Depression Pregnancy Risks Quotes:

You block your dream when you allow your fear to grow bigger than your faith. By Mary Manin Morrissey Find out about Depression Pregnancy Risks

You're Pregnant. Should You Take Fish Oil In Pregnancy?

It's now quite clear that Omega 3 fatty acids found in fish oil are good for your health. But what about during pregnancy?Should you take Omega 3 during pregnancy?

There's a few questions here. Firstly is fish oil safe to take in pregnancy? Absolutely. There are no documented risks to taking fish oil capsules during pregnancy, for the normal healthy mother.

Secondly, what are the benefits of Omega 3 in pregnancy? This is really 2 questions. What are the benefits to the mother, and what are the benefits to the fetus, or to the infant after birth?

Studies have shown a wide range of benefits to healthy (and unhealthy) adults from taking more Omega 3 fats. The same benefits should apply to any pregnant woman. And more, see below.

But equally importantly what benefits are there to the fetus or the baby, later, from the mother taking fish oil supplements during pregnancy?

Well studies have shown quite a wide range of benefits. About 95% of adults in the US are deficient in DHA, the most important of the Omega 3 fatty acids. You get DHA from fish oil.

There is a high percentage of fats in the brain, primarily DHA. The fetal brain develops, mainly during the third trimester, needing plenty of DHA. During this time it has a high demand for essential fatty acids. And if there is a deficiency this has implications for later brain performance.

Studies have suggested that taking fish oil during pregnancy and thereby boosting the supply of DHA to the fetus can have the following benefits to the fetus:

Improved brain function. Increased ability to concentrate as a child. Improvements in hand/eye coordination. Improvement in the ability to concentrate. Better sleep patterns in infancy. A beneficial, or preventative effect for ADHD. Improvements in visual acuity.

and much more.

And there are also studies that low levels of DHA during pregnancy can lead to an increased risk of need for a cesarean.

That's a pretty impressive list. Lets look at the benefits of taking fish oil capsules during pregnancy to the mother again.

Lower risk of postpartum depression. Reduced risk of breast cancer. Lower risk of developing pre-eclampsia. Reduced risk of a cesarean birth.

Convinced to take fish oil supplements during your pregnancy yet? Remember, around 95% of the population are deficient in Omega 3 essential fatty acids found in fish oil, and that doesn't change when you're pregnant, unless you make it change.

So should you eat fish for your Omega 3 fats? Well that's fine, except that you'd better not eat too much because there are US government agencies like the FDA that tell us not to eat a lot of fish, especially during pregnancy, as it is contaminated with nasty toxins like mercury. So how do you get your DHA in pregnancy? You take fish oil supplements. The good ones aren't contaminated. Not all are good.

What drugs are usually safe to take during pregnancy? Anti-depressants? Ambien? Konopin? Tylenol? etc?

I'm on Wellbutrin, which I know I need to talk to my doctor about before i get pregnant. But I am so afraid that just going off of it will make my depression come back even worse. And with all those hormones swirling around, woohoo!! Also, I have bad allergies and asthma, and chronic insomnia for which I take Ambien for. I presume that I will have to learn how to live without these drugs for awhile? Sometimes they say that the mother taking drugs can sometimes outweigh the risks of going off the drugs. With my history of depression and anxiety, I have a feeling I might be one of those people....but I definitely would not want to cause any harm to my unborn baby. I know I should talk to my doctor, and I will, but I wanted to hear any of your experiences with this kind of situation?

Thanks in advance!

No one one here can give you a safe enough answer. Talk to your doctor. Talk to another doctor too to get another opinion. Talk to your pharmacists, or a variety of them from different stores that have pharmacy's you can contact people at. Get the answers from people who work in that type of field and deal with those important questions. Make a list of medications (perscribed, AND over the counter meds)/foods/mulitvitamins that they tell you are unsafe...a make a list of the ones they tell you are safe. Ask if they have lists already made up.

Anti-depressants are usually a no no. But in some cases they may be nessesary. Don't forget your moods throughout the pregnancy will have an impact on the child. This is something you have to talk to your doctor about, and something you may have to make the best educated choice.

Most drugs have a potential for harm (unless we know for sure otherwise), as we do not know if they cause harm or not....you can't very well test pharmacutical medications on a pregnant women like you can on mice.

