Depression Disorder Names Quotes:

panic at the thought of doing a thing is a challenge to do it. By Henry S. Haskins Find out about Depression Disorder Names

Stablon Generic Tianeptine is anti depressant that is used in depressive disorder and panic disorder

Stablon is an antidepressant medication, consisting of Tianeptine, used to treat people suffering from depressive disorders as mood or panic disorder, dysthmia [adjustment disorder], post-traumatic stress disorder [PTSD], or major depression.   Stablon is a pain-reliever as well, isn’t as addictive as mu-selective opioids, and doesn’t sedate.  It doubles up as a fast-acting bronchodilator – the ideal choice for alcoholic asthmatics undergoing depression, as it makes the patients feel well without making them feel intoxicated or leaving a hangover that accompanies alcohol.

Stablon for stability:  Stablon containing Tianeptine, is beneficial in treating the entire range of depressive illnesses afflicting people.  Serotonin, a neurotransmitter, is believed to control moods, sleeping pattern and body temperature, and works by transporting signals from one nerve cell to another, but when it gets re-attached to the parent nerve, it upsets the chemical balance in the brain.  Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors [SSRIs] inhibit the work of serotonin, by not letting it get re-attached to its parent nerve, thereby correcting the chemical imbalance in the brain.  Tianeptine is a selective serotonin reuptake accelerator yet, surprisingly, it does not have an adverse impact on the brain; in ways not understood by scientists, it works towards maintaining the brain’s chemical balance!  It is used to treat severe or chronic depression, dysthmia [adjustment disorder], mood or panic disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder [PTSD].

For those considering treatment with Stablon, it is essential to give your complete medical history to your psychiatrist/treating doctor, informing the physician of all the medicines being taken by you [including OTC, prescription, nutritional supplements, herbal products], and any known allergies, so that your doctor can work out the correct dose regimen for you.   The physician should know if you are an alcoholic, suffer from a kidney ailment or have asthma.

Should you have to undergo a surgery, you must inform the surgeon/doctor that you are taking this medicine, as soon as surgery is recommended.  Treatment with Stablon has to be suspended normally at least 24-48 hours before a surgical procedure takes place; emergency operations can take place under vigilant operative supervision.  If the medicine is suspended because of a surgery, for re-starting the dose, you must consult your physician.

Stablon [Generic Tianeptine] is an oral medication, taken usually 3 times in a day.  The medicine is quickly absorbed, and as quickly eliminated by the body, so to derive full benefit from the medication, you have to stick to the dose regimen.  A missed dose can be taken if you remember an hour or two later, but not otherwise.  Doses must never be doubled, so take Stablon exactly as advised by your psychiatrist/physician.

All medicines have some side effects; if you take Stablon, you might experience mild dizziness, headache, abdominal pain, constipation, nausea, or vivid and complicated dreams.  If these symptoms persist, or become worse, or any other unusual symptoms occur including chest pain, difficulty in breathing, insomnia, decreased sense of libido, asthenia [loss of strength], trembling, fainting, myalgia [muscular pain], or anorexia [prolonged loss of appetite], then you have to stop taking the medicine and immediately contact your treating doctor, or the emergency room.  Stablon is known to have the least number of side-effects amongst antidepressants.

This medicine cannot be taken alongside MAO inhibitors, neither does it work well if combined with other anti-depressants, Saliclyic acid [especially at high plasma concentrations], or SSRIs like Prozac.  It is well-tolerated by everyone – especially the geriatric population – and very effective for those who suffer from memory problems.

Stablon should be properly capped, and stored at room temperature away from heat and dampness, out of reach of children and pets.  Any medicine that has passed the expiry date or is no longer being used should be properly discarded.  Stablon is not recommended for children below 15.  Pregnant or lactating women, or those considering pregnancy, must consult their gynaecologist/psychiatrist before starting treatment with Stablon.  Don’t stop taking the medicine on your own and don’t share it with anyone else.  Though this is a non-sedating medicine, you may check with your physician whether you should drive or operate machinery while on Tianeptine.

Tianeptine has an extremely calming effect by reducing irritability and impulsiveness; though it functions similarly to mu-opioids, it does not lend to aggressive behavior in individuals.  While curing psychological disorders, SSRIs are known to dampen libido, but Stablon [Tianeptine] is different – it is known to have saved families and friendships from disintegrating, and prevented many-a-marriage from going-on-the-rocks.

Panic Attack Questions Quotes:

The greatest mistake you can make in life is to be continually fearing you will make one. By Elbert Hubbard The Note Book1927 Find out about Panic Attack Questions

How to Stop Panic Attacks

If you have had the misfortune to suffer from a panic attack you know what a truly terrifying experience it is.

Suddenly and without warning you start to feel dizzy or light-headed, you can't seem to catch your breath, your body starts trembling or shaking and most frightening of all your heart starts to race and you can literally feel it pounding in your chest as if it is about to explode. Your mind screams: Help! I must be having a heart attack!

The first time I suffered a panic attack, I felt sure I was either having a heart attack or about to have one, and took myself off to the local hospital. Oddly, even as I was on my way to the emergency room I felt the symptoms decrease, until by the time the doctors saw me I was feeling much better. Later I was told that this is one of the ways you can tell whether it's a panic attack or heart attack. Panic attacks symptons generally decrease in a short time, whereas heart attack symptoms generally increase or stay at the same level.

