does this is because it is a pack animal and as soon as it is alone, it is reasonable for them to feel anxiety and to express this in howling, whining, barking, tearing the house apart e.t.c.

Putting him in a kennel when you go out is a good idea (whoever suggested it) because it does offer security to him. Put some of his bedding and toys in it and maybe some things that smell like you, like an old jersey or something. Get him used to being in the kennel (which can shut) for small periods at a time e.g starting off at five minutes then 10 minutes and the night-time. Encourage him when he's quiet and behaving himself in the kennel but ignore him when he starts to whine or bark. Don't even look in his direction.

Before you put him in the kennel, try to make him sleepy or drowsy by playing with him, excercising him then feeding him and putting him to bed in the kennel.

I wouldn't recommend a bark collar because small sounds can trigger off the shock and then the dog is "punished" without a reason. If you are determined to get a bark collar, get the collars that release a calming scent instead of giving a shock.

Let me know if this helps or if you require more help. Good luck :)

Dogs And Seperation Anxiety Quotes:

panic at the thought of doing a thing is a challenge to do it. By Henry S. Haskins Find out about Dogs And Seperation Anxiety

Understanging how seperation anxiety impacts man's best friend

Our homes are almost never complete if we do not have something to cheer us up.  Aside from our children and our personal hobbies, the one thing that gives us great pleasure whenever we are at home is our pet --- which is usually a dog.

The dog is considered man's best friend and ranks first place as the most beloved animal on the face of the planet. No other animal has received as much love and care from humans. The dog is also one of the most exposed animals on t.v. and in the movie screen.  Who could forget the animal adventure classics like Rin Tin Tin and Lassie?

Dogs are domesticated, carnivorous mammals related to foxes and wolves.  Some of the most common breeds of dogs today are the following: Doberman, German Shepherd, Bulldog, Poodle, Chihuahua, among others.

Dogs are very loyal pets. Books, poems, and songs have been written to immortalize the unique  relationship between dogs and humans.  To this day, no other animal can match the qualities of the dog as a devoted companion and friend.

No wonder, thousands if not millions of people can be considered as true-blue dog lovers.  Aside from having a loyal "sidekick," many people keep dogs as pets because they see the hairy, cuddly animal as a "walking, breathing stress relief system."   Dogs help cheer us up especially when we get home from work.  Dog owners usually find their pet happily wagging its tail, ready with a loud bark to greet the master.

Dog Separation Anxiety

By nature, dogs are social animals. They enjoy the interaction with their human masters. Because of this deep attachment, dog owners sometimes have problems with their dogs.  One of the most common dog-related problems is called Dog Separation Anxiety.

Dogs are a pack animals. They don't want to be left alone. Some dogs will simply can't wait for you to come back home. Most dogs desperately try to get your attention by barking incessantly. Typically, your  dog would pace, whine, chew, and even scratch the door whenever you fail to go home at the time it was used to seeing you enter the gate. Whenever you leave your dog for long periods of time, it may be possible that it would suffer from separation anxiety.

What to do when your dog has separation anxiety?

If you suspect that your dog is suffering from separation anxiety, it might be wise to consider the following tips and suggestions:

l    Don't be so melodramatic when  you are leaving the house. Make any departures and arrivals low-key.

l    Show him whose the "master" of the house. You put every action you make in your own terms such as playing with him.

l    Discourage your dog from being so attached to you. Be aloof when greeted upon arriving home.

l    Maintain your distance. Do not allow the dog to settle down in close proximity. Give you and your dog some space. Do not call him and leave him here he is. It might be hard for you but it must be done.

l    Train him as much as possible.

l    Give your dog a special treat or a reward when he shows good behavior while you are gone.

l    Another alternative: Leave the radio or TV on while you make an errand. This will make your   dog think that it is not home alone.

l    Do not punish your dog.  Dog have fears and can also experience anxiety. The thought of being abandoned really scares them.

l    Invest in dog toys. It will keep your dog preoccupied or busy while you are away.

Indeed,  dogs have become part of our family and indispensable to having a fun and enjoyable home life.

