Depression Parents Children Quotes:

When one has too great a dread of what is impending one feels some relief when the trouble has come. By Joseph Joubert Find out about Depression Parents Children

Why Are So Many Young Kids Depressed

At one time, young people were considered immune to sadness. Now mental health professionals know better. Even preschoolers can develop symptoms of depression, such as irritability, sadness, and withdrawal.

Abela, Associate Professor of Psychology at McGill and Director of the Cognitive Behaviour therapy Clinic at the Montreal Children's Hospital, says the realization that children can become clinically depressed is a recent development - within the last 20 years. But most studies of childhood depression focused on teenagers on the assumption that younger children don't have the cognitive capability and big-picture perspective to draw the negative conclusions that fuel depression.

Now Abela's research indicates that even the sandbox set can become depressed. He has found that small children, indeed, have already developed the cognitive factors that can lead to depression. Depression among children, he has found, respects no geographic boundaries.

"In the past 15 years, China has gone through the same amount of change that Europe or North America went through in 70 years during the Industrial Revolution." Marital infidelity and divorce are skyrocketing, urbanization is ripping apart traditional family compounds - and depression rates in China now equal our own.

Depression is the most common emotional problem in adolescence and the single greatest risk factor for teen suicide says child psychiatrist Peter Jensen, director of the Centre for the Advancement of Childrens Mental Health. He also notes that depression rated have been rising over the last half century: Teens born in the 1980s are more likely to develop depression than those who were born in the 1970s, whose rate of depression is higher than for those born in the 1960s.

Parents are bound to have trouble understanding a depressed teen's confusing signals; after all, who does not want to think of their child as happy and confident. But parents must pay attention to serious depression; the risks are too great if they don't.

No one knows the reason for this steady surge in sadness, but experts point to the breakdown of families, the pressures of the information age, and increased isolation. Social environment doesnt cause depression explains psychiatrist John March, M.D., who is heading a nation-wide study of therapies for teen depression. But environmental stress can bring out depression in people who are susceptible. Depression is more than teenage angst. It is an illness of the central nervous system that is common, impairing, and lethal.

Stress may predispose individuals to an initial episode. several factors associated with physical illness may contribute to the onset or worsening of depression. These include the psychological impact of disability, decline in quality of life, and the loss of relationships.

Medication side effects may also be a contributing factor. Physical illness may also contribute directly to the onset of depression by affecting physiological mechanisms such as neurotransmitters, hormones, and the immune system.

However, the strongest predictor of depression might be cigarette smoking. Depressed teens may smoke because they think smoking will make them feel better, but nicotine alters brain chemistry and actually worsens symptoms of depression.

Discrimination is another form of a societal stressor, and it can also lead to depression. It can take many forms some as subtle as not being included in a conversation or joke, some as blatant as threats scrawled on a wall, and some as violent as brutal beatings and other hate crimes. Because it can be hard to deal with individually, discrimination is a particularly sinister form of stress. By banding together, however, those who experience discrimination can take action to protect themselves, challenge the ignorance and hateful assumptions that fuel bigotry, and promote a healthier environment for all.

In the last decade, there have been reports of greater intolerance among young people and a greater tolerance for overt expressions and acts of hatred on college and university campuses. In a study by Schellenberg, Hirt, and Sears, attitudes toward homosexuals among students at a Canadian university were measured. Their findings showed that (1) attitudes toward gay men were more negative than attitudes towards lesbians; (2) students in the faculties of Arts or Social Science had more positive attitude than students in Business and Science; (3) women were more positive than men and (4) attitudes toward gay men also improved with time spend at college, but only for male students.

Genetic depression in child not adopted vs. child adopted?

If a child grows up and their parents tell them that when they were little(the parents), they had depression, and that depression is genetic in their family,so that the children might get depression in their lifetime because its genetic.
Now on the other hand...A child is adopted and this child has a genetic history of depression. Now if the child dosen't know that they were adopted and they do have a genetic history of of depression....
my question is: Is the child who grows up with a family that tells them that they have a chance of getting depression going to get it (at a higher chance) than the child who has it in its background but isn't told about it.
If this is confusing pls tell me to add more details. Its very hard to word but thanks for awnsering.

If it's going to develop there's not much to prevent it. Nature vs. nuture...I think it's a bit of both.
I think the person who's been warned would keep it in the back of their mind and analyze feelings closer. And the person who doesn't know might miss important clues and delay a diagnosis.

Depression Kids Health Quotes:

If you see ten troubles coming down the road you can be sure that nine will run into the ditch before they reach you. By Calvin Coolidge Find out about Depression Kids Health

Fibromyalgia Blues - Depression, Anxiety & Stress

How can you have chronic pain and fatigue and NOT be depressed?  All people - healthy or not - struggle every day with the stress of raising a family, their jobs, financial troubles, family illness and yes, death & taxes. You’ve got to get the kids to school on time, pay the bills, go to work (if you can work), clean the house, feed the pets, water the lawn, pick up the kids, take them to soccer, piano lessons, make dinner, make the kids do their chores (good luck) and you have to do all this AND MORE with debilitating pain, fatigue, migraines, IBS, TMJ, RLS, etc.  Just thinking about it is depressing!