After that first panic attack, I learned that my feelings and thoughts produced the physical symptoms, which in turn fed the feelings and thoughts of panic and terror. Which is why, as I was on my way to the emergency room, the focus of my thoughts naturally moved from how terryfing the symptoms were, to thinking about how much better I would feel at the hospital were I could receive help. I literally stopped myself from being panicked by the panic itself.

Panic attacks usually lasts less than ten minutes, although some of the symtoms may last longer. As soon as you feel yourself in a spiral from anxiety to sheer panic, try and focus on your breathing, and think about how you are feeling. Remind yourself that the actual fear of a panic attack feeds on itself like a raging fire, and that this fire will quickly burn itself out. Fortunately, despite their frightening nature, be reassured that panic attacks themselves do not lead to heart attacks, loss of control, mental illness or death.

A panic attack is a mental thought process that produces the physical symptoms, whereas a heart attack produces physical symptoms that leads to the mental thought process of panic.

Quite simply, you panic first, and the panic attack itself produces the symptoms that make you think you're having a heart attack. Conversely, you have the physical symtoms of a heart attack, which then produces the worry that makes you get to the hospital.

So in answer to the question, is it a panic attack or is it a heart attack, simply try and ask yourself what came first: the mental panic or the physical pain?

If you have suffered a panic attack, please either get yourself to a hospital or see your doctor to rule out any physical problems. Panic attacks and generalized anxiety are very common and are treatable a variety of ways, but you should be diagnosed by a professional before embarking on any treatment.

I need to go somewhere, but the thought of going there is giving me a panic attack?

I really need to go register for classes. Its a college an hour away but the thought of driving there and registering is giving me a panic attack already, cant imagine actually being there. I have respirdone and invega (and seroquel but thats outa the question) that i can take to calm me down, but it might affect my driving abilities. Idk what i should do. :( d/x psychotic depression.

What you are going through I go through everyday of my life.

Things to keep in mind, you've done it before, you can do it again.
Everything is hard.
Deep relaxing breaths before you leave.
Don't give yourself any time to think about leaving the house. Get up get dressed and get the *hell"* out of the house as soon as you can. The more you think the worse it gets.
Give yourself permission to pull over and have a rest if you need to.
Go for a fast walk for about 5 minutes to burn off the adrenaline before you get in the car.
Have some milk it does help you calm down.
Be brave, no matter how scary it is, you can do it.
Put a rubber band on your wrist, when you feel the panic snap the rubber band real hard. The brain can't deal with two things at once, the pain of the rubber band will override the anxiety and panic.

I hope even one of these helps just a little bit, I have to go out today also........I am not going to let the panic crap stop me this time.

Remember a panic attack can only last for a certain period of time.

Panic Attack Group Quotes:

Obstacles are like wild animals. They are cowards but they will bluff you if they can. If they see you are afraid of them... they are liable to spring upon you; but if you look them squarely in the eye they will slink out of sight. By Orison Swett Marden Find out about Panic Attack Group

How To Control Anxiety And Panic Attacks

A panic attack is a sudden occurrence of intense fear that develops for no reason and is associated with severe physical symptoms such as chest pains, rapid heart rate, shortness of breath, dizziness, sweating, and a sense of impending death.

Panic attacks can strike at almost any time without warning-when you are driving down the highway, at a store, asleep, or in the middle of an important meeting.  Panic attack can greatly interfere with your life-and may endanger you or others.  Many people with painc attack disorder develop intense anxiety between episodes, worrying when and where the next one will occur.  Also some people are afraid to leave their home because that is the only place that feel safe.

Panic attacks typically begin suddenly, without warning.  The symptoms reach their high point usually within 10 minutes and last about half an hour.  But they may last hours or sometimes up to a day.  You may feel tired or worn out after an attack.

It's not known what cause panic attacks or panic disorders.  Things that may play a role includes, Heredity and Changes in our brain function.  Some research suggest that your body's natural fight-or-flight response to danger is involved in panic attacks.  For example, if a tiger comes charging at you, your body react instinctively.  Your heart rate and your breathing would increase as your body get ready to defend itself from the dangerous situation.  But it's not known why an attack happen when there is no danger.

While panic attacks and panic disorder benefit from professional treatment, such as medications and a type of psychotherapy, you can also help manage your symptoms on your own.  Some of the treatments are:  Stay on your MEDICATION.  Facing your fears might be difficult, but your medication can help you feel like you're in control and not a hostage in your own home.

Join a support group.  By joining a support group, you will connect with other people who have anxiety or panic disorders.

Avoid caffeine, alcohol, and drugs, all can trigger a panic attack.  Get exercise, a walk may just change your mood.  Get adequate sleep so you won't feel tired and worn out during the day.

Panic attacks can affect your life and according to some research there is no sure way to prevent them, but getting treatment for the attacks as soon as possible may help stop them from getting worse or becoming more frequent.

Have you ever had a panic attack?

What happens when you have one?

