Depression Us Quotes:

" There are two days in the week about which and upon which I never worry... Yesterday and Tomorrow. By Robert Jones Burdette Find out about Depression Us

Living with a demon called depression

Today I'm depressed! He actually started working. Everything was fine. I had been well for weeks, maybe even happy. But something happened. In fact, nothing happened! I been ignored! If someone had insulted me verbally or physically assaulted me, I could have responded immediately, either verbally or physically, but I was ignored and he has played in my mind so I became depressed about it.

Now, you might think "Oh my God, what's wrong, you're not depressed, you sulk like a child two years! And yes, I agree, it's a really stupid thing to become depressed, I know, honestly, I do know that!

But that is often how my depression begins. Something useless, something stupid, which I should be able to ignore or simply ignored, suddenly has a life of its own and takes over my mind and switches off the light of happiness, than to replace with long dark shadows persistent unhappiness, sadness and despair.

Chemical or physical. What is the cause?

If the problem with depression is something chemicals like hormones in the brain, why would it triggered by something as stupid as to be ignored?

If it is a chemical problem surely all depression will happen in his spare time, as if you were watching a movie really funny. One minute you'd be laughing his head off, then the next minute trying to jump out the window and have to end it all.

I have no doubt that there are chemicals involved. All Emotions are chemical by nature. Happiness, sadness, love, lust. They are all made possible by chemicals / hormones in our brain is running at certain times due to external influences, such as seeing a beautiful woman in a short skirt walking by .... POW ... Instant Chemical Lust flood the brain!

If I assume that the "cause" is a combination of physical external influences, which causes an internal reaction that goes on chemicals associated with preparing the body for anything that might happen.

And maybe sometimes it works the other way. Our clock may decide that the internal spring and summer are perfect times to get horny and start looking for this special boy or a girl!

Why does it affect some more than others?

My current struggle of depression has been turned off, I think, just being ignored by a certain person, maybe at some point in time when I felt vulnerable.

Someone else might think I'm just being a wimp. Perhaps they, and perhaps you too would not be the least affected by such an incident. You could if you are a victim of depression, even think that what I feel does not even deserve to be called depression!

You might even think I should rename this article "Living with a demon called Sulking!"

It is a matter of personal opinion.

Whether or not my depression is better or worse than perhaps your depression or someone elses, is not really important. It is certainly no question for me. In my case, I'm depressed and nothing you or anyone else think this will change.

Last night I felt terrible. I mean really bloody awful. I hated the world, I hated the people ... Yes, even you! And I hated myself. I hated myself because that all the things mentioned above.

When you are depressed, or at least when I'm depressed, I start by blaming the person or people, or the event, which I think is the cause of my current depression. But soon after I finished ranting and raving, or sometimes just sitting quietly (as if pouting), I began to reproach myself. I blame myself for not reacting more positively. I blame myself for not speaking my mind. I blame myself for not sticking to myself. I blame myself to put myself in a stupid situation. I blame myself for not learning from similar past events. I blame myself blaming myself and not punch the person responsible for my depression on the nose.

Plus I think I become more depressed. Until very quickly, which was perhaps a very small event triggered a mild depression, becomes much exaggerated in my mind and mild depression spreads like a huge storm dark cloud that stretches over the horizon casting its "shadow on everything I see and know.

Is there a cure?

How do you drag a depression? (Perhaps we should ask the government! :-) ) Well, it is not easy! Today, I dragged myself out of bed early. I went shopping. I not really need something, but I found myself with several packets of biscuits. Now you see I'm a little weight on the weight. But I managed to lose a stone in less than three months, which is great! However, I found that doing something bad, it's a great way distract the mind long enough to clear the clouds of depression. It is not easy, it is not easy by any means, and it may take several packets of biscuits and chocolate chip muffins with large quantities of tea before starting to improve.

I do not recommend everyone, especially if you have a weight problem. If you follow a diet and I think that the consumption of five packets of biscuits can actually make you more depressed, then I suggest you do something else nasty place.

You may find that entering a wooded area, taking off all your clothes, then run, screaming "I hate the world but I love my fat ass!" could well be enough to start emptying your depression.

Always be aware that things will get better!

I know it is not easy. But you must keep in mind that no matter how things seem to be right now, they may not be as bad for ever!

It's something I constantly keep telling myself that when I get depressed, or just a little tired of the world.

Everything is temporary. Even the mountains are reduced over time. Your problems, my problems, the problems of countries, are all temporary.

If there is absolutely nothing you can do now to facilitate your situation, if there is absolutely no action, you can take to relieve your dark feelings, if run naked shouting that you hate the world, but love your fat ass has had no positive effect on you at all .... all you have to do is be patient and wait .... long enough ... and I promise you that whatever the problem is that you have right now .... Cancer limiting or terminal illness to others .... it will pass.

But ofcourse, if is an action you can take, like maybe make an apology to someone, or talk to someone who has upset you, or any action anything that will help solve your current problem, or at least put the issue on the public square so that you can deal with it physically or verbally, and is much better than sitting in a dark room pus on it.

