Postpartum Depression Remedies Quotes:

How much pain they have cost us the evils which have never happened. By Thomas Jefferson Find out about Postpartum Depression Remedies

How a Depressed Woman Can Change Her Life and Regain Control

According to statistics, rates of depression are twice as high for depressed women as they are for men. In addition, certain types of depression, like premenstrual syndrome or PMS, premenstrual dysphoric disorder or PMDD, postpartum depression or baby blues, and perimenopausal depression, are specific to women. In addition, women are more vulnerable to seasonal affective disorder. A woman is also likely to manifest slightly different symptoms than her male counterpart.

A depressed woman also goes through different experiences at different stages of her life. Pre-adolescent girls and boys are equally prone to experience depression. However, by their teens, girls become much more likely to go into depression than boys. The biological and hormonal upheaval of puberty contributes to this increase in depression rates, as do socially implanted self esteem and gender roles issues.

Social stereotypes cause them to doubt their own problem-solving abilities, reinforce low self esteem, and insecurity problems. Due to social and familial imbalances, teenage girls are statistically more likely to suffer as a result of childhood sexual abuse, poverty, poor education, and so on, which adds to their higher rates for depressive disorder.

As young women, depressed women might suffer from premenstrual dysphoric disorder or PMDD. This is a severe form of the more common PMS which about 75 percent of childbearing age women have in some measure. As many as 10 percent of women, in the same age segment, may suffer from PMDD, which has symptoms like sadness, nervousness, anxiety, irritability, strong cravings for certain foods, attention and concentration problems, fatigue, breast tenderness, headaches, swelling, bloating, or joint pain. If these symptoms manifest 10 to 14 days before the period and are alleviated only when the period actually starts, PMDD is a possible diagnosis.

After childbirth too, a woman may have sharp mood swings, going from elation to tears in an instant. A slight feeling of loss of control and depression, especially at the gargantuan task they face, is normal. They may have a hard time concentrating, lose appetite and sleep beginning from a couple of days after delivery. The syndrome may last several days, in the normal course of things. However, if a depressed woman suffers baby blues for more than 10 or 12 days after childbirth, it becomes something called postpartum depression.

There is more chance of a depressed woman in the older age groups, than older men. However, the good news is that depression rates in women generally decline post menopause. Like men, older depressed women tend to have triggers such as death of a spouse or loved one, retirement, or chronic illness. Most older women tend to regain emotional balance, over time, although some don’t. Older depressed women might go undiagnosed, since adult women are less likely to discuss sadness or grief. Also, in a large number of cases, depression among older women gets dismissed as age related angst, or simply a desire to irritate family members.

Anorexia and bulimia are two other depression related problems that affect mostly women. These eating disorders begin in teenage years, and can plague a woman all her life.

A depressed woman suffers low self esteem, a belief that she is not worthy of love, and suicidal tendencies along with all the other standard symptoms of depressive disorder. So what is she to do about it? Well, the first step is to realize that there is a problem, and the second is to seek help. Although many women take anti-depressants, all drugs have side effects that can even make your symptoms worse.

This is why many people, particularly women who want to regain their health, vitality and positive outlook on life are turning to natural remedies. Natural supplements work by increasing the production of feel-good neurotransmitters which can lift a depressed woman out of her funk and help her start feeling better about her life.

From homeopathy to antidepressants, from therapy to holistic natural remedies, there are many treatment options available. There should not be any doubt in your mind that you deserve to change your life and regain control over it.

How effective are naturopathic physicians?

I'm dealing with postpartum depression so I think it has a lot to do with hormones. I'm on meds they are helping but not 100%. I saw a naturopath and she said she had a remedy but it was expensive! I don't mind the money if it really works but just wanted to know if naturopathic physicians are really as effective

It depends on the physician, just like any profession there are good and bad ones. St. Johns Wort is the most common anti-depressant used in natural medicine and has been Proven to be as effective for mild to moderate depression. There is even a patented version of this on the market and you cannot get a patent unless it has been thoroughly tested and approved.

Seasonal Depression Remedies Quotes:

Nobody can make you feel inferior without your consent. By Eleanor Roosevelt Find out about Seasonal Depression Remedies

SAD in the coldest months of the year. Treating Depression Naturally!