I had a major panic attack about an hour ago in front of 5 people.. (support group) and it was the first time I've ever cried there. Gah, I'm so embarrassed and upset :(
Yeah.. they totally understand. I mean it IS a support group after all. I couldn't breathe right, I couldn't talk, and just kept closing my eyes and trying to pretend i was alone. I'm sure I looked like a raccoon after, because of the makeup.
yeah.. its freakin scary. I've only had about 4 panic attacks in my life. Luckily my therapist runs the group and was there to see it.. she helped me a LOT with it.

Yes, ever since I was 4 yrs. old. I also have a.d.d and o.c.d. I had them so bad (& sometimes now, when out of meds.) I used to feel as though I could not catch my breath. I also experienced "derealization & depersonalization).- completely like nothing was real, losing my mind, like in a dream, or floating.....soooo scary! I even felt like I was not real., physically & mentally. Afraid I would do or say anything.Afraid ppl could see the anxiety right through me.It is an anxiety disorder and can be 100% treated. Right now I am on zoloft and buspar. I was /am on xanax now. However, I have a corrupt dr. that has kept me on xanax for 6 yrs. and I am trying to get off of it. 'cause when u don't have it, your panic attacks are so much more intense and constantly recurring (fr. withdrawal). also, other doctors are shocked by that dr. prescribing it to me so long. (another story) WHATEVER, NEVER TAKE XANAX, never be embarassed about something out of your control! (esp. @ a support group)! You are fine. Keep with the groups. Talk to a professional mental health worker about perhaps, seeing a psychiatrist.Only, take meds if benefits outweigh the risks. Good luck to you. one more thing, get atleast 2 or more professional opinions. Don't trust every doctor. Many, just want to MEDICATE!!

Panic Attack Song Quotes:

Worry is a complete cycle of inefficient thought revolving about a pivot of fear. By Author Unknown Find out about Panic Attack Song

Tips on Preventing Panic Attacks

Panic attacks can be very severe and frequent. They are caused by a number of psychological conditions such as obsessive compulsive disorder or post traumatic stress, amongst others. Preventing panic attacks can be achieved through a number of methods such as those mentioned in the following tips.

Many people are so badly affect by panic attacks that they let it take over their lives. They do not like going out and they don't take part in activities. They fear that they will make a fool of themselves. The panic attack is normally temporary, but it does feel very long when it is happening. Many people describe the incident as a heart attack. In fact, a lot of people are rushed into the hospital thinking that they are having a heart attack when it is not.

Try to avoid caffeine, which is present in tea, coffee, chocolate, and colas. Research at the University of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil has shown that if you suffer from panic attacks, caffeine makes both your chances of having an attack and the severity of the attack much more serious. If you can reduce caffeine, or avoid it altogether, you will have more success in preventing panic attacks

Breath control.

One of the symptoms of panic attacks is hyperventilation, which makes you feel light headed and dizzy. Breathing deeply and slowly will help you to control this, and can help you to stop it from starting! So practice taking slow, deep breaths to control or even prevent panic attacks. There are many other health benefits to doing this, too, such as improved circulation and better quality sleep.

Think positively!

Many people say that thinking happy or positive thoughts - or nothing at all - when they feel a panic attack starting, they can stop it or at least reduce it. Think of a happy occasion, a scene from your favourite film, or your favourite song to make yourself feel more positive. You have to train yourself to turn these thoughts on at will, which can be difficult in the beginning. Until this becomes easy for you, try counting down from 100 to 1. If you can combine this with your slow breathing, so much the better!

Exercise.

Did you know that a rush of adrenaline often accompanies a panic attack? You can avoid these rushes by exercising. Good news if you hate gyms - walking for about half an hour every day, ideally in a park, woodland or other natural environment, is enough. This helps you to release the adrenalin that your body builds up and stores, so there is never a large amount in your body that can make a panic attack worse. You will find, also, that as you are walking (or cycling, or whatever you choose), you will be breathing more deeply, and probably thinking positive thoughts!

All of these things will help. Sometimes, though, they are not enough. You may need some professional help for a while, and these experts may use techniques such as hypnosis or cognitive behavioural therapy which will help to identify the problem and then develop the techniques that will help you most to control your panic attacks or prevent them completely.

Anxiety Medicine Names Quotes:

Don't chain your worries to your body. The burden soon becomes heavy and your health will give too much of itself to pick up the extra load. By Astrid Alauda Dyspeptic Enlightenment Find out about Anxiety Medicine Names

Anxiety Medicine can take the Edge Off

With an estimated 40 million Americans living with the impacts of anxiety disorders, the need for property treatment is evident. This mental illness can create symptoms that make getting through everyday life difficult at best. Fortunately, there are a host of anxiety medicine options that patients are often given to coincide with other forms of treatment.

When anxiety medication is used in conjunction with therapy, self-help techniques and support, many forms of anxiety are treatable and even curable. Even conditions as serious as posttraumatic stress disorder can be brought under wraps with the use of anxiety medication.

Types Of Anxiety Medication

There are two types of anxiety medication that most doctors consider prescribing to patients. They both can have a very positive impact in lessening and/or controlling the symptoms of anxiety.

