Premenstrual Syndrome 05 - Premenstrual Syndrome ( PMS )- What causes Anxiety in PMS
As we mentioned in previous article, Premenstrual syndrome effects over 70% to 90% of women before menopause in the US and less for women in Southeast Asia because of their difference in living style and social structure. The occurrence of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) have more than doubled over the past 50 years due to the acceptance of it as a medical condition that is caused by unhealthy diet with high in saturated food. Premenstrual syndrome is defined as faulty function of the ovaries related to the women's menstrual cycle, it effects a women's physical and emotional state, and sometimes interferes with daily activities as a result of hormone fluctuation. The syndrome occurs one to two weeks before menstruation and then declines when the period starts. In this article, we will discuss what causes anxiety in PMS.
1. Hormone imbalance For what ever reason, women with PMS are found to have high levels of estrogen and low levels of progesterone. It may be caused unbalance of omega fatty acid, deficiency of certain minerals and vitamins, digestive disorder in nutrients absorption, etc, resulting in increasing symptoms of anxiety of PMS.
2. Sluggish liver Besides helping to detoxify the body and fighting against invasion of foreign substances such as virus, bacteria and abnormal cell growth, liver play an important role in providing nutrients to the nervous system in fat and protein metabolism. Unfortunately, most women with PMS are found to have a sluggish liver during menstrual cycle resulting in nervous tension leading to anxiety.
3. Nutrients deficiency Deficiency of Omega 3 fatty acid or imbalance of fatty acid in the body during menstrual cycle as resulting of over consumption of saturated fat caused by interference of liver in fat and protein metabolism resulting in increasing tension of nervous system leading to anxiety.
4. Genetic passing through If your sister has it, you may also have it. For what ever reason, anxiety during menstrual cycle seems to run in the family. It may be caused by high levels of estrogen in the pool gene or reaction of certain glands in production of hormone during menstrual cycle.
5. Environment toxins Over exposure to toxic environment resulting in accumulation of xenoestrogen in the body during menstrual will lead to over production of bad estrogen and low levels of good estrogen to counter the reaction to the symptoms of PMS.

Social Anxiety Disorder- How To Find The Best Treatment
Social anxiety disorder is a problem that can limit person life a lot, there are many factors that can cause social anxiety disorder, they can be caused because of environment or because of genetic factors and many more. In this article I will tell you about main causes of social anxiety disorder and ways it can be treated.
Among the primary causes is being uncomfortable in social situations, it makes folks wish to avoid these scenarios and often stay away from everybody and mainly because of fear of rejection they don't try to make new relationships. These factors can support a great deal to development of social anxiety disorder.
Actually it is not always that people have learned on their own, in many cases it is actually genetic, if parents are sufferers there is really high possibility that their children will be as well. Parents can avoid that, if their kids are very young by putting them often into social situations and not being too protective. Usually it is the highest problem in teenage years, so it's very good for parents who think their children might become sufferers to start curing it early.
Most typical cause is that particular person has experienced a lot of embarrassing circumstances, this mostly occurs at teenage years while particular person goes to school, it really is simple to develop negative self image. It is often not just mainly because of embarrassing circumstances, but also mainly because of body image. If individual doesn't like their body it can lower their confidence a lot, which is one of the major causes.
In shorter words in most cases it's caused by low self confidence, and it can be actually important to cure it, because it can quickly lead to other issues like stress and depression and it can leave you out of so many opportunities.
Usually the best way to cure social anxiety disorder is to increase your self confidence, but you can't count on it, there are many people who seem to be very confident but really they are sufferers as well.
I'm a really shy person and I've always found it hard to make friends. I think I might have social anxiety. I'm 18 now and the other day I was reading about what causes shyness and it said it can be genetic or it be from the way you were brought up. I was thinking back to my childhood and I remember my mum being really overprotective. She never let me go anywhere. If friends asked me to go places she would always say no even when I was like 15. She also let me have lots of time off school. Do you think this is why I am shy?
no, my dad was really shy wen he was younger, and i can't keep my mouth shut. you're your own person. though it could be the way you were brought up. you can fix it by doing lots of after school/work activities (sports, music, exercise classes, etc.). whenever i start to feel shy, i do things that involve other people because then you're almost forced to interact (in a good way). hope that helps.

