Depression Recovery Time Quotes:

There are people who have an appetite for grief; pleasure is not strong enough and they crave pain. They have mithridatic stomachs which must be fed on poisoned bread natures so doomed that no prosperity can sooth their ragged and dishevelled desolation. Depression and Addiction: How are They Related

Depression and Addiction: How Are They Related?

The old question of the chicken and the egg and which came first applies to this conundrum. Recent studies suggest that depression and addiction recurrently go hand in hand.

There is a strong correlation between depression and addiction and the problem is often approached in 2 different ways.

1. Some conventional psychiatric treatment procedures focus on treating depression as the root cause contributing to the drug or alcohol abuse problem,

2. Others consider depression as a symptom typically revealed after a person gets addicted into substance abuse.

As an addict travels along the ever descending road, whilst experiencing their high, they are in a euphoric state of mind in which they simply become numb to any sort of pain sensations, both emotional and physical. In most cases, addicts are in a worsening or poor state of health. Long-time drug and alcohol abusers also suffer from nutritional deficiencies. Therefore addiction is a progressive complication.

Due to prolonged addiction problems, addicts face variety of emotional, social and physiological problems such as job loss, broken relations, and discontinuation in studies, financial bankruptcy, legal problems and many others, which lead to recurrent episodes of depression. So in one way or other, depression and addiction is highly correlated with each other, especially considering the consequences of addiction.

Depression Often Leads To Relapse

Depression is a critical mental health condition that most frequently coexist with substance abuse disorders. If left untreated depression can hinder the addiction recovery process and may lead to relapse. On the other hand, an untreated addiction problem may also develop depression in the patient and consequently lead to relapse. Hence, this vicious cycle of depression and addiction needs to be recognized and requires simultaneous treatment.

The ideal treatment must focus on the deepest root of the addiction and its consequences incorporating a thorough understanding of the relation between addiction, recovery, depression and relapse. The treatment must be based on a clear understanding of the bio-psychosocial model of addiction and depression. The fundamental principle of treatment will only be established by treating depression coexisting with addiction. The recovery plans need to address the administration of signs and symptoms of both depression and addiction.

Few Essential Facts

In practice, chronic depression is an integral part of the hard reality that addicts face especially during their recovery. When they feel depressed seeing the destruction they have caused in their life. Prolonged usage of drugs alters the brain programming in such a manner that they inevitably search for an escape from the hard reality they face. This depression may again entice them to use drugs all over again. Some people describe the syndromes of depression and addiction as a married couple who can not exist without each other.

Although the addicts’ brain is programmed for quick relief and instant gratification, therefore one should not use anti-depressants even when he feels depressed during recovery. Anti-depressants offer nothing more than a temporary solution. It is better to seek family support at the time of depression or ask for help from volunteers who are continuously contributing in the field of addiction.

How will I know when I have recovered from depression?

I have just started treatment for depression. Looking, back I think I have had clinical depression for over 5 years. I don't remember a time of not being depressed. What are some signs of recovery?

Hello, bluesbrother74 (blues as in the music -not the mood- right?!!)

Recovering from depression isn't easy. One of the hardest things is that you just don't know what to expect.

It's not like healing from an injury. If you broke your arm, your doctor could give you specifics about your recovery. He or she could tell you -- at least roughly -- how many weeks you would need a cast and when you will be healed.

Unfortunately, depression isn't like that. Each person's recovery is different. Some recover in a few weeks or months. But for others, depression is a long-term illness. In about 20% to 30% of people who have an episode of depression, the symptoms don't entirely go away.

You may also have trouble figuring out how you feel. If you were depressed for a long time before you got treatment, you may not remember what feeling normal is like.

You need to know that you're not alone. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, about 19 million Americans are living with depression right now. And treatment works. The National Mental Health Association says that more than 80% of people who get treatment say it helps. If you stick with it, the odds are very good that you will feel better.

If you went through a severe depression, you may be relieved to just feel OK again. You might not be happy, but you're grateful that you can get out of bed and go to work.

But that isn't enough. It isn't enough to just feel less miserable. You deserve to feel well again, to feel as good as you once did. If your current treatment isn't allowing that, then you need to improve it. There are many different ways of treating depression -- therapy, medicines, and lifestyle changes -- that can help.

So don't settle for feeling just OK. You and your health care provider need to work together. With some effort and good treatment, you can feel truly well again.

Great Depression Affecting Mental Wellbeing Says Study

New research from mental health charity Mind has suggested that concerns about debt are having a significant negative effect on people's personal wellbeing.

Having launched its Mind Week on Saturday May 10th, the group has published the results of a study suggesting that 91 per cent of respondents felt that concerns about debt had worsened their mental health. A further 87 per cent noted that they had to rely on credit to cover the cost of basic purchases such as food and energy spending. As the credit crunch tightens its grip and the costs of living escalate, the charity asserts that 50 per cent have had to forego food and heating in an effort to reduce the constraints that today's economic climate has put on people's spending.

For those who hold concerns about the stability of their finances, debt consolidation could help alleviate fears by allowing monthly outgoings to be managed more effectively. By spreading the costs of payment over a longer time period, people may find that they have sufficient funds to cover the costs of everyday living expenses without turning to additional credit for assistance. Choosing such a loan may be of particular interest to the 83 per cent of people who said that they had been harassed by creditors during a period of illness.