SAD in the coldest months of the year

For many North Americans, winter's shorter days bring with them a different kind of darkness: seasonal affective disorder, or SAD, which is a type of depression that strikes mostly during the colder months of the year.

While the disorder affects many types of people, medical experts say it can be treated and the seriousness of the illness reduced by watching for symptoms and taking early action. Those affected by SAD begin to see symptoms in late fall to early winter, said Dr. Peter Swanljung at Friends Hospital, a private psychiatric hospital, in Philadelphia. "To distinguish someone from seasonal affective disorder and a major depressive disorder (like clinical depression), it usually depends on timing," he said.

The causes of SAD are not fully known, but there appears to be a relationship between depression and sunlight, Swanljung said. Northerners are more susceptible to the disorder, he said, because of the darker and shorter days - a person living in Florida is less likely to suffer from SAD than one in Maine, for example.

There are a few theories about why this connection exists, Swanljung explained. One is that the change in light exposure during the winter months effects levels of serotonin, which affects energy and mood, in the brain. Another is that SAD is related to levels of melatonin, a naturally-occurring hormone involved in regulating our sleep cycles. And a third, he said, is that the changes in the amount of daylight somehow affect our circadian rhythm, our body's 24-hour clock.

A recent study from researchers at the Center for Addiction and Mental Health in Toronto discovered that there are greater levels of serotonin transporters in the brain in the winter than in the summer, the first time such a difference has been found. When there was less light, more serotonin transporters were found. Serotonin transporters remove serotonin, so the finding suggests that there is more serotonin removal in the brain in the winter.

"This offers an explanation for why some healthy people experience low mood and energy in the winter, and why there is a regular reoccurrence of depressive episodes in fall and winter in some vulnerable individuals," Dr. Jeffrey Meyer, a researcher on the study, said in a statement. "The next steps will be to understand what causes this change and how to interfere with it."

Winter is also a stressful time of year for many North Americans, because of the holidays and the increased spending, travel time and busy social schedules that often go along with them. But the symptoms of SAD go beyond simple winter blues or holiday stress, Swanljung said. They are similar to those of clinical depression and include tiredness, increased appetite and weight gain, loss of interest in usual activities and low energy. Symptoms like those shouldn't be written off, he said, and if they include self-harm and suicidal feelings or attempts, they should be brought to the attention of a health professional as soon as possible.

SAD may not be as profound as other forms of depression, experts say, but it still warrants attention and treatment. "People need to understand that seasonal affective disorder is a real condition," Robin Monson-Dupuis of Aurora Behavioral Health in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, said in an email response. People in northern climates, where winters are particularly harsh, may think that negative feelings during that time of year are just a consequence of their location, Monson-Dupuis said, but if they affect your day-to-day functioning then they require investigation.

Fortunately, there are treatment options available for SAD. Light therapy, where patients sit in front of a very bright lamp or light box, is an option that many people have found helpful, Swanljung said. Though a prescription is not required to buy the equipment, it's worthwhile to talk to your health professional about it, he advised. Talk therapy can also be beneficial, as can simply keeping up with your contacts and avoiding social isolation. Exercise has been shown to help relieve depression, he said. Medication may be prescribed for more serious cases.

Paying attention to your mood and watching for patterns is a way to prevent seasonal depression from negatively affecting your life, Swanljung said. If it has been a problem for you in the past, beginning light therapy or medication ahead of time can help stave it off or reduce its severity.

S.A.D in the Summer?

(Reverse) Seasonal Affective Disorder. The sun makes me tired, sensitive to light, induces headaches, and all and all makes me want to be in a cooler, shadier place. I used to have very bad skin, (still do to an extent), and have always been prone to easy sunburns/face very red. Basically my depression just seems to get much worse when the sun comes out, which is a shame. I live in Southern California, so, any natural remedies or ideas for this?

I have a similar problem, but not SAD. When the sun is affecting my mental state and my physical health negatively, I just let myself stay inside most of the time. I try opening the windows here and there at least. Sometimes I'm able to go on an outing with family or friends, where they are distracting me and we're doing activities and such that make me feel better. Having people you care about around always helps someone get through these difficult situations.

Best of luck.