Fibromyalgia sufferers are often misdiagnosed with anxiety disorders and depression, implying that it’s “all in your head”, but research has consistently proven that Fibromyalgia is not a form of depression or hypochondria. Anxiety and depression do CO-EXIST with FM & treatment is important because both can make FM worse and interfere with symptom management.

From my own experience, I can tell you how easy it is to let it get the best of you.  There were days when I just got into bed in my dark room I called “the cave” and isolated myself from my family and friends.  I avoided leaving the house unless I just absolutely had to and when I did, all I could think about was getting home and crawling into bed.  The more depressed I got, the more pain I had.  The more pain I had, the more depressed I got!

I had anxiety attacks and the stress of a bad financial situation was more than I could handle - or so I thought.  There were times when I wondered how in the world I was going to make through the next day - How much longer can I deal with this?  I felt hopeless, helpless and worthless.  My self-image was horrible and my confidence level was nonexistent.  I was ashamed.

Have you ever felt that way?  I hope not, but IF YOU HAVE, there is a way to get out of the pit of depression and anxiety!  You can become a productive member of your family and society as a whole.  It’s not easy, but what choice do you have?  You know you don’t want to live like this forever.

I always hated the idea of therapy!  First of all, the effort it would take for me to get out of the house was a big factor.  Secondly, I didn’t want to tell all my pitiful story to a stranger and I wasn’t even sure I’d be believed when it came to the Fibromyalgia part.  There are still some mental health professionals that believe FM is psychological rather than physiological.  I didn’t want to hear it.

About a year ago, my son needed therapy for depression and anger issues.  I took him to several professionals and one suggested (in front of my son) that he could cure my Fibromyalgia because it was more emotional & psychological stress than a physical problem.  The next day, we went to another therapist.  I didn’t trust him to help my son if he was going to say that to me.  We finally found one that fit our family since we would all take part in my son’s therapy.  It didn’t take me or the therapist long to discover I needed help, too.  He saw right through me!

Therapy has changed my life in so many ways and with an understanding professional to guide me, I have taken back the control I had given up to Fibromyalgia.  He helped me see my value, my positive traits and taught me how to cope with my pain, stress, anxiety and depression.  Talking about it with an objective party is also a way of healing emotional scars and it was a relief to just lay it all out there!  He also recommended a new anti-depressant to my doctor which has helped me a lot.

Perception is everything.  I perceived myself a certain way and became exactly that.

My father was recently diagnosed with small cell lung cancer - he never smoked.  It is the rarer form of lung cancer that is fast-acting and incurable.  I was devastated when I heard the news!  My dad is my hero and my rock - life without him is something I can’t even fathom.  I really lost it for a while, but with counseling, I am finding my own way to cope.  I’m still have bad days, but I am trying to work through them in a more healthy way.  The woman I was two years ago would have gone back to her cave and never come out.

There many medications, supplements & herbs out there that can help.  Talk to your doctor about which ones might work for you and always double check for interactions and side effects!  I have a lot of information about prescription drugs alternatives, therapies and other resources on my website that might be of help.

Don’t be afraid to take that first step and find a good mental health professional!  It truly is worth it.  I am now a functioning “Fibromyte” and though, I still have pain and other issues, I can get through them one day at a time.  If I can do it, YOU can, too!

Thinking about our economy, what do you think our economy is heading for? AnotherGreat depression?

With higher cost of living, scarce job market, lay offs, businesses moving, labor rate, health care and the exchange rate what do you think? How will their decisions today effect our future and what decisions do they make that we will have to amend to make our kids future to be better? What decisions will we make or would have made if we were in there shoes?

I majored in Economics in college and one thing I learned is that this country's economy has an incredible ability to rebound, even after bad recessions. It has happened many times over and over, however, the US is clearly losing its privileged economic position the world. The subprime mortgage meltdown pretty much supports your idea that things are getting worse and worse. The amount of personal debt in the US is another concern, although it is much higher in the UK. I truly think that things will only get worse as time progresses.

Great Depression Newsletter Quotes:

A stammering man is never a worthless one. Physiology can tell you why. It is an excess of sensibility to the presence of his fellow creature that makes him stammer. By Thomas Carlyle letter to Ralph Waldo Emerson 17 November 1843 Find out about Great Depression Newsletter

The SEC –Patrolling the Domestic Penny Stock Shores

During the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, a little confidence can go a long way. It’s even better when the vote of confidence does what it’s actually suppose to do - - instill confidence.

The Obama administration unveiled a sweeping regulatory overhaul aimed at restoring confidence in the U.S. financial system… and preventing a repeat of the worst crisis to hit Wall Street in seven decades.

The plan gives new, far reaching powers, to the Federal Reserve to oversee the entire financial system. It will also create a new consumer protection agency to guard against the types of abuse that played a big role in the current crisis.

speaking of abuse and a vote of confidence, the Securities and Exchange Commission set tongues wagging when it reached a settlement with Bernard Madoff that keeps him from ever working again in the securities industry. Kevin Bacon thanks you.