The charity asserts that its In the Red: Debt and Mental Health study is the first to specifically examine the effect that financial concerns can have on mental wellbeing. In conducting the survey, Mind interviewed 1,800 respondents throughout the UK, 924 of whom said that their level of debt was felt to be problematic. The report also finds that those with pre-existing mental health problems are almost three times as likely to be in debt, often due to an inability to work arising either from social stigma or ill health.

Other statistics released by the organisation found that of those with problem debt, 71 per cent ran out of money every week or most weeks, while 92 per cent of people said that they had been unable to socialise due to constraints on their spending. Over 50 per cent of the country was also reported to be living on a weekly household income of less than 200 pounds - a figure which the government has defined as the poverty line.

Mind's chief executive Paul Farmer said: "UK personal debt stands at a staggering 1.4 trillion pounds but the real cost here is that on our mental health. Money worries aren't just keeping people awake at night; they are causing high levels of stress, depression and in some cases self harm and suicidal thoughts. At a time when people across the country are anxious about their finances, debt-depression is a real and growing concern. People living with mental health problems are particularly vulnerable to being trapped in a cycle of debt and poverty. With many unable to work due to ill health, Mind has found that people are becoming dependent on credit to pay for everyday essentials."

For those looking to alleviate the pressures that debt is putting on their lifestyles, a consolidation loan may provide both peace-of-mind and greater financial stability. A recent study by Scottish Widows has found that a number of older people are looking for assistance with their finances, with many parents turning to their children for loans to help cover living costs.

Depression Zen Quotes:

I love mankind - it's people I can't stand. By Charles M. Schulz Go fly a Kite Charlie Brown Find out about Depression Zen

Laziness Does NOT exist! You Are Simply Unplugged From Your Creative Sexuality

MODE Of Cosmic therapy: Dispelling the Myth of Laziness

Laziness does not exist! When people accuse you, or when you accuse others of being lazy, you, as well as they, are misinformed. If you are alive, being lazy is not an option. Have you ever heard someone say, “He/she is too lazy to breathe?” Do you know how much energy it takes just to breathe? It’s no easy process though we humans take it for granted as we do everything else in our lives. The fact is; our lungs contain almost 1,500 miles of airways (inconceivable) and over 300 million alveoli (unimaginable) [the air sacs in our lungs  are where the exchange of gases oxygen/c002 take place]
With every 60 seconds that pass, humans breathe in 13 pints of air [molecules; 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen, other small traces] To try to go into the extraneously complicated thermostatic process involved would take the better part of the night to explain. So, to keep the emphatic theme in tact, in the matter of simply breathing, being lazy is not possible!

The biggest waste of one’s precious time, effort and vital energy is to accuse someone (or yourself) of something so utterly absurd.  You can never get bored enough to entertain laziness. Idleness, maybe; laziness, never! When you perceive yourself or others as lazy, the point you are missing is the invariable truth: you have lost interest. No matter what the subject is that you are currently involved in, your attention has waned. When this occurs, things can go awry. No profitable account is served by extended disinterest. When you choose to be indolent by not tending to the soul’s needs of the hour, your life runs a muck.

The uninspired statue of your adulterated disinterested existence looms large and over-emphasized. Overemphasized to get your attention away from utter blah melancholy! In other words, you are numbed into a state of unconsciousness. You are as far removed from the state of peace and contentment, as you will ever be. There is a succinct reason why your body seeks to alleviate disinterest. You are a vibrantly charged sensual sexual artistic being who desires to be fully engaged in earth experiences that stimulate and titillate you! The same goes for education; you MUST be interested in the subject before you can gain any benefit from it. Some subjects simply don’t light a fire within. Don’t ever try to force your body to subjugate an interest which is not there.

If people perceive you or if you perceive yourself as lazy, investigate a little further. You have not yet ‘plugged into’ the artist within. The inspired artist is a ruthless savage of untenable spirit who will not be pacified with insignificant trinkets. Not easily impressed and less interested in impressing, the authentic artist must live as one invested in targeted laws unto himself. He will not compromise nor placate his fused sexuality! He lives as he chooses, when he chooses, how he chooses and with whom he chooses. He does not move when he does not want to. You call it lazy; he calls it self-massacre if he does what you want him to do simply to appease.

Unless you are actively pursuing specific passionate sensual sexual creative endeavors that you were born with to fulfill, your flagging energy will constantly be drained. You will ‘kinda’ drift along in a semi-conscious state among filth, disarray, unwashed clothes, dishes, floors, cars and yards. Overeating of fattening foods, indulging money on jewelry, clothes, shoes or an unmistakable obsession with flea market/yard sales will dominate your life as an attempt to fill this artistic void within. When you are acting upon disinterest at its highest level, you spend your time, effort, energy, and money inappropriately and irrespectively. Money represents energy. Energy needlessly dispensed creates havoc and apathy. Instead of spending money needlessly; callously, you could, should you be so inclined, invest in classes, courses, lessons or books that would spark any real artistic activity of genuine curiosity.

Also, you desire to further delve into your sexual habits. Disinterest is another clear indication you are not ‘plugged in to your one true love.” Sex generates, stimulates and motivates the true artistic impetus that would invoke an engrossed response. Fulfilling, rewarding, arousing, passionate, tantalizing, sizzling sexual activity produces the momentum to connect on deep profound levels. Magically, the art and act of caring about one’s home, car, yard, business and environment occurs naturally when one is actively engaged in a fully animated creative sexually motivated project. Find and pursue a work that you enjoy, exchange no hours in a day in work that you despise no matter the compensation.