Panic Attack Herbs Quotes:

I have learned to live each day as it comes and not to borrow trouble by dreading tomorrow. It is the dark menace of the future that makes cowards of us. By Dorothy Day Find out about Panic Attack Herbs

Tips for Panic Attacks – 4 Tips and 3 Natural Remedies for Panic Attacks

Anxiety and panic attacks can be quite serious, and you should always talk with a doctor about them. Still, some tips exist for panic attacks and you can also use herbs to act as a natural remedy for anxiety.

Panic attacks come from anxiety, which can have a lot of causes. The patient can have a wide variety of symptoms, including hot flushes, mild discomfort or perspiration and it can even go as far as a sense of doom and hopelessness.

Doctors generally describe anxiety as a state of mind that is associated with assessments of the difficulties that can bring symptoms like palpitations, sweating, insomnia, trembling, general irritability and loss of weight.

Panic and anxiety attacks can be worse if the patient also has depression. Since the problems seem worse, it’s harder to cope with them and the number of panic attacks can increase. And many times the symptoms of anxiety can hide the depression.

Tips For Panic Attacks.

1. Breathing

Hold in a breath for 7 seconds, breathe normally for a few seconds and do it again a few times. Some find it comforting to breathe into cupped hands or a paper bag, just like you do with hyperventilation.

2. Think of something else instead and try to calm yourself. Count back from 100 if it helps you or do anything else that can occupy your thoughts. Don’t fight the attack because that doesn’t help.

3. If you can, listen to music. Easier to do at home, you can still do it on the road by using an MP3 player. It can also distract you and help you deal with attacks.

4. Talk to someone. Talking with someone can help you feel less helpless and alone.

Herbs used as a natural anxiety remedy.

1. Passion Flower.

This is an anti-spasmodic and calming herb. It relaxes the nervous system and it has an effect that is anti-anxiety. It can also help if you suffer from insomnia, but take it only if a doctor says so.

2. Chamomile

Not quite as strong as the previous herb, Chamomile relaxes the tense muscle, calms nervous digestion and tones the nervous system. It can be used as a tonic if needed.

3. Skullcap

It can be used as a calming and soothing herb and it can be used to treat anxiety.

These three can be used as natural anxiety remedies and they aren’t the only ones.

Anxiety Tea Cure Quotes:

My life has been full of terrible misfortunes most of which never happened. By Michel de Montaigne Find out about Anxiety Tea Cure

Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) Treatment & Cure

Generalized anxiety disorder or GAD is characterized by excessive, exaggerated anxiety and worry about everyday life events. People with symptoms of generalized anxiety disorder tend to always expect disaster and can't stop worrying about health, money, family, work or school. In people with GAD, the worry often is unrealistic or out of proportion for the situation. Daily life becomes a constant state of worry, fear and dread.

Generalized anxiety disorder often begins at an early age, and the symptoms may develop more slowly than in other anxiety disorders. Many people with generalized anxiety disorder can't recall when they last felt relaxed or at ease.

You may find it impossible to banish your fears and worries, even when you're trying to relax or unwind. This anxiety can go on for months and months. You may feel you've lost control over managing it. And it may interfere with your ability to carry out daily routines. You may feel anxious and worried about things both large and small.

People who suffer from anxiety disorder seldom seek help as they either feel embarrassed about their problem, or they are unaware of even having a problem.  Safe to say, if you are reading this article then you probably have an idea that you need help, and that there is help available.  There are many symptoms that people who suffer from anxiety disorder experience, ranging from the physical to the psychological.

It is important to understand as much as you can about your problem, and the possible treatment and cure before you speak to your doctor or health care provider.  This will help you to ask the right questions and understand the treatment options that are at your disposal.  Anxiety disorder is a serious problem as it can affect your life.

Natural herbs are less costly than medication, and consist of herbs, vitamins and botanicals.

Below are some common herbs used in anxiety disorder treatment.