How can i fix my dog's seperation anxiety?

she barks, cries, whines, digs, scrathes at the cage, chews things and most of the time won't eat when i'm not home and even when i walk out of the room for a minute. she does it even more when i put her in her crate, she really hates being in there. Any ideas on how to fix this??? she is 1 yr old, mix, i think lab and pit and some others too. 47 lbs.

You need to leave for short periods of time then longer then longer ease her into it. Also never make a big deal leaving or coming back I know it might be hard but you have to leave and come back without saying anything if your anxious over her she'll get upset and it makes her more anxious. just leave like its nothing for 5 min. then come back like it's nothing then up it to 15 min. and so on and so on this is what worked for our dog. If all else fails you can always get a babysitter for her she'll freak a bit when you leave but having someone there helps

How hypnosis And Hypnotherapy Work With The Subconscious Mind

As a psycotherapist who uses hypnosis and hypnotherapy, I must admit that it sometimes feels as if I have two quite different, seperate individuals in the chair at the same time The two certainly are related and they seem to know quite a bit about each other. They seem to have passed through some very similar experiences. But they simply don't seem to communicate well with each other. One person is entirely rational and logical; they analyze and compare, measure and debate. Whenever I talk with these people I make quite sure that I use the language of logic. The other person in the chair is remarkably different. They care nothing for logic. They make absolutely no demand that things be rational. They feel and they function on an emotional, rather than a cerebral level. I make quite certain that I use the language of imagination when I speak with these people. Of course, I don't actually have two different people in my therapy chair, but it can certainly feel as if I do. That first person, analytical and logical, is simply the conscious mind, while the other feeling person is the subconscious mind. Both are useful, indeed essential parts of the self, yet their nature is quite different. And often they can be at odds with each other. In order to better understand this it is useful to understand something of the way in which our minds work. You see, the conscious mind is that part of us that reasons. It is basically who we think we are. It is the home of will power and of conscious decision making. However, it is the subconscious mind that is the part of us which experiences emotions. It is basically who we feel we are. It is the repository of our habits and our beliefs. We also have a third part, and that is the unconscious mind. This is the part of us that is responsible for the smooth running of all those processes that we simply take for granted - our breathing and heart beat, the regulation of our body temperature, the functioning of our autonomic nervous system. It's what keeps things going when we sleep and when we are awake, without our ever really having to think about it or give it instructions. When clients visit me, it's most often because they have been having real problems with the way they have been feeling. Usually, they've done everthing they could possibly think of in order to feel better. They have tried to deny the problem, use will-power in an attempt to make it go away. They have tried to think it away; to conquer it with logic, telling themselves to 'stop being silly'. Yet nothing has worked. This seldom surprises me. In any battle between feelings and logic, the feelings will almost always win. We might fully understand that something is 'silly', but understanding that something is silly and letting it go are two very different things. This is simply because the true power of the human mind does not really lie in the conscious logical part, but in the subconscious feeling part. Usually the subconscious mind is working in a certain way because of an experience or series of experiences that happened in the past. The actual experience itself is in fact far less important than what the mind did with that experience; how it was processed and perceived - or misperceived. Based on past perception - often the perception of the child - a belief was born and this belief became firmly implanted in the subconscious mind, working as a piece of software might work in some powerful bio-computer. And if that perception was faulty, then it produced a belief that grew stronger and stronger, until it began generating and driving uncomfortable feelings such as fear, anxiety, apprehension, worry, depression and low self-esteem. The difficulty is that no matter how hard we try, no amount of will power is able to diffuse and get rid of it. The good news is that with hypnosis and hypno psychotherapy, we can reach into the subconscious part of the mind, talking to it in its own language. Because the subconscious mind forgets nothing, we can uncover the source of the difficult feelings - the misperception and the faulty belief - and we can realign it and re-educate it, thereby neutralising its power to disturb. Moreover, because hypnosis works hand in glove with the autonomous nervous system, we can even help it to work optimally, speeding up healing, bolstering the immune system, and even managing pain. If you sometimes feel as if there are two parts of you, and that they are at odds with each other then in many ways you are right. Knowing this, you are in an excellent position to help both parts function in the very best of ways. Through expertly delivered hypnosis and hypnotherapy - or through regular self-hypnosis - you can once more feel whole and at one with yourself and your world.