Work is true joy. Work is salvation. To be fully engaged in an artistic sexual activity that brings satisfaction to the soul is the true meaning of life. Man has been honored with the gift of a pleasure filled sacred life to be cherished and cared for. You are not to squander, neglect or negate the duty of responsibility thereto attached. Ultimate pleasure demands salacious attention. No good and honorable thing can be attained by and through a refusal to invest 100%. Disinterest breeds self-scorn. You need not provide an existence of such low consciousness that denies the birthright of your pleasure filled inheritance.

Life is filled with many avenues of delightful artistic/musical/dramatic sexual expressions which encompass a vast array of incalculable choices to be seized. Least of all is the avenue of languor. Why consume a day in the forbearance of inactivity unless you are actively mentally engaged in pursuing a coveted secret passion? The body needs to be engaged in some sort of meaningful enthusiastic creativity. Even the trees are relentless in their creation year after year. Hands and feet cry out for movement or else they crystallize in stone.

Furthermore, when you force the responsibilities of your inactivity upon another, you add unnecessary weight to the scales of the out of balance existence. When disengaged, do not appear to be depressed. Be totally inactive but not moaning or bitchy. By fully engaging the mind in continuous self-study, contemplation and exploration, the heart is made strong and robust. The heart is accelerated and made healthy by movement.

Depression of the mind is not repression of the mind. The human spirit is elevated by and through the constant renewing of progressive movement. No genuine pleasure is derived by the act of ‘seeking to do as little as possible’. In fact, ‘doing nothing’ is the hardest feat in the world to accomplish! Exertion is governed through attitude. Sexuality is stimulated by altitudes! Move up and out! If your attitude is poor, DO MORE. Any attempt to get something for nothing will ultimately end in boring vanity and self-deprivation. Get out of the horizontal position into the vertical where the sun shines or the rain falls, where the air will restore your need to passionately spontaneously creatively express something. Whatever’s not going on with you, get it moving as you please but remember: gyrate in the circle that sacredly erotically matters to you!

Benefits of St Johns Wort - Natural Anti Depressant

Depression is a common problem today especially in fast moving cities. According to a report at least one out of every 20 Americans gets depressed each year. With new studies, the herb St. John's wort might be helpful in reducing stress and many other common health problems.

St John's wort also known as Hypericum perforatum, constitute hypericin, pseudohypericin, dianthrones, flavonoids, xanthones, tannins, and hyperforin. Hyperforin is believed to be the major constituent responsible for antidepressant activity. St John's wort is also known as Tipton's Weed, Klamath weed or Goat weed.

It helps in improving mood and ability to carry out daily lives. It also decreases some very commonly seen symptoms like sadness, hopelessness, worthlessness, exhaustion, and poor sleep.

Benefits of St Johns Wort

• It is very useful in healing wounds. It is used for wound cleansing as it does not destroy the healthy tissues and healthy cells but it cleans the dirt out of septic wounds. It also reduces the inflammation in septic sores, boils, cellulite and lymhangitis.

• It is also extensively used in the treatment of nerve and muscle pain, skin inflammation, skin wounds, burns, cuts, scrapes, and minor skin irritations.

• It is used as an anti-depressant for emotionally disturbed people. It relieves mild to moderate depression and anxiety. It also aid in treating depressive elements of chronic fatigue syndrome and seasonal affective disorder.

• It is used as an anti-inflammatory, sedative, analgesic and diuretic. It helps to stimulate the growth and repair of skin tissue. When applied to the skin, oily preparations of the herb have an antibacterial and anti-inflammatory action.

• It is also used in the treatment of anxiety, stomach upset, insomnia, fluid retention, and hemorrhoids.

• It is used in controlling viral infections, and also for reduction and control of tumor growths, both malignant and benign.

• It is useful for pulmonary complaints, bladder trouble, suppression of urine, dysentery and worms.

• It is also an excellent blood cleanser and blood purifier.

• It is very effective in chronic uterine problems and corrects irregular and painful menstruation. It is useful in relieving both physical and emotional symptoms of PMS (Premenstrual syndrome) including cramps, irritability, food cravings, and breast tenderness.

Do not take St John's wort if you are taking any prescribed antidepressant or during pregnancy. Consult with a qualified medical professional before taking St. John's wort supplements.

Paxil’s Usefulness on Getting Rid of Depression

Paroxetine hydrochloride or Paxil is a psychotropic drug. It is used to treat depression, social anxiety disorder, generalised anxiety disorder, panic disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder and post traumatic stress disorder. Depression is one such disease which is caused by chemical imbalance in the brain. If this imbalance goes on for a long duration it may result in major health concern at a later stage.

Paxil anti-depressant is available in the forms of tablets and suspension for oral administration. Each film coated Paxil tablet contains paroxetine hydrochloride and inactive ingredients such as dibasic calcium phosphate dehydrate, magnesium stearate, polyethylene glycols and sodium starch glycolate etc. In its suspension form the active agent remains the same while inactive reagents differ. It is an anti-depression drug manufactured and marketed by GlaxoSmithKline.

Patients with a history of suicidal thought and behaviour should not be given the dosage of this medication. Young adults of 18-24 years of age shows more suicidal tendency in comparison to other adults hence the dosage of Paxil should be given to such individuals with proper care. side effects associated with Paxil are somnolence, insomnia, agitation, tremor, anxiety, dizziness, constipation, nausea, diarrhoea, dry mouth, vomiting, flatulence, asthenia, abnormal ejaculation, sweating etc.