- Antidepressants. Medications such as Zoloft and Paxil are given for more long-term treatment of anxiety symptoms. These medications can take some time to work, so patients are advised to use them as directed and follow instructions carefully. When used in conjunction with behavioral and cognitive therapy, this type of anxiety medicine can be very beneficial for patients.

- Anti-anxiety. This type of anxiety medication involves rapid treatment of acute symptoms. This class of anxiety medicine is considered potentially addictive and has depressant effects. Patients are advised not to take this form of medication for a long period of time. Other options for treatment are generally more effective for overall, lasting relief from anxiety symptoms.

What Medicine Does

Anxiety medicine is not necessarily designed to cure or overcome anxiety symptoms. What it does do is bring symptoms in line so patients can work on other forms of therapy. When anxiety disorders are present, patients often benefit from:

Psychological therapy

- Behavioral and cognitive therapy can give people the tools they need to overcome anxiety disorder. When medications bring symptoms in line, patients are free to work on other, most lasting, techniques for conquering their anxiety disorder. In many cases, positive thinking, desensitization and other techniques come into play to assist patients in "living through" the experiences that trigger their anxiety.

- Self-help. Meditative therapy, self-hypnosis, relaxation techniques and more can all help patients further overcome their illnesses. While it is true not all anxiety disorders are curable, most are controllable if the right therapy is applied.

Anxiety medicine is not a cure all, but it is an important part of an overall treatment plan. When controlling symptoms is a must to put a person back on the right track, these medicines do the job.

my doctor said i have anxiety attacks, he has given me different medicines but they don't help. any self cure

i have taken alot of medecines xanax and others i dont remember the names. i dont feel any different.

if Xanax or any other medication in the same class as Xanax doesn't work for you then perhaps your dosage isn't high enough. That's about the only reason why I can imagine that Xanax wouldn't work. It's really a wonderful drug for anxiety. I guess it's always possible that you are having some extreme reaction to it but that is so highly unlikely. They say that Valerian root helps people to relax but it's not something that you should ever mix with other medications and it's not FDA approved. My personal opinion is that if Xanax isn't doing it for you then you're highly unlikely to find a natural cure as they are often weaker than prescription drugs. If you could email me and tell me what strength of xanax you are taking, I can tell you if it's just too weak for you. If you are taking the little tiny white ones that are round or oval then that might be the case, they are the weakest. If you are taking the little peach ones then you could try to take 1 1/2 of them and see if that helps. You can do the same with the blue ones. 2 of the peach ones = 1 blue one. 2 blue ones = a whole bar (the long white ones). I think the average person has the best benefit from the blue which would be .5mg and the same as 2 peach ones. I know this is confusing but I hope it helps you. Good luck.

CBT Treatment - Effective Way To Treat Bipolar Disorder

Also known as manic depression, bipolar disorder is a mental ailment that occurs due to several factors like biological, neurological, environmental and emotional. It is featured by very frequent mood swings or cycling among extreme emotions like mania, depression, and normal behavior of the patient.

While there are several treatment options available for bipolar disorder, the most commonly used option is a combination of therapy & medication.

However, not all patients can be put under the same drill. The cases that involve a history of drug abuses, cannot be put to medication, else it could land up in a great risk. Also, it is hard to find that mood swings occurred due to bipolar disorder or drugs and say if the extent o bipolar disorder was not too much in the body, the medications would end up harming the patient quite severely. Also as a basic fact the patients move to medication only when no other resort is found.

In such special cases where medications are not the right choice, CBT comes in to being. The Cognitive Behavioral Therapy popularly known as or CBT is a sort of a therapy that is used to assist the patients in recognizing the exact triggers & causes of their depressive & manic states. Then the patients are made to learn the techniques so as to avoid the triggers & henceforth and cope up with the symptoms during the episodes. 70% of bipolar I disorder patients are made to undergo the CBT experience, especially those when one or a few episodes have taken place with in 4 years of initiating the CBT treatment.

CBT treatment to cope with bipolar disorder is used to accomplish two major goals. These are:

i. To recognize the manic episodes prior to their becoming uncontrollable & making a conscious change in how one reacts to these episodes.

ii. To learn the techniques, thoughts, reactions & behaviors that would help them offset the depression.

With the various activities & techniques prescribed by the expert therapists, these goals are achieved quite effectively.
Under CBT, the effectiveness of the treatment of the bipolar disorder mainly rests in the hands of the patient, as he/she is allotted homework like – performing some exercises, reading, etc. These are focused on helping the patient understand his/her condition and to help them learn the methods to cope with the situation.

The steps to conduct CBT are as follows:

1. Making a Contract with the Patient

Initializing CBT, you need to make a treatment contract with your patient. In this treatment you draw a definite plan of treatment for the patient and he/she agrees to follow the same. This also includes the patient's promise to do all his homework complete taking all assignments seriously. The patient in this contract also ensures that he/she would take any & all the prescribed medication just as directed. This is a crucial step towards CBT as this process largely depends on the patient's desire to cope with the bipolar disorder and his/her sense of responsibility towards the same.