Also something else you might want to take into consideration. Keep an eye on the things you eat...as any chemicals contained within the food maybe transfered to the growing child. Breating air in the city (all the exuast, and smog), is very unhealthy for the babe.

Best of luck.

Worry bankrupts the spirit. By Berri Clove Find out about Depression While Pregnant

The Truth About Postpartum Depression

Tom Cruise and Brooke Shields are currently engaged in a battle of words against each other because a type of depression called postpartum depression. Cruise and Brooke debacle started when Tom Cruise openly disapproved of Brooke Shield personal choice of opting to take prescribed medicines to treat her postpartum depression, when he guested at the Today Show. According to Cruise, who is a follower Popular Scientology (who believes that we can be healed by natural means and that taking medication is wrong to our bodies), Brooke Shields would be, opted to treat her postpartum depression by doing healthy exercises. Adding that many people have been misinformed about depression and how to actually treat this common disease.

But what is postpartum depression really? We have heard quite often, but are we really sure we know enough this issue so that we can really understand this disease, so we help ourselves and others? Being pregnant should really be a source of joy for everyone, especially the mother to be, which for nine months, will actually be alive to grow inside her. Unfortunately, there is another side to this joyous occasion, being pregnant means that you and your body will get used to some adjustments that you have pregnancy safely. Tobacco, alcohol, strenuous activities, stress must be avoided at all costs. A healthy baby means having a mother healthy too. But since you were able to successfully avoid all these bad habits to be your baby, childbirth is something quite different, as far as we can try to avoid it, there are still some unfortunate cases where the mother and the child's life could be in danger.

But there are actually more than postpartum depression, actually happens after childbirth. Although quite common and many women have learned how to deal with it and successfully treat it (like Brooke Shields), it is still quite avoidable. postpartum depression is actually a bit like depression, but only new moms are potential victims of this disease. It is indeed possible reasons why many postpartum depression occurs:

The delivery as we all know is not as easy as, real physical constraints of birth is one of the main reasons why postpartum depression occurs. Next trigger postpartum depression is massive changes are hormonal levels. Many mothers-to-be who were hesitant to carry a child are also more susceptible to depression postpartum, those who are not ready for motherhood but is more easily depressed versus happy and excited moms-to-be.

When postpartum depression happens, it's really better to go to the doctor immediately. Apart from obviously having ill-effects for the new mother postpartum depression can be harmful to the child as well. New mothers suffering from postpartum depression may be harboring ill feelings towards their children. They are indeed cases of postpartum depression in which murder has been cited as the reason. The mothers suffering from postpartum depression may blame their children for their weight gain, thus feeling like they have become less attractive and unloved. It is really best to consult a reputable cognitive behavior therapist to take care of your postpartum woes, your therapist may prescribe medication to help to cure postpartum depression, and therapy sessions to help relieve whatever pent emotions that you may have.

Breastfeeding and Depression while Pregnant?

I have been pumping my breasts for milk. I did not pump for a day. My breasts are not as full as they were. The baby just latch on today for about a minute. I also did some pumping today too for about an hour. Are my boobs going to make more milk now or are they going to dry up. I am going through PPD right now, and if they dry up, I will probably have another breakdown. I will feel like I am depriving my baby from milk even though I am bottle feeding as well. When he did latch on, that made me feel really good at the moment, so I am going to try again. I feel that the reason he did not latch is because I missed a day of pumping and lost some milk.

if you pump every day the baby will get info milk that's what boobs are made for if your really afraid he isn't eating info ask his Doctor next appointment you sound fine to me don't look to far into things.

Postpartum Depression Pregnancy Quotes:

You block your dream when you allow your fear to grow bigger than your faith. By Mary Manin Morrissey Find out about Postpartum Depression Pregnancy

You Can Survive Postpartum Depression and Anxiety

Postpartum depression is very different from the "baby blues," a normal period of emotional fluctuation and tearfulness  in the first few weeks following the birth of a child. However, for 10 percent (or more) of new moms, symptoms become worse over time and signficantly interfere with caring for themselves and their new babies.

Here are a few tips to remember when coping with postpartum adjustment issues:

*feelings of anxiety, sadness, or detachment don’t make you mean, crazy, or a bad mother. Pregnancy and the postpartum period are a melting pot of new sensations, emotions, and situations. Even the most well-adjusted woman can experience intense, contradictory thoughts and feelings. These can be caused by the physical challenges of breast feeding, healing from labor and delivery, and the lack of sleep. Changes to your relationship with your family, friends, and partner can also leave a postpartum woman feeling isolated and alone.