  • Passion Flower
This is a natural plant that is used to treat anxiety, amongst other ailments. Its has unique calming properties, and can also reduce body tremors from fear. It promotes better sleep, and can act as a painkiller. It also contains anti depressants, and is used for high blood pressure and epilepsy.
  • Lavender
This is a more popular alternative than the passion flower, and is also known for its calming properties. It is also one of the more effective treatments for panic attacks, and is a tonic for the nervous system.
  • Lemon Balm
This is used to calm the digestive and nervous system, and also reduces blood pressure. It is uncertain if used alone, lemon balm is effective for treating anxiety attacks. It is usually taken with Valerian, Chamomile or Passion flower.
  • Kava
It is an effective tranquilizer, and whilst it is not an addictive substance, research suggests that it may be linked to liver problems.
  • Valerian
This is another natural plant used for treating anxiety. It also promotes better sleep, allowing for the body to rest and recuperate.
  • Chamomile
Chamomile flower leaves are used to make tea, and is a natural alternative for treating anxiety. It also reduces fever, encourages sleep and enhances the body’s metabolism.
  • Dandelion
The roots and leaves are used to treat the body’s internal systems, and through it, provide relief for some of the symptoms of anxiety. It is commonly used in salads and tea, and can also be used as a substitute for coffee.

Natural Anxiety Tea Quotes:

Some patients I see are actually draining into their bodies the diseased thoughts of their minds. By Zacharty Bercovitz Find out about Natural Anxiety Tea

Anxiety cures - How You Can Regain Control of Your Life

Anxiety attacks occur differently for each individual. Some people may experience an anxiety attack once in their lives, while other individuals experience anxiety attacks on an ongoing basis. When anxiety attacks are experienced on a recurring basis, they are often the result of anxiety disorders. An anxiety attack is not life-threatening and to date, no person has died from suffering an attack. They can, however, affect the normal functioning of a person's life and therefore need to be cured.

Anxiety cures are found in many different forms; one of the most popular forms of curing anxiety is through the use of natural herbs. Many individuals may fear that they suffer from anxiety attacks whereas the symptoms may be related to other health problems. For example, shortness of breath and palpitations may relate to heart problems. Consulting a health physician is important in properly diagnosing anxiety attacks and ruling out other possibilities.

severe anxiety disorder can cause problems at work, home and in relationships. Many people do not know the cause of their anxiety and therefore consult a counselor to help them determine and recognize the reason for their anxiety attacks. Anxiety cures provided by a counselor involves recognition of the source of the anxiety and various techniques and methods to assist the client to move past and resolve the inner conflict that he or she may be experiencing.

Many counselors assist their clients with various forms of relaxation techniques and encourage their clients to partake in relaxing forms of exercise to reduce unnecessary tension and stress and thereby assisting with the recovery process. Other forms of anxiety cures include prescribed medication such as anti-anxiety drugs. These are usually only used as a last resort when other treatments or methods have been unsuccessful. A more common approach is to try herbal remedies first.

Valerian extract is a natural herb that is utilized to relieve anxiety and its related symptoms. This herb is beneficial in that it enables a person to feel calm and relaxed within a short period after having taken the medication. The advantage of using this herb is that it is not addictive, so even after having taken it for a long period, there are no harmful or unpleasant withdrawal effects.

Anxiety cures that are also proven to naturally relieve the symptoms of anxiety include Passion Flower and L-thianine. Both these forms of natural herbs are found to work as effectively as anti-anxiety drugs without the side-effects. Natural herbs used for anxiety cures relax the individual while still allowing for full concentration, and allow the individual to feel calmer in anxiety-provoking situations and prevent unnecessary stress-related symptoms caused by the anxiety disorder.

There is such a wide variety of natural anxiety cures that selecting the one that is best for you can be a confusing and time-consuming process. The best way to select a natural cure is to take note of the ingredients found in various natural supplements (for example; green tea) and base your selection on proven anti-anxiety ingredients, and the results you experience in using them.

quit cannabis, what is the best herbal remedy for depression/anxiety/unwellness so i dont need anti depressant

Looking for good natural suplements to beat the anxiety/stress and genral panic and feeling of uneasyness from quitting cannabis. I am taking a multi vitamin and green tea's.. how good is st john wort in comparison to anti depressants? Is there anything else i can try for the better on my body? plz reply with serious answers only :D

