Lately I have had really severe anxiety. I feel like I should be in the hospital but I don't know what to do.

I have had panic attacks for four years, but I have just recently gotten anxiety with them. ( I only would get the physical symptoms) I have also been cutting for that long. I feel suicidal, but I don't really want to die. I just feel out of control. I am on medication but it will take awhile to start working. Every other fast acting anxiety medication I have been put on made me sick. What should I do?

Panic attacks shouldn't lead you to the hospital. In my opinion, you probably just need to talk, a lot. I know from personal experiance that finding a decent counsler/therapist is difficult, but if you haven't already - I would try.

As far as the cutting, and not wanting to die, I went through that as well when I was about 16. I'm 20 now, and I promise you things will get better. Don't give up.

In all honesty, bad feelings never go away - but your way of dealing with them and viewing the world WILL.

P.S. I did a lot better without the meds, you have to be strong and have a good head on your shoulder and know what you want though. There's many natural ways to go about things and feel better about life and yourself :)

can someone tell me their symptoms of anxiety please?

i need to know so i don`t feel all alone here. i have anxiety/panic disorder for years. what are some of your symptoms is what i want to know and is their any special techniques i can use to calm myself down when i have a full blown attack ?
please do not say meds, i am on anxiety medicine for years,xanax and its not really workin for me now, i have to take more of it to even feel the affects

This is what happens to me: I will start to feel like my throat is closing up and I worry about not being able to breathe. Then my chest starts hurting because I can't get a good breath. All the while my heart will be racing and I will be thinking that I am going to die. I try and find ways out of where I am because I feel like I am going to pass out.

What helped me was just knowing what was happening. Now I can tell myself that I am not going to die and this will be over soon. If you kinda just ride it and try to breathe, it seems to be over quicker. If my boyfriend is around I'll have him come sit with me just to be there.

My therapist went over some breathing and visualization techniques that work for me. You breathe in slow and visualize breathing in a good, calm energy (mine just looks like water), and then breathe out slow and imagine all the anxiety coming out. The breathing by itself didn't really help me, but the images did.

I hope this helps. I know how hard it can be. I've had social and general anxiety and panic disorder for years and I didn't find out until less than a year ago. That's why I say it helps just knowing what is going on. So far meds haven't really helped me, but trying to live a more balanced and relaxed lifestyle have been key. Good luck to you!

I have always been very self conscious about my appearance as I stand out in a crowd. I have a great level insecurity due to the stares I sometimes get of people, and also because some of the names people have called me in the past which have reinforced how I perceive myself in regards to being ugly and feeling insecure.