Could i have seperation anxiety from my kids?

i just had my second child 6 months ago and got my tubes tied. i went back to work because i figured we could live more comfortably if i did (not a must). ever since i have gone back to work i have been a bag of tears and dont know why. i was talking to my husband the other day and he said i was probably upset because i missed my kids and then the water works turned on all over again. i had postpardum depression with my first but not with my second. i have felt fine up until i went back to work. now at night i sweat all night long, im weepy feeling during the day, and even moody sometimes. also, i have started walking 1.5 miles every night. maybe i have just run myself down. i even feel sick in the morning. anyone ever experienced this or know someone who has? should i go to the dr.?

I experienced that when I returned back to work after having my daughter. I never went to the doctor for my problem, I just stayed home until she was 2yrs old..I believe most mothers go through this. I'm pretty sure it will get better!!!!!

Adult Separation Anxiety Disorder Quotes:

I have accepted fear as a part of life - specifically the fear of change.... I have gone ahead despite the pounding in the heart that says: turn back. By Erica Jong Find out about Adult Separation Anxiety Disorder

Social Anxiety Disorder; a Lot More Common and a Lot More Serious Than You Might Think

Separation anxiety is actually very common in children under the age of three, and it's normal for toddlers and young children to feel anxiety when a parent leaves the room. It's also very common for young children to feel anxiety and cry when being left at day-care or school for the first time. For most children, this eventually passes as the children become engaged in new surroundings and activities.

The problem occurs, however, in about 4% of children when this separation anxiety does not subside and is, thus, classified as a disorder. Children with this type of disorder typically experience extreme anxiety when away from home and separated from mom and dad. This usually manifests via extreme homesickness and even misery, and such children often have intense fear regarding the health and safety of their parents.

As a result, such children will often:

- Try to avoid going anywhere by themselves.

- Refuse to go to places such as school or camp.

- Refuse to participate in sleepovers.

- Follow a parent around all the time.

- Request that mom or dad stay with them at bedtime, or show up in their parent's bedroom during the night.

- Have nightmares about being separated from loved ones.

Closely related to separation anxiety disorder is social anxiety disorder, or "social phobia." This disorder involves an intense fear of social and performance situations, such as starting a conversation, performing in front of others, speaking up in class, participating in peer activities, etc.

As a result, children with social phobias tend to withdraw and avoid such activities, which in turn greatly diminishes the quality of their lives. It can also hinder their performance and attendance in school, and impair their ability to form necessary social skills and relationships. Research has also shown that, if left untreated, children with such anxiety disorders are more vulnerable to substance abuse, depression and comorbidity (two disorders or conditions that appear together).

So, what should parents watch for and what should they do if they suspect an actual phobia or disorder?
Part of the problem, of course, is that young children are often shy, and even adults can have anxiety about performing in front of others. Signs to watch for include:

- Reluctance or discomfort being in the spotlight.

- Avoiding eye contact.

- Speaking in a very quiet voice or mumbling.

- Avoiding conversations with peers, never inviting friends to get together, never ordering food in restaurants.

- Being isolated from groups, not participating in group activities.

- Being overly concerned and affected by negative feedback or embarrassment.

- Fear of being called on in class, reading aloud or public speaking.

When put into these situations, children with social anxiety disorder will typically have symptoms such as:

- Racing heart

- Sweating

- Dizziness

- Stomachache

- Crying

- Tantrums

For parents of younger children, experts advise the following tips to help children overcome or cope with social anxiety disorder:

- Don't speak for your child, but encourage the child to speak up, order his/her own food, etc.

- Encourage children to get involved in birthday parties, play groups, school activities, family gatherings, games, activities, etc.

- Reward and praise children for speaking up, starting conversations, etc.

- Role model the desired social behavior.

For older children, as is the case with the mother and her son who's away at school, panic disorder is a more intense form of social anxiety disorder. It is not very common in young children, but usually begins in adolescence and in the early to mid-twenties.