Don't chain your worries to your body. The burden soon becomes heavy and your health will give too much of itself to pick up the extra load. By Astrid Alauda Dyspeptic Enlightenment Find out about Social Anxiety Klonopin
I'm sure that there are thousands of people out there around this country and the world that are currently on Klonopin or Xanax. Personally, I don't mind seeing people take these type of medications if they are going through a tough period in their life such as a death in the family or loss of job. What I do have a problem with is people getting hooked on this medication - and it can easily happen. The symptoms of Benzodiazepines is sometimes tough to handle and you do need some help along the way.
I know all too well about what these two medications do to people since I am currently on Klonopin. It's a little embarrassing to write about, but I've come to a place where I am slowly tapering off of Klonopin - so I think it's high time to help other people that are on either of these medications to get off these things for good.
I'll first talk about how I started taking Xanax. I've always been an anxious individual all my life compounded with being diagnosed with Social Anxiety. My high school years were horrible in the fact that I was scared to talk in class or in any group of people. I would have panicattacks if a teacher called on me during class. Things didn't get better when I went to College - in fact, it got worse. It got so bad that I went to the University therapist - which really didn't do anything for me.
Fast forward to my mid twenties, I woke up one morning and told myself that I had enough of being anxious and having panic attacks - and that I wanted to go to the doctor and get him to give me a "magic pill" to relieve the things I was going through. And so I did.
A couple days later I walked out of the doctors office with a prescription of Xanax in my hand. The first month was like a godsend to me. However, I learned quickly that I had to back off from taking more since I was getting use to the medication. Then I hit a brick wall. Whenever I didn't take the medication, my skin felt like it was crawling. I also felt disoriented along with my speech slurring a bit. It was horrible.
I lived this way for a few years until I decided to go on a less potent medicine named Klonopin. For me, at least it was better when I laid off of it for a couple days, but it still was bad. I would go cold turkey for three or four straight days, and my head would be pounding and I was extremely sick. One thing that wouldn't go away would be the constant disorientation - that was my major withdrawal symptom.
I finally came to grips that I had to do something about these symptoms. How I started back on the road of recovery was by meditating. Every time I took less Klonopin (especially on my days off), I would meditate when the symptoms would come back. I would imagine myself going through the day without the symptoms - then imagine myself throwing the bottle of Klonopin away. When I finished my mediation (or self-hypnosis) - I would walk downstairs and always talk to my wife. She would mention that I acted better - and she was right, because I felt better after relaxing my body and mind.
Meditation has helped me over the years. Sure, the symptoms would come back within a few hours (after I finished my meditation session), but I would go back to my study, put on my head phones and listen to a hypnosis CD and just relax. That sure beat taking another dose of Klonopin.
After six months of utilizing meditation, I went from taking six mgs per day to three. Now, I'm not giving meditation the all the credit here, there was another thing I had to do. That was reducing my intake of Klonopin. I slowly withdrew by.25 mgs every two or three months - and that was tough to do. There were times when I would go down to a certain amount and I just couldn't take it, I would go back to my previous amount.
Today, I still struggle, but I'm glad to say that I'm on my way of kicking Klonopin out of my life. I'm down to 1.5 mgs per day and when I don't have to go into work, I take.75 mgs. Every now and then I may skip taking the medication altogether for a day, but if I enter the second day without taking Klonopin, I'll get my butt kicked. So please take Klonopin every day, even if you are trying to withdrawal from this horrible medication.
Lastly, I would like to say that one should never go cold turkey. The journals and cases I've read, that's a big no-no. Always withdrawal slowly from Klonopin. Again, for me, I would taper.25 mgs every two months. Also, whenever you feel the symptoms coming back to haunt you, try to find a place where you can get away - then relax your body and your mind - take a few deep breaths, and imagine your world without Klonopin. This will help you tremendously as it has helped me. However, what has worked with me may not work for you. We are all made differently. Before withdrawing from Xanax or Klonopin, please consult your doctor.

Anyone ever taken Xanax, Lexomil, Valium, Ativan, or Klonopin.
Anyone who has taken them compare there effects to being drunk or buzzed. I have social anxiety and drink when I have to go to a crowded bar or party. I know the effects of alcohol are less inhibitions and I guess euphoria. Is it similiar with these medications?