Paxil from GlaxoSmithKline is a prescription drug hence a prescription from a doctor is must to start its dosage. Though this drug gives suicidal tendency to a user of this drug, a doctor prescribes this drug considering its benefits on getting a patient out of depression. If one has problem in getting out of home to consult a doctor he or she can also apply for online prescription for Paxil through various online websites. One needs to provide personal information through such facilities and that way can avail the online prescription. But a patient is to give only the true information on his or her health on such websites as the correctness of the information would ultimately decide whether a patient should be taking Paxil or not.

After availing online prescription one should go for buying the drug. This anti-depressant can be bought from a local drug store or an online store. Buying Paxil from an online store means easy availability of the drug with various discounts. But buying it online also means susceptibility to malicious websites that sell spurious drugs or are unethical online stores duping patients.

In such scenario collecting information from various online reviews can be of help. Through these reviews one can see whether one should go for the drug or not. A patient also finds much information on the customer handling of the respective website through these online forums or reviews.

Buy Paxil with a prescription with a consultation with a doctor. It may be the ultimate answer in your hunt for getting the right anti-depression drug.

Wondering if my symptoms are depression or worse.?

I have posted a better description of my condition on the forums in my reference below but here it is in a nutshell:

I just can't get motivated much of the time. Basic tasks go undone. I find other things to do (or just do nothing).

This goes into all aspects of my life from basic things like cleaning up te apartment to major things that could actually be very beneficial to my financial situation.

There is also a physical symptom that worries me and may tie into the whole picture. I hear a constant hissing sound. Sometimes it is almost imperceptable and at other times it is quite loud. Kind of like tinnitus (spelling?) but not a ringing just a hiss.

Any ideas, or has anyone else had this type of experience?

Reference: http://howto.netmorale.com/viewtopic.php?t=28

It could be depression. I just started getting treatment for depresseion about a month ago. I noticed that I wasn't able to get motivated to do those same basic things, avoiding things, forgetting things, lack of sleep or sleeping all day...I haven't had the hissing sound, which I'm sure is pretty annoying sometimes. Go to your doctor and talk to them about how you are feeling. They may prescribe drugs at that time or they may refer you to a psychiatrist before or just start you out on something until you can get into to see one. I had a hard time telling anyone about it, because I felt like a crazy person and even my friends might laugh at me. Since I talked to my doctor on started some meds, I feel a lot better and I am motivated from the moment I wake up. Good luck!

Discover 3 Successful Depression Treating Strategies

Don't ask your doctor as he may not know much about depression treating strategies. The majority of primary care providers will prescribe anti-depressant medications as the first and only option. While anti-depressant medications are a perfectly valid and sometimes helpful method of treating depression, I would not exactly call them successful as a study three years ago showed that only about 50% of patients could actually get rid of their symptoms with this type of medication. That is not a high success rate.

Before we list the three successful depression treating strategies, we need to understand the complexity of the problem. Most anti depressant medications work by increasing levels of serotonin which is an important brain chemical in determining our mood but it also plays a very important role in our appetite. But there are other causes and mechanisms at work which complicate the picture, such as a deficit in nutrition, a problem with our immune system, a high level of stress hormones. There can also be genetic and environmental factors at work too, not forgetting the psychological and social factors such as exercise, diet and social contacts.

The first depression treating strategy is to look at the lifestyle of the depressed patient. There is now a ton of evidence to show that persons with a range of social contacts are less likely to fall into depression. Regular exercise has been shown over and over again to be beneficial because it produces endorphins which are also known as the 'happy chemicals'. One study even shows that a sweat breaking activity can be as effective as any anti-depressant if done regularly.

Talk yourself through depression. That is the second of the successful ways of treating depression that I can recommend. Talking could involve counselling and or psychotherapy. But, on a more modest scale, it could involve getting involved in a support group or joining the online forums where you can meet people and talk the whole experience through. It is also important in making social contacts, even if they are only online. The great advantage is that by talking about depression and learning coping skills, we are much less likely to have a relapse which is a big problem for many patients on depression medicines.

The third depression treating strategy is to look at alternatives to lift our mood. While relaxation, meditation, yoga and special breathing exercises will all help, we will need something else to boost our mood and to help us restore some of the balance in our brains which seems to be a bit skewed. One of the best treatments I know is a homeopathic or a herbal one. There are now studies to show that some herbs (St. John's Wort, passion flower and gingko biloba) have much fewer side effects and will be just as effective in restoring serenity to a troubled mind.

can u ever get better from fibromyalgia or improve a great deal?

i am having a major panic attack right now. Have had this for 9 years and currently in severe depression at how i have no life AT ALL and people on forums all saying you have this for life and end up disabled. I cant deal with the thought of that as my future and doesnt really help with the depression

I dont know what to do but i cant live knowing thats my future - has anyone had this/improved/ANYTHING OF SOME HOPE??
As for having it only some months i have had it 9 years!

And though you say it wont lead to disability on the daily strength forum i am constantly speaking to fibromyalgia sufferers who are disabled and unable to work as a result. I am so scared i am only 26

The metformin approac- im actually on this for PCOS and havent noticed it helping but thanks for the suggestion and i used to be on amitriptyline but that just made me feel even more exhausted

I have improved alot since my diagnosis. There are so many things we can do to improve our health and lives. Dont listen to all those people who tell you that you will be disabled. You can have a very good life despite this diagnosis.