St John's Wort relaxes me like crazy. There are other herbs though...Chamomile, lemon balm and linden flowers are all considered mild relaxants and tranquilizers. Lemon balm is particularly good for digestive problems linked to anxiety. Skullcap is somewhat stronger, while valerian, hops (humulus lupulus), and passionflower all have an even stronger effect on the central nervous system. These three help with insomnia and can be combined to advantage. However, hops should not be used with marked depression, and valerian-to be effective- must be used in fairly high dosage (1/2 to 1 tsp of the tincture). If the anxiety is associated with palpitations, use motherwort. If it is connected to high blood pressure, use cramp bark (Viburnum opulus) and linden blossoms. For all herbs, make an infusion by pouring boiling water over 1 to 3 tsp of the dried herbs or a handful of fresh herbs. Steep for 10 to 15 minutes. Take a small cupful three or four times a day. You can buy the tincture of any of these herbs in a health food store; follow the directions on the bottle. Glad you quit. Real life is pretty cool once you get used to it. Good luck and Godspeed.

Anxiety Tea Quotes:

If a man harbors any sort of fear it percolates through all thinking damages his personality and makes him a landlord to a ghost. By Lloyd Douglas Find out about Anxiety Tea

Sandalwood &Tea;Tree Oil

Sandalwood is the fragrant wood of trees in the genus Santalum. The tree is medium sized 12-15 meters tall. The trees are felled or dug up by roots; the branches are worthless, so are cut off. It is usual to leave the trunk on the ground for several months for the white ants to eat away the sapwood, which is also of no value.

The core of dark heartwood gradually develops, which is covered by outer sapwood. The sandalwood tree is never felled, but uprooted in the rainy season, when the roots are richer in the precious essential oil. The best quality oil comes from the Indian province of Mysore and Tamil Nadu. Ayurvedic healers either used powdered Sandalwood or the burning of Sandalwood in their ancient practice. Sandalwood, along with agarwood, is the most popular and commonly used incense material by the Chinese and Japanese in worship and various ceremonies.
The wood is used for making fancy articles and is much carved. Essential oils and attars may have also been used in Indian medicine. It is used in aromatherapy and sandalwood oil is also used to prepare soaps. Sandalwood essential oil provides perfumes with a striking wood base note. Sandalwood is considered in alternative medicine to bring one closer with the divine. Sandalwood essential oil, which is very expensive in its pure form, is used primarily for Ayurvedic purposes, and treating anxiety. Tea tree oil or melaleuca oil is a clear to very pale golden color essential oil with a fresh camphoraceous odour. Tea tree oil , only a small number of randomized. Use of topical tea tree oil for fungal infections (including onychomycosis and tin penis), acne, and vaginal infections. Tea tree gel may be useful as a treatment on the skin for genital herpes. Tea tree oil is not recommended for use in the ears.
Tea tree oil contains constituents called terpenoids, which have been found to have antiseptic and antifungal activity. Tea tree oil is used in medically used cosmetic products also. Tea tree oil is also effective for treating insect bites, boils and minor wounds. It has also been known to help soothe sunburns, poison ivy, ear infections, and bee stings. When used topically, tea tree oil is reported to be mildly irritating, and has been associated with the development of allergic contact dermatitis, which may limit its potential as a topical agent for some patients. Tea tree oil is not just soothing and disinfecting. It is also effective against head colds. Tea tree oil is most commonly found as a pure essential oil. It is also an ingredient in creams, ointments, lotions, soaps, and shampoos. Tea tree oil should not be taken internally, even in small quantities. Don't use tea tree oil if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

I Have Anxiety, can I have just 1 cup of tea?

I've hear that you should avoid caffien when you have anxiety, if I have just one cup of tea will it make my anxiety worse?
I know you can get tea without caffein in but does it taste as nice?

I can`t have caffeine either, because it sets off panic attacks. I just buy caffeine free tea- Chamomile is my favorite and actually helps with my panic attacks at the same time =) And yes it tastes really good- especially with a tiny bit of honey.

Anti Anxiety Kava Quotes:

There are very few monsters who warrant the fear we have of them. By Andre Gide Find out about Anti Anxiety Kava

Top Tip to Reduce Stress, Anxiety and Boost your Spirits

Though stress is an evitable part of daily life, stressed out does not have to be. We all need an outlet for stress. If we can’t vent out our emotions in a healthy way, we may completely deplete ourselves by turning all that negative energy inward. There are lots of ways to do it. Here is a tip you may wish to consider to adopt to relieve your stress, enhance your vitality and energy sooner than you can imagine.