I had valium I.V. just before i went into surgery. I went from completely nervous, cold and shivering...to a happy place in about 2 seconds. Never had it since...but if there was any drug i could get prescribed...that would be the one i'd choose.
Worry dominates your life. You try to control your anxiety, but it often ends up controlling you. Restlessness and irritation prevent you from enjoying your day, and insomnia won't let you sleep at night...
Everyone is seeking some form of anxiety and stress relief. Hopefully you haven't resorted to self-medication with alcohol. Rather than applying a balm to the sore of stress, why not find a way to stop the stress from getting out of hand in the first place. I'll take preventative medicine over reactive medicine any day.
One effective approach to getting anxiety and stress relief is to address the thinking in your mind that is causing the stress. The whole field of cognitive psychology is devoted to this approach. So, one type of faulty thinking that can lead to stress, anxiety and depression is all-or-nothing thinking.
What is all-or-nothing thinking? It goes like this: Someone who suffers from this mistaken form of thought always looks at things in black and white, good or bad, right or wrong, etc. If you partake in this kind of analysis of your life then you are setting yourself up for a lot of grief. Now, correcting this thinking may not happen overnight. But if you become mindful of your all-or-nothing thinking then you can correct it little by little and get the anxiety and stress relief you are seeking.
Here is an example of this all-or-nothing thinking. Let's say that your stress is the result of you not being able to finish all the tasks on your to-do list. I am often guilty of this. I tend to make myself way too busy because there is so much that I want to do. I know I've pushed myself too far when I start to get that knot in my throat and my anxiety level increases. This happened just recently. In order to get the anxiety and stress relief I needed, I had to modify my thinking.
Instead of either succeeding or failing at my to-do list for any given day, I had to be ok with not completing everything on the list. But, that didn't work so well. I didn't like seeing things left undone. That was the all-or-nothing thinking again. So, then I just made the to-do list smaller and that worked almost immediately. In fact, that night when I decided that I couldn't do everything I wanted to do and had to settle for less, I could feel the knot in my throat shrivel up and disappear into calm. This is a good example of great anxiety and stress relief by challenging faulty thinking. This is just one example of anxiety and stress relief by challenging all-or-nothing thinking. Another example could involve you demanding that you get an A on a test. Getting a B isn't good enough. Again, you are setting yourself up for a lot of grief if you think this way. Bring some flexibility into your life and get the stress and anxiety relief you need.
To give a background, I've had the hardest time seeing a doctor in my area for anxiety. I get put on 3 month waiting lists then called to reschedule my appointment 3 months later. This issue is happening everywhere I call.
I was prescribed Celexa by my doctor. I took it for a month but it made me worse. I honestly think it made me more anxious and suicidal. I never thought about taking my life as much until I started taking that medicine.
I can't seem to find anyone to help me. I've called several doctors offices and many of them give me an appointment 3 months down the line. I don't feel like my situation can wait that long anymore.
My suicidal feelings have diminished however my anxiety is so bad that I have a hard time leaving the house now.
For those of you wondering I'm 25 years old.
yes and I can you why!
I am on Klonopin, have been for years, I started out at 2 mg a day, I was on that for 3 years and it made me feel so much better from anxiety... now 9 years on the stuff, it works, but with that I have adverse side effects... I'm currently tapering it and I'll never take it again!

Important Facts About Medicines For ADHD
Ever wonder how medicines for ADHD might affect your child? Read on and get the scoop on what's currently being prescribed as well as the side effects involved.
Studies show that children with ADHD lack sufficient neurotransmitters in the brain. This deficiency is responsible for the characteristic inattention and lack of focus in ADHD patients. These neuro chemicals include dopamine, serotonin, norephinephrine, opioids and gama amino butyric acid, or BAGA for short. The ADHD med serves to replace the deficient chemicals.
As to the medicines for ADHD, stimulants are usually administered first, and if found to be ineffective or not well tolerated, antidepressants are prescribed. Stimulants are further classified as short, intermediate and long acting medications.
Long acting stimulants are taken once a day, and generally last 8-12 hours. This is useful for children in school as they don't have to remember to take their pill during the day. There are several long acting stimulants commonly used today, as described below.
Vyvanse is the latest ADHD med to be approved. It is similar to Adderall in that its main ingredient, lisdexamfetamine dimesylate, is a derivative of one of the ingredients in Adderall. Vyvanse, which produces a calming effect, is taken once a day in the morning. It is currently available in 30mg, 50mg, and 70mg capsules.
