The thought "I want to kill myself" is something that does not just appear. The growth of a deep despair that has a root in dissatisfaction is what leads to suicide. Generally many people are just not happy, they are surviving and hanging on but happiness is missing. If the seed of dissatisfaction continues to grow it can be the start of a bigger problem that can lead to suicidal thoughts.

The suicidal person must be recognized as one who is more than just not happy; the lack of joy is the beginning of the suicidal seed. At many different times in our life we may feel unhappy, we may think that something we are going through is really bad. We have periods of depression and dissatisfaction. Some how we still hold hope that things will improve. The suicidal person does not feel things will get better; it is a long struggle without an end. Suicidal thoughts are a serious matter that must be taken with the utmost urgency. The belief that the suicidal person will just get better in time is a dangerous approach to take. Many people have lost love one with this mistaken belief that things will just automatically get better. Medication and therapy can help with suicidal thoughts but will not often cure.

I'm 19 years old and I'm a college freshman. I like the school I go to, it's only an hour from home. I don't go home too often. However, recently this semester I've been feeling very unhappy. I have a good life; a great boyfriend, good friends, good family, straight A's. It just doesn't make me happy though. Something isn't right. I have lost one of my best friends this year..she goes to my school but she's basically just abandoned me as a friend and now we don't talk. I've tried to talk to her but nothing helped. I've been talking to people about this depression, and they've been trying to give me tips to help, but I can't find the motivation to pull myself out. Occasionally, when I'm with friends, I'll feel okay and happy. But when I'm alone I feel so sad and lonely. I work very hard in school, and it may contribute to all my stress. 3) Stop using gels, hairsprays and hair-coloring products. If you must use them, do not use them excessively and learn the proper use of such products.

4) Don’t scratch the scalp when it is itchy. This will cause the problem to worsen.

5) If the problem is severe, see your doctor for anti-inflammatory cream for your scalp or anti-dandruff tablets to ingest.

6) Break 2 eggs, scramble and apply on the head. Leaves on the hair for 15 minutes, massage, and wash off with cold water so it won't stick into the hair.

7) Cook 2 beetroots in water, when soften mash in the water and use the beetroot water as a shampoo.

8) Get into a steamy bath or sauna to treat the dandruff.

9) Apple Apple cider vinegar is known to be very effective as a dandruff remedy. Apply some on your hair when taking a shower.

10) Olive oil is very good for the hair and the scalp. Apply some olive oil on your scalp for 15 minutes and wash off.

11) Add Lime juice can also be used as a remedy for dandruff.

12) Fenugreek seeds are another excellent home remedy for dandruff:

• Take 2 tablespoons of fenugreek seeds and soak overnight in water

• In the morning grind the soft seeds into a fine paste

• Apply this paste all over scalp and leave for half an hour

• Rinse off thoroughly with soap nut solution

• A teaspoon of lime juice on the last rinse will work wonders

13) Apply baby oil to the entire head in the evening, wrap your head with a towel and leave on until morning then shampoo. Use the baby oil daily until all dandruff is gone.

Drinking and Anti-depressants? Does it stop the effectivness?

I have been on celexa for about 2 months now and I was feeling great for a while. I started taking it for anxiety although I do suffer from depression as well. Now I am becomming depressed again, but there are circumstances in my life that explains some of it. I can feel myself wanting to become self destructive and I'm trying to fight it off, but it's getting really hard to do. I was doing okay with everything that was going on until I went out a drank the other night, needless to say I was completely smashed and now these feelings are creeping out. I am completely wrapped up in feeling bad about myself. If I have to stop drinking all together I will, I just want to know if thats the root cause first. What can I do to feel better? Any suggestions.
Please let me know your sources or credentials. This is becomming a problem and I need to know whether I should seek more help.

panic attacks, Anxiety, and Your Primary Care Physician: Are You Getting the Best Care?

I found an editorial in the March 6, 2007 edition of the Annals of Internal Medicine that I believe is spot-on. It was written by Wayne Katon, M.D. and Peter Roy-Byrne, M.D., from the University of Washington School of Medicine. The subject matter was poor treatment practices, as well as outcomes, for anxiety disorder sufferers who receive primary care-based mental health care.