*Postpartum Depression/Anxiety can strike  anytime within the first year after the baby is born. Too often women who don't start to feel bad until months after the baby is born delay getting help because they believe (or may be mistakenly told) that postpartum mood disorders only occur immediately after the birth.

*Medications are only one option. There is no perfect solution in regard to taking medication while breastfeeding. Though most research indicates that it will not harm the baby, choosing to take meds while nursing is a highly personal decision. Women should know that starting medication to alleviate symptoms of anxiety and depression does not mean they must stay on that medication forever. When the symptoms have abated, you and your doctor can talk about a time table for weaning from the medication if that seems appropriate.

*Counseling can help provide information, support, and reassurance for woman and their families. Both individual and couples therapy can help pinpoint sources of anxiety and sort out solutions for a better future. Some counselors also provide group therapy for women with postpartum adjustment concerns. These groups can serve as a place to connect with others experiencing the same thing. However, most therapists will require an individual evaluation first to determine a woman's appropriateness for the group.

Anything safe for depression during pregnancy?

I am 18 weeks pregnant and wondering if anyone out there has ever taken antidepressants while pregnant. I have suffered from postpartum depression in the past (after my second child was born) and was put on antidepressants for it then. I came off and have been doing relatively well until I got pregnant for a fourth time. I got pregnant when my third baby was only six months old, so I am not sure if it is a postpartum depression or possibly just a combination of postpartum and being pregnant again so quickly. I am very unsure as to what I can take in terms of antidepressants or natural remedies. I have heard that if I take antidepressants while pregnant my baby will have to go through withdrawal once her or she is born and I don't think I want to do that to my baby, but at the same time right now I feel like I am losing it. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks so much.

Youve got a lack of Iron. Later pregnancies are especially difficult and if its your fourth, you'll need a lot of nutrition. Dont mess with your health. Think of the baby. The fact that you're depressed shows that the body is defecient in something. And if you're thinking of resorting to drugs to treat the mind, dont be silly! You need omega 3, Iron and calcium. B, C. Get one of those multi vites. Exercise is very very important. Watch the weight also. You should not have gained more that 7kg in the first 5 months and a maximum of 11 kg at the point of giving birth. Do it for the child.

Depression Pregnancy Medication Quotes:

" People gather bundles of sticks to build bridges they never cross. By Author Unknown Find out about Depression Pregnancy Medication

Depression

The words "I'm depressed" became very common among many people as an answer to the question about their wellbeing, including the intention for only describing a bad mood or when something goes wrong. Every person feels depressed every once in a while, but feeling of depression and depression illness are two different situations that should be distinguished.

What is the definition of depression?

With science and technology progression, new medications came into the market to treat this difficult problem, which seems to be accelerated by every passing second. Medications have an important role in certain depression cases.

epression isn't an issue that needs to be belittled. Anyone who experienced it can testify how much suffers it involves. Mental suffering can be as worse as any other terrible illness. Moreover, an illness which harms the soul can easily affect the patient's physical condition.

The connection between the physical and mental condition is internalized by many, and every once in a while we hear how different mental conditions can cause serious diseases, even cancer and death.

Definition and diagnosis

Depression is a continuous mental disorder that appears at any age and it is characterized by bad mood, decreased willingness to be active and productive, and also reduction in energy and vitality, social interest and the ability to enjoy life.

Depression is the most common disease among adults, there are several disease levels, starting from light situation to "Major depression", characterized by suicidal thoughts and high risk of self-damaging. "Major depression" exists in about 10-20 precent out of world population, twice as much amidst women in comparison to men. This acute illness requires a professional intervention.

It appears that women have a greater tendency to become ill with depression, and to sink into worries and thought following stress and unease conditions. Furthermore, women sometimes become melancholy due to other people's distress.

Depression is defined according to few parameters. In order to determine a depression there should be at least five parameters, in period of minimum 2-4 weeks.

The difference between feeling depressed and the illness itself is the duration of the depression, whether the person has an ability to extricate oneself out of the depression, and if situation deteriorates until inability to function and to manage a proper life.