Adderall XR, a sustained release form of Aderall, is approved for use in children over the age of 6 years. Available in 10mg, 15mg, 20mg, 25mg, and 30mg capsules, the capsule can be opened and sprinkled onto food or in a drink if the child has difficulty swallowing pills. Regular Adderall is usually prescribed for children from 3 to 5 years of age.
Concerta, a central nervous system stimulant, is approved for children over the age of 6 years. It is a sustained release form of Ritalin. Concerta is formulated to work for 12 hours, and is available in 18mg, 27mg, 36mg and 54mg tablets. Teens requiring a 72mg dose can take 2 36mg tablets.
Daytrana, also known as the Ritalin patch, is available in 10mg, 15mg, 20mg, and 30mg dosages. The patches are worn for approximately 9 hours at a time on the child's hip. The medication continues to work a few more hours after the patch is removed.
Focalin XR is a long acting form of Focalin, with the active ingredient dexmethylphenidate hydrocholoride, which is also found in Ritalin. It is available in 5mg, 10mg, 15mg, and 20mg capsules, which can be opened and sprinkled on food if necessary for ingestion.
Ritalin LA is a new, sustained release form of Ritalin. It is prescribed to increase attention, decrease impulsiveness, and decrease hyperactivity. This medication is a mild stimulant that affects the levels of neurotransmitters in the nervous system. Ritalin LA is available in 10, 20, 30, and 40mg capsules. Some brands allow the capsule to be opened and sprinkled onto food. Ask your pharmacist if the brand you're taking fits in this category.
The short and intermediate acting stimulants are older medications. These include Ritalin and Ritalin SR, Methylin, Metadate ER, Methylin ER, Focalin, Dexedrine, Dextrostat and Aderall.
Strattera is the main non stimulant medicine approved for use in treating children with ADHD. Although not as commonly prescribed as stimulants, Strattera does have a place for those who can't tolerate stimulants. Strattera is helpful for children with ADHD and anxiety.
Medicines for ADHD, as well as all prescription drugs, have side effects that must be considered when deciding on an ADHD med. Each medication will list its own specific side effects, but in general, side effects from stimulants include decreased appetite, headaches, stomachaches, trouble falling asleep, jitteriness, and social withdrawal. Some of the known side effects associated with Strattera include stomach upset, nausea, vomiting, constipation, dizziness, fatigue, dry mouth, loss of appetite, trouble sleeping, or mood changes.
Make no mistake about it, when you read the list of potential side effects associated with medicines for ADHD or any other condition, it's no wonder that homeopathic remedies have become extremely popular. In treating ADHD, natural remedies make up for the chemical shortages naturally, whereas drugs typically use man made ingredients not naturally found in the body. Homeopathic remedies manufactured in an FDA approved facility, under the guidance of a qualified professional, are a safe and highly effective alternative to drug therapy.

It's not who you are that holds you back it's who you think you're not. By Author Unknown Find out about Anxiety Centre
Understanding Childhood Anxiety
Anxiety symptoms and disorders are a significant health problem in all developed countries. According to recent data, around 25% of adults will experience an anxiety disorders at some time. The frequency in children is unknown, but felt to be significantly underreported and under-diagnosed.
Although quite common, Anxiety Disorders in children often are overlooked or misjudged, despite being very treatable conditions. Children and adolescents with anxiety disorders typically experience intense fear, worry, or uneasiness that can last for long periods of time and significantly affect their lives. If not treated early, anxiety disorders can lead to:
- repeated school absences or an inability to finish school;
- impaired relations with peers;
- low self-esteem;
- increased alcohol or other drug use;
- problems adjusting to work situations; and
- anxiety disorder in adulthood.
Many different anxiety disorders affect children and adolescents. several disorders and their signs are described below:
Generalised Anxiety Disorder: Children and adolescents with generalised anxiety disorder engage in extreme, unrealistic worry about everyday life activities. They worry unduly about their academic performance, sporting activities, or even about being on time. Typically, these young people are very self-conscious, feel tense, and have a strong need for reassurance. They may complain about stomach-aches or other discomforts that do not appear to have any physical cause.