The editorial begins with Drs. Katon and Roy-Byrne referring to the anxiety disorders as “the neglected stepchild of primary care-based mental health care.” Curiously, there are mountains of research floating about with regard to primary care-based mental health care for depression. But, such is certainly not the case for the anxiety disorders. And that’s really very remarkable when you consider that the anxiety disorders are the most frequently occurring mind variances (my stigma-busting replacement term for “mental illnesses”) in the United States, if not the world. And let’s not forget about the devastating social, educational, and vocational havoc they can wreak.

It can’t be of any great surprise that anxiety disorder sufferers are frequent flyers at primary care practices. And that’s “primarily” because of all of the anxiety-generated physical symptoms we experience and endure. I mean, there’s chest pain, rapid heart rate, heart palpitations, breathing difficulty, gastrointestinal issues, and on and on. And on top of the physical hub-bub is a very tough layer of psychiatric comorbidities, such as mood disorders, other anxiety disorders, and substance abuse and dependence.

In their editorial, Drs. Katon and Roy-Byrne cite the research of Kurt Kroenke, M.D., of Indiana University and the Regenstrief Institute. Dr. Kroenke’s work reveals generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), panic disorder, social anxiety disorder (social phobia), and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) as the most frequently presenting anxiety disorders at a primary care practice. Also noted in Kroenke’s research was the prevalence of comorbidities such as depression, somatization issues, and overall functional impairment. Kroenke’s study goes on to indicate there are several brief and reliable screening questionnaires that address all four of the disorders just mentioned, most notably the GAD-2 and GAD-7. And, finally, Kroenke’s work reveals that more than 40% of studied patients who presented with an anxiety disorder stated they weren’t receiving any mental health treatment whatsoever.       

Now, certainly, screening for the anxiety disorders at a primary care practice is a crucial first step; however, according to Katon and Roy-Byrne, arriving at a diagnosis doesn’t at all equate to improvement in quality of care or outcomes. Indeed, studies show anxiety patients who are receiving primary care-based mental health care, and are accurately diagnosed, show significant gaps in care. Among these are poor physician follow-up, which often leads to meds non-compliance, and very limited exposure to efficacious psychotherapies. So, when you pull together the data, primary care-based mental health care just doesn’t appear to be an option for anxiety sufferers.

Drs. Katon and Roy-Byrne believe it’s time for major change and suggest looking at primary care-based depression screening protocols as a starting point. They go on to recommend greater emphasis upon anxiety screening and linking screened anxiety sufferers with proven treatment resources. And they propose the use of allied health professionals in supporting the work of the primary care physician. Imagine a qualified professional who provides anxiety education to patients and staff. And this same team member could monitor treatment compliance and outcomes, facilitating physician follow-up appointments should the patient’s circumstances not improve. This allied professional could even work with a psychiatrist on medication adjustments and recommendations, passing the information on to the physician.

Well, this is all very interesting and revealing information, don’t you think? And as distressing as much of it is, there’s every reason in the world to be hopeful. And that’s because studies show the recommendations of change suggested by Drs. Katon and Roy-Byrne work. Period. So, it’s time to identify barriers to correction and push them aside.

There’s absolutely no reason why an anxiety sufferer shouldn’t be able to see his/her primary care physician and benefit from a great initial, and ongoing, collaborative offensive against their nemesis. Anything less is simply an injustice and an overwhelmingly sad missed opportunity.

For those who’ve read my previous article, Panic Attacks and Anxiety: Derealization and Depersonalization - You Aren’t Going Crazy!, this is the perfect follow-up scoop. But if you’ve yet to read it, not to worry, there’s still much to be learned here.

Now, in review, derealization and depersonalization all too often accompany panic attacks and anxiety. In general terms, derealization is a frightening feeling of detachment from one’s external environment, and depersonalization is an equally as frightening sense of detachment from self. Both can be absolutely crippling and take you to the turnstiles of your perception of insanity.

I believe many researchers and theorists would concur that within the context of panic and anxiety, derealization and depersonalization may well be the mind’s self-protective reaction to the ultimate perceived state of overload. See, it goes like this - when the mind feels it’s mega-overwhelmed it flips the switch on a perceptual filter, believing even the slightest additional bit of in-coming stimuli may lead to various degrees of psychic meltdown. Within this theoretical framework, it’s all about the mind in a powerful state of defense, doing all it can to give itself a fighting chance to sort and process that with which it’s already wrestling. So it only makes sense that it tries to survive by inhibiting and prohibiting fresh sensory messages streaming in from one’s immediate internal and external experience. And the resultant mind states are dominated by derealization and depersonalization.

