Fear is the father of courage and the mother of safety. By Henry H. Tweedy Find out about Depression Mental Illness
Depression mental illness
Do you suffer from depression? Are you close to someone who suffers from depression? Do you try to hide this fact from the rest of the world? Depression is a mental illness. MENTAL illness. Oh that can’t be admitted to anyone! Why not? We accept that our physical body becomes ill, gets diseased, sustains injury so why not our brain?
There is such a stigma attached that we are kept from disclosing to others what is wrong. Others appear to think that a sufferer is either “mad” or needs to pull himself together.
Fortunately society is coming round to the realisation that depression is as much an illness as cancer. For this reason it is becoming easier for the sufferer to seek help by admitting to himself that there is something wrong which needs medical attention.
How do you know when to see your doctor, or persuade your family member or friend that she should seek help? Well depression can come suddenly or creep up gradually so you will decide by what you see or feel. Sudden depression can descend as a full blown mental illness for which the doctor, or ambulance, will immediately be called. In these cases it is taken out of the hands of the sufferer.
Supposing though it has crept up very slowly and is held at bay at certain times but comes out at others. Then you will need to look for various symptoms. Make out a check list and actively observe what is happening.
Mood is depressed. By this I do not mean that the sufferer is a bit blue. This is an ongoing sadness and emptiness. Can be expressed by appearing very tearful. Cannot be shaken off.
feelings of worthlessness. Not wanting to tackle anything because of the sureness that it will not turn out right as they are useless at everything
Lack of interest. Cannot get enthused by tasks or events which have in the past been a joy. Doesn’t want to do anything about it. Maybe does try but can’t get involved. Takes no pleasure in anything. Everything is pointless.
Lack of concentration. Unable to keep the mind focused on the task in hand. May flit from one thing to another without achieving any end result.
Can’t sleep, or sleeps too long. Depression often turns a person into an insomniac. Can’t get to sleep easily. Then wakes often throughout the night taking a long time to get off to sleep again. Can have trouble waking and getting up when morning comes.
Lethargy. Throughout the day feeling tired and lacking in energy
Weight loss. There may be a lack of interest in eating and drinking and over time this will result in weight loss without conscious dieting or exercise. Tempt with little and often but don’t expect the sufferer to tuck into a three course lunch.
Thoughts of death and/or suicide. May have ideas as to committing suicide or even some sort of plan.
If you keep a record of what you see or feel over a two week time span you will discover just how much affect this mental illness is having. Don’t expect to see all these symptoms. Also it is not always easy to spot as there may be quite a lot of cover up if the sufferer is at a stage where he can attempt to put on a front for others to see.
Let’s suppose that the sufferer is someone close to you, perhaps within the family. You see them everyday. You will be able to keep an eye on the condition so that you are aware of what is happening when the sufferer is entering an episode of depression. The person himself does not always notice. If you can see an episode starting you can suggest the taking of the prescribed medication.
Be prepared. Depression very, very rarely goes away forever. It recurs. Just be ready to take action on behalf of the sufferer.
Knowing about this illness helps both sufferers and carers. For more information about depression, visit: Depression FAQs

Anyone prescribed/taken mood stabilizers during pregnancy?
I'm bipolar and 20 weeks pregnant. Right now I'm seriously in the low end of the spectrum. I'm really worried about post partem depression considering that I'm already prone to having manic/depression episodes. I've taken the meds before and I can't function even on the low doses. Anti-depressants don't work at all. I just wanted to hear other people who may have been bipolar during pregnancy.
And yes, I will be speaking to my doctor, but that doesn't do any good without hearing some other opinions on the matter. I've tried going non-medicated and I really don't believe that it's very healthy for me to go without.
Just give me an opinion and preferably not a condescending one.
I'm sorry, but I don't know of any bipolar meds that are totally safe during pregnancy. I'm an OB nurse and I'm bipolar. There is nothing out there, that I'm aware of that I would take during pregnancy. While I was pregnant with my last child (4 years ago) I took wellbutrin to manage the depression, but it only mildly helped. I too was very worried about post partum depression. I got back on my meds very shortly after delivery and everything turned out ok. Its very important that your doctor is aware that you are bipolar now, so the two of can be on the same page about your treatment before and after delivery. By the way, if you see a psychiatrist talk to him/her, sometimes they can use different "safe" combinations of nonconventional meds to get the desired effect. Usually you would have to see a psychiatrist for that though, an ob or a family doctor may not be able to do that. Good luck to you.