People with this disorder have "panic attacks," which are abrupt episodes of intense fear or discomfort and usually include at least four of the following:

- Palpitations

- Sweating

- Trembling

- Hot flushes or chills

- Tingling sensations

- The need to escape

- A feeling of imminent danger or doom

- Shortness of breath/feeling of choking

- Nausea or stomach discomfort

- Chest pain or discomfort

- Lightheadedness or dizziness

- Fear of losing control or "going crazy"

If children, or adults, have had such panic attacks, they will typically avoid situations where they have had previous attacks. When children and adults begin avoiding public places (places from which escape might be difficult), "agoraphobia" can develop, severely hindering normal participation in situations such as school, work and life.

The bad news is that, because the symptoms of such disorders often mimic conditions such as heart attacks, thyroid and breathing problems, the true disorder is often difficult to diagnose. People who suffer panic attacks often make numerous trips to the doctor or emergency room.

The good news is that, once properly diagnosed, treatment can be highly effective. Therapists often use a combination of cognitive and behavior therapies, referred to as Cognitive-Behavioral therapy (CBT), in which the patient is involved in his/her recovery, has a feeling of control, and learns skills that are useful throughout life.

Relaxation techniques - such as breathing retraining and exercise - are also used and help people with anxiety disorders to cope more effectively. Medications, including some antidepressants and anti-anxiety medications are often used in combination with the previously mentioned therapies. And, of course, the understanding and support of parents, family and friends can go a long way in helping people with anxiety disorders to cope and overcome them.

Dogs And Separation Anxiety Quotes:

As a cure for worrying work is better than whiskey. By Thomas A. Edison Find out about Dogs And Separation Anxiety

Breakthrough: Why Understanding Separation Anxiety Disorder Will Ultimately Cure It

I remember one time during my school years, I saw a mother trying to leave her clinging, teary and tantrum-filled child at school. Goodbyes like that are common to the children's earliest years. Actually, it is called separation anxiety. But, it's not only common to children; it is as well common to parents, especially if they only have one child ready for school.

Separation anxiety usually develops around the first birthday of a child, getting upset when parents tries to leave them with other people. Though, separation anxiety is perfectly normal part of childhood development, it can be disturbing.

A baby develops separation anxiety some time between their 4th -7th month. During this time, your baby develops a sense of object permanence. Baby realizes that there's only one of you. That is why when they can't see you, they will cry for they meant that you've gone away. Between 8th months to 1 year, your child becomes even more uncertain about being separated from you. This is when separation typically develops, and your child may show tantrums and cry hard whenever you try to leave.

The timing of separation anxiety can vary widely from child to child. There are kids who experience it earlier and some may experience it later, and it also depends on the child on how the parents respond. In cases where the separation anxiety interferes with an older child's normal activities, it can be an indication of a serious anxiety disorder. In cases where separation condition came out of the blue in an older child, it can be a sign of another problem and it is possible that the child may be dealing with, like harassment or mistreatment.

Always remember that separation anxiety is typically different from the normal feelings an older child has when he/she doesn't want a parent to leave. In cases like that, a child may be distracted to overcome the distress until the parents arrive, and remembers that her parents left. In addition, your child doesn't understand the effects of his/her behavior has on you. If you come after your baby every time he/she cries, your child may use the same trick on you just to avoid separation.

Separation anxiety is not only common to kids and parents. Believe it or not, it is also what your dog feels every time you leave them. Everyone needs a little time and space these days due to the hectic schedules from work and family. Unless of course, you are man's best friend. Dogs with separation anxiety displays a behavior problems when they are left alone, typically lasting for 20-45 minutes after their owners leave them.

The most common of these behaviors are:

Digging, chewing, and scratching at doors or windows tiring to escape and reunite with their owners;
Howling, barking, and crying in an attempt to get their owner to come back;
Urination and defecation (even housetrained dogs) as a result of distress.

In cases where you find your couch, doors and other furniture all torn up, because of what your dogs did, just put yourself in your dog's shoes, and try to understand how it feels to suffer separation anxiety.

Whether you are dealing with dog separation anxiety, separation anxiety in a child or even in an adult, by understanding the anxiety you can ultimate control it and hopefully cure it.

How do I ease my dogs separation anxiety? Also how do I stop her from being so jealous?