Separation Anxiety Disorder: Children with separation anxiety disorder often have difficulty leaving their parents to attend school or camp, stay at a friend's house, or be alone. Often, they 'cling' to parents and have trouble falling asleep. Separation anxiety disorder may be accompanied by depression, sadness, withdrawal, or fear that a family member might die. About one in every 25 children experiences separation anxiety disorder. Separation anxiety is a normal part of emotional development in pre-school children.
Phobias: Children and adolescents with phobias have unrealistic and excessive fears of certain situations or objects. Many phobias have specific names, and the disorder usually centres on animals, storms, water, heights, or situations, such as being in an enclosed space. Children and adolescents with social phobias are terrified of being criticised or judged harshly by others. Young people with phobias will try to avoid the objects and situations they fear, so the disorder can greatly restrict their lives.
panic Disorder: Repeated 'panic attacks' in children and adolescents without an apparent cause are signs of a panic disorder. Panic attacks are periods of intense fear accompanied by a pounding heartbeat, sweating, dizziness, nausea, or a feeling of imminent death. The experience is so scary that young people live in dread of another attack. Children and adolescents with the disorder may go to great lengths to avoid situations that may bring on a panic attack. They also may not want to go to school or to be separated from their parents.
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder: Children and adolescents with obsessive-compulsive disorder, sometimes called OCD, become trapped in a pattern of repetitive thoughts and behaviours. Even though they may recognise that the thoughts or behaviours appear senseless and distressing, the pattern is very hard to stop. Compulsive behaviours may include repeated hand washing, counting, or arranging and rearranging objects. About two in every 100 adolescents experience obsessive-compulsive disorder.
Post-traumatic Stress Disorder: Children and adolescents can develop post-traumatic stress disorder after they experience a very stressful event. Such events may include experiencing physical or sexual abuse; being a victim of or witnessing violence; or living through a disaster, such as a bombing or hurricane.
Anxiety disorders are among the most common mental, emotional, and behavioural problems to occur during childhood and adolescence. About 13 of every 100 children and adolescents ages 9 to 17 experience some kind of anxiety disorder; girls are affected more than boys. About half of children and adolescents with anxiety disorders have a second anxiety disorder or other mental or behavioural disorder, such as depression. In addition, anxiety disorders may coexist with physical health conditions requiring treatment.
Researchers have found that the basic temperament of young people may play a role in some childhood and adolescent anxiety disorders. For example, some children tend to be very shy and restrained in unfamiliar situations, a possible sign that they are at greater risk for developing an anxiety disorder. Research in this area is very complex, because children's fears often change as they age.
Researchers also suggest watching for signs of anxiety disorders when children are between the ages of 6 and 8 years of age. During this time, children generally grow less afraid of the dark and imaginary creatures and become more anxious about school performance and social relationships. An excessive amount of anxiety in children this age may be a warning sign for the development of anxiety disorders later in life.
Children and adolescents with anxiety disorders can benefit from a variety of treatments and services. Following an accurate diagnosis, possible treatments include:
- Cognitive-behavioural treatment, in which young people learn to deal with fears by modifying the ways they think and behave;
- Relaxation techniques;
- Biofeedback (to control stress and muscle tension);
While cognitive-behavioural approaches are effective in treating some anxiety disorders, medications work well with others. Some people with anxiety disorders benefit from a combination of these treatments. More research is needed to determine what treatments work best for the various types of anxiety disorders.

1 Anxiety: Symptoms, Cause and Common Fears 2...
Fear, worry, and apprehension can be caused by many events. But when fear, worry, and apprehension are present on a person in an intense and irrational manner, possibly all at the same time, then he or she might be suffering from an anxiety attack. The 3 aforementioned conditions are accompanied by physical symptoms. They are as follows:
Perspiration or Sweating - It is normal for a person to sweat. This is the body's natural way to cool down after physical activity such as exercising. It's also the body's response to external heat. However, sweating is one physical symptom that is also apparent when a person is having an anxiety attack.
Palpitations or fast and/or hard heart beating or pounding - Constant heart beating is obviously a sign of life. But, this should stay at a normal rate. When a person gets excited or frightened, he or she can feel that his or her heart skips or stops beating. Palpitating, however, can be an effect of anxiety. This is an unpleasant sensation that can be felt from the chest all the way to the neck and throat.