Why You Can Trust Dr. David Provost for Weight Loss Surgery
Obesity has become a major concern for U.S. doctors, because it carries with it a number of possible health complications, such as diabetes, heart disease, and high blood pressure. In addition, obesity can also lead to mental and emotional problems, including low self-esteem and depression.
Fortunately, continued advances in medical technology have provided a surgical alternative for the treatment of obesity. Dr. David Provost is a pioneer in the field of bariatric surgery, and has been performing weight loss surgery procedures for nearly 20 years. In fact, he was the first surgeon to perform a successful laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery in Texas. Dr. Provost also began performing gastric banding surgery, better known as the Lap-Band procedure, starting in 2001, when the FDA approved the use of the Lap-Band in the United States.
Dr. Provost believes that weight loss surgery offers obese patients who have been unable to achieve a normal weight through diet and exercise a safe and effective means of losing weight through surgical intervention. However, it is not a quick fix. Patients need to be aware of the risks involved, as well as the long-term lifestyle changes that weight loss surgery requires.
To ensure that patients are well-informed, Dr. Provost hosts regular information seminars at the Presbyterian Hospital of Denton in Denton, TX, about the pros and cons of weight loss surgery. Patients are able to learn the differences between various bariatric procedures and ask questions of Dr. Provost and his staff.
For patients who choose to undergo weight loss surgery at Provost Bariatrics, Dr. Provost places great emphasis on the need for regular follow-up visits to monitor their weight loss and overall health. Both before and after surgery, patients are expected to eat a healthy diet and monitor their caloric intake, and also begin a regular exercise program. In addition, patients are encouraged to participate in support group meetings to promote accountability and provide an opportunity for them to share their experiences with their peers.
As a veteran surgeon in the field of bariatrics, Dr. Provost knows firsthand that weight loss surgery is not the ultimate cure for obesity. But, he believes it is an effective tool to help patients make the necessary lifestyle changes to lose weight, improve their health, and extend their life expectancy.

Fish oil is still a popular health supplement
Benefits of fish oil
Most cold-water fish contain oil in their cavity net. This oil is rich in omega 3 fatty acids, DHA and EPA. These nutrients are typically used to manage inflammation of the body.
Types of fish that have high levels of omega-3 containing fish oil are trout, tuna, salmon, and sardines. However, consumption of these fish in a very large quantity can be harmful because of the high concentration of toxins from the body by a process known as biomagnification, as these fish are relatively higher in the food chain.
The oil industry Fish is the most profitable in Norway, Chile, Iceland and Peru, the latter being the largest in the company. Omega-3 fatty acids not only help to diagnose inflammation, but also to control cholesterol and improve body composition, because of the influence EPA and DHA on PPAR.
DHA is docosahexaenoic acid and EPA stands for eicosapentaenoic acid, which are both types of omega-3 essential widespread in fish oil.
Here we must remember that none of these Omega 3 compositions are produced by fish independently. Microalgae photosynthetic organic reactions and other autotrophs are original makers of EPA and DHA. The first is a precedent and a necessary condition for the formation of the latter. These three formations fatty acids Omega begins to change as they reach higher levels Tropic.
DHA Benefits include reduced risk of heart disease, maintaining adequate proportion of serotonin in the brain and the fight against manic depression.
Recent developments in research have sufficient evidence to assert that DHA plays a positive role in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease, arthritis, depression and postpartum coronary arteries, Cancer Prevention and benefits for nursing females.
Studies show that women who are pregnant need to supplement their daily diet with higher amounts of DHA. This increases the omega-3 fatty acids in breast milk, which in turn proves to be very beneficial for the baby.
EPA is apparently very important in the diagnosis of schizophrenia. It should be noted that diabetes inhibits the body's ability to EPA. These people should take other supplements EPA to maintain adequate levels of it.
For this reason, food supplements such as yogurt and milk containing DHA and EPA and other omega 3 fatty acids have been introduced on the market for consumption.
Fish oil is extracted from the fish's body and not by the liver (cod liver oil). The omega 3 and omega-6 are essentially kinds of essential fatty acids polyunsaturated. The human body needs adequate amounts of both. Omega 3 is generous in fish oil. Other sources of this type of fat acid include nuts, avocados, flax seeds, eggs and lactose rich food.
An important point to note here is that this is not the fish oil that is the diagnosis. However, the Omega 3 fatty acid. Fish oil is the most effective means of eat.
It is always advisable to consult your doctor before starting supplements of fish oil.