2. Recording the Mood Swings

In the second step, CBT involves monitoring and grading the moods of the patient. For this the doctor gives the patients several worksheets that the patient fills in regularly. In these sheets the patient records his/her moods for the day. They also file the other important details like for how many hours did they sleep, the level of anxiety, & the level of irritability they felt. Especially the patients of Bipolar II Disorder must record all these details daily as in that case the mood cycles very frequently.

3. Patient does the Homework

Once the therapist is able to understand the mood cycles of the patient of bipolar disorder, the next step in CBT is for the patient. Here the therapist gives some reading material to the patient for him/her to understand exactly how our thoughts effect our emotions. This is done by the patient filling in the worksheets and once he/she understands the drill, they would be able to practice through altering their thoughts in far more rational way. Their emotions then become very rational, thereby decreasing the number & severity of the depressive & manic episodes.

4. Recognizing the Triggers

Further, you must be able to know the triggers in the case you are curing. Triggers are the basically any emotional or physical clicks that arouse a depressive or a manic episode like emotions, thoughts, times of the year, situations, environments, events, etc. Once the patient starts understanding and recognizing their triggers, he/she would then be able to learn to avoid them entirely, henceforth decreasing the severity & number of the depressive & manic episodes.

All in all, CBT is quite an effective method of treatment for the bipolar disorder patients. In case you think that you need this therapy, contact your doctor or therapist before it gets too late!

Our doubts are traitors and make us lose the good we oft might win by fearing to attempt. By William Shakespeare Measure for Measure1604 Find out about Anxiety Tears

panic attacks and Anxiety: Derealization and Depersonalization - You're Not Going Crazy!

Two of the most horrifying little goodies that so often accompany panic attacks and severe anxiety are derealization and depersonalization. Both can be absolutely crippling and take you right to the turnstiles of your perception of insanity. This article will discuss what these spooky phenomena are and what may cause them.

Coming from personal experience, derealization is a deep and disturbing sensation of unreality and detachment from one’s immediate world, rather an altered state of consciousness. It’s been described as feeling as though one is looking at the world through thick glass. I mean, you can see clearly, are fully oriented, and can function; however it’s like you’re operating in a very exclusive dimension. It is an absolutely terrifying experience and generally leads to the belief that insanity is at hand - especially if one hasn’t the knowledge as to what’s really going on. As derealization presents, one becomes extremely concerned about what to do and how to find help. See, it’s all about the fear of being, and appearing, crazy - or at the very least, extremely strange.

Now, just as derealization is an environmental perceptual issue, depersonalization is an equally disturbing self-perception phenomenon. During my junior year in college I walked into the house I shared with some buddies and caught a glimpse of a photograph hanging on the wall of the six of us. Though it was only a glimpse, something just didn’t seem right - that quickly. So I stopped, walked back to the photo and saw this person right in the middle of the picture. I knew who he was, yet I didn’t. But it was me! I can’t tell you how frightening that sensation was. Depersonalizaton holds the potential to snatch away your last morsels of identity and security, having any sort of concept of self relegated to the dumpster.

So, what actually causes these sensations? Recent research has suggested that extraordinary and frightening sensations, such as near-death and out-of-body experiences - which I believe are in the same ballpark as derealization and depersonalization - may occur because of stress-induced malfunctioning brain chemistry. For example, a structure in the temporal lobe (lower side) of the brain known as the angular gyrus, specifically the right angular gyrus, is believed to process sensory input in an effort to aid in the perception of our physical selves. Featured in one particular study was a seizure disorder patient participating in a course of electrical stimulation treatment. During a procedure the electrodes were applied to the right side of the patient’s head (right angular gyrus?), and guess what? When the juice was turned on the patient reported an out-of-body experience. Now, this research doesn’t specifically address the cause of derealization and depersonalization; however it begins to point some fingers. At least I think so.

The strange sensation of floating outside of the body during times of perceptual disorientation may be generated by any number of things, including panic, intense anxiety, major life stress, emotional and physical trauma, and brain disease or injury. As it applies to mental and emotional distress, perhaps as life circumstances begin to overwhelm us we become victims of transitioning consciousness as our minds react by generating custom-tailored out-of-body experiences known as derealization and depersonalization. V.S. Ramachandran, M.D., Ph.D., director of the Center for the Brain and Cognition at the University of California, San Diego, underscores the power of perceptual alteration by proposing there’s a shift in the very boundaries of self-perception when incoming sensual input doesn’t comply with what one perceives and requires as the norm. By the way, do whatever you can to read any of Ramachandran’s writings because it’s absolutely amazing stuff. This guy is the real deal.

As a past sufferer of this hocus-pocus, I view derealization and depersonalization, intense perceptual alterations, as the mind’s self-protective reaction to the ultimate perceived state of overload. It just seems to me that when the mind believes it’s mega-overwhelmed it flips the switch on a perceptual filter, believing even the slightest additional bit of stimuli may lead to various degrees of psychic meltdown. Yes - it’s the mind in a powerful state of defense. Within this theoretical framework, the mind is trying to give itself a fighting chance to sort and process that with which it’s already wrestling, so it chooses to inhibit the sensory messages streaming in from one’s immediate internal and external experience.