Back to the regulatory overhaul.

Although Obama’s regulatory strategy speaks primarily to the domestic audience, the reaction of the global economic community is also crucial. After all, a move to shore up financial weaknesses could give China, America's biggest foreign creditor, greater confidence.

"Although Obama's new rules sent out a positive signal, it's impossible to rebuild the credibility of the U.S. financial system to 100%," said Mei Xinyu, a researcher at China's Ministry of Commerce.

That said, I’m not sure any financial system can ever be viewed with a 100% reliability factor, whether it belongs to U.S.A, or dare I suggest, China.

While not perfect, the proposed financial overhaul should lead to more enforcement cases brought against stock brokers and others who run amok of the sweeping rules. The increase in powers gives the SEC more authority to regulate financial products. More significantly, it would give the agency more of an ability to investigate possible wrongdoings.

A more far reaching SEC safety net is seen as an encouraging sign. Regulators have, justifiably, been under pressure to increase efforts to fight corporate wrongdoing. The SEC has been facing heat from investors and lawmakers for failing to follow up on warnings over the years that money manager Bernard Madoff was running a massive swindle.

Under the new guidelines, the SEC can bring civil lawsuits against people for violating securities laws, including cases involving insider trading or market manipulation. If violations of securities laws are deemed willful, prosecutors can also seek criminal charges.

One area where the SEC is set to get new power under the proposed overhaul would be in requiring that broker-dealers have a duty to their clients -- just like investment advisers do.

This places a higher standard on brokers' conduct that requires they always act in the customer's best interests when recommending products. Brokers and analysts are no longer just culpable for what they do…but they are also responsible for what they do not do. Sins of omission are no longer a valid excuse.

Under the rule change, brokers could be charged with securities fraud if they omit information deemed critical for investors, said Steven Feldman, a partner in the white-collar defense practice at the law firm Herrick in New York.

"That is a perfect example of raising the bar of behavior for a particular industry," he said. "If people continue to play by the old rules, they will be subject to civil and criminal proceedings."

While the SEC may have bigger fish to fry than those brokers, advisors, and newsletters that promote penny stocks, I’m not convinced that there is an avenue that impacts the average American more - and is in need of monitoring.

Thanks to the current economic situation, there are more companies than ever before trading under $5.00. At the same time, that also means there are a lot more people buying and selling penny stocks. Dare I say, even a large number of investors who thought they’d never delve into penny stocks.

There are also a number of free penny stock newsletters out there taking advantage of the situation, pumping and dumping terrible penny stocks; promising the world while selling subscribers their own worthless shares.

If it’s possible for the SEC to clamp down on individual investors who pump penny stocks on message boards, surely it’s possible for the SEC to clamp down on those industry “experts” who tout garbage penny stocks and hide behind small print disclosures.

Increasing the SEC’s scope and the world it regulates will certainly create a greater sense of overall market confidence. That said, patrolling the domestic penny stock shores could create an even greater sense of security for the largest segment of the American population.

One Investors Junk Could Be A Penny Stock Investors Treasure

I was sitting with an acquaintance this past week at the dinner table. His vocabulary is chock full of clichés. It’s not that he thinks he made them up. I’m sure he knows that he’s uttering sayings people have been privy to for hundreds of years. I imagine he thinks inserting them into conversations will illuminate an idea or simplify it for us.

As we were sitting down he looked at a recent garage sale find and wisely chirped, “One mans junk is another mans treasure.”

That said, not all supposed "junk" should be discarded. A number of analysts have been saying that the current stock market rally is dominated by so-called “junk stocks”. One writer noted that the biggest winners since mid-July have been the companies with the most beaten-down shares and the ones whose business outlooks are seen as the riskiest within the Standard & Poor's 500 Index.

The biggest gainers have been dominated by 81 S&P companies with unspectacular credit ratings of "BB" or lower, also categorized as high-yield "junk." The stock prices of these junk-rated companies have jumped on average by between 21% and 29.5% between July 10 and August 4. By comparison, investment-grade companies rated "BBB" or above that have seen their shares rise between 9.50% and 19.25%.

While the current rally has a similar feel to the moves seen during the massive March rebound, some investors still argue that the rally is not sustainable without the participation of “higher-quality” companies.

But for those who have been investing in penny stocks for any period of time, it is not uncommon in a recovery for small cap stocks to typically lead the way when the markets bounce back.

Said one analyst, "There are those who will say this is a low-quality rally, but I have to say that I don't know what people's expectations are -- a 50% rally in five months is anything but lousy."

In a recession and a falling stock market, companies with lower credit ratings and more leverage get punished the most. It follows then, that when things improve, those stocks have the most room to run. Conversely, the strongest companies with higher credit ratings tend to weather bad times better so when the economy improves, their stocks usually don't skyrocket.

As for the current “junk stock” rally, another analyst said, "It seems to me that if investors are willing to put more money into companies with shaky finances, that's a good sign -- not a bad one."