Network Chiropractic Care for Depression
Are you looking for a practitioner who offers Network Chiropractic care for depression in Fort Collins, Colorado? As I’m sure you already know depression is an ailment that affects millions of people, robbing them of their health, happiness, and vitality. In an age where antidepressants are passed out like candy, it’s refreshing to know that other options exist for those who want a more natural and holistic route to healing their depression. Network Chiropractic care fills this need and gives people the tools to regain control of their life.
Every person experiences his or her depression differently. One person can have severe insomnia and anxiety, while another experiences chronic pain and persistent pessimism. This is why traditional treatment methods do not work for everyone the same way. Network Chiropractic care focuses on each person as a unique individual and takes into consideration their specific set of circumstances, physicality, biorhythms, symptoms, and lifestyles.
The causes of depression can vary. Some people carry a genetic predisposition for it, while others begin to experience depression after a traumatic event in their lives. Depression can also be a result of hormonal imbalances. No matter what the cause may be, one aspect is consistent… there is a change within the brain’s chemistry and/or function that allows depression to consume an individual.
Network Chiropractic is the perfect care for depression because of how the entrainment affects the brain. The brain communicates with and regulates all the systems of the body through the spinal cord, which has delicate nerves running off of it, exiting through the spaces between the vertebrae in the spine and traveling out towards every aspect of the body. When an individual experiences any degree of stress, be it mental, emotional or physical, distortion is created within the spinal cord itself. This distortion then interferes with the nervous system’s ability to communicate properly with the brain, thus creating a ripple effect of ill-health through the entire system.
The main focus of this chiropractic care is to release the distortion within the spinal cord by gently applying specific pressure to the points where the spinal cord and vertebrae connect. Rather than focusing on adjusting the vertebrae themselves, as in traditional chiropractic, Network Chiropractic focuses on specific contact points, called spinal gateways, which alters the state or tone of the spinal cord, allowing the vertebrae to self correct and the neurology to release tension held in the system. The effect is a feeling of calm and peace.
While receiving Network care, people are strongly encouraged to be conscious participants with all aspects of their health, which includes nutrition, lifestyle, and stress management. In doing so, they become aware of their state of being at every moment, allowing them to take control of their health and well-being.
By relieving distortions within the spinal cord, Network Chiropractic care entrains the body to move towards higher and higher levels of health and consciousness. This has a tremendous effect on those that live with depression. Many who have received this care have seen significant changes in their mental, emotional, and physical symptoms, while some have even been able to reduce or eliminate their medications.

Depression - What's your experience?
Hello, I have suffered from depression/anxiety nearly 4 years ago which eventually mounted to talking to a psychiatrist for about 45 minutes and slowly recovered after that in about a month. I did reach a very low point for about a week or two where I lost hope and was just chugging along hoping for better days to come. Now I'm in the pit of it again and I went to see my family doctor who gave me a prescription saying it was up to you, as I only have thoughts and not actions. She referred to that psychiatristic again but he won't be available to see me for another month. My depression/anxiety includes derealization and dissociation as the world seems like a dream and it's strange how it just floats in space. I've had this thought before but only accompanied with depression/anxiety.
I was prescribed Celexa and said it was my choice as it my condition cleared up on it's own with a bit of talk therapy. I have a very supportive network of family, friends and doctors.
Should I take meds?
To be honest, in my own opinion, you should not resort to taking drugs prescribed from doctors. It's my belief that it's just doctors way of getting rich quick. I took lexapro for my depression 2 years ago. The first two weeks I felt better, I was actually happy for once, but this is also when I met my boyfriend. After those two weeks, I got worse. I felt terrible, I was even more depressed than I was before and now paranoid. After doing research on the internet I decided to quit using it altogether. Those SSRI's have way to many negative affects!
To tell you the truth, what I find that has worked for me is exercise, eating healthy, taking vitamins, keeping my mind busy, and talking to family members or trusted friends about my problems helps A LOT. Or in your case, having a doctor you can talk to can help you a lot.
I've been taking psychology in college and I learned something helpful about depression. Your amygdala, a part of the brain that is responsible for emotions or fear is turned on and has trouble turning off like normal brains do. A good way to turn off your amygdala is by keeping busy with work, and other activities. Ever notice when your busying your mind with a mathmatical equation you aren't feeling those depressed emotions? When your not doing anything or just sitting around your brain goes over and over those bad memories making them locked into your brain even more.
Well I tried my best to explain, I'm sorry if this doesnt make any sense to you. But I hope it helps in some small way.
But I only believe that if you are depressed you don't need medications. I dont know a thing about treating Bipolor or anything else, meds could very well be good for those who have different disorders other than depression.