Writing this article has done me good. I do not feel as bad as now, when I started it. I certainly do not feel happy and joyful, yet. But I'm in recovery. And I hope, I really hope that at least one sentence made you smile or give you an idea of how to start your recovery. I'm sorry there is nothing scientifically proven in this article. It's just a load of things in my mind depressed. Maybe I'll read through it in a few days and decides to delete it, I do not know.

So, is there an answer? Depression can be cured without stuffing dangerous sedatives, or eating in FIG destroy cookies? Is it possible to just laugh you out of depression?

I honestly and obviously have no idea. Once the depression leaves me I'll probably be OK for some time to come. I do not suffer from depression regularly. It happens sometimes. Sometimes it does not seem to be a reason for that ... it takes a little more. And then, just as suddenly, it can be passed and I wonder why everyone went.

Maybe I'm a wimp. Perhaps your depressions are much worse than mine. Maybe you thought This article was useless, because it was written by an egocentric, vain, useless, fat, no sulking! Well, for now, I agree with you. But I hope that tomorrow or maybe next week, I do not care what you think, if you have not been helped by a somehow in this case, my depression has been worth it.

Depression Job Quotes:

Worry is interest paid on trouble before it comes due. By William Ralph Inge Find out about Depression Job

A Look at Major Depression

Kinds of depression are different, like different kinds of diabetic or high blood pressure problems. And you may find that you or someone you love sort of fits in more than one category. This is OK. You are not training to become a psychologist. You simply want to understand that depression comes in different forms.

Major Depression

A major depression can come from a single horrible event in your life, or may develop slowly as a result of several personal disappointments and life problems. Some people develop symptoms of a major depression without an obvious life crisis.  In a major depression the combination of symptoms interferes with your ability to work, study, sleep, eat, and enjoy pleasure feelings. This could happen only once but often happens several times during your life.  It is major because it stops your ability to function normally. It is severe and keeps you from living your life. If you suffer from this you feel you just cannot fix things in your life. You want to sleep because when you are awake there is no joy. Its effects can be so great that things like eating, sleeping, or just getting out of bed become almost impossible. You cannot just 'snap out of it' and every day you feel worse. If you get no treatment for this it can last from six to 10 months. It seems to run its course.  But why in the world would you want to live in this horror for one minute longer than you have to?

Symptoms:

-Feeling hopeless and helpless

-Thinking of death or suicide

-No energy, feeling tired all the time

-Irritable and angry outbursts

-Constant worry about physical health

-Drug and/or alcohol abuse

-Difficulty sleeping or sleeping too much

-Waking up very early, not able to get back to sleep

-Feeling guilty about past actions

-Big appetite changes

-Memory problems

-Having problems at work or school

-Sudden emotional outbursts, crying

-Unable to concentrate

-Brooding and going back over problems

-Lack of concern for physical appearance

-Slowness doing any tasks

Remember, these symptoms must be severe and cause real problems for you and eventually cause you to be unable to function at work or home.

Major Depression can be a one time happening a third of the time, but generally two thirds of the people who have this will have a repeat or maybe several. Many times the symptoms disappear for a while and then come back full force.

Here's an example of a woman experiencing a Major Depression:

Susan is 37 and just ended a 5 year relationship. She wonders what has happened to her. She thinks she is just sleep walking through her life.  She cannot sleep well, wakes up at 4:00a.m., and is wide awake, thinking about is wrong with her. When she gets up she feels like she got no sleep at all and is foggy and can't think.  She used to enjoy fixing nice meals and considered herself a good cook. Now she doesn't even like the taste of food and is losing weight fast. She isn't dieting but people ask what plan she is using. There is a man at work who has shown some interest in her but she could care less. She feels she can't concentrate and do her job as a computer input operator and she is making plenty of mistakes. Her boss has been watching her and she knows the group is carrying her. This can last just so long. When she leaves work she just goes home and lies on the couch. On the weekend she sleeps and takes the phone off the hook. She doesn't want to hear from well meaning relatives and friends. They keep telling her to get a grip on herself but she can't.  When she wakes up early in the morning, she thinks about ways she could kill herself. There is no longer anything to live for. She thinks of things she might have done differently when she noticed her partner was showing less interest in her. Maybe she wasn't sexy enough or attractive enough. Maybe she should have suggested some kinky sex. Her partner found a woman who was ten years younger and very beautiful. He said he felt like a young guy around her.  He had told Susan she was getting old looking and needed a total makeover. At the time she laughed it off but now she thinks she made a terrible mistake.  And now there is no going back. She has nothing.

And when you meet Bill, you will hope that you never suffer like this.