The parameters are very extreme:

* Insomnia or oversleeping.
* Extra physical activity or lack of activily.
* Lack of appetite and loss of weight or overeating and gaining weight.
* Decreased ability in some skills, such as: concentration, thought process, decision making.
* Bad mood and nervousness.
* Feeling useless, guilt feelings, self- whipping.
* Decreased sexual desires
* Restlessness, passivity and fatigued.
* Losing interest in life and thoughts of death.

symptoms of Depression

Cognitive symptoms of depression-

Difficulty in paying attention and making decisions, problems with concentrating, thinking, and processing information. Functional symptoms of depression-

Appearance is neglected, looking depressed, unwillingness to do ordinary tasks like going to work, taking care of the children, maintaining the house, lack of strength, and decreased sexual functioning.

Emotional symptoms of depression-

Deep nervousness, pessimism, seeing things darkly, loneliness, anger, tension, despair, hopelessness, disinterest, hatred, self criticism and failure, low self-esteem, anxiety, lack of self belief, feeling guilty.

Physiological symptoms of depression-

Pain in chest area, heavy breathing, fatigue, headaches, backaches. Sleep disruptions and changes in nutrition.

Causes of Depression

* Depression as an expression to psychological factors, self-aggression due to childhood rejection, abuse, very high expectations, pressure, physical and mental violence in childhood, and more.

* Depression as a result to severe event, such as: losing a person or an object, loss of status and reputation, a job, divorce, disability or acute disease, low self esteem, and more.

* Depression as a result of chemical imbalance in the brain, imbalance in the nerve system, hormonal changes like pregnancy, and more.

* Depression as a way of manipulating and controlling others.

* Depression due to physical causes like: diseases, bad nutrition, irregular activity of the thyroid gland, birth, lack of nutritive components, exaggerated alcohol consumption, and more.

A person who suffers from depression doesn't see much ahead, suffer is so terrible that a person only think of the present moment. And in the present moment the only thing who matters is that the depression would disappear, that life will be back on track, and that suffering will end quickly.

A doctor should be consulted with; a naturopathy treatment is advised along with depression contradictory medications. Naturopathy treatment can increase medication effectiveness, prevent side effects, help the body to keep the fragile balance and even prevent the use of high dosage of medications.

It is certainly recommended to allow the body to treat the problem naturally. There is so much to do, so many ways to tune the body back in balance and heal it. Depression is only a symptom, it is a sign that something went out of balance, and it is the way that the body tells us that it deals with something.

Postpartum Depression: Making Sure You Don't Get The Blues

Postpartum depression is likewise known as postnatal depression. This is a condition encountered by women after giving birth. Studies show a rate of 5 percent to 20 percent of women affected by this condition. Such complications usually occur within the fist few months after childbirth. The condition is indicated by having the feeling of extreme sadness and having other related psychological disturbances after giving birth to the baby. Here are some more facts about postpartum depression:

Women suffering from postpartum depression will be extremely sad, will cry a lot, will be moody and very irritable, will lose interest in most of her normal daily activities including taking care of the newborn
Women who have had a history of depression prior to pregnancy are more likely to go into postpartum depression
Treating postpartum depression may include the combination of using antidepressant medications and some forms of counseling

Having the Baby Blues

Having the baby or maternity blues is a mild condition suffered by 80 percent of postnatal women. Women suffering from this usually feel sad or lonely. This condition persists for a few hours or days after birth. However, it should be note that maternity blues is not the same as postnatal depression, as most people believe, and not its precursor. The former may last only for days and will be gone in a couple of weeks, while the latter may last for weeks or months.

Risks of Postpartum Depression

There are different risks particularly identified due to postnatal depression. They are as follows:
Because of the physical and emotional state of the mother, she will choose to have her baby formula-fed instead of breastfed, something that will put the baby at a big health disadvantage.
The depression spells will usually cause unwanted tension over the other members of the family.
The psychological and emotional state of the mother may lead to cigarette smoking, which obviously is hazardous to her and the baby’s health.
The depression will trigger poor marital relationships when the feeling of sadness or loneliness is felt most over the members of the family, especially her partner whom she feels is mistreating her.
Postpartum depression may lead to feelings of desperation over sexual activities to lessen the feeling of sadness or guilt with the current childbirth.