Now, as we approach delivering a knockout punch to derealization and depersonalization it’s important to always keep in mind that, as I said in the previous paragraph, both of these sensations are born of the mind’s effort to protect itself. And the very cool thing about this notion is it leads us to the unique understanding that the mind has – well - a personality of its own. Furthermore, this personality is all too often negatively impacted by the mind being overwhelmed and in great mental and emotional pain. To me, this brings to the fore a “personality of mind,” giving the hellish protection-generated sensations of derealization and depersonalization rather a bit of softness and gentleness, making them seem so much less treacherous. I mean, it’s like the mind is this living, feeling being that actively communicates with us, so often asking for help. And we, in turn, have the opportunity to provide compassion and relief.

Alrighty then - so let’s move on to what one can do to make these horrifying, but now familiar and much less terrifying, phenomena go bye-bye. First of all, if one is willing to accept derealization and depersonalization as mind-protecting phenomena, it only stands to reason that their appearance - more importantly, disappearance - will be greatly influenced by our ability to maintain balanced and tolerable loads in our mental/emotional wheel barrel. And this is accomplished by stress management, which is so often driven by how we monitor and adjust our processes of thought. Now, of course, in many cases high levels of stress, and resultant anxiety, can’t be avoided - that’s just life. But we still hold the ability to manage their intensity and fallout by keeping tabs on how we think and subsequently react. It’s a matter of maintaining enlightened perspective and calm as our reasoned powers of interpretation have time to take the stage after the panic alarms have sounded.

Allow me to reiterate, there’s no doubt that the best first strategy to keep derealization and depersonalization at bay is to do all we can to maintain management over our stress and anxiety levels. Whether it’s through relaxation, visualization, diet, guided imagery, exercise, job or school change, relationship change, lifestyle change, therapy – or my techniques of interpreaction, interpreversal, S.A.I.L., S.P.A., I.A.M. not F.E.A.R. - whatever - we must do what it takes to stay self-managed on a day-in and day-out basis. If we do this, not only will we be able to keep derealization and depersonalization at arm's length, but should they strike and the alarms sound, we’ll be able to cruise our way past any exaggerated and inappropriate reactions. See – it’s our misinterpretations and overreactions that cause the problems, not derealization and depersonalization. How ‘bout that thought?

And as we’re approaching all of this, let’s not dismiss the concept of the mind having a personality and its expression of its need for "some love" through the frightening sensations of derealization and depersonalization. To me, as we accept this seemingly strange notion we apply a very soothing balm upon a potentially fevered mind. And this very much relates to the concept of mindfulness - a clear-minded, in-the-present-moment, self-observational technique that emphasizes viewing self as an outside observer - without criticism or judgment.

Okay - but let’s say in spite of our self-management efforts, derealization or depersonalization make a surprise visit. Ya’ ready? First and foremost – just stop whatever it is you’re doing. If you’re driving, pull over when you can. If you’re in a meeting, take a break. Heck - take a walk, if you’d like. Now, take a few full abdominal breaths, and as you take them immediately tell yourself that the one and only thing happening right now is your mind telling you it’s operating on overload and needs a little help. It’s talking with you, and that's pretty cool. Nothing dangerous, without a reason, or permanent is happening to you. And since you know what’s going on, and why, take some time to communicate with your mind, letting it know you’re there for it and will do whatever it takes to provide aid and comfort. Visualize your mind as if you’re looking at it from outside of your physical self (a healthy "out-of-body" experience). And as you do, visualize your mind very nicely calming down. Simply open yourself to a spirit of insight and reason, as you employ relaxation techniques, guided imagery, visualization, the strategies I've mentioned before, or anything that's worked for you in the past. And as you’re keeping yourself together, know that as soon as you get your sea-legs back, moving on with your day is the next order of business. It’s this thinking and believing that keeps the alarm from increasing in decibels, and keeps it from sounding in the future.

Yes - it’s this mindset, along with a few victories, that will enable you to function in the presence of derealization and depersonalization, allowing you to explore these uncomfortable states, accumulating insight along the way. And I'm betting you'll find that this philosophy, as well as time-proven strategies and techniques, will keep these icky sensations at bay – period. It’s all about making peace with derealization and depersonalization - indeed, making the best of an initially perceived unpleasant situation. I mean, who knows what kind of inner secrets could be unveiled upon exploration of our altered states of perception and consciousness. And I’ll tell you this – establishing a level of insight and comfort with a nemesis is a great way to remove any potential threat. But, make sure you identify the true nemesis. In this case, it’s not derealization and depersonalization, rather our misinterpretation and overreaction to a foreign perceptual experience.