Nature's remedies are becoming more and more popular with people who are steering away from prescription drugs for one reason or another. With the current economic environment, more people are out of work, many are finding themselves without health insurance, and most Americans are simply looking for ways to simplify their lives and finances. Many are turning toward natural vitamin supplements and holistic therapies. The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) shows that more people are using alternative therapies to treat pain. As a matter of fact, 38% of American adults are using some form of holistic medicine or alternative therapy and collectively spending $34 billion on it each year. Natural arthritis remedies are one of many holistic options gaining increased popularity.
Natural supplements are an important aspect to holistic health and have also been growing in popularity over recent years. Baby boomers are increasingly turning to supplements as a way to fight off diseases such as Arthritis, Alzheimer's, Diabetes and Prostate Cancer. Clinical studies have shown that St. John's Wort may be helpful in treating cases of mild depression; Ginkgo appears to slow the progression of Alzheimer's in patients with the disease, and Flexcin with cetyl myristoleate (CM8) is one of the most well respected natural arthritis remedies on the market. It can do wonders for joints by reversing the damage caused by arthritis. Acting like a WD-40-like lubricant for joints, CM8 can promote optimal joint health by helping to stimulate the lubricating fluid in the joints, support stronger cartilage and increase total mobility.
Vitamin supplements are becoming more popular as a replacement to prescription pain medications because they're less expensive, there's no need to maneuver around confusing health insurance, and there's no dangerous side effects since they're manufactured with all-natural ingredients. But with all the choices of supplements on the market, how do you pick the right one?
Here are a few tips:
Customer Reviews: Look for customer reviews that give you important insight into the dependability of the supplements. Both negative and positive customer reviews can tell you a lot about a supplement.
Research the company and product: Make sure it has plenty of credibility on social networking sites, blogs and reviews from others who've tried it with success.
Media coverage: This is not to be confused with advertisements that are paid for by a company. These are true news stories that journalists have published in magazines or newspapers or aired on TV news stations. Because journalism is unbiased, being featured in the news holds a great deal of credibility for the company and its product.
If you are considering natural arthritis remedies or other forms of holistic health care options, discuss your options with a health-care provider, and ask their advice on using holistic therapies and dietary supplements to treat your condition once it's diagnosed.

Say Goodbye to Pregnancy Belly Fat for Good
Have you had your baby a few months ago but it still looks like you’ve got a bun in the oven? Are you resigned to the fact that your post pregnancy belly fat is here to stay? None of those things are true and it’s actually not as hard as you think when you combine a few easy techniques into your everyday life.
By losing the pregnancy belly fat you’ll feel great about yourself, experience more energy, and have a happier disposition to share with your new baby. You’re a mom, but you’re still a woman who deserves to feel great about the way you look.
Think how great you’ll feel when you can slip back into your favorite jeans once the pregnancy belly fat disappears. It’s a fact that moms who feel good about themselves have more joy, have much lower rates of postpartum depression, and enjoy the experience of motherhood more. Pregnancy belly fat isn’t as hard to lose as it seems. Here are a few techniques to help you start looking and feeling great.
Think long term.
It took almost a year for the pregnancy belly fat to accumulate so don’t get upset when it doesn’t fall off in the first few weeks. Having a realistic goal starting out will keep you motivated. Unrealistic goals will make you feel like you’re defeated before you even begin. Researchers from the University of Toronto said that people who have what’s called the false hope syndrome almost always drop out of their weight loss program because they realize they can’t meet the lofty goals they set up for themselves.
Start eating for you and not for two!
Many moms still eat like they’re pregnant with triplets. Keeping a food journal is a great way to see just how many empty calories you’re eating and what kinds of food you are consuming. If you eat the right kinds of food such as lean proteins and vegetables you can keep your calories down, stay full, and still lose the post pregnancy belly fat.
Ditch the juice and pop and start drinking good old fashioned water.
Juice and sodas have nothing but empty calories and sugar in them. You’d be surprised by how much post pregnancy belly fat will melt away by skipping out on sugary drinks. Drink at least 64 ounces of water each day.
Implement these easy to do techniques and you’ll notice the pregnancy belly fat disappearing. Keep it up long enough and you just might need to go out and get yourself a whole new wardrobe.