Now, unfortunately, the mind’s fear circuitry is chugging along very independently and just as efficiently as its perceptual filter. So off go the alarms because the sensations experienced as a result of the mind’s work to defend itself, which may include derealization and depersonalization, are causing the alarm circuitry to freak. As a result, one flips into all-out panic mode, desperately trying to reestablish a sense of perceptual orientation and comfort. And that only makes things worse because it totally interrupts the mind’s immediate mission of managing thousands of cars at rush-hour. And so one is left with this ever-building traffic jam caused by two vehicles: an overloaded mind on the verge of meltdown and a very agitated and loudly rebellious fear circuitry. Needless to say, no one’s going anywhere.

I might also suggest that derealization and depersonalization may also present as a result of the mind being so consumed by its present overload, it simply can’t deliver perceptual accuracy in response to what the senses are bringing to the table. Don’t ever forget – this is all about how we receive self and the world. And there’s only so much of the mind to go around. Yes - it does have its limits.

Dr. V.S. Ramachandran, from his book, A Brief Tour of Human Consciousness: From Imposter Poodles to Purple Numbers (Pi Press, 2004), sets the table for his thoughts on derealization and depersonalization by mentioning two fascinating neurological disorders. The first, Capgras Delusion, is characterized by the patient being convinced a close family member or friend is an imposter. The patient has no problem grasping familiarity of appearance and behavior; however the relational significance just isn’t there, and the patient is fully aware of the disconnect. Ramachandran then mentions Cotard’s Syndrome, a neurological disorder characterized by the patient believing she has lost everything, even parts of her body, and believes she may, indeed, be dead and is walking about as a corpse.

Ramachandran suggests derealization and depersonalization may well be caused by the same altered brain circuitry that brings on Capgras and Cotard’s, even to the point of referring to derealization and depersonalization as rather a “mini-Cotard’s.” In the face of a life-threatening emergency a piece of anatomy in the frontal lobe of the brain, the anterior cingulate (also involved in the processing of physical pain), becomes active. Its ensuing action pulls in the reins on the brain’s fear circuitry. As a result, disabling phenomena such as fear and anxiety fall by the wayside. But it doesn’t stop there, as the anterior cingulate then ramps-up alertness just in case we need to defend ourselves. Well, the bottom-line is we’re left in this emotionally void and hypervigilant state, and Dr. Ramachandran proposes we have but two alternatives to account for what’s happened: “The world just isn’t real,” presenting in the form of derealization, and “I’m not real,” presenting in the form of depersonalization. Go back several paragraphs to my description of my personal experience with depersonalization. One of my statements was, “I knew who he was, yet I didn’t.” Kaboom - what a fit.

I find all of this really very fascinating, especially when you consider that something that feels so horribly frightening, and that holds the potential to cause such major dysfunction, may actually be the mind’s naturally intended way of protecting itself. Indeed, the mind may be saying, “I’ve got a bit more than I can handle here - could someone please help me out?” To me, assigning a personality, if you will, to the mind gives its generated distressing phenomena a bit of softness and gentleness; making them seem so much less abysmal. I mean, it’s like the mind is this living, feeling being to which we can show compassion as it’s hurt, confused, worn-out, and desperately in need of rest and care. I really believe in this relationship with mind, and it’s my opinion the only thing that keeps us from realizing its fullest two-way potential is overcoming our misinterpretations and overreactions to the mind’s naturally occurring protective mechanisms. Yes - as soon as we sense the beginnings of sensations such as derealization or depersonalization, and the alarms sound, we think our way to exaggerated and inappropriate reactions. And it’s this dynamic that causes all the hubbub, not the perceptual alterations themselves.

Well, hey - that's it for this writing. Hopefully you know a bit more than you knew coming in. And if derealization and/or depersonalization are tearing your life apart, here's hoping for some insight and relief. Don't ever forget - you are not going crazy! Keep an eye out for my article, Panic Attacks and Anxiety: Adios! to Derealization and Depersonalization. It's a great bit of follow-up.

what can you treat an old dog with who suffers from anxiety when it storms or hears fireworks?

The dog runs in circles, howls/barks, tears holes in the wall.

I had a dog who was like yours. The vet told me to give him Benadryl. Of course, that only works if you are home. Dogs can be desensitized but not by the average owner. Look for the Dog Whisperer episode about Gavin the ATF K-9. Cesar had to do a lot of work with this dog. This dog was an ATF working dog who even worked in IRAQ, then came home and was afraid of storms, fireworks - anything loud would just shut him down. Very interesting - Good luck to you!

School Anxiety Fears Quotes:

Fear is a darkroom where negatives develop. By Usman B. Asif Find out about School Anxiety Fears

No, not That High School Dream Again!

At least once, I'll bet you've had a school-related anxiety dream. By this, I mean a dream where you were back in school, at whatever educational level, and you weren't performing adequately.

Some people have school anxiety dreams involving absurd situations. I regularly have one where, thirteen years after the fact, someone decides I didn't earn enough credits to graduate from high school, and I have to go back. Others have dreams involving real situations they experienced, such as actual tests they wish they'd done better on. Whatever the imaginary circumstances, school anxiety dreams seem to be a common feature of our dreamscapes.