From tons of experience I can tell you that you must ride out episodes of derealization and depersonalization. As was said earlier, if and when they pop onto the scene, acknowledge they’re there and calmly tell yourself they’re not a permanent state of consciousness and will shortly pass – that is if you stay cool. Remind yourself that your mind is overloaded and it’s talking with you, asking for a little help. And do a friend a favor. Just use any intervention strategy and technique you’ve come across, including those presented in my book, and go on about your business and your day, as no one will have a clue as to what you’re going through. I’ll go you one better. I’m challenging you to welcome derealization and depersonalization as they arrive, and dive right in to some intrapersonal exploration in their presence. Wouldn’t that be an interesting twist? And how disarming would it be to the all out dread and fear these sensations traditionally generate.

Ah – the mysteries and miseries of derealization and depersonalization. Nothing with which we can’t peacefully coexist. Go get 'em, tiger!

Panic Attacks, Anxiety, and Somatic Experiencing: Part II

In Part I of this two-article series we discussed Somatic Experiencing (SE), Dr. Peter A. Levine’s anxiety and trauma healing philosophy, within the context of a contributor to panic attacks and anxiety. Well, now we’re going to have a look at SE from a treatment perspective. As with the first article, I believe you’ll find the information fascinating and relevant. Let’s get to work.

In review, SE came to life as Dr. Levine made the observation that though wild animals of prey are under constant threat and siege, they’re rarely traumatized. Levine’s explanation is that these animals possess an innate mechanism that very efficiently manages and discharges the energy that accumulates in their bodies as a result of self-preservation behaviors. Levine went on to observe that when an animal of prey survives a potentially deadly chase, it actually takes time to physically shake-off unused survival energy before moving on with the herd.

Now, according to Dr. Levine, humans are equipped with essentially the same mechanism; however, ours is greatly inhibited by our more advanced cognitive capabilities. As a result, we brain our way out of a complete purging of survival energies, which, in turn, prohibits the nervous system from regaining equilibrium, or homeostasis. And that, in yet another turn, leads to trauma because the body now has to try to manage huge quantities of high-voltage unused survival energy, residual from an incomplete biological response to a threat. This is a highly toxic force, locked within, that tears our minds and bodies apart.

As he approaches treatment for anxiety and trauma, Dr. Levine believes the foundation must be set in what we feel in our bodies, as all of the distress we’re tolerating is as a result of thwarted physical attempts to escape disaster. To Levine, relief is about the removal of learned and dysfunctional freezing and immobility responses as we face anxiety-generating situations. And this is accomplished by reconnecting with the very natural defense and orientation responses that were interrupted as our previous escapes from threatening situations were foiled.

Okay, so how might one do that? Well, I believe you have to consider the issue within two distinctly different contexts. I mean, are we dealing with the fallout from past trauma or is the focus to be strictly upon coping skills in the present? If the matter is trauma from the past, it seems to me a good portion of insight-oriented therapy may be the first order of business. Now, if reestablishment of pre-traumatic defense and orienting responses is required to uncouple scene-of-the-crime, fear-induced freezing responses in an effort to process all of this unused survival energy, that would mean we have to take a trip back in time to the scene of the trauma. Yes, the very event from which escape from deep peril was interrupted. And while there, we must relive the event and implement the previously thwarted physical, psychological, and emotional responses that would have facilitated escape.

Certainly, this is no small task, as the actual traumatic event causing all the problems may be buried very deeply in the unconscious, making its identification close to impossible. However, assuming it’s uncovered over time, the goal of therapy would be to find oneself at the very moment in time when escape from the ensuing horror was aborted, and establish some means of physical, mental, and emotional escape. This would allow unused survival energies to flow forth.

I believe after insight-oriented therapy and, perhaps, bioenergetic analysis (BA) is incorporated to identify and process the trauma; the informational, cognitive, and exposure foundations of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) could come in quite handy. Indeed, CBT strategies and techniques could be used to address coping skills in the present. One final comment here. Dealing with buried trauma from the past is a very delicate and dicey bit of therapy and should only be facilitated by someone who really knows what they’re doing. Keep that in mind, okay?