Why you should take DHA during Pregnancy
Have you read about this recently? The subject of DHA during pregnancy began to become a subject of interest once it was discovered just how important a role this omega fatty acid plays in the cognitive development of infants. What scientists wanted to know was whether supplementing the mother’s diet with omega fatty acids during the third trimester of pregnancy would help these children to developmentally advance.
The role of DHA on the cognitive development of infants and children prompted companies to begin adding this fatty acid to their infant formulas, and other food items. DHA is an omega-3 long chain polyunsaturated fatty acid, which is present within every cell within our bodies. This nutrient is critical to the development and function of the brain, eyes, and central nervous system.
Supplementing your diet with additional DHA during pregnancy is important, because our main source of DHA is the foods that we eat. Infants are dependent on the mother to supply them with the nutrients that they need while in the womb, and later on if the infant is sustained solely on breast milk. Most pregnant women fail to get the recommended amount of DHA through their diets.
Deficiencies in this omega fatty acid can inhibit the cognitive development of your fetus, lead to visual impairment, increase the risk of premature deliveries, and make it more likely that you will suffer from postpartum depression. If you are new to the idea of omega fatty acid supplementation, or have just never thought too much about it, consider the following:
Pediatrics journal published a 2003 study on DHA during pregnancy which stated that the children of women that supplemented their diets with this fatty acid scored higher on intelligence tests than the children of women who took no supplements. There are other published studies that concur on the advanced abilities shown by children that had high DHA levels at birth.
These studies have shown that these children possessed advanced attention spans into the second year of their lives, and that during the first six months of their lives they were on average two months ahead of their peers whose mothers had low levels of DHA. It is also suggested that that infants with high DHA levels have IQ’s six to ten points higher than DHA deficient infants.
As you can see, supplementing DHA during pregnancy is important to both you and your baby. Your baby however has the most to gain by having higher levels of omega fatty acids in his or her system. So, in order to ensure that your baby is receiving adequate levels of DHA, and is not unnecessarily exposed to toxic contaminants, I suggest a good fish oil supplement in lieu of eating actual fish.
Now that you know this, by using fish oil supplement to get your DHA during pregnancy you can verify what type of fish the oil came from, whether it came from a pure water source, and exactly what the level of each trace contaminants is. This way you can make sure that the omega fatty acids in your child’s system are of the highest quality possible.