At first glance, school anxiety dreams seem tiresome. We often wake up from such dreams wondering why we can't dream about something more pleasant or interesting, and why these dreams have to recur so often. At best, we see school anxiety dreams as mildly refreshing, because it's such a relief to wake up and realize we're not actually back in school. However, I've come to believe these dreams actually contain very meaningful lessons for us.

I had this realization shortly after waking up from a particularly noxious school anxiety dream. As I've dreamed many times before, I had to go back to high school because somehow I hadn't completed my degree. But this time, the situation in the dream was worse. Final exams rolled around, and I'd forgotten to attend or do any homework for one of my classes. Thus, I was going to take an exam whose subject I knew nothing about. I awoke with an ugly tension in my neck and shoulders, and it took me a few minutes to shake it off and return to reality.

Normally, I do my best to quickly take my mind off my high school dreams after waking up from them. But this time, I was determined to figure out what my mind was trying to teach me by repeatedly sending me this dream. If I did that, I figured, maybe it wouldn't come back. Thus, I tried focusing my attention on the anxieties I felt in the dream. I asked myself: What was I really afraid would happen if I failed the class? Would I feel ashamed? Would my friends and loved ones disdain me? Would I die?

Surprisingly, asking these questions put me in touch with a reserve of inner strength I didn't know I had. I realized that, if my nightmare came true-if I actually had to go back to high school, and failed a class by forgetting it even existed-I would survive. I'd find a way to earn my degree, or maybe I wouldn't, but either way I would still manage to create an enjoyable and fulfilling life for myself. Somehow, everything would turn out okay. And, even more importantly, I'd still be able to love and respect myself.

It was then that I finally understood the lessons of this dream. I didn't have the dream simply because I had leftover anxiety from high school, or because my unconscious mind wanted to torment me for some reason. In fact, my unconscious mind created the dream to illustrate that I have more strength and ingenuity than I often give myself credit for. Even in circumstances as unpleasant as those in the dream, my mind was showing me, I'd still pull through. And my mind, I saw with sudden clarity, specifically chose to impart this knowledge in a school-related dream to show me I had something to learn about myself.

My recognition that I'd keep loving myself no matter how badly I "screwed up," and no matter how difficult the situation I found myself in, was perhaps even more important. That certainly wasn't always how I felt. If an experience like the one in the dream had actually happened to me back in high school, I don't think I would have been very loving toward myself. At that age, I probably would have gone through a period of seriously doubting whether I had a reason to keep living. My dream actually illustrated how much progress I've made in developing unconditional love for myself since I was a teenager.

If you're plagued by school anxiety dreams, consider the possibility that they aren't just attempts by your mind to torture or amuse you. Instead, suppose for a moment that your mind is trying to help you understand what a resourceful person you are, and how important it is for you to unconditionally love and appreciate yourself. Your mind is showing you that, no matter how stressful or "bad" your circumstances get, you'll most likely be able to survive, and you'll always be worthy of love. The best way to see school anxiety dreams from this perspective is, as I described, to imagine what the consequences would be if the "nightmare scenario" you fear came to pass.

As valuable and educational as my school anxiety dreams have been, I hope I don't need to have more of them. But if I ever do, I hope I have the presence of mind next time I have this dream to get up, walk out of my imaginary classroom and go enjoy the world-secure in the knowledge that, no matter what happens, I'll be able to get through it and love myself to boot.

Social Anxiety Fears Quotes:

Fear is the father of courage and the mother of safety. By Henry H. Tweedy Find out about Social Anxiety Fears

Social Anxiety Or Social Phobia

People with Social Anxiety or feel that they might have this condition must be opened about it and see a doctor to be given appropriate treatment before it's too late.

Have you experienced what it must be like meeting your big boss for the first time? The thought of being watched by your superior while working is stressful, isn't it? Or, maybe you are so anxious to go to a beach party because you have not shed enough pounds to wear the two-piece swim suit (who knows how many years have them!), and you are so worried on what the people might say if you wear them with those excess baggage wrapping around your body? Those feelings are just normally. For as long as you have reasons to be anxious about anything, it is perfectly normal .But, if the anxiety is eating you up and you become anxious about what other people might say, or think, or do to you, which you know does not have rational basis, and the worst part is, you find it difficult to control your thought or emotion, that is social anxiety.

Social anxiety or social phobia is one of the largest mental health care problems in the word in the present day. A person with social anxiety simply spends time alone, closeted, away from people. They tend to choose to be alone than to be around with other people for fear that they might not fit in some ways or the other. Even when they are with familiar people, they may still feel overwhelmed and have the feeling that every movement and thought they made have been constantly watched or criticized. The feeling of being observed or being misjudged is one of the things that keep them away from people.

People with social anxiety are often misdiagnosed and are usually labeled as schizophrenic, manic-depressive, among other detrimental misdiagnoses. Because there few social anxious people have heard of their own condition and have never seen it discussed on any media, they tend to think that they're alone in this world suffering from the disturbing symptoms. The tendency is they keep their condition to themselves for fear of being misjudged, and with the lack of info, education, and proper treatment social anxiety continues to impair their lives. In addition, when the time comes that people with social phobia finally gets to their feet and seeks help, the chances are very slim. When worst comes to worst, people who experienced this condition for a day, will have it everyday for the rest of hi/her life. They are people with social anxiety disorder.