Treatment of Postpartum Depression

several scientific studies support the notion that postnatal depression should be treated through application of various methods. Treatment should consider the factors that triggered the problem, and these treatment methods may include increase of partner support, additional help with childcare, and similar many others.

Women need prior attention when symptoms of depression appear. On the list bellow includes some of the various treatment options available for these women:

The mother should undergo medical evaluation to rule out other physiological problems
The mother may undergo cognitive behavioral therapy, also known as psychotherapy
Possible medication may be advised by her doctor
Support groups that may include friends and family members and other women who are undergoing the same problem
Home visits/home visitors
Having a healthy diet and lifestyle in general
Getting consistent and healthy sleep patterns

how can someone recover from postpartum depression/psychosis?

If a woman suffers from severe postpartum depression or postpartum psychosis, are there things she can do to treat herself and recover on her own (without prescription medication like antidepressants)? For example, is there any evidence that marijuana can be used to treat postpartum depression? What about meditation or diet?

"severe postpartum depression or postpartum psychosis"

Recovery from severe depression and postpartum psychosis seldom happens without equally serious medication ... prescription anti-depressants and careful monitoring and counseling.

The ability of the depressed person to function well enough to actually do meditation and make diet changes is just not there. After some time on anti-depressants, the chances of being able to exercise, eat right and meditate increases.

Sait John's Wort, which is quite useful for mild depression, doesn't work well enough on severe depression.

Marijuana has no significant, clinically observed anti-depressant effects. It's a mild anti-anxiety drug.

panic is a sudden desertion of us and a going over to the enemy of our imagination. By Christian Nevell Bovee Find out about Postpartum Depression Zoloft

Postpartum Depression – Causes, symptoms and Treatment

Causes of Postpartum Depression

The exact causes of postpartum depression are unknown, but rapid hormonal changes that accompany pregnancy and delivery may trigger depression. Levels of the hormones estrogen, progesterone, and cortisol fall dramatically within 48 hours after delivery. Women who go on to develop postpartum depression may be more sensitive to these hormonal changes. Postpartum depression (PPD) is a condition that describes a range of physical and emotional changes that many mothers can have after having a baby.

After Pregnancy

Depression after pregnancy is called postpartum depression or peripartum depression. After pregnancy, hormonal changes in a woman's body may trigger symptoms of depression. During pregnancy, the amount of two female hormones, estrogen and progesterone, in a woman's body increases greatly. In the first 24 hours after childbirth, the amount of these hormones rapidly drops back down to their normal non-pregnant levels. Researchers think the fast change in hormone levels may lead to depression, just as smaller changes in hormones can affect a woman's moods before she gets her menstrual period.

Marital/Self-esteem Causes

Marital dissatisfaction is not only a risk factor but may also be a cause for PPD. Mothers who are closer to their spouses/partners are less likely to develop PPD. Some research shows that receiving a daily massage from their partner dramatically reduced the incidence of PPD for some mothers. So clearly a poor marital relationship can play a role in PPD, while a good marital relationship appears to reduce PPD symptoms.

Symptoms

If any of the following symptoms endure for more than two weeks after childbirth, women should seek medical attention:

feelings of anxiety, guilt, sadness, worthlessness, restlessness or irritability

Sleep disturbances

Lack of interest in social or other activities you previously enjoyed

Lack of feeling or feelings of resentment, anger or fear about motherhood, your partner or your child

The symptoms can range from mild depression to a severe depression with thoughts of ending one's life (suicide). The disorder should be suspected during its peak (four to six weeks after delivery) in a patient who demonstrates signs and symptoms of clinical depression (feelings of worthlessness and hopelessness, changes in eating and sleeping patterns, irritability, difficulty with motivation, and difficulty getting out of bed in the morning). Additionally, patients may be emotionally detached from the infant and unable to display loving affection towards family members.

Treatment

Psychotherapy for the woman and her family can be very helpful in enhancing coping skills, educating them on caring for a newborn, and providing support. SSRIs are secreted into breast milk, however, in varying amounts. Some studies indicate that paroxetine secretes the least amount of medication into breast milk. Breast-feeding women considering taking an antidepressant should discuss medication choices with their doctor. SSRIs can be given two to three weeks before delivery to patients who had a previous episode to avoid recurrence. Some SSRIs include: fluoxetine(Prozac), paroxetine (Paxil), sertraline(Zoloft), and citalopram(Celexa).