Caffeine, Health and Recovery
Anyone in recovery desires several things. You want to remain free of the drug you had been using and you want to alleviate the negative physical and emotional conditions that were created by that addiction. Hopefully, you also want to lead a healthier life in general. In order to move along a new path in life in which you are becoming and staying healthier, you must not only stay free of your previous substance abuse, but you should live in a more wholesome manner, one that is not just, not unhealthy, but one that actively promotes good health. One important way to do this is to detoxify your body and keep it free of all harmful, toxic substances. To do this, you ought to eliminate certain habits to avoid these other substances, in addition to remaining free of the drug you were abusing. For this reason, knowledge of the effects of various foods and chemicals is essential to being able to find and stay on the path that leads you to better and better health.
Sometimes sociological conditions and peer influences can distort ones view of the real situation. A good example of this was cigarette smoking. Older movies are a good indication of the social norms at the time. Not only did most people start smoking in social situations, but the person who did not smoke was considered not really as much a part of the social group. Of course, now most people are fully aware that not only is nicotine very addicting, but the intake of the toxic smoke is extremely harmful and unwise, and it is morally wrong to make those around you inhale toxic second hand smoke. Today, things are different and it is the person who wants to smoke, who is a bit of an outsider, and who often finds themselves literally outside, when they have to smoke in another location, like outside a restaurant or even outside an apartment where they are a visitor.
Today, caffeine is an accepted drug, just like nicotine was many years ago. In fact, caffeine is the most widely used drug in the world. Some may feel that it is probably not as harmful as the toxic smoke that went along with nicotine addiction and cigarette smoking. Nevertheless, there is no doubt, that caffeine is very harmful to the health of a person. In the Western world, 8 out of 10 adults consume caffeine in some form. Presently many Americans are hooked on caffeine. Ninety percent consume it in one form or another every single day. Over half of them consume more than 300 milligrams of caffeine every day. It is in coffee, tea, soda, chocolate, and a variety of other things, and is our nation's most popular drug.
Caffeine occurs naturally in many plants, including coffee beans, tea leaves, and cocoa nuts. Caffeine is really a biological poison used by plants as a defense against being harmed and injured by the other forms of life in their environment. The caffeine gives seeds and leaves a bitter taste, which discourages their consumption by insects and animals. If predators continue to eat a caffeine-containing plant, the caffeine can cause central nervous system disruptions and even lethal side effects. Most of them learn to leave the plant alone.
Though it is widely known that caffeine is an addictive and unhealthy drug, it is widely consumed and as much a part of American contemporary life as smoking was years ago. With the spread of and popularity of coffee bars, coffee, one of the main sources of caffeine in people's diet, is more popular than ever. (Tea and hot chocolate, also consumed at these coffee bars contain significant caffeine, but not as much.) Around one third of all coffee drinkers say they can't do without it and are clearly addicted. Tolerance for caffeine for anyone drinking coffee can develop rapidly and lead to the desire to increase ones consumption. Someone used to drinking six or seven cups of strong coffee a day will begin to experience withdrawal symptoms on waking and then every two to three hours after the last coffee drink. If you are seeking optimum health, however, you should severely curtail your coffee consumption, and eventually stop consuming it at all. It is a drug and the last thing any of us needs is another addiction.
When most people think of caffeine they immediately think of coffee, and yet much of the caffeine that is ingested does not come from coffee at all. In fact, people who do not drink coffee may be ingesting quite a great deal of caffeine regularly. The fact is, caffeine is an addictive additive in most commercial sodas.
Caffeine has many effects on the body and brain. For example, as your body becomes fatigued, adenosine is made in the brain, and binds to adenosine receptors. This causes drowsiness by slowing nerve cell activity. The result is that you will want to stop and rest. You will want to go to sleep. This is healthy, for you need the rest. The adenosine also causes blood vessels to dilate in the brain, so more oxygen can reach the brain during sleep.
When caffeine is ingested and goes into the stomach, it quickly travels to the brain. Once there it binds to the adenosine nerve receptors. But instead of cellular activity slowing, this results in it speeding up. The cell can no longer bind with adenosine, because the caffeine is linked up with all of its available receptors. The usual effect of adenosine is blocked in this way and the cell begins accelerating its activity. In addition to this, because adenosine is shut out, the brain's blood vessels begin to constrict. The increased neuron firing in the brain stimulates the pituitary gland. The pituitary signals the adrenal glands to produce adrenaline (epinephrine), the "fight or flight" hormone.Unfortunately, when the adrenaline wears off, you feel fatigued and that drives you to get more caffeine. As you go through this cycle many times through the day, you will find yourself becoming more and more irritable.
Caffeine raises the blood pressure and increases the levels of various stress hormones, and for those very sensitive to it or consuming large quantities, it can cause heart palpitations and nervousness. If sustained by regular coffee drinking over a lifetime, these increases in blood pressure and heart rate will elevate the risk of stroke and heart disease. Heavy coffee drinkers, those having five or more cups per day, were two to three times more likely to have coronary heart disease than were nondrinkers.
Caffeine at a high level can eventually lead to exhaustion of the adrenal glands. Caffeine is a chemical stimulant that increases blood levels of the hormones produced by the adrenal glands. The adrenal hormones regulate stress response, blood pressure, blood sugar, mineral levels, immune activity, inflammation, and cell growth and repair. Long term caffeine consumption contributes to adrenal insufficiency, in which over 150 hormones produced by the adrenals or metabolized from adrenal hormones no longer function adequately.
Caffeine causes the body to produce greater amounts of cortisol, the body's stress hormone. These elevated levels can last for hours having a negative effect on serotonin and dopamine production. Anxiety will increase and even depression can result from these changes.
People sometimes feel sharper after their cup of coffee, however the increased cortisol will lead to restricted blood to the brain and eventually causes poorer mental performance.
People who chronically stimulate their adrenal glands to overproduce cortisol alter their daily pattern of cortisol concentrations so that cortisol is low in the morning when they wake up instead of high. So they reach for a cup of coffee to artificially spike their cortisol levels up again. These same people experience huge cortisol surges at meals causing them to overeat. They have higher body fat, lower muscle mass, and reduced metabolism, so they burn fewer calories. They don't sleep well at night because elevated cortisol levels keep them from entering the deep, rebuild and repair stage of sleep the body needs for recuperation. High levels of cortisol will also compromise your immune system and interfere with your body's ability to fight off pathogens.
Be aware that if you frequently drink coffee or have other sources of caffeine, including ,especially, the many popular caffeinated sodas ,and find that at end of the day you are regularly stressed out and exhausted, even depressed and worried, it could very well be the result of the caffeine generating large amounts of cortisol in your body.
In the end, those seeking the healthiest life should avoid the caffeine to be found in many popular beverages. You should avoid caffeinated coffee, and even Decaf, which is not totally caffeine free, and get in the habit of reading the ingredients on the labels of all sodas and drinks, and choose only the ones which are free of caffeine. Fortunately, for those in successful recovery from alcohol, which had caused hangovers and interfered with the important REM sleep, the powerful need for caffeine in the form of coffee in the morning no longer exists.