There are many natural supplements that can reduce anxiety and boost your spirits, which are all sold over the counter at health food stores and pharmacies. If the simple solutions do not work for you, you may want to try Kava, a wonderful, soothing supplement that is particularly good for people who are under a great deal of stress. If you are feeling stressed out or anxious, it is recommended that you include the following supplement in your daily plan for at least ten weeks, if not longer.

For thousands of years the herd kava has been used in the South Seas as a mood enhancer and treatment for anxiety. Today, kava is growing in popularity in the West, and kava teas and capsules are sold in health food stores and pharmacies. Kava contains biologically active compounds called kavalactones that have been shown to be effective against stress, anxiety, and muscle tension. Unlike tranquilizers, kava will not leave you feeling groggy or drugged; instead, it promotes a feeling of tranquillity and well-being. Even better, kava is non-addictive.

The kavalactones in kava have a profoundly positive effect on the region of the brain that controls emotion. There have been more than eight hundred studies of the benefits of kava as an anti-anxiety agent in Europe, and most of them have verified that kava works as well as, if not better than, many prescription anti-anxiety drugs.

Kava is also an important part of social life of South Sea residents. The kava ceremony, which involves drinking a strong kava drink, is reserved for honoured guests. Dignitaries who have visited the South Seas from Pope John Paul II to Hillary Clinton have participated in the kava ceremony. What a nice way to relax your guests and make them feel at home!

If you feel anxious and stressed out, it is recommended that you take 60 milligrams of kava daily. Like many other herbs, kava has a cumulative effect, which means that it will take about four weeks to notice an improvement in anxiety. You should feel better long before you have completed your own health routine, and if kava works well for you, you may want to continue on it for as long as you need it. If you are currently taking a prescription drug for anxiety, work with your doctor to wean yourself off it slowly and to start kava.

How should I take these natural treatments?

For anxiety I have: kava, theanine, lemon balm, and valerian. For depression: St. John’s Wart. I also have Nootropil - a “smart pill”.
•For anxiety, can I suddenly stop taking one treatment and start taking another right away?
•I can take one treatment for anxiety, St. John’s wort for depression, and the “smart pill” at the same time, correct?
•I cannot take all of the above mentioned anti-anxiety medicines at the same time, correct?
•I cannot take all of the above mentioned medicines at the same time, correct?

I wouldn't take all this stuff even in the same day. I've taken all the herbs you've mentioned but haven't used any of the drugs. I'm even very careful with the herbs.

My suggestion would be to meet with a well qualified herbologist who is also knowledgable about western medicine, specifically the smart pills and anti anxiety meds - this person might be hard to find.

When two drugs, or even herbs - especially those like kava and valerian, are taken together they have the effect of each drug then an additional synergistic effect of the combination. You could be treading on very dangerous ground by combining all these meds and herbs.

If you are taking all this stuff you may want to consider trying to wean yourself of all of it (with medical advice most likely) and experience "real" reality. It might not be as bad as you think.

Anxiety Kava Quotes:

Do not be afraid of tomorrow; for God is already there. By Author Unknown Find out about Anxiety Kava

Alternatives to Anxiety Medications

Anxiety cannot be avoided. It is a fact of life. Our society is facing a fast-paced lifestyle and sometimes, not all people are inclined into doing things at a faster rate. More often than not, people tend to feel anxious or worried with things, situations, or activities that may not suit their schedule or mood at the same point in time.

However, there are several anxiety treatment that can be done in several approaches, depending on the person's choice. There are others who may opt for anxiety medications, which can really do the trick sometimes, but then again, can cause side effects that may increase their feelings of discomfort. But there are other choices.

Studies on the use of alternative medicine have revealed effective herbal remedies for anxiety that are capable of relieving stress, tension, and unwanted fear, instead of taking anxiety medications that can cause much unwanted effects on the user. For all natural anxiety remedies, passion flower (Passiflora incarnata) is used to cure insomnia and has been historically used as a sedative. Passion flower can ease “nervous” gastrointestinal complaints, and is said to be able to reduce nervous tremors and lower high blood pressure.