These are the things I have found that helped me to improve my life:
Dietary changes:
Eat a diet as close to natural as possible. That means you eat lots of fresh fruits and veggies, whole grains, lean meats and low fat dairy .Avoid foods with added sugar, artifical sweetners (especially those in the aspartame -nutrasweet family ) . Avoid caffiene in all forms. Give up drinking carbonated beverages. Drink water, its good for your body.
Basically its a very healthy way of eating. Once you get all the over processed foods out of your life the better off you will be.

You should also try taking vitamins and supplements . People who have fibromyalgia tend to have probelms with processing nutrients . Take a multiple vitamin, vitamin c for your immune system, take a magnesium/calcium/zinc blend. The magnesium is for muscle cramps , it needs the calcium to process correctly and zinc is for the immune system.

Your doctor will prescribe a sleep medication , and something for pain. What you should know is pain meds will not get rid of all your pain, they simply will take the edge off your pain . Many of the other things I have mentioned will help reduce your pain down to a level you can live with.

I stumbled across DRibose, and it has made my life so much better. It has allowed me to cut my pain medication back by half. Read up on it, and dont be afraid to try it. I have information about it on my yahoo 360 blog.

I have found that working in warm water has helped my pain .The water is the only place I dont hurt all the time. Walking is good too. Just start out slowly, building slowly.

Now this final thing is something you need to hear. Please listen to me. You are young and I want you to have the benefit of what I wish I had known at your age. Once you really understand this one thing your life will change for the better:

You need to change the way you think. Stop dwelling on the negative, keep your life and thoughts positive. You see fibromyalgia is a very complicated thing. It all starts in our brains. Our brains control so much and we dont realize how much our thoughts can be involved in how our bodies feel. Im not sayings its psycological, Im saying its a chain of chemical reactions that originates in the brain. When we have negative thoughts , our brains send out a wave of chemicals that prepares our bodies for the "fight or flight" cycle. If you allow your thoughts to be mired in negative thoughts( You know the ones...about being disabled, about all the bad things in life) you are causing your own pain. I know its easy to get stuck in a cycle of negative thoughts, especially if you are surrounded by people who are stuck in their own negative thoughts. BUT you cant afford to live your life that way. Its just causing you more pain. Its those chemicals that are being secreted in your brian that are causing you to have more pain. You CAN break this cycle.
When you catch yourself having those negative thoughts, deliberately stop yourself and substitue GOOD thoughts. Things that make you happy. Eventually you will change the way you think and your health and life WILL improve.

I know that sounds deceptively simple , but it really does work. Please stop surrounding yourself with negative thoughts , you really can be better. You just have to decide you want better health and a better life. All these things will take time to do, choose one and work at it. It took me several years to learn all these things. I hope you will find things from my post to help you.

One final thing. This next year there will be a new medication coming out on the market that will be a huge boom for those of us with fibromyalgia. It treats both depression and insomnia, without all those sexual side effects and the morning after fatigue we are now dealing with from our meds. I suspect the medictaion will change all of our lives. It will be called Agomelatine.

Depression Family Help Quotes:

Don't chain your worries to your body. The burden soon becomes heavy and your health will give too much of itself to pick up the extra load. By Astrid Alauda Dyspeptic Enlightenment Find out about Depression Family Help

Depression Medication, Help for Hopelessness and Unhappiness

Many people who experience depression take medication to help them feel better and overcome their depression. Medication can be very helpful to such individuals, helping them to rid themselves of the feelings of hopelessness and unhappiness. Studies have found, furthermore, that medication is even more effective when partnered with a supportive environment and good therapy. The two together can help restore feelings of well-being, and help overcome depression.

There are many ways to go about getting medication for depression. However, it usually requires a trip to a doctor and a referral to a psychiatrist or psychologist. Only someone who is specifically trained to diagnose mental conditions states should prescribe depression medication. Periodic visits to someone who can listen can also be helpful in dispelling depression. This is also where having a good support system comes in. Friends and family can be very helpful, if they are supportive. Such support is more effective than medication alone.

Unfortunately, there is another form of medication for depression. By using alcohol and illegal drugs, many people "self medicate" themselves for depression. Many of them do not even realize that they are depressed. All they know is that they feel bad, and the only way to feel better is to get drunk or engage in illicit activities. Self medication is quite common because many people just assume that life is bad, and the weekends were made for getting smashed or high. They feel good while on the alcohol or drugs, so they think that nothing is wrong, other than life in general.

Additionally, self medication allows depressed people to relieve their depressed feelings without the stigma of visiting a "head shrink." For many people, going to someone who is supposed to treat mental conditions would be admitting that there is something wrong with the mind. That is a hard thing to overcome, especially since few people want to advertise that they have mental problems. So it is understandable that they would prefer to just feel better in their own way.

The problem with self medication, though, is that it does nothing to break the cycle of depression. In fact, it only adds to the depression. Once the effects of the alcohol or drugs wear off, the person often "crashes," feeling worse than before. The person feels worse, and the only way to feel better is to get drunk or high again. And the cycle perpetuates itself. Sometimes it becomes bad enough that the behavior is not just a weekend occurrence, but expands to disrupt work and family life during the week.