"Investors are probably getting out of these bastions of safety, like the Wal-Marts of the world, and moving into things with more leverage, more risk," he added. "Investors are now believing that those companies will give you more bang for the buck as we see the economy improve."

History is of course on our side. After the 1973-74 recession, small stocks beat larger ones for the following 10 years. Going back further, to 1932, the year before the Great Depression ended, small cap stocks beat the market for 11 of the following 13 years.

More recently, the Russell 2000 Index (the most common benchmark of publicly traded small cap companies) has gained 40.2% since the market bottomed on March 9. In that span, the blue-chip-weighted S&P 500 has climbed 24.2%.

While a 24% gain isn’t anything to sneeze at, there are a lot of penny stock investors sitting on larger gains.

Depression Fiction Stories Quotes:

" People gather bundles of sticks to build bridges they never cross. By Author Unknown Find out about Depression Fiction Stories

Fiction Author William R. Potter

Bio Quote :
“I guess you could say the writing bug bit me at an early age. Shortly after watching the first remake of King Kong, around the age of ten or eleven, I scribbled a few lines about a mutant crab attacking the city, and called it a book. I discovered poetry in my teens and continue to write verse today. However, that kid's dream of writing a book never went away. Lighting the Dark Side was published in April 2008, and full length novel will be released in the fall 2009.

Lighting the Dark Side: Six Modern Tales
by William R. Potter

LIGHTING THE DARK SIDE won the 2009 Allbooks Review Editor’s Choice Award for short story collections.

The stories...

LIGHTING THE DARK SIDE is a collection of six stories. Each selection features leading characters that live their lives as normally as possible and then suddenly find themselves in extraordinary situations.

Bent, Not Broken. Dwayne Johnson knows he is different. He lives in a world that can always be depended on to remind him of his strangeness. Despite his social awkwardness, Dwayne meets a beautiful woman at a bus stop and soon his entire life transforms. Unfortunately his obsessions work against him, keeping the couple apart pushing Dwayne to the point of alcoholism and insanity.

In the Gray. Michael Connor is estranged from his entire family and for good reason. His father is wife beating racist, his brother a corrupt politician, and his mother is all too willing look the other way. Unfortunately his loving Mum won’t stop calling…insisting that he become more like his sibling and settle down and take a wife.

Blessing or Curse? When Brad Stewart won eleven million dollars in the lottery he would never have guessed a group of extortionists would kidnap his son for ransom. His decision to follow the kidnapper’s demands and not involve the police is a choice that will threaten his marriage and his life with the violence of vigilantism.

May 18th Trevor Woodward just wants to go home after a long day at work. He is tired of all the talk about the approaching "comet" that may or may not strike the earth. However, he can’t shake the feeling that he has lived through the events of the historic day before. Or is it many times?

Prominent Couple Slain. Detective Jack Staal of the Hanson Police Major Crime Section has recently transferred from the Vancouver Police departments MCS. Burnt out, tired and weary of Homicide, he’s looking forward to the lower profile cases of a small town. That wish is dashed when a former Mayor candidate and his wife are found murdered.

Surviving the Fall. Since childhood, James Goodal has had a soft spot for stray creatures offering as many as possible a good home. Now James is separated from his wife, depressed and alone. Then one afternoon, a few days before Christmas, he meets a young street girl named Ashley. Days after taking her in, his simple life is turned into a nightmare of violence and death as Ashley’s past catches up to her at Goodal’s home.

Praise for William Potter and LIGHTING THE DARK SIDE:

"These novellas and short stories are definitely page-turners. I shouldn’t think it’d be long before a major publishing house snaps Mr. Potter up because he belongs on the bookshelves with the likes of Jeffery Deaver and Peter Abrahams."

DEAD of KNIGHT-A Jack Staal Mystery
by William R. Potter (author of LIGHTING THE DARK SIDE)

Your next birthday could be murder! Believing he is a soldier of justice, a misguided young man begins a callous campaign of terror murdering women on their birthdays. Convinced of his righteousness he continues his brutal crusade forcing the citizens of Hanson B.C. to acknowledge a serial killer active in their rural community.

The Mounties always get their man…but not if Jack Staal gets him first! The Royal Canadian Mounted Police put their Integrated Homicide Investigation Teams into action. Detective Jack Staal and the rest of Hanson PD are invited to support the RCMP. However, Staal, the once elite major-crime investigator reduced to small-town detective is desperate for redemption. He ignores protocol to work a case that is not his to solve.

Told from the perspective of both killer and cop DEAD of KNIGHT is a cat and mouse thriller sure to delight fans of Patricia Cornwell’s Kay Scarpetta or Michael Connelly’s Harry Bosch.

Short story ideas, 1940s / WWII setting?

For my writing class I have to do a historical fiction short story. I'd love to do the '40s because of the events and changes our country went through (war, Hollywood, getting over the depression, etc.). I know that this has been overdone, so I'm thinking of ways to make it unique. I could tell it through the eyes if a young girl, or maybe an elderly woman.

