Institutional Child Care Centers - Its Pros And Cons!

Choosing the appropriate child care centre is something very important. Their childhood must seem very active and happy else they will get into troubles like increased insecurity, excessive demand for attention, separation anxiety and behavioral problems. This will affect them a lot when they enter a grade school. There are many different organizations that come up with day care centers. Hence you have got to choose one from these innumerous options put forth. But with a proper analysis and research it can be done easily. Sometimes doing the trial and error will also help in deciding the best for your child. The one best suiting your child's nature must be chosen.

The most popular ones are the institutional child care in the US. These are open for children in the age group of six and above. They even take care of them in their school years. The expense in these day care centers is moderate when compared to the extremities in private and in home concerns. The cost is in accordance with the age and the period of stay. The fee must be paid every week irrespective of the count of days the child is present. Thus they provide the child with all facilities and teach them all basic lessons and math.

The classrooms are segregated on the basis of age. The classrooms with different age groups of students have one or more staffs as in charge to that particular class. The important factor is the child to staff ratio this goes in accordance with the licensing agreement of state. So it varies for different institutions not exceeding the guidelines. The care time starts before the children arrive and even few hours after they leave. They are fed lunch and breakfast. Play time and time for naps are also provided in the afternoon. Group activities for every age group of children are set for the whole day and there are specific times allotted for field trips, holiday activity and independent play. They are taught potty training and self feeding. For the preschool kids, basic skills like identify colors, letters and shapes, count and write their names.

Sending children to these institutions is beneficial in many aspects. They can easily adjust to the classroom atmosphere after these preschool care centers. They even get the mental strength to bare few situations in the absence of their parents. They get to all sorts of emergencies. The staffs working in such centers are trained to react appropriately to medical emergencies along with psychology and child development. Apart from these there are certain disadvantages also. They lack individual attention due to the large range of class strength and especially for children who badly need such intense care and affection. So such behavioral problems occur and it affects the children.

A good child care centre will let the parents come in and see their job to give them the trust and hope with their organization. Some concerns will also let parents to spend time with their children for the first two or three days. Thus the parents will find their child's comfort in the new atmosphere and can happily leave it to them in their absence. Thus most importantly a good child care centre must be chosen.

Separation anxiety with a nearly 3 year old?

Our son will be 3 next month and has never been watched by anyone other than family. We just joined a gym with a child watch center, and the first time he was fine. Second time, he cried and isolated himself from other kids. Third time, he flipped out, and we had to leave. The childcare attendants aren't giving any advice. How do we ease him into this and make it a better transition for him? He is to start preschool in the fall.

That is actually a very common problem for his age. He understands that you are leaving him and probably is worrying that you may not come back. I used to supervise a YMCA child watch and I can tell you that he will eventually get over it and have a great time. In my experience the best thing to do is to make sure that you explain to him what is going on, tell him "Mommy is going to ______ and I will be back in just a few minutes, this is a safe fun place for you to be and I will be right back to get you." He will probably still flip out, but the best thing for you to do is make the goodbye as SHORT as possible, the longer you linger, the longer he will be dramatic, he will put on a show for you. It would be a good Idea for you to ease him into spending time at the child watch. For instance, make the first visit really short, 5-10 minutes. Explain in to him the car what is going to happen, and when you get to the room, kiss him and make it a quick goodbye. LEAVE. He will be watching to see if you're standing at the door. Be gone for a few minutes and then come back Hug him and tell him what a great job he did. The next time you can do the same thing, but be gone for a little longer, extend how long you are gone over time. This should ease his discomfort a good bit. Another thing to consider is if he seems to connect with any of the staff members, try to make your visits on days that you know he or she will be there. Then when you go, you can tell him that he is going to "play with Miss ______." Or you could see if any of his regular playmates could go at the same time. It is a really good idea to get him comfortable with child watch before he starts preschool. Separation anxiety is a natural part of child development. It usually peaks around age two and should diminish over the next few years. The best thing that you can do for your child is leave him in a safe and fun atmosphere so that he knows that you will always come back. It's a good idea to give him lots of positive reinforcement and tell him how much you love him during this time. This will give him the confidence that you would never leave him for good.