Bill was 58 when he lost his job due to a reduction in force after a large bank merger.  He could not believe this had happened because he was always the loyal company man who followed the rules and always did more than he was asked to do. When he was given the news he did not act like it was so horrible because he didn't want to have anyone see him break down. But when he went home and told his wife he began crying and couldn't seem to stop. He found that he could not sleep. He went to see his family doctor who told him it was natural to be upset over losing his job and gave Bill a prescription for sleeping pills.  They seemed to work at first, but when he woke up he felt sluggish and groggy and unable to start searching for another job.  He would sit in his favorite chair with the TV turned on, thinking about how could this have happened to him. He started to wonder why he had ever worked so hard for a company which could so easily throw him out. He had enough years in to get a pension and had made good investments.  They wouldn't starve or be unable to live decently. But to Bill, his job was a very important part of his life.  It was who he was. When his wife wanted to get him out of the house and visit with friends he told her to leave him alone. He didn't need anybody to come around feeling sorry for him.  Within a month Bill had gotten so much worse that he was not taking care of himself, staying in his pajamas all day, and refusing to talk to his wife.  He was continuing to get his prescription for sleeping pills refilled but he wasn't taking them.  He was hoarding them and getting ready to take all of them when he had enough.  There was no way he was going to continue living and feeling that he had been thrown away like garbage. When his wife found the pills he had saved up, she called their doctor.  They arranged for Bill to be admitted to a mental health ward at the hospital.  He was there for three weeks before he turned the corner.

If you or someone you care for is suffering from a Major Depression, you need to know it is something you cannot just 'shake off'. Depression is one of the most easily treatable illnesses in this country and there is no reason to deny or avoid dealing with the problem. Medications and treatment are available and will be discussed later in the book.

Depression and job interviews?

I suffer from depression and take Citalopram 20mg per day.
I also go to counselling on Wednesdays, my appointment being at 4pm (I have to leave the office at 3.15 to get there).
I dont like my current job, so Im thinking of leaving.
I work as a legal secretary if that matters. At the interview when they ask me if I have any medical problems what do I say? If I say oh I need 2 hours off a week then I know I wont get the job, but if I dont say anything then I may not be allowed the time off.

Also my current work makes me take my appointment times as sick leave, therefore I am getting a bad sick leave record. I take 2 1/2 hours sick per week. Can they do this?

Thanks
I cant change my appointment times cos I get my treatment on the NHS so that is the latest time they can offer. I cant afford to pay privately.

To be honest - i wouldn't be honest. Plenty of us suffer depression and none of us tell people. I would keep that to yourself.

As for your regular appointments - i would say it was something else. Only because, no matter what people say, there is a stigma attached to these sorts of things (even though they are so common), and i think it probably would affect your chances of getting the job. I don't know what you would say it was, but i wouldn't say it either until they offer you the job.

Good luck (from someone who suffers with the same thing as you)xx

Depression Jobs Quotes:

They need to worry and betray time with urgencies false and otherwise purely anxious and whiny their souls really won't be at peace unless they can latch on to an established and proven worry and having once found it they assume facial expressions to fit and go with it which is you see unhappiness and all the time it all flies by them and they know it and that too worries them no end. Negotiating a better Salary in a depressed Job Market

Getting a job that you are truly happy with is often about weighing up what you really want out of your employment and then prioritising what is most important to you. Office environment, job description, colleagues, location and benefits are all under consideration when applying for a dream job. However, these things are often seem to become less important when it comes down to the right salary. By far the most important negotiation you will have is your salary negotiation. Here are a few tips and hints to help you receive your full worth in remuneration, despite the current job market.

The first thing to remember is that if you are being offered a position in today’s market, the company must really NEED you and your skill set. Jobs are so few and far between that anyone being offered a position is definitely the best possible candidate. Companies and recruiters alike are being inundated with applications for available vacancies, so they can be as picky as they like when making a job offer. If they have offered you a position, take it as a sign that they have identified you as an asset and tackle your salary negotiation with this in mind.

Keeping the above- mentioned point in mind, it is best not to mention your expected salary until you have actually been offered the role. By doing this you are putting yourself in a position to request the salary you feel is accurate and fair, instead of simply accepting what is offered to you during the interview process, for fear of not being considered further if you don’t. By the time a company has chosen to offer YOU a role, despite loads of competing candidates, they will be more open to salary negotiation if it means avoiding the interview process all over again.

Research is the key to a successful salary negotiation. Browse vacancies online, enquire with recruiters, or even ask friends and family you may have who work in similar industries and roles. It is important that you have a realistic point of comparison when entering into salary negotiations. Firstly, it is important to know market-related salary norms in order to where you stand. This will establish realistic expectations as well as ensuring that you come across as knowledgeable when dealing with a potential employer. Making outlandish salary demands without any supporting evidence or justification will just annoy an employer. Secondly you need to ensure that you know what is required in order for you to be able to support yourself and your family.

If you are at a point where you feel a salary offer is too low, but also can’t afford to run the risk of losing a job offer altogether by pushing salary negotiations, then there is an alternative approach in attempting to meet half way. The best way to tackle a negotiation in this situation is to give a salary offer some time and thought before deciding to accept or decline. Once an offer is made and you feel that the salary offer is too low, ask for a little time to consider everything, making sure to express that the time for additional consideration is due to the salary offering being lower than what you had expected. This will give you the opportunity to gauge how flexible the company is as they may choose to offer more in the interim for fear of you rejecting the offer. If they choose not to offer anymore, you may not be entirely happy with the salary, however you won’t have lost out on an employment opportunity.

A great starting point is using the Internet to search for available vacancies. From legal jobs to finance, banking and marketing, all can be found and researched at one of the many online recruitment websites.