Another natural remedy for anxiety would be through the use of Lavender, or lavandula augustifolia. Lavender is a general tonic for the nervous system, and is well-known for its calming properties, making it one of the most effective of natural panic attack and anxiety herbal remedies. Whilr Lemon Balm or Melissa Officinalis, is used as a restorative for the nervous system. which can also calm the digestive system, and reduces blood pressure as well, Catnip, or Nepeta Cataria, has a soothing effect that efficiently relieves anxiety. It has a sharp fragrance and is attractive and exciting to cats, which enjoys eating catnip.

Meanwhile, Fennel, or foeniculum vulgare, acts by relieving gastrointestinal problems, and is also used widely in Italy as an aromatic condiment and as medication too. Kava is another herbal remedy that helps in minimizing the feelings of anxiety. Kava tincture or capsule is made from the dried roots and rhizome from the bush of the pepper. Hop, or humulus lupulus, has a bitterflavor and aroma. This herbal anxiety remedy is used as a sedative and can cause a relaxing effect on the nervous system. Motherwort, or Leonurus, has rather a pungent odor and has a very bitter taste. Despite this, it helps stabilize emotions and has a calming effect on the user, therefore decreasing the feelings of anxiety.

Skullcap is also called helmet flower for the shape of the flowers, which resembles a knight’s helmet with the visor up. The tincture or capsules of this kind would help relax and nourish the nervous system and at the same time, induces sleep. Saint John’s Wort, or Hypericum perforatum, is commonly used as an alternative medicine for the treatment of mild depression. The flowers of the plant have been used for centuries in order to heal skin wounds and to treat depression, anxiety, and insomnia as well. These herbal remedies can bring wellness to a person with anxiety, thus recommended than using anxiety medications that can have the possibility to harm the body.

Fear can keep us up all night long but faith makes one fine pillow. By Philip Gulley Find out about Anxiety Kidneys

Anxiety and panic attacks - health

Anxiety is a normal reaction to stress. In normal instances it helps us deal with tense situations in life. But when it becomes excessive it can become incapacitating to the affected individual and disrupt daily life.

There are situations where a sudden and overwhelming sensation of anxiety becomes too much to handle and one can experience a sensation called a Panic Attack. These attacks are sudden surges of overpowering fear. This fear comes without warning and most of the time without any obvious reason. Compared to anxiety, this is a far more intense and debilitating experience all together.

Those who are affected by these panic attacks and have full-blown repeated attacks can become very disabled. Their condition can cause them to be fearful of going out in public or going to work for fear of having a sudden attack.

Panic attacks often times lead to other complications such as phobias, depressions, substance abuse, medical complications, even suicide. Panic attacks cause the person’s life to dramatically change. Panic attacks bring on the most complex and sudden changes known in the human body. It is experienced as overwhelming, uncontrollable dread, fear, and makes one feel as if they are terribly ill or about to die or lose their mind. It changes the physical functions of the major glands, heart, lungs, stomach, intestines, pancreas, kidneys, bladder, eyes, and the largest muscle group of the body.

After a few months of panic, about 10% of people become housebound and unable to leave home alone. After a few years about 30% of sufferers lose their job, pay or responsibilities. Some 17% are at risk of alcoholism and 40% risk chronic depression.

With such staggering statistics this is an illness that should not be taken lightly and deserves determined treatment for a positive resolution.

Seek medical help. Use relaxation techniques such as meditation, jerbal supplements such as st. John’s Wort, and eat lots of fruits and vegetables to encourage healthy chemical production is the brain. Do you use Flower Essence for Separation Anxiety?

Do you use Flower Essence for Separation Anxiety?

If so how much, which kind, and what is your training techniques?

Are there any good books on the use of them with dogs?

I've read April Frosts book which mentions them but doesn't go into detail.

I have a 2 yr old Siberian Husky with separation anxiety, big surprise there. It's not a problem other than the urination when she's alone in her crate. Kidneys are working fine.

If you use them, please let me know how they work for you.

Thank you!

I don't use flower essences for separation anxiety, although I have heard that lavender helps. I put a lavender scented oil in my house near where my dog is to see if it helps at all and it did seem to have some effect, but not a huge effect.

My dog also has separation anxiety. When he is left he digs in his crate (when he was left out of his crate he would chew and eat things). Some things I have done to reduce his separation anxiety are switch up the routine. Your dog probably knows the cues for when you leave (this could be getting your keys, putting your shoes on, etc.). My dog knows when I turn the blow dryer on that I'm getting ready to leave. So it is important that I can use the blow dryer sometimes when I'm not leaving. You may have to start carrying your keys around the house even when you aren't leaving, and going outside without your shoes on then putting your shoes on from your garage.