She would never hurt anyone or any thing, but she continously barks when I hold my friends baby and then she tries to wedge herself in between me and anyone that comes near me. I can't even hug my own mom without her wedging herself and barking. If a another dog comes near me she tries to tackle them and intimidate them by showing teeth (she has never snapped at another dog) but she just shows her teeth. She is completely loving but almost too loving. Also when I leave to go back to college she will quit eating and not want anyone near her for 2 weeks after. She is an old english sheepdog... I know they are known for being companion dogs but I just want her to be more social when I leave or other people are around me. We have 2 other dogs so its not like she is never around other people or animals.

This is not an uncommon problem. Many people have problems with their animals when the go to work destroying the house out of shear loniness for their master. It has been suggested by pet psychologists to tape themselves and put it in the VCR and set a timer to play the tape about midday for the animal.

You might try calling home and have someone put the phone up to the dogs ear so you can talk to her. You might use a video recorder and tape yourself several times so someone in the house can play it in the VCR occassionally so the dog can see you on TV and hear you.

As for the jealousy, that is an insecurity. Try getting someone else in the house attempt to get close to her. It sounds like she might feel that she is afraid you will stop loving her or abandon her. If she has someone else in the house to love, she 'might' stop the jealousy.

Separation Anxiety In Child Quotes:

Worry often gives a small thing a big shadow. By Swedish Proverb Find out about Separation Anxiety In Child

How long is the stage of separation anxiety of families in toddlers?

my daughter went to this, but lasted only a few weeks, but with my nephew, I like it lasted forever. it is so bad that my SIL can simply walk by him as cleaning or something and it will start to scream! I know that every child goes through stages at their own pace, but how long can it last?

Everyone of my children were in the same way it has lasted a few days through. When I left I told them I was returning to sequence, then when I'm there to pick up, I would see Mom, I'm back could never forget my son / daughter. I know another lady who would bring the red lip with her and but just before he left and kissed the back of the hand and say it is special so you can keep some with you mom. He worked like a charm. She formed the idea of the other parents. Good luck I know that this stage is difficult, especially if it takes more than a few days.

Seperation Anxiety Disorder Quotes:

If we all did the things we are capable of doing we would literally astound ourselves. By Thomas Alva Edison Find out about Seperation Anxiety Disorder

Treating Compulsive Skin Picking

Dermotillomania, or Compulsive Skin Picking (CSP) can affect anyone at any time. It is a condition that can seriously affect the individual's personal and working life.

What may start as an apparently innocent behaviour - an attempt to deal with minor irregularities and skin imperfections - can rapidly transform itself into a compulsion that leaves the person feeling confused and powerless.

The individual who consistently picks at his or her skin can spend long periods engaged in this activity and this can have a truly negative impact on their work and social relationships.

In severe instances, this often poorly understood condition can result in severe skin damage leading to actual disfigurement.

Most often, the individual experiencing this compulsive behaviour repeatedly picks, rubs, scratches or digs their nails into the skin. Quite often this condition can be triggered by stress and unresolved emotional difficulties such as anxiety, grief or simple boredom.

These days Compulsive Skin Picking is classified as one of the Body Focused Repetitive Behaviours (BFRBs). Other conditions that belong to this particular group include compulsive hair pulling and chronic nail biting.

It is important that anyone engaging in compulsive skin picking consult a medical doctor so that any possible medical condition can be eliminated.

This is necessary in order to make sure that the skin picking activity is a seperate issue and not a symptom of some other more serious underlying disorder such as an autoimmune or developmental problem.

Many people find that they begin to pick at their skin during a stressful period in their lives.

The individual learns, through repetion, that by picking at the skin they can exercise some degree of control or at least distract themself from the underlying difficult feelings and emotions. And so the skin picking becomes a habit.

Still others may have begun picking their skin following some form of skin injury or disease. As the wound or injury to the skin begins the process of healing, a scab forms which can often feel quite itchy. This may cause the person to pick or scratch, and this in turn prevents the wound from completely healing. And this leads to even more itching and picking as more scabbing takes place.

The medical response to chronic skin picking, dermotillomania, is often to prescribe one of the Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) such as Prozac. Though this approach has had a degree of success, it works only on the symptoms. It does absolutely nothing about the underlying causes or drivers.

Other approaches include CBT or Habit Reversal training (HRT) which aims to identify possible triggers and to then teach the individual coping strategies. This approach has also had some success, but again, it focuses on managing the actual symptoms, rather than dealing with the real underlying drivers and cause.