Stomach pain or abdominal pain - Often, physical pain has a corresponding physical problem. However, emotional illness such as anxiety attack can be one reason of such pain. Emotions can greatly affect the system of the body and can even cause inability to the person. Physical pain such as stomach and abdominal pain can be some of symptoms of anxiety.
Shaking or Trembling - Shaking or trembling can be caused by anger, stress, rage, or anxiety. But it should be noted that experiencing this regularly can be a sign of physical imbalance and should be examined by a doctor.
Cold or Hot Flashes - A sudden and lasting sensation of body temperature change particularly in the upper body can be caused by emotional illnesses to include anxiety.
Lightheadedness, Faintness or Dizziness - Lightheadedness with no apparent physical cause can be a symptom of an anxiety attack. The inability to maintain balance while sitting or standing can also be a sign of anxiety. Some anti-anxiety drugs can provide help in treating these.
Nausea and Vomiting - Nausea and vomiting can be caused by external conditions or it can be the body's response to stimulants. These can be pain, changes in the body, taste, smell, irritation, poor blood circulation and anxiety.
Chest pain - It is described as a pressure, heaviness and discomfort on the chest. Meanwhile, a sudden and sharp pain in the chest can be a sign of heart attack. Still, other reasons can cause a person to feel chest pain. One of these of course is anxiety attack.
Difficulty in swallowing - A feeling of tightening from the neck to the upper part of the abdomen, tightening of the neck area or only at the chest (behind the breastbone) can be a sign of emotional problems including anxiety.
Periods of breathlessness, shortness of breath or difficulty in breathing - Any of these can send discomfort to the person. This often leads to dizziness as the muscles, brain, and other body organs cannot receive their required oxygen supply to function properly. Periods of breathlessness, shortness of breath or difficulty in breathing can be a sign of anxiety.
As was mentioned, any of these symptoms can be caused by other physical conditions but if a person has shown at least 4 of the mentioned symptoms, it is advisable to seek proper help immediately.

How to deal with anxiety and vomiting phobia?
I have been suffering from anxiety attacks occassinally at night. They are horrible. I get scared, shaky, nauseated, cold/sweaty, and my heart races. They come out of no where. I'll be sound asleep and wake up with these horrible feelings. Also since then, I've also developed a horrible fear of vomiting. It is consuming my life. That is all I think about. It is driving me crazy. I just want to feel normal. So if I get the slightest stomach ache or sick feeling it throws me into an anxiety attack which them makes me feel even more sick. It is a horrible cycle. I haven't always had this. It has just developed over the last year. Please... any suggestions would be very helpful!!!

How A Patient Can Effectively Communicate With A Dentist For Optimal Dental Care
For many patients, going to the dentist for routine dental work is both scary and intimidating. And most of this fear can be attributed to a lack of trust and communication between the patient and dentist. With that being said, learning how to communicate with your dentist is a crucial step for achieving the best dental care possible.
Fortunately, a dentist's expertise doesn't only include his clinical skills, but patient education and good communication as well. Good communication between a dentist and a patient will benefit the patient, the dentist and the dental team.
If dental appointments make you nervous, but you haven't expressed your fears to your dentist, he won't be able to ease the anxiety and provide the best dental care possible. A caring and qualified dentist will listen to your concerns and work with you to modify a treatment plan to make you as comfortable as possible during every visit. Also, don't forget to reveal important medical history, conditions or medications in order to avoid complications and receive safe, appropriate dental care.
Just as the dentist is responsible for communicating with the patient, the patient must also practice open, honest communication. Always tell your dentist about tooth pain or other oral health problems you are experiencing. Failing to communicate these issues won't make the dental problem go away; it will only get worse. Not to mention that there are many new dental techniques available today, such as laser dentistry, that helps make invasive dental treatments faster and more pain free than ever.
The Age of Online Communication
In this day and age, there are numerous ways a patient can communicate with a dentist. In fact, many dentists have established practice websites, making obtaining dental information and practice details easier than ever for patients. Visit your Kirkwood dentist's site and access an array of valuable dental information including office details, new patient forms, service descriptions and a patient education library. Not to mention that you can make an appointment via the practice's website so that you don't even have to call the office. Have dental concerns or a question about a procedure? Just use the website's contact form and a dental team member will contact you with answers.