Well, between the two articles in the series you ought to have at least a solid Somatic Experiencing knowledge base. It’s incredibly fascinating stuff and I encourage you to take the time to research Dr. Levine’s work. It will be well worth your time.

Social Anxiety Can Be Beaten

I thought I was just shy for years and years, no really I did. I never thought that feeling uncomfortable in new social situations was any more than that I would get tense and start to feel agitated every time I had to meet new people. Later on when I got married, yes I actually met someone who understood, it was quite daunting when my wife would return from work stating that so and so had invited us around to have dinner with them. God, it was all very horrible. I was a nurse for many years and never felt this way when I was working, strange though that must sound. However eventually I started training as a counselor and therapist and had to undergo some therapy sessions myself. I finally decided to face up to this issue and revealed it to my therapist who was extremely understanding and told me it was much more common than you might think. In fact meeting new people is actually just behind fear of public speaking as a concern for many.

Eventually we utilized some techniques that to my surprise actually took the nervousness away, I mean completely. For the first time in years I felt free to
be myself and let go and be much more amenable in social situations. What were those methods some of you well may ask. Lets have a look.

Some years ago a new psychological technique emerged called Thought Field Therapy, it was created bu a clinical psychologist, Roger Callahan.

His new technique involved tapping with your fingers on certain acupuncture or energy points and doing a particular sequence whilst thinking of the issue that is unresolved. Imagine the surprise of the majority of people when deepest seated phobias, fears, anxieties of all kinds and even long term post-traumatic stress disorder vanish, and im not joking here or hyping this up. A friend of mine had terrible stage fright (similar to public speaking fear I guess) and he tried this method and in three rounds of tapping his stage fright left town and hasn't returned. It is now being researched within psychological circles and of course the initial reaction of the psychological and psychiatric community was disbelief.

However, it does remind me of Francine Shapiros EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) technique which when it first became accessible to the public was scoffed at by the medical establishment worldwide. Now though it has had some very good research which shows that it is slightly better than traditional cognitive-behavioral treatment and is faster and more cost effective as a modality.

So if you want to try something new look up Thought Field Therapy or Emotional Freedom Technique which some practitioners use. instead. Look it never hurts to try something new, look it up on google to see if there is a practitioner near you, it might just work wonders for you, it did for me.

Living an ordinary life is not easy. Each and everyday, a person goes through bad situations and experience difficulties in different aspects of daily life, be it personal, social, work, or even in light situations such as recreation.  External activities or events taking place everyday can cause a person to feel bad, have problems, and experience high anxiety. feeling scared? awkward? uneasy? restless? or just plain bad? These are caused by encounters from negative reactions acquired by the person or through outside experiences. Fortunately, not all people are subject to high anxiety.

In recent studies, it has been determined that medically sound manipulations of the brain organ called "Amygdala" somehow showed some influence or control over anxiety levels. The amygdala are almond-shaped neurons located inside the medial temporal lobes. This brain organ is active in important human cognitive and emotional functions such as emotional learning, memory modulation, and other neuro-psychological activities.  

High anxiety can affect anybody anywhere, anytime but there are some people who are more predisposed to this psychological and emotional distress. For example, in NBA today, Commissioner David Stern was questioned and had a conference regarding a certain NBA referee named Tim Donaghy who supposedly was betting on NBA games.  Claims have been made regarding the alleged involvement of Stern and Donaghy in game-fixing. During the said conference, in front of dozens of reporters, Stern tried hard to maintain proper composure while answering questions fielded by the media.  Surely, he was trying to mask the anxiety he felt.  It is also most likely that a majority of the basketball referees were feeling fear and anxiety about what might happen should the game-fixing controversy escalates.

In that situation, it can be show that these two emotions can occur at the same time or in conjunction when a person is faced with a very serious situation or problem.  There are moments when the problem or tension gets so high that a person experiencing fear and anxiety may resort to acts of hostility or hysteria.

In reading all this, one has to ask, "Is there any way to avoid fear and anxiety?"

Well, it depends on the person. By not being bothered by the outside opinion, by being strong and true to oneself, knowing that you can stand on your own, that the person can avoid fear and anxiety.   Perhaps, self-confidence is the key to maintain peace of mind and a sense of control over one's life.  