Medication, when administered by a professional, can be a helpful tool in overcoming depression. Self medication through alcohol and illegal drugs, however, is destructive and rarely does it help someone overcome depression. And it adds the problems associated with addiction on top of the problems of depression. Feelings of depression should be explored by people qualified to help you overcome your depression. This way, proper help and appropriate medication can be found to aid you as you move out of depression.

what can my family do? we do need to forgive him but he needs help?

he has done allot of things wrong and the most recent one did tear up his family he is a 60 year old man who battles with alcohol, psychologically thoughts and depression. my family and myself are christians but we just don't know what to do. he is at the bottom and the only way out is a miracle by God.

As a Christian counselor for 12 years, I would need more information before making any direct suggestions.

However, it would sound like you already know that God will be the only real answer. Pray for this person. If they want help, do what you can to get them some good Biblical based help. If this person does not want help, there is little you can do but remove your family from any influence this person may have over you.

Without more information, any further advice would not be wise. God bless and I pray things work out for you and to Jesus' glory.

Major Depression Facts Quotes:

Fear makes strangers of people who would be friends. By Shirley Maclaine Find out about Major Depression Facts

Depression - Herbal Tonics for Depression

The word depressed is a common everyday word. People might say "I'm depressed" when in fact they mean "I'm fed up because I've had a row, or failed an exam, or lost my job" etc. These ups and downs of life are common and normal. Most people recover quite quickly.

With true depression, you have a low mood and other symptoms each day for at least two weeks. Symptoms can also become severe enough to interfere with day-to-day activities.

People with a depressive illness cannot merely "pull themselves together" and get better. Without treatment, symptoms can last for weeks, months, or years. Appropriate treatment, however, can help most people who suffer from depression.

Types of Depression

Depressive disorders come in different forms. Three of the most common are Major Depression, Dysthymia, and Bipolar Disorder. Even within these types of depression there are variations in the number of symptoms, their severity, and persistence.

Major depression is manifested by a combination of symptoms (see symptom list below) that interfere with the ability to work, study, sleep, eat, and enjoy once pleasurable activities. Some people have a single episode of depression, but many have episodes that recur.

Dysthymia is a less severe type of depression that lasts a long time but involves less severe symptoms. If you suffer from dysthymia you probalby lead a normal life, but you may not be functioning well or feeling good. People with dysthymia may also experience major depressive episodes at some time in their lives.

Bipolar Disorder (also called manic-depression) is another type of depressive disorder. Bipolar disorder is thought to be less common than other depressive disorders. If you have bipolar disorder you are troubled by cycling mood swings - usually severe highs (mania) and lows (depression). The mood swings are sometimes dramatic and rapid, but usually are more gradual. When in the depressed stage, a person can have any or all of the symptoms of a depressive disorder.

Herbal Tonics

A combination of herbs is usually more effective and preferred for treatment of depression. The tonics are prepared with special consideration to neutralizing the side effects caused by one and with consideration to the specific situation of the individual who is taking it. Since the herbs may interact with prescription medicines, make sure you check with your doctor before starting on any herb if you are currently taking any prescription medications.

Ingredients: Vitex, black cohosh, wild yam root, licorice, sarsaparilla, false unicorn root, red raspberry leaf, dong quai, motherwort, royal jelly, squaw vine, maca, suma, oatstraw, fo-ti, cooked rehmannia, siberian ginseng, damiana, ligusticum wallichi, muirapuama, fructus lycii.

Kava Blend: Mix equal parts of kava, lemon balm, valerian root and St. John's wort. Pour 1 cup of boiling water over 1 tsp. of herb mix. Drink 1 cup three times daily, one hour after meals.

Chinese Herbs: Bupleurum and dong quai make up a Chinese herbal formula that helps reduce anxiety, irritability, and depression. Take 1,000 milligrams of a bupleurum and dong quai combination formula two or three times daily for two weeks out of every month (if you are a woman, take it for the two weeks prior to the anticipated onset of your menstrual period).

Gentian Root Tea: Steep 1/2 ounce each of finely chopped poplar bark and gentian root in two pints of water for fifteen minutes. Boil and add 1/2ounce each of agrimony and centaury. Simmer for ten minutes, cool, and strain. You can add honey for sweetener if you desire. Take three or four tablespoons before meals.

How do you get rid of acne?

I have had a bad acne out break for a couple of years. Was recently diagnosed with pcos, They said birth control was the best way to rid my self of the acne. But due to the fact I hit major depression when taking it, I won't take it. I need to know if there is some other way to do it. I have tried every onver the counter method I could find. I am ordering proactive right now but want to know if there are some at home ways you have that I could try. Thank you.
Yeah I googled home remedies and looked it up, But didn't really find anything I thought would help me that I haven't tried. Especially with the pcos. Figured THEY (the ones with condition) would have some good ways to help.

ProActiv never worked for me. I tried it for about 5 or 6 months and all it seemed to do was dry my skin out badly. Of course everyone has different results. I just started using this stuff called Clear Pores back in October. My skins not super clear but I dont break out as bad as I used to and it usually takes a little while for things to start kicking in. If ProActiv donest work, I suggest Clear Pores. They even offer a 6 month guarantee. It's kinda expensive, but I figure I've already spent a lot on other things by other companies, might as well.

Best of luck!