Another thing that I found extremely useful is 20 minutes before I leave I stop all contact with my dog. This includes talking, touching and eye contact. The only commands I give him are to go outside to the bathroom and to go to his crate, both of which are done with neutral tones. I make sure to leave calmly without paying attention to him. When I come home again I don't make a big fuss about coming back home. I sometimes wait a few minutes before letting him out of his crate, and I also am not overly excited to see him.

I'm sure you already give your dog lots of exercise, but making sure your dog has been exercised and has used its mind which also will tire out a dog. Do a little bit of training with her in the morning to mentally stimulate and tire her. Something that most people try is distracting the dog in the crate with something like a Kong filled with peanut butter. I know that my food motivated dog will not eat when he is nervous, but some dogs do, so if you haven't tried that yet, it is worth a try.

Good luck!

The Extraordinary Success Of Herbal Anxiety Treatment

You won't get rich selling herbal anxiety treatment! Lots of doctors, medical professionals and health gurus believe that, because they know that the powerful lobbies of the pharmaceutical companies peddling doubtful anxiety meds are going to be around for a long time to come. They also know that it is a multi million dollar business and they can cash in on it.

In Germany, herbal anxiety treatment which uses St. John's Wort is a much more popular option than Prozac. In fact this herb has also been called nature's Prozac. It has a few side effects but is a much safer and less addictive drug than the normal conventional drugs on the market to-day such as Paxil and Xanax. Reading the side effects of these drugs is likely to cause heart palpitations or simply more anxiety and depression! Unlike a herbal anxiety product which will actually help the patient to reach a state of well-being without any trauma.

There has been much debate about why St. John's Wort herb is not more popular in the US. Many people claim that it is the purity of the ingredients that makes the difference. However it is sufficient to make sure that you are getting your pills from a reputable supplier which is under FDA supervision which will guarantee the quality of the ingredients.

What are the other herbs in a typical herbal anxiety product? Valerian is great for getting a restful night's sleep. 5 -HTP is a herbal derivative which can actually increase the levels of serotonin in the brain which governs our moods. Other herbs are Passion Flower and Ginseng. Herbal anxiety treatment is now widely accepted in most complementary medicine circles and is enjoying enormous success.

Always check the website to make sure that certain GMP practices are being followed and also who the staff are and what their qualifications are.

Not just herbs! There are a wide variety of techniques which range from yoga, meditation, deep breathing, sports, which work in perfect harmony with herbal anxiety treatment.

Who all is treating their disorder the natural way, no meds?

I am diagnosed schizo-affective with severe anxiety and have tried lots of meds and finally decided to stop them. Im living a very happy life dealing with the things on my own and being spiritual with my God. i've found this is all the help i need, and with the guidance of my guardian i can live a happy successful life. Thus said, i have made my first plan and am sticking to it, something very hard to do with my bipolar manic phases. im going to join the Air Force next year as it will be one year i have been off my medications.

who else is taking it the natural way? and do you like it better cuz i sure do!
yeah its very cool. ive wanted to join all my life. i just have to get my medical documents together and take a psychological at MEPS. From there, i will be able to enlist

I did it the "natural" way, I used weed to self medicate, and when I stopped, I relapsed, really BADLY.

It depends on the severity of the disorder. If its manageable, I think people don't even notice they have the disorder, thus never get medicated.

If it is moderate, then some people try to do it the natural way, but it comes back to haunt them eventually, but sometimes it might never show itself again, as long as the triggers are being managed too.

If its serious, I don't think anyone should/anyone does not take medicine. Most people that don't take medicine with a serious form of a disorder end up living pretty messed up lives.

So either your disorder is really mild(which doesn't sound like it) or you might feel normal/able to handle you problems alone, but you might relapse into a bad episode sooner or later.

Schizo-affective disorder is partly(not sure if fully) a biological disorder with psychological effects. So there is no way to tell if you might get hit with a bad episode, but since its biological, something could eventually trigger it.

Also, I didn't know you could be allowed to enter the Air Force with a bipolar disorder/schizo-affective disorder. That's pretty cool.