But that's just one idea. I could always go withany decade from 1850s to 1970s. If you have any suggestions or thoughts, please answer. All are welcome and much appreciated!!

hmm a story about a jewish girl and how she might get saved by movin in and pretendin to live in with another family. She might have to lose her family to survive and in the end her family survives.

Worrying is like a rocking chair it gives you something to do but it gets you nowhere. By Glenn Turner Find out about Depression For Teens

“Depression in Teens Caused By Sleep Apnea,” Claims Medical Translation Worker

Depression in adolescents has hit epidemic levels.  Today, approximately one in five teens suffers from depression and it effects which include illness, poor quality of life and an increased risk of suicide.  In the past, medical personnel blamed depression sleep apnea.  However, a new report by Medical Researchers and Medical Translation professionals suggest that depression in teens stems from inadequate sleep.

Recent medical studies suggest that the optimal amount of sleep for teens is 9-hours per night.  However, getting nine hours of sleep each night would mean that teenagers who wake up at 6:30 a.m. would need to be sound asleep 9PM.  But teenagers often place more importance on homework, television and internet surfing than on sleeping.  Consequently, they frequently wake up groggy, cranky and distracted.  But when sleep deprivation occurs over several days, depression can set in.

According to the medical translation team member, “In the past, psychologist assumed that depression caused sleep interruptions.  But our preliminary new research suggests that lack of sleep causes depression.”  While the research team now plans a larger study, they are optimistic about their initial results.  That’s because of the seriousness that depression plays in the lives of adolescents.  Unfortunately, depression has become an epidemic among teens and there aren’t enough good treatment options available.  According to a Japanese Translation worker on the team, “Over 33% of teens who undergo psychotherapy and medication treatment options fail to respond to those treatments.”

While additional sleep for teens maybe a viable treatment option, it is unlikely that most teen will forgo late night television, web surfing, texting and homework in exchange for additional sleep.

Prozac and depression in teens? Pros and cons?

I'm 16 and I've suffered from depression for about a year.
I've tried counseling with 5 different counselors. I found the one that I can open up to, but it's not really working. I don't have anything else to talk about, nothing is happening in my life that is worrying or stressing me.
I saw a psychiatrist who said I would benefit from Prozac because it's been so long and no improvement. I self-harm. I'm fed up of living my life like a blur, I don't take anything or remember anything. It's like the joy has been sucked out of it.

Pros and cons of Prozac for teens?
What else could I do?

just have someone be there while u r trying out prozac. also, get a lock box or throw out all things u would use to self-harm. sounds odd, but i had to do this too. might as well take away ways of hurting yourself especially when experimenting w/ a new antidepressant.

i dont know if anyone else is experiencing this, but i thought prozac made me feel more anxious ( so much that it was obviously from the meds).

they havent done research on it specifically, but i dont think this med is the first one to try on the list if you self-harm. they effect everyone differently, but i think if you have a compulsive nature...more of a pushed/anxious feeling can only make it worse.

Depression Sourcebook Quotes:

Some patients I see are actually draining into their bodies the diseased thoughts of their minds. By Zacharty Bercovitz Find out about Depression Sourcebook

Prevent Your Dog Health Problems

According to the American Veterinary Medical Association's (AVMA) U.S. Pet Ownership & Demographics Sourcebook, 58.3% of all American households have at least one pet. There are more than 60 million pet dogs in America and the average pet dog visits its veterinarian almost twice as many times as the average dog. Pet owners are now spending more than ever before on their companions with four legs (approximately US $19 billion annually in 2006 nearly doubled from US $11.1 billion in 1996).

In the past, dietary recommendations for dogs were largely drawn from nutritional management of diseases common to the aging process. Research, however, has shown that special nutrition can proactively prevent health problems common in dogs, such as the following:

* Obesity
* Loss of Muscle Mass
* Inappropriate Elimination Behavior
* Changes in Interactions
* Changes in Activity Patterns
* Unexplained Weight Loss or Gain
* Changes in Food and Water Consumption
* Changes in Grooming
* Signs of Stress
* Bad Breath or Odor

Despite continued advances in canine healthcare, behavior problems are still the most common reason for dog euthanasia. While diseases pose a threat to your dog, misunderstanding its behavior can be just as dangerous. Research shows negative behavior (like destroying furniture and unexplained aggression) is the primary reason that dogs are euthanized. Often these behaviors are associated with curable illnesses.

Patches of hair loss or a greasy or matted appearance can signal underlying diseases.

A decrease in grooming behavior is associated with fear, anxiety, obesity, or illnesses. An increase in grooming may be a sign of a skin problem. Your dog can be stressed despite having an "easy" life because the social organization of dogs is different from that of people. Changes in the family, such as adding a new pet, should be done gradually. A stressed dog may spend more time awake and scanning its environment, withdraw from society, and exhibit signs of depression like fluctuating appetite.

Anemia is commonly associated with specific diseases in dogs like chronic renal failure. A hormone called erythropoietin (EPO) is produced by the kidneys and stimulates the bone marrow to produce new red blood cells to replace old and worn ones in circulation. In diseases such as chronic renal failure, EPO levels may be decreased and anemia may develop as a result. Typical signs associated with anemia are decreased activity and poor appetite.