Depression Dogs Death Quotes:

It took me a long time not to judge myself through someone else's eyes. By Sally Field Find out about Depression Dogs Death

Acute Renal Kidney Failure in Dogs

Acute renal failure or ARF is characterized by a rapid onset of renal insufficiency/failure, reduction in glomerular filtration rate and renal plasma flow, and the clinical and biochemical aftermath of the excretory failure. This is a serious form of kidney disease where the dog's kidney quit working all of a sudden and that can leads to death. The kidneys have an abrupt decrease in the GFR due to a toxin or loss of adequate blood supply (called ischemia). The excretory failure is identified by rapid (hours to days) increases in BUN, serum creatinine and phosphate, and variable hyperkalemia and metabolic acidosis. Acute renal failure is a tenuously reversible state, which must be diagnosed quickly and aggressively treated. Failure to initiate therapy may result in irreversible parenchymal damage or death. Acute renal failure is frequently a complication of other surgical or medical diseases and must be recognized within the clinical features of these associated disorders.

Common clinical signs of kidney failures in dogs are loss of appetite, depression, vomiting, diarrhea, very bad breath, pale gums and ulcers in the mouth. While the consistent signs of severe ARF include the sudden onset and rapid development of listlessness, depression, anorexia, vomiting, and diarrhea. Oliguria and less frequently anuria were at one time considered signatures of ARF and discriminators for chronic renal failure. Some causes of ARF are due to low blood pressure or a decrease in blood volume, lack of blood supply to the kidneys, a urninary blockage or dogs in-take of some poisonous plants or toxins, most notably the antifreeze ( 95% ethylene glycol) which are catastrophic to the kidneys. Antifreeze is very sweet tasting and is readily licked by both dogs and cats if it spills on the ground when car antifreeze is changed. Ethylene glycol is converted in the liver and kidney to a toxic metabolite that changes the pH of the bloodstream and destroys the kidneys by depositing calcium oxalate crystals in the renal tubules. It is a medical emergency and requires specific and immediate measures if the kidneys are to be saved. Unfortunately, unless a pet owner actually observes their pet licking antifreeze, they don't bring their pet in for care until it is very ill.

Treatment of renal kidney disease is aimed at preventing or slowing further kidney damage. One phase to treat kidney is to "restart" it. The large quantities of intravenous fluids are given to "flush out" the kidneys. This flushing process, called diuresis, helps to stimulate the kidney cells to function again. If enough functional kidney cells remain, they may be able to adequately meet the body's needs for waste removal. Fluid therapy includes replacement of various electrolytes, especially potassium. Other important aspects of initial treatment include proper nutrition and drugs to control vomiting and diarrhea. The possible outcome of these treatment, the kidneys will resume functioning and continue to function for a few weeks to a few years. Also the kidneys will resume functioning during treatment but fail again as soon as treatment stops or maybe the kidney will not return.  Another phase of treatment is to keep the kidneys functioning as soon as possible. First method, the dog will undergo a speical diet which the food contains low in protein, low in phosphorus, and not acidified. Another method is a phosphate binder where phosphorous is removed from the body by filtering through the kidneys and once the filtration process is impaired, phosphorous begins to accumulate in the blood. Another process is giving a drug to regulate the parathyroid gland and calcium levels. Calcium and phosphorus must remain at about a 2:1 ratio in the blood. The increase in blood phosphorus level stimulates the parathyroid gland to increase the blood calcium level by removing it from bones. Once the dog is stabilized, fluids can be given under the skin (subcutaneously). This serves to continually "restart" the kidneys as their function begins to fail again. This is done once daily to once weekly, depending on the degree of kidney failure.

Another option is kidney transplants and dialysis and becoming more accessible for pets today, but due to the high costs, aren’t practical for most pet owners. Many cases that the dogs with renal failure are successfully managed and live long happy lives. Common prevention of such dog diseases it to have a regular laboratory testing preformed with the yearly vet visit can help to detect early stages of renal failure before they appear, and starting early treatment can help to slow or halt loss of kidney function to improve the pet's quality of life.

Thats the thing neither of us have health problems and i know im not going blind.

Everyone has the blues in life. In the old days people became alcoholics looking for a solution to their pain. These days we have medication to keep functional through the bad times.

Strattera (atomoxetine HCI) in Europe its called Reboxetine. It works for the severest depressions (the worst cases were cured were SSRI's had failed).

It is also approved for ADD use in America, should help you get stuff done.

it will also not act like a SSRI and make you eat like a pig and gain 15-20 pounds, that is because Strattera works on the NRI pathways and not SSRI pathways.

They need to worry and betray time with urgencies false and otherwise purely anxious and whiny their souls really won't be at peace unless they can latch on to an established and proven worry and having once found it they assume facial expressions to fit and go with it which is you see unhappiness and all the time it all flies by them and they know it and that too worries them no end. Four Tips for Mind De-stressing

The Mind is a wonderful tool for observation, conceptualization, processing information and in short - thinking. However, when the tool becomes the Master, stress is inevitable.

Like a computer, your Mind holds lots of data. It also has a program to organize that data. Each mind programs the input it receives through unique perceptions and interpretations developed in early childhood. This childhood template is your mind's operating system until you choose to change it.

De-stressing involves becoming aware of and updating these childhood beliefs.

Two core sets of beliefs - Who you think you are (self-concept) and Who you think you 'should' be (self-ideal) evolve from what we hear, see and experience as children. You do not knowingly choose these self-images, which become the foundation for Self-Esteem, your value for yourself and Self-Determination, your percieved power to make free choices. Failing to achieve this unrealistic self-ideal is inevitable and believing you have limited power to choose freely, creates DISTRESS.

Fight and Flight are our primitive responses to stress.

Is your tendency to run, hide, and internalize stress in isolation, passivity or depression; or, to lash out, attack and externalize stress in aggression, domination, or anxiety? Either way, the core issues and solutions are the same.