How many people lost their jobs during the great depression?

25% of the Nation's total work force / 12,830,000 people were unemployed.
That is quite a bit.

Depression Recovery Times Quotes:

Only man clogs his happiness with care destroying what is with thoughts of what may be. By John Dryden Find out about Depression Recovery Times

Depression Is No Joke!

People all over the world suffer from depression. several questions always occurs , after tragedy has stroke. Often, family and friends wonder why they didn't notice their loved one was suffering from depression.

Many times if an individual is suffering from depression , they tend to isolate themselves from social activities and social gatherings. They are contend to live alone and keep the pressures of their live to themselves. They are scared to share their inner most thoughts with loved ones , due to being rejected by them.

Depression is no joke. When you can't confront life head on by yourself, people it is time to turn to professional help. Don't let this silent killer take your own life. Everyone has feelings of depression at some point in their lives. A normal healthy individual would bounce back from a mood of depression.

If you experience a feeling of hopelessness; no social life; live in isolation; crying for no reason ; feeling tired all the time; no desire to live and low self esteem, take the time to speak up and get someone to sit down and listen to you. What you learn about yourself , will help you in coping with your life and with understanding others that are suffering just like you, in silence.

It may be helpful to learn to step out of oneself and take criticism as a positive because it leads to self evaluation. Remember , you are always free to reject it , if it is unfair. Realize that you have choices, and the final decision is always in your hands. The best solution for individual's dealing with depression is to recognize that it comes from within oneself. All it sometimes takes, is speaking out and being heard to make oneself realize that one should act upon their inner most feeling in order to survive.

Don't allow a bad experience to harden your heart and send you into a state of depression. Use this experience to become aware and sensitive to others, When individual's suffering from depression consider their behavior, it might be wise to ask oneself, "If you were living with oneself , would you want to stay around"? People that suffer from depression, often don't take the time to experience themselves as others close to them do.

Take depression as a challenge from which you can profit, realizing that the suffers of depression have a greater chance of recovering and becoming a new and better person. Yes, there are medicines that can help in treating depression, but if you can't let go of the depression sufferer inside, recovery will be slow. It is important to remember , that no one is always right. There is no need to be first in everything. There is no need to always want to be in constant control. There is no need to even try to be perfect. If so, you are out to fail. Everyone is not always going to love you. There is no need to be possessive or try to change others for one's benefit. Most of all there is no need to blame yourself for your illness. Depression is an illness. Be aware of your loved ones and remember your depression can be treated. Don't let your loved one's down.

Today there is help to be offered, tomorrow it may be to late.

Would it been better to let the market fix the economy?

If the government had left the market to fix this economic crisis, things would probably have gotten a lot worse. But recovery would have been a lot faster.

The worst thing about the Great Depression was not how bad it was but how long it lasted. Most people can survive some very bad economic times if they don't last very long.

You are correct. It would have been better if the government did nothing and history supports your idea. In 1907, prior to the stock market crash that caused the Great Depression, was another stock market crash that was even worse but the government did nothing and the resulting recession only last 2 years.

The only action that the government could have taken that would have actually helped was the original tarp plan as sold (buy up toxic debts from banks) but Bush instead changed the plan mid way to a simple bailout which failed. The only reason the original tarp plan would have worked is because it would have undone some of the damage caused by the Community Reinvestment Act which was what lead to the sub-prime mortgage crisis.

Depression News Quotes:

I am reminded of the advice of my neighbor. "Never worry about your heart till it stops beating." By E.B. White Find out about Depression News

speak Good News

Speak Good News

Tired of being tired especially when you just finished your vacation? Has life lost its meaning? Waiting for the anti-depressant drugs to start working? Hoping for some good news? Want a change in attitude… try speaking good news today!

When you think about a new baby, a marriage, a new kitten, a good medical report, a promotion, a vacation, an anniversary, a birthday, a new car, a graduation, and or a family reunion? Do the super emotional feelings of giving sharing and love ring a good tone? When you hear these words, how does it make you feel? For most, hearing good news, brings a gift of joy to the heart?

What is it that you normally hear daily? Gasoline prices going up, a divorce, a bad health report, a shooting, a robbery, a bad economy, a job loss, cost of living increasing, a foreclosure, crime, loss of a relative and so many other depressing thoughts that cover the daily newspaper, magazines, and TV. It’s the main topic of conversation and gossip that most everyone is endlessly talking about.

We hear it when we get up, all through the day, while we eat and when we are going to sleep. It’s constant and just never seems to end. In fact, just when you thought how bad could it get, a breaking news story captures your attention. It’s always bad and negative news, and actually more craziness than you care to know. When does it all stop?

When is the last time that you heard any…good news? When is the last time that you heard of a good deed being done for someone else? A heartfelt story that left you welling up a bit, on hearing a great human-interest story that had a live happily they’re after ending? It’s enjoyable to share good news with others.

A parent and child reunited after years of estrangement, a survivor of a serious medical disease, or your best friend’s marriage that was heading to divorce court was miraculously reconciled, and they are living happily as newly weds.