Parasites exist internally and externally in dogs. Intestinal parasitism exists in all ages of dogs with the greatest frequency in puppies. Types and incidence of parasitism varies with geographic regions. Additionally, age and immune status are significant factors influencing gastrointestinal (GI) parasitism. Most parasites are diagnosed by a microscopic fecal examination using various chemicals to help concentrate the population of parasite eggs. Some parasites are visible to the naked eye although they are not consistently shed into the feces.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), the most common cause of chronic vomiting and diarrhea in dogs, is a disease in which diet may have an important role. The intestinal wall becomes thickened by inflammatory cells, and the microscopic and gross surface folds of the intestinal lining are flattened, leading to a great loss of surface area. As the surface area is reduced, the ability of the dog to digest and absorb nutrients is reduced, leading to weight loss in the face of normal or increased appetite. The stools often become looser and in some cases, more odorous.

Western medicine relies on aggressive prescription drugs and surgery to deal with many problems related to canine health. Unfortunately, these methods often result in unwanted and even dangerous side effects.
Ayurveda, the science of life, prevention and longevity, is the oldest and most
holistic and comprehensive medical system available. Its fundamentals can be found in Hindu scriptures called the Vedas - the ancient Indian books of wisdom written over 5,000 years ago. Ayurveda uses the inherent principles of nature to help maintain good health in dogs by keeping the canine body, mind, and spirit in perfect equilibrium with nature.

India Herbs has a seasoned group of Ayurvedic doctors specialized in Vajikarana, one of the eight major specialties of Ayurveda. Vajikarana prescribes the therapeutic use of various herbal and tonic preparations geared towards rejuvenating your dog.

India Herbs' Vajikarana scientists combine a proprietary herbal formula based on centuries old wisdom with advice on diet and exercise to help your dog attain optimal health, appearance, and longevity through safe and natural means.

De-Stressing with Reiki

Bringing balance into our lives is the most effective way to get the best out of life. The system of Reiki centers on bringing the body back into balance. This is a Japanese technique from the early 1900's created by Mikao Usui. The word can be translated as either ‘spiritual energy' or ‘universal energy'. The first level is taught over a two-day period and has dual competencies; the student may use it on clients (in conjunction with other therapies) and on the self as a personal development tool.

The purpose of a Reiki treatment is to re-align and bring the body into a natural balance physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. The energy washes down through the body clearing energetic obstructions and strengthening the flow of this energetic ‘river', or the meridians. Therefore, there are similarities between the system of Reiki and other therapies such as acupuncture. The differences are that this system does not manipulate the energy or body, is not intrusive and is an extremely simple technique that anyone can learn and use in complete safety.

A client will find that Reiki works on many levels. This system is not diagnostic and does not aim to achieve specific results. It is believed that the client's body is always in survival mode and will therefore draw the energy where he/she needs it rather than where the practitioner believes it is beneficial. This is why the practitioner cannot harm the client, as it the client's body that is in control of what is energetically happening.

To be aligned or balanced sounds wonderful but what does it mean for the client? Initially, one moves into a deep, restful space and may or may not actually sense the energy according to one's sensitivity. Benefits of this ‘giving over' to the energy may be clarity of thought, renewed physical strength, calmness, reduced stress levels, a sense of connectedness as well as the easing of conditions such as insomnia, depression and addiction. True relaxation is reflected in one's face after a Reiki treatment. Stress tightens the muscles and skin and when we relax we look and feel years younger.

Clients do not need to remove any clothing during a treatment and hands are placed either on or just off the body. Practitioners are taught to channel energy from around them through their bodies and out through their hands. The client then draws on this energy. This means that the practitioner does not use his/her own energy and feels refreshed afterwards rather than exhausted. In fact the practitioner is receiving a treatment at the same time as the client -making it beneficial for all involved.

To practise this system it is necessary to learn from a Reiki teacher (often called a Reiki Master). It is possible to integrate Reiki into any health or beauty modality once the practitioner has completed the first level of the 3-part system. If the practitioner wished to work solely with the system of Reiki then it would be suggested that the practitioner complete the second level of the system and join a student clinic to build experience with the energy and on-on-one client skills. The third level of the system continues the practitioner's own personal development and may be used to begin studying toward becoming a Reiki teacher.

Clients today are more interested in spirituality and well-being than ever before. To be able to bring these elements into the traditional clinic environment of a salon or spa, a special atmosphere is created. Clients today expect ‘Holistic' treatments. This meaning that they wish to be pampered from every direction including the more mystical and spiritual paths.

It is exciting for clients to know that when they come for a treatment there is likely to be a new element added to the more traditional salon and spa techniques. If a client knows that the practitioner is continually upgrading their knowledge and abilities then the client will also feel confident in such capable hands.

The International House of Reiki is run by the founding directors Reiki Master/Teachers Frans and Bronwen Stiene. Depression Help Line Quotes:

Fear is the lengthened shadow of ignorance. By Arnold Glasow Find out about Depression Help Line

Acupuncture - an Effective Depression Remedy?