One thing common to all socially anxious people is that they share the same knowledge that their thoughts and fears are basically irrational, which only means, they know exactly that the people they think are misjudging and criticizing them are not true at all. They acknowledged that their thoughts, doubts, and feelings are in a way exaggerated and irrational, yet, despite the fact that they know what's really going on, they find it hard to control, and still continue to feel that way.

If there's bad, there's always good, and the good thing is that social anxiety is curable. There are many therapeutic methods which have been studied, but cognitive-behavioral therapy is the only modality that has been made known to work effectively. Actually, the treatment of social phobia through cognitive-behavioral methods has the capacity to produce long-term, permanent relief to sufferers of social phobia. Isn't it a happy ending, after all?

Social Anxiety Fears <h2>Social Anxiety Fears Understanding</h2>
Do you have social anxiety?

I've had it since the age of 13 it's like a fear of being around lots of people in a crowded place. I always have this feeling as if I'm going to embarass myself in front of alot of people That's why I'm more private than public, and I only do public things when I have to. Do you have social anxiety, or any fears you would like to share?

There are many relaxation techniques that one can perform when they know that they are about to encounter a situation that is going to make them nervous. One of the methods is simply reasoning with yourself. Rationalize and think: Do I have any rational reason to be nervous? How is this going to affect my performance as well as my own perception of how I want others to perceive me? In addition, people shouldn't rely solely on prescription drugs to help them with their anxiety because a) it's not healthy to become too dependent on any one drug and b) you should always seek healthier alternatives to help yourself! Also, there is a growing problem with people becoming addicted to prescription medication. In order to stay out of that bracket, it is best if you just didn't start. Talk to others and brainstorm on ways that you can collectively work on lowering levels of anxiety. Make fun of yourselves (in a healthy way of course) and have fun with it!

Anxiety Genetic Disorder Quotes:

Fear can keep us up all night long but faith makes one fine pillow. By Philip Gulley Find out about Anxiety Genetic Disorder

Information And symptoms Of Anxiety attacks

The National Institute of Mental Health refers to anxiety attacks as part of the larger group known as panic Disorder.  Other names you might hear which fall under this bracket are anxiety disorder attacks, panic disorder attacks or most commonly, panic attacks.   Those who have experienced a panic attack are not alone, it is estimated that one in every 75 people in the world have had an anxiety attach at some point in their life.

Experiencing an anxiety attack is a feeling far more intense than that of feeling 'stressed out'  and sufferers report heart palpitations, nausea, chest pain, headaches and stomach aches.   It is normal for a person to experience one or two anxiety attacks in their lifetime.  However, when anxiety attacks occur regularly and begin to interfering with the persons lifestyle this could a sign of anxiety attack disorder.   Once the panic attacks start happening it is easy for the sufferer to then in turn develop a fear of the panic attacks, thus repeating the cycle.

Anxiety attacks have been described as a sudden feeling of fear, terror or dread which appears for no apparent reason.  These feelings can be accompanied by the physical symptoms of anxiety listed above or some of the following; sweating, faintness, hot or cold flushes, tingling or burning sensations on the skin or irrational thoughts.  Everybody is different though and this list is not exclusive, the symptoms may manifest themselves in a number of ways depending on the person.

The duration of the anxiety attack depends on the severity of the attack, some of the symptoms may be in effect for some days and hours later.   Most of the time the anxiety and panic attacks last anywhere between a few moments and half an hour.  Sometimes, an anxiety attack can also trigger more subsequent anxiety attacks to occur.

Though it can be found in all ages, anxiety attack disorder is most commonly found in the 17 to 25 age bracket.  They are more often reported by women than men, though this could be that men are more reluctant to seek help to overcome anxiety.

It is commonly thought that causes of anxiety are down to genetical or biological reasons, scientists have not found any evidence to support this theory.  Therefore, as far as our knowledge of this subject permits, anxiety disorders are behavioural and not inherited.   It is common for anxiety disorder to run in families but this is more likely due to environmental factors rather than genetic ones.

There are no quick fixes for this issue but the best thing you can do is make good use of the abundance of self-help material out there and employ the services of a good therapist.  A trained professional will be able to determine the root cause of your anxiety attacks and address them.   This may not be a quick process depending on the severity of your condition.  But persevere and it will be worth it in the end.

How do doctors diagnose Anxiety disorders?

I'm waiting to have an appointment with a doctor over possibly having a panic disorder. I've been having panic attacks for over a year now, I believe it could be genetic because my older brother had panic attacks all through his teens years. My panic attacks has gotten worse in the past few months, having several a day. My anxiety has gotten worse too, I get nervous and scared over the slightest things such as if I hear a cop car or if something bad has happened on the news. How do doctors diagnose anxiety disorders? what kind of tests is the patient put through?

Unfortunately as you would know there isnt a blood test for this sort of thing - your Dr will listen to you and ask questions and see how you respond they will then either prescribe medication or maybe refer you on to a psychologist or psychiatrist - if they go the med route then they will want to monitor you to see how your going on them and if they are working for you as there are many meds out there and not every one works for every person