Being calm and collected helps a person to approach a problem or difficult situation with psychological and emotional stability. That way, undertaking a difficult task or facing a problem becomes a challenge, and not a paralyzing burden.

However, it is important to note that there are situations that call for more responses other that having a self-confidence boost.  People with psychological disorders or serious emotional problems may need the help of doctors and other health professionals so that they can deal with stressful situations and other matters that bother them.  Medications may be prescribed to control the symptoms of their severe emotional distress.  Anti-stress medication, together with counseling and therapy, can do miracles for people who have long suffered from fears and worries that prevent them from living a good, satisfying life.

Would this really be that bad?

So, I play ice hockey in the winter, and now roller in the summer. And we all carpool out to the rink, since it's like an hour away. And someone always brings beer for after the game. I am so tempted to have a beer with the crew. But I take a lot of meds, that all say, don't take with alcohol. I take an anti-depressant, anti-anxiety, two bipolar meds, and Ativan as need.

Would it really be that bad if I had a beer with them? Like, what might happen if I do have a beer, combined with these medicines? Thanks in advance.
You guys are saying that I might get really sick. But how so? Like throwin up, or just really groggy, or what?

I don't think one beer would do much. as long as youre not drinking 20 shots of vodka you should be fine. Just don't drink too much

Today I finally got to go xmas shopping for my love. It's our 1st xmas together and he just bought a house around 8 months ago, the same time we got together.So we are paying a mortgage for the first time in our lives. Well I have had the worst anxiety the last few days coming to today knowing I'm going to be spending money. we'll of course him and i start bickering over nothing texting only for a few min. but it just made my anxiety way worse. how can i get rid of it. i'm finally home now with his gifts but i cant let the anxiety go.

and no we dont have a horrible relationship its perfectly fine, so thats not it. We bicker like normal couples.

Im in the same boat... We just bought a house, go to school full time, and work 50+ a week. Money is kinda tight so its been really stressful. Just give him some kisses and tell him how much fun christmas is going to be. Saying it out loud helps you believe it. Also, put on a good christmas movie (one that will make you laugh). Anxiety, Beer , Xanax , Cheast pains!! WHY??

I have suffered from severe anxiety disorder for about 2 years now. It is horrible at times and very hard to live with. I have tried sooo many meds for this. Antidepressants, beta blockers, tranquilizers, you name it. About a year ago my doctor prescribed Xanax and Klonopin to me. I drink about 6 to 8 beers anight. When I have acouple beers I feel good but the next morning I have very bad cheast pains in my left side and my heart is racing fast. Then its time to take the meds again sometimes the pains last most of the day. On a scale of 1 to 10 sometimes im around a 8 in pain. I been in and out of the ER but all my EKGs come back good. I think I might have something blocked in my heart. I lost my job because of all of this so I cant pay for any more test to find out. Can anyone help I dont want to find out when its to late and im in a box!! By the way im only 26 and I do smoke. Most of the time I dont even want to leave my house because Im afarid something may happen>>

A person can inherit it. It can be caused by traumatic life events such as the death of a loved one, a messy divorce, or serious financial difficulties. Being consistently angry, having poor self-esteem, or having feelings of complete hopelessness can be major contributing factors. A combination of any of the above can also trigger a clinically depressed state.

The symptoms of clinical depression range from mild to very severe. They can affect the way a person thinks and acts or they can appear in the form of debilitating physical disorders or illnesses. One person may suffer from a lack of concentration, fatigue, loss of appetite, and/or insomnia. Another person could be inflicted with suicidal thoughts or tendencies. Each person is different although in many cases there are uncontrollable feelings of guilt, anxiety, or sadness. Clinical depression can also lead to other serious problems such as alcoholism or eating disorders.

Treating clinical depression can be a challenge, depending on the underlying cause of it. Most physicians are quick to write a prescription for anti-depressant prescription drugs that can have some very serious side effects. Often times, cognitive therapy is very helpful in overcoming this illness. It teaches an individual how to approach challenging situations from a different angle. Interpersonal therapy is also beneficial because it helps the patient change negative behaviors that may be causing the depression. Many are turning to alternative therapies, such as exercise, vitamins, and herbal remedies as research has shown that it can also be beneficial in the treatment of clinical depression.

If you think you may be suffering from clinical depression, contact a medical professional immediately. It is a real illness that can be treated. Left untreated, it can become very serious, if not deadly. Also, don't assume that you have clinical depression and don't try to treat it yourself.