Acupuncture is one of the oldest forms of medicine - dating back to around 8,000 years ago in ancient China. Acupuncture is the art of inserting tiny needles into specific places on the body and can cure many different ailments including asthma, insomnia and high blood pressure. It is believed that acupuncture can successfully treat over 40 different common health problems - but can it treat depression?

Depression is the most common emotional condition in the United States - affecting, to some degree, an estimated 11 million people every year. Depression is more common in women, affecting around 20% of women as opposed to around 10% of men - although men are more inclined to commit suicide when depressed. The illness costs an estimated $40 billion a year in charges for treatment and lost productivity.

Research suggests that acupuncture can help to treat depression - although there is little firm evidence to date. One major study was undertaken by the National Institute of Health in 1998 - the study determined that sufferers from depression who were treated with acupuncture enjoyed a 40% reduction in symptoms. Other studies have had similar results - those treated with acupuncture were more likely to be cured than those treated with traditional medication or therapy.

According to Chinese wisdom, a person's body and mind are both part of the same system. Acupuncture treats both the body and the mind at the same time, rather than separating the two. The purpose of acupuncture treatment is to try to balance the body's life energy, by the skillful placement of the needles. The concept of the life energy is important to our overall sense of well being - a person with a reduced flow of life energy will tend to suffer from stress or depression.

Acupuncture is effective as it tends to work on a person's general health, rather than treating a specific disease or ailment. It's also considered to be a natural remedy, so it is recommended for its lack of side effects, rather than medication. Medications can effectively treat depression but often have side effects and can introduce toxins into the body. Most practitioners recommend acupuncture along with therapy to treat depression or anxiety.

Acupuncture supposedly helps treat depression by unblocking the body's clogged up lines of energy - or meridians. Once the energy lines are unblocked by placing the needles into the correct point on the body, the energy can flow through the body freely and whatever negative symptoms are in the body will then be removed.

It's likely that acupuncture is effective in treating depression because it helps to stimulate the body's central nervous system and increases the production of naturally occurring chemicals. These chemicals, which include enkephalins and endorphins, are partly responsible for a person's feeling of well being.

Acupuncture has several benefits when it comes to treating depression as well as other conditions. There are no side effects and no danger of addiction. Most practitioners also advocate exercise, a healthy diet and lifestyle along with the acupuncture treatment. Acupuncture also helps a person to sleep better, and reduces muscle tension and pain.

Also, being treated for depression with acupuncture is fast - positive results can typically be achieved by just several sessions over several weeks rather than a course of antidepressant drugs which may take several months.

Many people state that they feel better and have more energy after just the first treatment. And as acupuncture tends to treat the actual root cause of depression - there's a good chance that the treatment may prevent a person from suffering from depression in the future. Those who have been treated for depression by acupuncture usually state that they maintain a feeling of well being after the treatment.

Most people - even those who have a needle phobia - tend to not be too bothered by the needles. The needles used in acupuncture are extremely fine and cause virtually no pain when being used - there may be a slight feeling of discomfort or pressure, when being treated with needles. Many people claim to experience a warm comforting feeling when the needles are inserted. Acupuncture needles are always sterilized and procedures are completely safe.

Research has also been done on the effects of electro-acupuncture. As the name suggests, this technique involves passing a very small electrical current through acupuncture needles. Initial results indicate that those who undergo this technique also benefit from a general feeling of well being and invigoration.

The techniques and the benefits of acupuncture are still a mystery to many people - to the uninitiated, it isn't considered real medicine. However, acupuncture is becoming more and more acceptable - there are an estimated 9,000 practitioners throughout the US and around 15 million Americans have now benefited from this ancient technique.

How can I get over depression without any meds & not feel like it's my fault I feel this way?

Just this year I started taking prescription medication for depression but I would really like to be off them. I'm not really sure if they are working for I see no difference. Everyone who knows says that they don't understand why I need the meds because I seem fine, which in turn only makes me feel horribly worse because now I feel like no one pays any attention to me or my feelings. My husband says I have never been better, but he seems to forget that I am obsessed with on-line shopping and what woman isn't happy when shopping. I stopped taking my pills and I haven't gone to speak to my doctor. I feel fine but I am scared that one day my crying spells will come back. I'll be starting counseling soon and hope that this will help.

First of all, is NOT your fault, is NOT anyone fault. Not everything needs a right or wrong.

And I think counselling helps.

Depression Kids Quotes:

Worry never robs tomorrow of its sorrow it only saps today of its joy. By Leo Buscaglia Find out about Depression Kids

Is Your Child Depressed? These are Red Flags-From Hoffman Estates and Cary, IL

Depression is not just an affliction of adults. Your children or teenagers also may also suffer from it.

You should consider treatment for them when their severely melancholy and sad feelings persist and interfere with their ability to function. This is not a small matter. It has been estimated that approximately 5 percent of children and adolescents suffer from depression at some point in time.