Medical Treatment

Treatment for postpartum depression depends on the form and how severe it is.

Your health care provider may refer you for psychological help and individual or group therapy.

Support groups are helpful.

Marriage counseling may be part of your treatment plan.

It's important for friends and family to understand the illness so they can help.

zoloft????

I'm 24 years old and I've been on zoloft for about 4 days now for postpartum anxiety/depression. I feel that the medicine is already helping my anxiety, but I've been having terrible side effects such as being really tired, nauseous, headaches and sometimes i feel like my whole body aches, and i seem to be sweating more. Are these side effects common while taking zoloft? When should they go away?

I have been on zoloft for about 4 years, and it does make you tired at first. Once your body adjusts to the medication, that will wear off. It took me a while - maybe a month or so to feel back to normal - energy does return. I started at 25 mg first week, then 50mg. I had the dosage increased for a short period of time, and immediately felt tired from it. The sweating could be related to it - but I have found some night-sweats to be a side effect. They are infrequent, but they do occur. Everyone has different side effects, but I have found the drug to be a life saver. If you are noticing less anxiety, I would think you are on your way to feeling back to normal soon. Best of luck to you!

Dealing with the Realities of Postpartum Depression

Being pregnant can be one of the most happiest moments in life that a woman could ever have. It is a time for new beginnings, a time of change, a season of growth for her and the entire family. Pregnancy and the sweet anticipation of having a baby can really help improve the family's relationship. The wait for the arrival of the new baby puts the entire family in a good mood of expectation. In the process, the family members feel closer to one another.

During this trying stage of a woman, she constantly feels and experiences different thoughts and feelings about her pregnancy and her baby. Sometimes, she can feel good and bright about life. On some days, she can be so depressed and irritable. This sudden shift of feelings can be considered normal for other women, but it can be disturbing not only on the part of the new mothe but also to the rest of the family if these episodes of sadness go on for long periods of time.

After giving birth, a woman can experience a thousand thoughts about the baby, whether good or bad. This is what others call the "baby blues" --- a point in a woman's life, usually right after childbirth, when she feels heightened emotions concerning their baby. This state can be felt by the woman three to five days after delivery and can last for up to two more weeks, or perhaps even longer. At this point, the woman experiencing "baby blues" may cry more easily than usual, may have trouble falling asleep or can feel irritable, or she can be so sad and always "on the edge" emotionally. Since "baby blues" are experienced is very common and is almost always expected of every first-time mother, it is generally not considered to be an illness.  In most cases, the depression does not interfere with the woman's ability to care for her baby.

However, some women may experience these heightened state of emotions by having postpartum depression, a type of depression that also occurs after childbirth. Also called postpartum non-psychotic depression, this condition affects about ten to twenty percent of women, mostly within a few months of delivery. If a woman is experiencing  postpartum depression, she may exhibit any of the following symptoms:
l    depressed mood
l    easily provoked to tears
l    have trouble falling asleep
l    poor appetite
l    failure to enjoy pleasurable activities
l    feelings of inadequacy as a parent
l    impaired concentration
l    suicidal thoughts.

These symptoms can be seen in a woman if she acts differently towards herself and her baby as well. Having this type of depression includes risk factors such as previous major depression, psychosocial stress, previous premenstrual dysphoric disorder, and inadequate social support.

If a woman has postpartum depression, they may worry a lot when it comes to their baby, particularly regarding the baby's health and well-being. On very rare cases, women with this form of severe depression may harbor negative and harmful thoughts about their baby. This type of depression can interfere with the woman's ability to take care of the baby, and it can even come to a point where suicidal thoughts occur.

A big part of preventive care for postpartum depression entails becoming fully informed about the risk factors and effects of pregnancy and childbirth. Regular consultation with the obstetrician-gynecologist would also allow the new mother to get information about the numerous physical, chemical or hormonal changes that will come as a result of pregnancy and childbirth.

Doctors will always play a key role in identifying and treating this type of depression. Women should be screened by their physician to determine if they are at risk for acquiring postpartum depression, since this can give them a chance to prepare themselves for their childbirth at the physical, emotional, and mental levels.

Depression And Pregnancy Quotes:

They need to worry and betray time with urgencies false and otherwise purely anxious and whiny their souls really won't be at peace unless they can latch on to an established and proven worry and having once found it they assume facial expressions to fit and go with it which is you see unhappiness and all the time it all flies by them and they know it and that too worries them no end. By Jack Kerouac Find out about Depression And Pregnancy

Stay Away From Depression in Your Pregnancy Period!