Social networking and blogs are also becoming increasingly popular methods for sharing information and communicating online. Check out your Sunset Hills dentist's Facebook page for more information about the practice including articles, photos and a discussion forum.
There are numerous ways to communicate with your dentist and learn to trust his expertise. Express your fears to your dentist and allow him to help you feel comfortable; and take advantage of new information technology, including your dentist's website and rapidly growing social media channels. Once you learn to communicate effectively, you'll be able to better understand your dental treatment options, ease your dental anxiety and achieve a healthier, more beautiful smile.

When I really worry about something I don't just fool around. I even have to go to the bathroom when I worry about something. Only I don't go. I'm too worried to go. I don't want to interrupt my worrying to go. By J.D. Salinger Catcher in the Rye Find out about Anxiety And Phobia
Phobia And Anxiety Disorders- What Is The Link Between Them?
Anxiety is somewhat a generalized mood condition that is often triggered without an unidentifiable stimulus. Anxiety is often accompanied with the feeling of fear and worriness. But then, simple anxiety is just a normal reaction to stress. But whenever anxiety becomes successive and extreme, it then becomes an anxiety disorder. Anxiety disorder may come in different forms. One of which is the so called phobia. A phobia is also defined as a mental illness that more commonly occurs in women of all age groups than men. The fact is based upon the study of the American Institute of Mental Health.
Like phobias, anxiety disorders might be present or can originate at the early age of a person often after a triggering event. Individuals who suffer from anxiety disorder typically show symptoms like sweating, palpitations, headache, muscle spasms, and hypertension. In worst cases, individuals with such problem usually experience exhaustion and fatigue. These symptoms are also present in individuals who suffer from a certain kind of phobia. This is due to the fact that the phobia could be the single largest category of anxiety disorders. Phobias cause persons to anticipate extremely damaging and terrifying consequences from objects, persons or situations they fear.
There are some other types of anxiety disorder and it includes panic disorder from which a person experiences trembling, dizziness, and difficulty in breathing whenever he encounters brief attacks of terror and apprehension. Social anxiety disorder on the other hand is defined with the fear of being embarrassed from a scrutinizing public. Milder cases of this disorder are what we often call as stage frights. Another type of anxiety disorder is the post-traumatic stress disorder which is a result from a traumatic experience such as accidents. Lastly, separation anxiety is felt when a sufferer is being separated from a certain person or a place from which he or she feels to be most secured. This case is common and a normal part of development in babies or children.
Like anxiety disorders, phobias also come in various forms. These types contain social phobias, distinct phobias, and agoraphobia. Specific phobia may be the most typical and largest variety of phobia. It's a fear of the certain object such as dogs, spiders, snakes, water, elevators, balloons, and a lot a lot more. Like in anxiety disorders, phobias might be treated via Cognitive Behavioral therapy. In this treatment, the patient is taught and trained to realize the cycle of damaging thought patterns and ways to change them into positive ones. Other treatments merely include things like lifestyle changes and pharmaceutical therapy.
Anxiety disorder cases such as phobias are fast increasing in number. One visible reason is the more complicated lifestyles most of us have been practicing very lately. Persons who frequently experience stress are also more likely to acquire anxiety disorders. Probably the best way to prevent ourselves from acquiring such disorders is by practicing a healthy lifestyle and to practice positive thinking.
What is the difference between Social phobia/anxiety disorder and Agorophobia?
Both sound similar in a lot of ways.
Thanks for all the helpfull replies.
It looks like isuffer from both conditions then.
They're not the same thing. Agoraphobia is usually associated with panic disorder and is not a fear of people, but a fear of being outside the home or in certain types of spaces. It almost always comes about from the experience of having panic attacks in unfamiliar environments. Agoraphobics are afraid of these panic attacks and think they can prevent them by avoiding certain places. Gradually this can become a fear of leaving the house.
severe social phobics may become very hermit-like but this is usually for a different reason - they fear being seen or having to interact with people. (Agoraphobics usually are comforted by being around people). It's also unusual for social phobics to be unable to leave the house altogether. But even in that case, the severe social phobic will have no problem leaving the home if they feel they don't have to worry about interaction or being seen (e.g. at night, or to go for a drive, whatever).
Edit: That's not to say that you can't have both disorders, or have symptoms of both disorders.