If you have a child under stress who has experienced a significant loss or who has been diagnosed with an attentional, learning or anxiety disorder, you should consider him or her at higher risk for a form of depression that may require treatment.

Depression can also run in families, so be attuned to your familys history. Also, your depressed kids may present symptoms that seem different from those of adults. It is important to be aware of any signs of depression in your kids.

Seek help for your child if one or more of the following signs persist:
Frequent sadness, tearfulness or crying,

Expressions of hopelessness,

Withdrawal from activities; inability to enjoy them,

Persistent feelings of boredom or low energy,

Social isolation, poor communication or manifestations of low self esteem,

Unwarranted expressions of guilt,

Excessive sensitivity to rejection or failure; taking things to personally,

Increased irritability or hostility,

Too many relationship problems,

Persistent malaise or frequent complaints of physical illness, such as headaches, backaches or stomachaches,

Frequent absences, disciplinary problems or poor performance in school,

Poor concentration in school or elsewhere,

Any major change in eating and/or sleeping patterns,
Frequent discussions about or efforts to run away from home,

Expressions of suicide or the frequent occurrence of self destructive behavior.

Also, if your kid used to play often with friends but now spends most of his or her time alone or in solitary pursuits, take note.

Things that were once fun but that now seem to bring little joy to your kid may signal depression. Also, if your child or adolescent is depressed, he or she may talk of wanting to be dead or commit suicide.

Remember, that if your adolescent is depressed, he or she is at an increased risk for suicide and is more likely to abuse alcohol or other drugs in order to feel better.

If your kids or adolescents frequently cause trouble at home or at school, it may be a signal that they may actually be depressed but not be aware of it. Even though your youngster may not always seem sad, his or her troublesome behavior may, in fact, still be a sign of depression.

Early diagnosis and psychological treatment are essential to help depressed kids. Comprehensive treatment often includes professionals from different specialties, individual and family therapy and sometimes the use of antidepressant medication.

For expert help for your kid, locate a psychologist who is experienced in treating children and adolescents.

Great Depression Kids Quotes:

Fear is the needle that pierces us that it may carry a thread to bind us to heaven. By James Hastings Find out about Great Depression Kids

How to Overcome Teenage Depression Anxiety and Stress

Teenage anxiety help is most effective when it comes from within. Teenagers may feel isolated and this is a very difficult state that affects mood, can lead to depression, panic or even phobia. Self-hypnosis is the ideal approach to guide teens with the support they need.

Seeking Assistance

Help for children is readily available but it becomes more complex when kids hit their adolescent years. Hypnosis for children is a great place to start, especially for the very young. This approach helps kids develop a meditative routine that they can use throughout their lives.

Introducing hypnosis to teenagers can be a little more challenging but it is well worth the effort. Teens often feel isolated and they don’t always want to share their thoughts, feelings and experiences with others. Self-hypnosis is ideal because it allows the adolescent to work through his anxiety independently.

Empowerment Through Teenage Anxiety Help

The mind is a vast resource that can accomplish great things if used properly. Self-hypnosis is a fantastic approach that is the perfect teenager help for anxiety because it is empowering. The adolescent is able to use the recordings at his leisure and on his own terms.

The process provides the necessary relaxation that can make the anxiousness and stressful feelings melt away. The teen develops a new self image and improved self esteem and confidence as she has more and more positive experiences. The entire experience is empowering and it is a wonderful exercise for people bridging the gap between childhood and independence.

When to Seek Professional Assistance

Depression is a very serious condition that requires immediate attention. If the teen is experiencing severe feelings of hopelessness combined with a preoccupation with death or suicide, it is imperative that you seek professional intervention.

Self-hypnosis can still be used as a helpful guide but it is always best to make sure that the depressive state is temporary and not due to a disorder. The symptoms of major depression include the dark thoughts about suicide and death along with excessive sleeping or sleeplessness, weight gain or weight loss and a complete disinterest in things that used to bring great joy.

Choosing a Self-Hypnosis CD

Selecting the right recording is of the utmost importance. A professional hypnotherapist who has extensive experience in the field should create the composition. Following are a few suggestions to consider.

You can find support through Duncan McColl’s masterful self-hypnosis recording found here - Teenage Anxiety Help. Duncan is a legendary hypnotherapist who shared his talent with many, offering support for many conditions.

Another excellent selection is by excellent hypnotherapist, Steve G. Jones found here - Teenager Help. Steve’s recording is designed to help teens empower themselves through the strength of their minds. Other stellar recording s are available here - Help For Children. Great Depression Kids <h2>Great Depression Kids Unique Explanation</h2>
has anyone had there kids then thought that they never should have had kids? Does depression cause this feelin?

because i get worried over so much and stress out and think i never should have had them as i can't cope with 5? Even though i have a great hubby? Anyone else ever had this?

im sure a lot of people would find it hard to cope with 5 children and i know some people that have momentarily thought they would be better of without they're children but you do have children and you have to be there for them even though its hard. I would go an see a doctor and just tell him/her how you're feeling he may diagnose you with depression and it can be treated so no need to worry. it doest make you a bad mother you just need some help! good luck x x