In the opinion of this therapist, a more effective approach is to uncover the actual causes and drivers of the skin picking through the use of advanced and skillfully applied hypnotherapy techniques and strategies.

The dermotillomania is being driven by subconscius urges, so it is to the subconscious mind itself that we need to turn if we are to bring about a solution to this harming behaviour.

Once the underlying reasons and drivers for the dermotillomania have been uncovered, the subconscious mind can be helped to 're-programme' itself and the skin picking simply becomes extinct or replaced with a more helpful anxiety or stress release strategy.

If you suffer from Compulsive Skin Picking (CSP), or dermotillomania, and you genuinely do want to stop skin picking, then help is available.

With the effective application of advanced hypnotherapy you can put an end to CSP and regain control of your life.

Severe Separation Anxiety Quotes:

Just as much as we see in others we have in ourselves. By William Hazlitt Find out about Severe Separation Anxiety

Running a destructive dog has serious anxiety disorders> separation?

Whenever I leave the house, my Basenji tear the curtains, carpet tears, pitting the door, chewing my shoes, and even rips the nets. even when I put it in its cage, it will try to get to where the red nose and almost bloody. what should I do?

Basenji are a totally different class of dog. They do BRAT not call for anything. LOL! Firstly, it needs lots of exercise. She wears very well before leaving. These are dogs of energy extremely high, and without regular exercise, they will be devastating, even if they do not suffer from separation anxiety. They very smart and will literally find things they know will get your attention. One of my father Basenji actually climbed onto my chest and ate my glasses sun once, because I scolded. She waited until I was not there, then went into my room and goggles, without even passing another question on the dresser. (I know, it seems that not the right problem? The thing is ... I am very small and it is difficult for me to find sunglasses that I will not Mickey Mouse or some other character on the frame. These sunglasses have been very precious to me and knew that Isis.) How Do you train cash it? These dogs can take some time to properly train to accept the cash. They like soft, warm things. I have not yet met a Basenji that does not love a pile of laundry fresh from the dryer. She needs to see his crate as a den or a palace really lol. Put a soft cloth (pad) bed there for her, and give him lots of treats and toys. Do not close the door, but rather her get used to go to the checkout to get the deals. (You can Also the food in his cage ... being sure to remove the dish when she finished eating.) Once she gets to the point where it will go willingly in trafficking, start closing the door behind her in. When she turns to leave, open the door and let her out. Then gradually increase the time that the door is closed. It is the idea that these dogs are really smart. Just do not leave it one gets up on you ... you must stay one step ahead of her. LOL! Co if it figures out how you handle it. After she accepted the door closed with you sitting near the cash, leaving the room for short periods of time ... minute intervals. Re-enter the room and treated to be good. When she accepted this, increase the time you're out of the room, always treating her for good behavior when you come in. Finally, leave the house. Do not say anything ... Just walk in the door after she is in her cage. Stand outside the door and listens. If she cries, do not go back in. Wait a few minutes, then re-enter and rewarding desired behavior. Finally she will accept this and she will learn that when you leave, you will return. It will settle in his bed with his toys while you're gone. Again ... I want to emphasize ... Be sure to bring him before you leave for long periods of time. A bored and energetic Basenji is "bad" as a nuisance and energetic pit bull. These dogs must have proper exercise and training, or you'll end up with a destructive dog that makes you want to pull your hair. Like other have said, obedience classes would serve both of you well. They are wonderful dogs, but very high and strong spirited. Kudo to you for having the patience to love a kid. :-) I had a Basenji mix named "Bovu. Bovu means "spoiled rotten" Swahili. We called him "Bovu-Nater, and I'm sure you can imagine why. LOL! It was the best but really. We are trained to accept his body the same way I described above. Never had a problem with him get excited when we left the house, once he realized we would return. :-) Good luck to you! Added: There is one thing we did with Bovu I have not mentioned above ... we gave her cage a "name". It was his "room", and we called him that when we formations. He knew that his "room", then when we want it to go create his own, we would say "Bovu, go to your room." Once he has accepted his body, he knew what "Go to your room" meant, and he had obtained in his cage without a fuss.