You block your dream when you allow your fear to grow bigger than your faith. By Mary Manin Morrissey Find out about Manic Depression Diet
About Diet And The Manic Depression On People
In the world of science, diet and the manic depression, especially the manic depression, are really challenging for doctors all over the world. It's very little researched and the cures are not that productive.
In the past, people suffering from diet and the manic depression used to lose so much because of this disorder; they used to lose their family, their friends, and due to lack of treatment, they even lost their lives. In our days, modern technology and medicine made some small steps towards curing and more important, helping those people suffering from diet and the manic depression.
Before starting to treat the depression, bipolar disorders and other related syndromes, doctors need to learn what they are, what exactly causes them and what the best solution to fight against it is. This needs to be done with the minimum effort and stress from the patients point of view. This has never been easy however, especially over the last few decades. Some breakthrough has been made, like the use of Lithium in the curing process, the same element that is used for seizure attacks.
In some ways the diet and the manic depression are somehow related to the seizure attacks that some people experience. There are also other ways to approach the problem, through psychology. Holistic Psychology is not just a simple prescription for the treatment.
It assumes that the ill patient is ready and at a level where he or she actively wants to recover. This implies a strong will, and the capability to go over unscripted and unexpected obstacles. In the diet and the manic depression, the diet is very important. A lot of time over the last few decades, this aspect wasn't even considered as a factor involved in the process of depression. But nowadays, researchers have made a step forward in this direction too, and how some lighted minds suggested, we should pay more attention to this.
An equilibrated diet may lead to unexpected results in a treatment in a pleasant way. The overall situation will start to change to a positive side, and the patient is feeling more active, more motivated, etc., feelings that are useful for psychologists in their treatments.
Nutrition and exercises also play a very important role in the treatment of the manic depression. In order to stay healthy and fit, the body needs exercise. What you need is to find an exercise program that best feats your needs and follow it strictly every day, or at least each week, as it can be excellent for your overall health.
I was diagnosed with bi-polar disorder at a very young age. I am on a mood stabilizer, which helps me from becoming manic, but it does not stop the depression.I don't want to be on a ton of drugs, so i was curious if anyone had advice on a diet or certain foods that have a positive effect in curbing depression.

5 Tips To Help You Out Of A Gambling Addiction Crisis
When you are in a gambling addiction crisis, this is a very dangerous time. You may have lost a lot of money, lost your job, or perhaps your home. A gambling addiction crisis is usually a time where suicidal thoughts and actions are at their highest. There is help and hope, and you are certainly not alone in your situation. Here are some tips to help you through your crisis so that you can stay away from gambling long enough to start thinking clearly again.

yourself. Depending upon what country you live in, there will be different Hotlines that you can call. Here are just a couple.

Please call a suicide hotline in your country immediately. People care.. they will help you through your crisis.

2. Promise yourself that you will not gamble.. at least for the next 24 hours. Gambling addiction effects our brain chemistry. While you are in action, your brain chemistry (dopamine, serotonin, norepinephrine) changes temporarily. You have got to stay away from gambling for several months before your brain chemistry truly goes back to normal. You will, however, feel better for each 24 hour period that you stay away from gambling.
3. Make sure that you nourish yourself properly. You may be dehydrated after gamblling for several hours, and you most likely lack proper nourishment. Have a good meal and plenty of water, even though you may have lost your appetite. Your body needs its' nourishment. This will also help your mood as well.
4. Go online and research the topic of gambling addiction. Learn as much as you can about the subject. Knowledge is power, and the more you know, the better you will be able to help yourself through the crisis. Think about joining some Gambling Addiction Forums such as recoveryzone.org, revolutionhealth.com, femalegamblers.org, sfcghub.com are all great online forums where you maintain your anonymity. Also, check out gamblersanonymous.org for local groups that meet in person in your area.(If you have been to a meeting before, and relapsed, the group will welcome you back with open arms).
5. ***Forgive yourself****. Tell yourself that you will get better and that you will do whatever it takes to get free from the grip of this horrible addiction. Realize that you are not alone, and you are not weak or immoral. You have a gambling addiction that has taken control of you. There is hope.. and you will.. and can get better.
Best of luck to you.