Ever wonder why so many people are so negative in their attitudes, and on a perpetual prescription of anti-depressant drugs? The effects of what they see, read and hear are having a devastating affect on our society today.

Soooo, what’s my point now that I have you stirred up and thinking?

When all this negative news is captured and internalized by the reader, what is their first reaction to it all? Not surprising…better repeat it and tell someone else.

Just suppose…that you didn’t repeat it? I know what you are thinking…

But hear me out, what is the worst that would happen if someone might not know immediately, then what? With all the media coverage, how could one not know?

Besides, there are no such re-reporting awards! Does it make any sense to serve up another heaping portion of bad news to a person that is already on a depression overload? Remind you of some that you may know?

Changes in attitude with good intentions is healthy and a healing medicine.

Try this…Speak Good News. Try it for a day and see the improved results in not only your life, but also in the lives of others around you!

Speak good news? What the heck is that? Where in this crazy world can I ever find some good news to speak? ….Want to learn more about speaking good news?  Please visit my website to satisfy your curiosity. Speak the good news to others, and feel the gift of joy re-enter into your life. Need some joy today?

How can a 4 year old have depression because she can't go to the school of her choice?

On the news today there is a case of a 4 year old who has "depression" because her local school has no room for her, and this is where her friends go. She has to go to a different school. I think the parents must be building this up at home instead of concentrating on being positive about the new school, and the new friends she will make. What do you think?
A doctor on the BBC said that a lot of these cases are caused by the feelings of the parents influencing the children, and that she has had to deal with parents who are trying to use the medical profession to get their children in the schools of their choice...wasting the time of overworked GP's.

I do recognise though that children can suffer from depression. There was a case of a 3 year little boy who saw his Father murdered, and was left alone with the body for days. He didn't speak for months afterwards and was clearly traumatised.

I gather that the parents actually like the school where she is. It is the child who clearly feels isolated and she did look pale and wan on the news. I am not sure it merited to be on the national news though. The press must have been short of material yesterday.

In my career I have met quite a few children who suffered from school refusal symptoms and usually it is because they cannot cope with the circumstances they find themselves in, the tasks they are given, or they are intimidated by classmates.
Parents who cave in are in for a long haul.
The most successful mother I know kept bringing back her daughter to school and refused to let her come home. Eventually the girl did settle in and now she is a highly qualified graduate.
The least successful was the mother who found all sorts of excuses for her daughter, who missed several years of schooling and now moons around at home doing nothing instead of trying to get a job.

Depression Economic Definition Quotes:

Fear is the lengthened shadow of ignorance. By Arnold Glasow Find out about Depression Economic Definition

Surviving an Economic Downturn

The global economic market being sluggish and not likely to get back into shape anytime soon, it only makes sense to live prudishly and economize on expenditures. There are a lot of ways to wade through these financially troubled times. Such economically distressing phases are characterized by a general sense of fear- fear of losing jobs, fear of losing invested money and the like. Here are a few steps to help you get by and survive an economic depression.

Most of the time, we may be physically prepared for a bad phase like an economic depression, for example, have enough savings in the bank; however, very few of us are psychologically prepared for the hard times. Economic depression can also lead to emotional and mental depression as a low economy means restricting many lifestyle activities such as cutting down on impulsive shopping, holidays, and the list goes on. Therefore psychological preparation for an economic depression becomes as important as having some spare cash for a rainy day.

However, psychological preparation may not always be possible. Most times we don’t know what will happen to us the next moment and from that perspective, psychologically preparing ourselves for every imminent catastrophe can be a mentally exhausting exercise. However what we can do is learn how to survive while we experience an economic depression.

There is plenty of support available for individuals wanting to survive troubled times. An experienced psychologist can be a source of relief and help during afflicting times. Keeping our anxieties repressed within us can lead to many physical as well as mental disorders. It is always best to vent out feelings of anguish and talking about your troubles can lift a huge weight off your chest.

When it comes to being ‘money wise’ during an economic recession, always take care not to get into any kind of unnecessary debt. That flashy car that you so covet can wait for a while till things look up or that apartment with a wonderful view that you really want to purchase on a bank loan can also wait for a while. This is definitely not a good time to take loans, unless it is absolutely necessary. If you already have taken one, talk to your bank to fit you into a convenient scheme where the interest rates are lower. On the other hand, one thing good about the recession is the fact that interest rates generally tend to stay low.

Another issue that requires a practical approach during recession times is the problem of unemployment. As long as you have your job, try and not worry about the future and instead practically plan for alternative careers, such as working online. If you do lose your job, don’t panic and concentrate on exploring other avenues and honing skills that you could be good at. Take comfort in the fact that an economic depression does not last for long and being unemployed for a while could actually help you get some time for yourself.