Fear is the highest fence. By Dudley Nichols Find out about Social Phobia Social Anxiety
Understanding Social Phobia and How to Overcome It
Lucky are those who have a lot of friends and family surrounding them who accept and love them unconditionally. For this group of people, it may be difficult to imagine how a woman can be scared to stand in front of the line in a store for the simple fear that everyone behind is watching her. A young man, who fears rejection from the new people that he will potentially meet may not have the ability to go out and socialize. These two situations are symptoms of social phobia which is one of the most common fears that Americans face today.
Social phobia is also referred to as social anxiety where a person experiences fear when facing other people in a social situation or expresses unnecessary worry about what other people may think. Social phobia may come in the form of fear of public speaking, fear of joining a public or group gathering, extreme self-consciousness and worrying about what other people may think by expecting criticism and disapproval.
To learn more about social phobia, its effects and some of the ways to overcome social phobia, take a look at the following:
1. A person with social phobia will exhibit the following physical symptoms: stuttering or stammering, sweating, nervousness, heart palpitations, sweating, nausea, trembling and sometimes, even panicattacks. Sometimes, if a person exhibits extreme shyness in casual social situations, this may already be an early sign of social phobia.
If the quality of life is affected and a person does not have the ability to widen his or her social circle, these are the signs that a person has social phobia. Timidity, negative thinking, fear of humiliation, embarrassment and ridicule are additional characteristics that you need to look for in a person with social phobia.
2. Understand that there are several root causes for social phobia. A previous humiliating or embarrassing experience that was personally tragic for the person may lead to social phobia.
Genetic factors, a deep-seated shame or hatred of a family member or family background, psychological factors, low self-esteem and depression are some of the other causes which may lead to social phobia or social anxiety. By getting deep into the root of this psychological condition, you will be able to understand more the reason behind social phobia and take steps towards treating it.
3. Although there are neuro, medicinal and psychiatric treatments for social anxiety, prevention is still better than cure. If you are extremely shy and there is a tendency for you to develop social phobia, you could adapt a new way of thinking and do your best to overcome shyness and social phobia. Below are some tips:
-Get to the root of the problem for your shyness: low self-esteem. If you feel that your appearance is inadequate and you are extremely self-conscious when you go out, ask the help of a close friend to implement ways of enhancing your natural attributes. Even a new set of good clothes will give your self-confidence a boost so that you will feel more comfortable in social situations.
-If your social phobia stems from a bad experience in the past, or shame about your family background or a bad experience, get the help of a professional if you need to. Some people with bad experiences take comfort in anonymity which can lead to social phobia. You cannot move on to a brighter future if you are trapped in or haunted by the past.
-Always think positive. Developing a sense of pride about who you are and accepting the fact that every one of us is unique in his and her own way, then you will be able to adapt a more positive attitude and sort of 'brighten' up the way that you look at things. A positive overall perspective in life will attract more friends so that your social circle will widen and you will not have the tendency of melding into the background or even developing social phobia.
Social phobia is something that you need to get over if this fear does not give you a chance to develop healthy personal and professional relationships. No man is an island, and there is no better time to start than now if you want to cultivate a deeper relationship with other people, get rid of your social phobia and live a fuller and more meaningful life.

Anybody suffering from Social Anxiety or Social Phobia?
Are you on medication? Can you tell me what medication you're on and how effective it is? It's affected me badly, and I haven't sought help yet.
Stephen,
I can relate to how you feel. I used to suffer from anxiety/agoraphobia. But I have always tried to avoid medication. More on this in a moment.
I was thinking too much. I had anxiety attacks when I had to speak in public. Or when there would be more than a few people around me in the same room. It was something that started when I was a teenager and that lasted over years and subsequently affected my career until not so long ago. Looking back, I feel I should have taken action way earlier. But anyway, that's the past.
At some point, I was prescribed medicine but I wanted to avoid that because of the side effects. They can be bad. You may think about that. Really. Now, I am NOT saying you should not see a doctor. To the contrary. You should get an accurate diagnosis. I am just giving you my prespective and what worked for me.
Anyway, eventually, I discovered a program that cured me. It is a 100% natural method. You can find it here:
http://www.stop-your-anxiety-now.com
The key of that technique is that you should no longer fear the thought of anxiety. You know what I mean? You are thinking too much. You have to get out of that loop.
Tackle the issue ASAP. You can get rid of it - others have, I have.
Good luck!