6 Ways to Duck Darts in the Internet Jungle!
I started blogging in May of 2006. I wanted to create a place on the internet where I could accomplish two goals:
Goal #1.
I wanted to give my opinions on Current Events and, hopefully, encourage others to join me in a lively exchange of ideas. You see, I am a retired Radio/TV News broadcaster. Giving my opinions was something I did not have the luxury of doing during my career because I had to remain neutral. Now, I can give my opinions and I am having great fun doing it!
Goal #2.
I wanted to make a little extra money in my retirement while learning something new. Many male retirees head for the golf course, the bowling alley, even the Club to down a few beers and talk sports. None of that appeals to me so I chose to learn something new - the internet and blogging.
Well, what began as simple goals grew into nearly a full time project! I now have 15 blogs covering various topics! I chose Blogger.com because it's totally Free! It's a Google company so I automatically get great exposure. As of this writing, my pages have been viewed over 8,000 times! Not bad for someone who knew absolutely nothing about the internet.
Trying to make a little extra money was a bit tougher. I quickly got lost in the jungle of internet marketing, dodging the darts from various tribes (marketers). I began exploring any path that seemed promising, that would lead me out of the jungle. I signed up for countless newsletters, forums, and special packages of Free stuff. My computer files were quickly loaded with tons and tons of directions to do this and that. I was quickly lost and overwhelmed by the choices. It took over an hour each day just to get through all the emails from marketers!
It quickly became clear that I needed a guide, someone or something, a guide that could really show me the way out of the jungle. One thing I knew, right off the bat was: Hold onto my money!
I have read of folks, like me, who have spent thousands of dollars on the various get-rich-overnight schemes only to be disappointed. Are in that category? Have you already spent hundreds or thousands of dollars only to be disappointed? Are you still lost in the internet jungle, trying to buy your way out?
As of this article I have only spent $127.00 on internet marketing programs. I got a refund of $17.00 of that from a marketer who misrepresented his product. But, I did not get the refund from him. I got the refund from my credit card company. They are going after him for the $17.00. You see, he lives in another country. I'll explain why this was a problem in a minute.
Here is how to avoid being scammed by internet marketing hucksters:
#1 - Use Google, Yahoo, and MSN to search by the name of the program that interests you.
Not only will you find positive comments but, if the program is a scam, you will find negative comments as well. If it's a relatively new program you might not find anything either way. If you find nothing - DO NOTHING! Don't be the first victim and always remain cautious as you move through the steps outlined here.
#2 - Make sure there is a 100% No-Questions-Asked-Money-Back-Guarantee!
This is not always completely safe as evidenced by the $17.00 I had to get back. That marketer pleaded poverty and said he did not have the money to issue a refund. He offered to give me a different product in exchange for my refund. While most marketers will honor their guarantee, this guy was obviously a scam artist. It only takes a few to empty your wallet.
#3 - Know who you are dealing with.
Reputable marketers will disclose their identity up front. There should be an easy way to contact them and their name and location should be readily available. One of the things I regularly do is send them an email with questions about the product. I wait to see how long it takes them to respond and how clear their answer is. If they do not respond within 24 hours, move on. Do not buy the product. Obviously they will not respond quickly when you need help with their product.
#4 - If you do buy a program, make sure you test it immediately.
The idea here is to be sure you are within the time frame of the guarantee to ask for a refund if you are not satisfied. Some of the programs take some time to implement. You may have to ask questions of the author. All this takes time. The clock begins ticking when you download the program or method.
#5 - Know the country of origin.
This ties in with knowing who you are dealing with. The interenet is worldwide in scope. I am in the United States. I have downloaded Free stuff from many marketers in many countries around the world.
Here is the important thing to remember: They are not bound by the Internet Marketing Laws of the United States! That's right. It may be difficult, if not impossible, to get a refund from a foreign scam artist.
The marketer I mentioned earlier was from Quebec, Canada. My credit card company operates in Canada so they are after him. They already have credited my card for the $17.00. Bottom line: Do your research (see #1 above) before you whip out the plastic!
#6 - Search online for Internet Scams.
I left this for last because there is no single website that lists every single scam. That would literally be an impossible task. But, all do list a few scams so save this step for when you have exhausted all the other steps. Just Google "Internet Scams" to find these types of websites. Some of these allow you to report a scam as well.
I hope this will be your guide out of the internet marketing jungle. It has served me well. I trust it will serve you and save you a lot of money and frustration.
Remember this - It's Get Rich Slow that works everytime!
Yours for success in life.
Jim DeSantis
P.S. - Please forward this article to someone who may benefit from it.