150 million dollars in Sept. For Americans to have that kind of discretionary money, is it an indication that:
A. The economic crisis is being overstated
B. America's definition of an economic crisis is out of touch with reality
C. Obama supporter's are wealthy and not affected by the economic crisis
D. People are giving sacrificially to Obama because they believe passionately in him

I also agree it is C and D. although some wealthy people have been affected, especially if they had a lot of money in the stock market

The Depression News Quotes:

There are people who are always anticipating trouble and in this way they manage to enjoy many sorrows that never really happen to them. By Josh Billings Find out about The Depression News

An Introduction to What is Depression

This book is for the 'Average Joe' in this country who likes information given in an understandable way. You want it kept simple and you don't need to read about all the technical stuff behind the subject. Depression happens to the average Joe all the time and most of us who have it don't get treated for it. That's a shame because depression is one of the most treatable diseases. I hope that if you understand it and know that it isn't something to hide, cover up, or ignore, your can have the power to beat it.

At the very least, 30% of the American population suffer from a depression.  The economic cost is out of sight but the cost in suffering for those who are depressed can never really be counted. Depression can not only destroy persons suffering with it, but everyone around them who cares about them. A serious major depression can ruin a family if left untreated. This is really bad news! The good news is that there is quick treatment and relief available for depression sufferers.   However, the majority of people who get depressed do not get treated. We have now learned that depression is mostly due to a chemical imbalance or mix-up in the brain. These mix-ups can be treated with medications. The medications available now can help you save your life or that of someone you love. Depression is treatable, just like high blood pressure, diabetes, and an ulcer.  It is simply a matter of reaching out for help, getting the right medication, and following directions.  Think of this as like having a car that goes on the blink. You wouldn't ignore trouble signs like an engine light flashing and think you could just keep on driving. You would investigate what was going on, get someone with training to check out your car, and fix whatever went wrong.  Same thing applies if you develop a temperature over 102, are dripping with sweat, and become weaker and weaker. You know something has to be done, and done quickly.  It is exactly the same when you experience depression.  Something is terribly wrong and you must act. I used to tell my new clients to think of themselves coming in to see me for a tune up, not a major overhaul. You won't need the big overhaul if you take action quickly.

How do you know if you have depression?  There are some things that really stand out which can help you decide if a depression is going on.  It involves your mood, your thoughts, your appetite, your sleep, and your feelings of self esteem. It is not just the blahs or the blues. Everybody has a few days or more when they feel down and sad. This is different.  It's not like the normal experience of sadness you have when things go wrong or when you are disappointed and hurt.  This is an emotional pit you've fallen into which affects your family, your job, and your whole life. It's a horrible feeling of hopelessness, of failure, of knowing that there is no way to make things better. You actually do 'drag' yourself along, going through the motions at home and work, thinking that you would rather hide in a cave and avoid everyone.  If you are depressed you cannot just 'get it together', put a smiley face on, square your shoulders, and get a stiff upper lip. No matter how hard you try to lift yourself up, you can't. And it tends to get worse, not better.  If you don't get treatment, this can last for months or even years. Why put yourself through something this awful when the right medication can get you back on track, able to feel better quickly?

There are some facts that will help you agree that it is good to know about depression, understand the symptoms, and get the treatment which will help. Depression is not something that you have made up in your head. It's feeling "down" and "low" and "hopeless" for months at a time.

Depression can affect people at any age, of any race, any ethnic, or any economic group. It doesn't just happen to soft people and is truly an equal opportunity illness. It is not a form of weakness but is a serious health problem, like any other illness. It is not something which should be hidden or anything to be embarrassed about. The names of famous people who have suffered from depression like David Letterman, Mike Wallace, Terry Bradshaw, Wynona Ryder, Delta Burke, Tipper Gore, Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys, and so many more tell us that celebrities who seem to have all the breaks have suffered with depression. Depression is a thief. It comes into your life, steals your energy and self esteem, and whispers to you that you are worthless. It shoves you down deeper into the bottom of the pit where no angels want to go. It can drive you to actually think about suicide, getting it over with, and ending the agony which has made your life pure hell.

This book is intended to help you understand depression by giving you information that you will be able to understand. You will not have to have a Ph.D. to get through these chapters and by the time you have finished, you will know a lot.  After reading this paragraph you won't have to think about 'genetic implications' or such things as 'human leukocyte antigen'. You may even surprise yourself with how much you have learned about depression and how to deal with it. I hope you will feel comfortable reading and rereading chapters that seem to have real meaning for you. You are the reason this book has been written.

How yall good ol boys feel bout that there Bush feller and new regulations of his?

WASHINGTON - The Bush administration Monday proposed the most far-ranging overhaul of the financial regulatory system since the stock market crash of 1929 and the ensuing Great Depression.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080331/ap_on_go_ca_st_pe/fed_overhaul

What's your point? Bush and his administration are trying to do something to help the economy...too bad the liberals in Congress will never allow that to happen. If the evil Republicans managed to fix the economy before November it might cost the demoncrats the election. Just another sad example of how liberal demoncrats are truly looking out for the "common man". BTW ol is spelled ole...if you're going to pretend you're from the south at least get the spelling right.

He who fears he shall suffer already suffers what he fears. By Montaigne Essays1588 Find out about Depression Definition Economic

Poor Socio-economic& Educational Status Trigger Off Depression!