Preschool Separation Anxiety Quotes:

Some patients I see are actually draining into their bodies the diseased thoughts of their minds. By Zacharty Bercovitz Find out about Preschool Separation Anxiety

The Day Care Benefit

You've heard all the nasty rumors about day care. Too many kids and too few caregivers. Lots of sneezing and wheezing. That little guy who's always grabbing your child's toy. Everyone's got a story. But you have to get back to work and you have no choice. What's a good parent to do?

Let's concentrate on the positive. There are plenty of benefits to sending your child to day care. If you consider some of these benefits, it will help you come to terms with your own decision, whether you have a choice or not. Once you understand, you'll feel you're helping your child grow into a well rounded, happy child instead of feeling guilty about sticking him in day care.

Babies need interaction with other children. It's never too early to start engaging your son in activities with other children, whether his own age, toddlers or older children. Learning to interact with other kids prepares your son for his first real school experience. Day care is a gentler environment, there are less rules and more flexibility than strict teachers may impose in school.

Children benefit from day care by learning self-control, how to get along with others, and how to share. They begin to learn all about friendship. Without day care, your daughter only knows you; you are her whole world. How scary would it be to get into school at age four or five and find out that Mom isn't there with her? Children benefit from day care by expanding their world to include people other than their parents.

Separation anxiety will be lessened (or not an issue at all) when your child enters school if she's been in day care. She's already used to being away from you for some time during the day. She's learned how to make new friends and can be content without your undivided attention. The transition from home to school is far less difficult for those who've experienced day care.

In addition to learning socialization skills, your son may also have the opportunity to learn some of the basics such as the alphabet and numbers, and he's always increasing his vocabulary. This pre-preschool learning environment gives your child an understanding of what will be expected of him once he enters kindergarten. He learns to sit and listen, and is able to accept the information that will be thrust upon him in school. He learns the value of teamwork and to respect the opinions and emotions of others. Entering school for the first time is challenging for all children, but those who have been in day care benefit by already having exposure to a classroom-like environment.

Once your daughter enters school, day care can help with homework. Some day care facilities even offer after-school extracurricular activities like scout meetings, dance class, martial arts and on-site gymnastics instruction. Once she is in school her horizons begin to broaden.

As you can see, there are many benefits to placing your child in a licensed, qualified day care situation. And remember that even though your child is away from you for a portion of his day, it is really the parents that make the most difference in his life.

When he gets home from day care after spending a long day away from you, he will be bursting to tell you all about his day. Ask him questions about his friends, his teachers, his subjects. He will share his day with you no matter what his age is, and getting him to vividly describe his day is exciting to a child especially if you show interest. Of course you're interested, aren't you? After all, this child, a mini version of yourself, is taking on the world one day at a time, and the choices and desires he has will be a direct reflection of you. Make the most of that opportunity while you can - children are only children once.

Separation anxiety..? Daycare?

I'll be going back to work the first of May (my little guy will be 11 months). He's a bit of a "Momma's boy" (Daddy's boy too I guess). He's only been around a couple other little babies and is generally fine with strangers as long as he's in either my arms or his Daddy's arms. If he's not in our arms and someone comes up to him quickly, he cries. Sometimes he cries when I leave the room too. I guess I'm just looking for some stories from Moms who have gone back to work and had to leave their little one in daycare. Did your little one cry when you left him? If so, for how long? Are there any ways to help him get over it, or to help prepare him for it now? Thanks Moms!

**EDIT - Yahoo Answers wanted to put this in "Toddler and Preschool"... please tell me my little man is not a toddler yet!! haha He's still my little baby!

lol my little girl is a walking kinda talking 14month old...when shes 5 shell still be my baby!:))) haha

i started my little one in daycare at 9 months and she was fine. by 11 months she was pretty much waving me off while i was standing there like a wreck haha. as shes gotten older she will somedays cling to my legs, cry etc etc but i go in earlier the following day and spend some time with her and then when shes got her bearings i leave. ask your daycare provider if you can do this, it will make you both feel better you and your boy:)

he may cry and scream and want his mom but in my experience as soon the door closes behind me my daughter is fine laughing and playing lol ohi feel so wanted ....haha