The tips that follow are simple, logical and doable. Implementation may be challenging though. There are suggested resources, to support you in using these tips at the end of this article.

Tip # 1 ~ Sort

The key to mental de-stressing is to recognize the areas of life in which you do or do not have control. Grab a piece of paper and pencil to take some notes. Take note of the thoughts that arise as I explain this simple sorting technique. These notes will be important when we get to Tip # 3. You have NO control of anything outside yourself. You have TOTAL control of everything inside yourself. This does not seem earth shattering until you look at daily reactions.

If you are like most people, you blame everything outside of you for your stress, and direct most of your precious time and energy into fruitless efforts to control the uncontrollable. A short list of uncontrollables includes: * Time - Not enough, what happened in the past, worry about the future. * Nature - illness, aging, death, weather. * Other People - what they think, feel, say, do.

You reduce your stress when you put your time and energy into the one area where it will pay off, where you have total control and power to direct your life - in YOU - In knowing how you think and feel, and making choices about what is important to you.

Why it works ~

Sorting what you can and cannot control helps you see clearly where to place your attention. Although the conditioned mind (ego) does not accept change easily, it does like structure. When you provide a new way to sort thinking that makes logical sense, the mind is more willing to consider it.

Tip # 2 ~ Focus

Focus your attention on the power to make choices. You can only make choices in the present moment. The past is a memory and the future has not arrived.

You can make informed choices by learning from the past. Today's choices influence the future. Choosing consciously what you do in this moment is the most powerful thing you can do.

There is a finite amount of time in a day. You control what you choose to do with it. Prioritizing what is most important to you is essential. Then, it is easier to see what must either be delegated or dropped from the 'to do' list.

Life becomes much simpler, less stressful and more productive when you are realistic about what you can do and take responsibility for acting on that priority in the present moment. Focus on being aware of your choices today and notice how outcomes change.

Why it works ~

You are the only person who has control of your choices. Choosing not to take action is also a choice. In consciously choosing, you have the power to influence the direction and satisfaction of your future. You also influence - not control - everyone around you by the choices you make. Making a difference in the world begins within you taking charge of your part of the whole. A change in any part of the whole, changes the whole.

Tip # 3 ~ Observe

What reactions is your mind having to this information? Fight - resistance, looking for flaws in the logic. Or, flight - distraction, not wanting to continue reading. The mind resists changing core beliefs. Observe its resistance. This function of the conditioned mind, often referred to as the inner critic or bully, is a powerful force against making changes in your life.

In childhood, your mind formed ideas about how to be safe in the world. The conditioned mind (ego) is all about safety and survival. It gets scared when you decide not to play your life by the old "safe" rules. Like a parent, it is still telling you what you 'should' or 'should not' do, and judging your performance, often harshly.

Although the survival functions of the brain are important, you are no longer a vulnerable infant or child. Fight and flight are limited strategies for managing adult life and relationships. Observe these mental directives. What are the words your mind uses to keep you tied to old rules? What is the tone of voice? Whose voice does it sound like? Mom? Dad? Someone else? Keep a journal of your observations. Looking over your journal can give you clues to the pattern, or specific 'rule' or 'belief' that still informs your choices today. One of mine was, "If you say what you really think; people won't like you". Then, my mind would ruminate over things I had said, constantly judging the potential impact. This rule was time wasting, relationship stifling, and professionally defeating - all with the good intention to keep me "safe" from criticism.

Why it works ~

You are not your thoughts. Your mind is designed to support your decision-making, not control it. While the original unconscious program was useful in keeping you safe as a child, you must consciously update that program so it can serve you in being a powerful, response-able adult. Observing how the mind works, puts you back in the driver's seat of your life.

Tip # 4 ~ Stop, Drop & Replace

Take decisive action to Stop the Inner Critic.

Whenever you hear that inner voice spouting its shoulds, shouldn'ts, or judgments (negative or positive) - take action to stop the thought. Each inner voice is unique. If yours is aggressive, or hostile, you will want to stop it with some force. You can think or say aloud "Stop!" or use more colorful language. My inner critic is manipulative, with a tone of helpfulness. My approach is, "Thank you for sharing." then promptly let it go.

Drop the Image of who you think you 'should' be. This is a composite made up by various people, none of whom lives your unique life. A helpful strategy when you hear the words 'should' or 'should not' is to ask the question: "Who made that up?" Realize that the laws of nature are few. A human being made everything else up. Some beliefs are useful for living comfortably in society others do not. Choose the ones you want to keep and let the rest go.

Replace the old rules with supportive ones. From my earlier example, "If you say what you really think; people won't like you," I counter with, "By speaking my truth, others can connect with me and connect with their truth."

Why it works~

Conditioning and images are not the truth about who you are or 'should' be. They are unconscious programs running your precious life as if you were still a child. The mind, like a computer, uses an operating system. Your life is continuously changing. How will your computer serve you if you never update the operating system to keep up with changing technology, or, delete outdated files to clear space for new information? The mind requires continuous monitoring and updating in order to serve you in consciously choosing the life you want in this moment.

These four strategies for mental de-stressing will change your perspective, and give you control over your choices. Sort what you can control (inside you) from what you cannot control (outside of you), focus on what you can control, observe your mind's discomfort with staying present in the moment, stop - drop - and replace the negative self criticism and judgement based in past conditioning.

Final note: Getting outside supportive coaching or counseling to carry out these steps may be helpful and well worth the time and cost for a stress free life!