The task of tracking down the causes of depression that might exist in the human society is very exhausting and is however akin to counting grasses in a field. Still, the scientists and doctors are discovering newer and unusual depression causes every now and then. Novel causes of depression are being discovered in the modern world as the life of the modern man has undergone a sea change. Life today is not just about eating, drinking, and living in a comfortable house. A man's trials and tribulations in life don't just end with his fulfilling these elementary needs. He has to work hard to achieve a lot many things. And in the struggle of modern life, it is not unnatural if a man is bothered by obstacles such as depression. However, things can deteriorate if depression is allowed to enter the human psyche. Depression is no lesser than a social evil that gnaws into the very mental and physical well being of an individual.

On many occasions, it happens that people belonging to a particular social strata, or familial background, or professional environment suffer from similar mental complexes. An investigation into the causes of depression in these people will reveal that there is something common in them which is giving rise to depression. In a recent study conducted by Brandeis University, Massachusetts and Cincinnati hospital mental center, depression was found to be a common mental disorder among people with unsatisfactory family income and substandard educational background. The doctors arrived at this conclusion was reached at after examining around 15000 patients.

When the needs and wants of a person exceed his financial capability, what he is likely to undergo is perfectly understandable. This has been further identified to be nothing short of hell! A knowledgeable individual can overcome financial bumps with a bit of luck on his side. However, if along with a poor financial condition, the person is also plagued with a weak educational background, it would be definitely impossible for him to overcome depression. Education is nothing short of a precious jewel; even more is true with regard to this statement. If a person is educationally strong, he can go places. With the aid of education one can overturn the wheels of fortune. In the developed countries like the US and the UK, a weak financial and educational state can be detrimental to the person's ability to earn a living, thus naturally pushing him to the throes of depression.

A poor educational and financial background often thrusts a person towards the lower strata of the society, thus increasing the evil effects of depression on the concerned individual. In a study conducted in the US, was evaluated that depressed patients with the above mentioned conditions easily fall prey to obesity, a medical condition that worsens depression in people. However, sometimes obesity triggers off depression. Regardless of what causes depression, this disorder is thankfully curable in most cases. US, the country that we are talking about, is a country that is at home with the process of buying and selling online. Depression drugs like xanax are marketed online for people who buy drugs and medicines online. Xanax is an antidepressant and hence before one proceeds to buy xanax online, he/she should avail of xanax prescription. Altogether, it is also necessary for people to procure a xanax prescription before moving ahead to buy xanax offline or for that matter, any other anti-depressant.

Is this world in RECESSION or DEPREESION?

There is an old joke among economists that states:

A recession is when your neighbor loses his job.

A depression is when you lose your job.

The difference between the two terms is not very well understood for one simple reason: There is not a universally agreed upon definition. If you ask 100 different economists to define the terms recession and depression, you would get at least 100 different answers.

But have this meaning!

Recession: a period of an economic contraction, sometimes limited in scope or duration.

Depression. a period during which business, employment, and stock-market values decline severely or remain at a very low level of activity.

I think THE ANSWER IS DEPRESSION!
Edit: MH ... Not that much but .............

Now it's a depression here in most of the states leading to an economic meltdown (recession)..other parts of the world have already gone straight into recession no waiting period for them

Alcoholism Statistics: Enlightening Experience For Everyone

Alcoholism is one of the biggest problems in all over the world. Every year, several surveys are conducted to gather the alcoholism statistics. According to the statistical experts, alcoholism is even a worse disease than cancer or aids as it not only spoils the person's physical health but also spoils his/her life as well. Just by reason of massive drinking, a person has to sacrifice his/her family, career and social life. Sometimes, there are the possibilities that a person adopts some wrong ways to gather money for drinking. These wrong ways could be of crime including robbery and theft etc.

There are several types of alcoholism statistics. It might surprise you but it is true, according to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, there are five types of alcoholics. To increase your surprise, the biggest group of alcoholics in the world is young adults. Out of these five types of alcoholics, more than 31.5 come into the group of young adults. This is just a beginning. The next type of alcoholic is even more shocking.

The next type is the young antisocial alcoholics. This group contains all those young people who are in between 25 to 29 years of age and all of them have started drinking alcohol in their young ages. More than half of them are having several types of health hazards that make them fail to perform even normal functions. Many of them have people with drinking habits in their families. A major percentage of these people are also suffering from several types of depression and anxiety.

Besides this, the next category of alcoholics is functional alcoholics. More than half of them also smoke and all of them are belonging to middle age groups group. Surprisingly, all of them are having stable career and families. Around 19 percent or total alcoholics are intermediate familial alcoholics and 9 percent are considered as the chronic server alcoholics. After this, the next type of alcoholics is the server alcoholics. These people are those who will search for treatment for their drinking problems.

Now comes the turn of getting aware of number of men and women consumes alcohol. The results are shocking. Only in the US there are 9.8 million men having drinking problems while on the other hand 3.9 million women are exposed to drinking. According to the surveys, 3 out of 5 families have any particular person with drinking problems. 43 percent of total adults in US are open for drinking. The most shocking alcoholism statistic is that around 8 million children who are under the age of 18 years have an alcoholic parent either father or mother.

In US around 100,000 people lost their lives due to alcohol and 1/3rd of these deaths are committed suicides and accidents like car crashes or drowning. This shows that how an alcoholic person is more open for depression and anxiety. This has made alcohol the third largest cause of preventable deaths. Now, if you speak about the car crashes, around half of car accidents happen due to the alcohol or drunk driving.

Depression Us Statistics Quotes:

If a man harbors any sort of fear it percolates through all thinking damages his personality and makes him a landlord to a ghost. By Lloyd Douglas Find out about Depression Us Statistics

How Illness Can Affect Depression

Illness and Depression

Depression often tags along with another serious illness such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, cancer, Parkinson's Disease and more.  So often doctors will treat the illness but not treat the depression which follows along. This is sad because if you are so dejected and pessimistic about being sick, chances are your recovery won't be the best.

Cancer Can Scare You to Death

Millions of people are living with a current or past diagnosis of cancer. Just the word 'cancer' causes people to panic, become overcome with fear of dying, and think they are forever ruined. There is an immediate fear of death, life plans upset, change in lifestyle, medical bills to face, and a fight to survive.  So often your doctor, your family, friends, and cancer specialists think that it is normal for you to be depressed when you have cancer and don't think it needs to be treated.  But how can you really participate in your treatment plan if you are expecting the worst, and knowing it will happen?

I have sat with people and their families when the diagnosis of cancer is given. The reaction is always disbelief, even if the person was suspecting this to be true. I have held the hand of women who have been told that their husbands have prostate cancer, lung cancer, brain cancer, and many more.  I have sat silent with husbands who have just been given the news that their wife has breast cancer, uterine cancer, pancreatic cancer, and ovarian cancer.  Men tend not to talk but their pain can be felt through the looks on their faces. Cancer scares people and sometimes it scares them to death before their time.

Depression can and should be treated right along with any treatment for cancer. Antidepressant medications are usually well tolerated but there may be some side effects and problems with other medications taken.  It is very important to make it clear to your doctor that you need help for your depression as well as your cancer. It is also very important that if you are the husband, wife, sibling, or child of someone who is dealing with cancer to do the same thing. Please ask your doctor for antidepressant medication if you are suffering with cancer and are depressed.

Depression Can Break Your Heart

People with heart disease tend to suffer from depression more than healthy heart people. Flip that coin and people with depression are at greater risk for getting heart disease. If you have heart disease and are depressed you have a bigger risk of death after a heart attack. After having heart surgery, it's very important to follow through with necessary rehabilitation.  This is more difficult for someone who is depressed. Depression can increase blood pressure and affect clotting.  It can also lead to elevated insulin and cholesterol levels.  It can increase stress hormones, those fight or flight impulses we have when faced with danger. Again, a chemical imbalance in the brain sends the wrong messages to the body. Depression and heart disease are deadly companions and can lead to each other. They are a frightening hand in glove combination.

Despite the real connection between these two dangerous illnesses, depression often goes undiagnosed and untreated. Persons with heart disease, their families and friends, and even their doctors and cardiologists may miss depression's warning signs. And when treatment is given it is often not enough. They think that these feelings just go along with heart disease.  When my husband had emergency open heart surgery, there was never any discussion about depression which went along with heart problems.  I was on top of it and worked to make sure my husband was able to get all the support he needed. Others may not know what to do and they get no help from the doctors.

The impact of depression and heart disease is enormous. Depression is the leading cause of disability and heart disease is by far the leading cause of death in the US. One in three Americans will die of some form of heart disease. So it is very important that we all become aware that depression and heart disease are associated with sickness and death and proper treatment must be given. Newer anti depressants don't have the negative complications that the previous ones did.

Treatment for depression helps you manage heart problems better and have a better quality of life. It should be made very clear to people with heart problems complicated by depression that exercise is one of the best treatments for both.

Treatment for depression helps people manage both diseases, making survival and enjoyment of life possible. Keep your heart and mind safe and sound. Total health is in your future.

Why do you think suicide and depression is more prevalent among men than women?

I've heard of these statistics and was curious to hear some answers on the subject. One theory is that becuase us guys tend to suppress our emotions and feelings all the time and not talk about them, it can eventually lead to negative things like burst of rage, anger, depression, etc. do you think that's plausible?

Please review the citations I have provided for complete objective rigorous discussion.

To address the issue of the higher prevalence of depression in women, please allow me to quote directly from the first citation listed:

"Epidemiological surveys demonstrate that unipolar depression is more common in females than in males. Gender-specific cultural and social factors may contribute to the female preponderance..."

"...Therefore, we conclude that social factors are inducing part of the preponderance of females among depressed cases."

With respect to differences in suicidality, it is widely recognized that in the US females attempt suicide at a higher rate than males, however, men successfully complete suicide at a significantly higher rate. This difference is felt to be on the basis of method employed in suicidality, i.e. females are more prone to use less violent methods to obtain the result, e.g. overdosing on pills with failure to complete suicide versus males being more prone to use more definitive methods in their attempts, e.g. the use of a pistol in order to complete suicide, and they succeed at a higher rate than do women. Please use the second source citation to verify this.