A mental disorder like depression is not only detrimental to the mental and physical health of the patient but also serves to be a dampener and a cause of major worry to the people around the patient. Depression contaminates the whole environment around the patient and this is one major reason why the sufferer finds the whole world around him very low on energy. He develops a pessimistic attitude towards the world around him and his surroundings only assume the shades of black and grey. All the colors fade away and life ceases to be enjoyable for him.

The good news, however, is that depression is a perfectly curable disease. Though depression is not a normal mental condition, still it is one of those ailments that are not considered to be unnatural. It can be well compared to the seasonal cold and fever. The fact that depression refers to a mental condition, it can be considered to be a bit serious. So, in case, a person is diagnosed with depression, one should not think of it as an unfortunate happening. The twists and turns of life can land a person in depression, but this does not mean that the patient can't fight back. With medical science improving at a rapid rate, beating depression is not a tough task. However, it is of utmost importance that the depressive symptoms are recognized at an early date for effective treatment. In the initial stages, depression is not a matter of worry. Overlooking the symptoms that delay depression cure actually multiplies the impact of depression on people.

In a physically fit human being, depression does not pose a serious threat in the initial stages. And in some cases, depression has also been tackled very well even in the later stages. However, in certain stages of life, even a trace of depression can be a matter of worry. Pregnancy is one such condition. Pregnancy is a highly complex state of life when a woman has two lives to take care of. Pregnancy is also one of the most important stages of a woman's life. She undergoes a lot of transformation during pregnancy- both physical and mental. Normally, pregnancy is not only a source of great joy to the woman but also to her family members. Unfortunately, in some cases, pregnancy brings with it a trial of pain and unhappiness; sometimes even when the external conditions seem to be quite normal. However, let me tell you that depression in pregnancy should be avoided at all costs. Depression is not only lethal to the pregnant woman but also to her unborn child. Though it sounds surprising, recent studies have yielded that children born to mothers who suffer from depression, especially in the first three months of pregnancy, might fall prey to schizophrenia in their grown-up years. Depression in pregnancy is a very tricky issue as it cannot be easily treated with the help of anti-depressants like xanax. Xanax, or for that matter, any other antidepressant possess side- effects and as such they are to be avoided by women during pregnancy. But, in other cases, anti-depressants are quite effective and are sold on prescription only. The antidepressant that I have mentioned earlier can also be bought online. When you buy xanax online, the prescription can also be attained online from the doctor of that particular online pharmacy. It is worth-mentioning that xanax benefits are numerous and they would suitably rescue you from the clutches of depression and anxiety. It is imperative for you to emphasize on the prescription when you buy xanax. In this way, you can offer suitable assistance to curb on illegal marketing of xanax and altogether you would be able to stop xanax misuse.

Can depression during pregnancy affect baby?

I am 22, this is my second pregnancy, my first son died when I was 35 weeks pregnant. Now I have another healthy and wonderful baby growing inside me, but I find myself always worrying and concerned something is wrong. I think I am depressed. I cry and can't stop sometimes, and I am wondering what this is doing to my 18 week old baby. Can my crying uncontrollably hurt my baby?

Crying uncontrollably can not hurt the baby. There is a lot of cushioning in there. But being depressed isn't good for you. I would suggest you go see your doctor and ask to be put on anti depressants. They will help. I am sooo sorry for you loss. Good luck you will be in my prayers.

Depression Pregnancy Zoloft Quotes:

There are more things Lucilius that frighten us than injure us and we suffer more in imagination than in reality. By Seneca Find out about Depression Pregnancy Zoloft

Depression - symptoms, Causes and Treatment Options

Depression is a complex of psychological and physical symptoms. Low mood level or sadness is often the most prominent symptom. The common property of these symptoms is a decreased activity level in parts of the brain.

THE SYMPTOMS OF DEPRESSION

Depression may give one or more of these symptoms:

-Low mood level or sadness.

-Lack of joy or interest in activities that were joyful before.

-Pessimism.

-Feel of guilt of something without any substantial reason to feel so.

-Inferiority thoughts.

-Irritability.

-Slowness in the thought process.

-Slowness in interpreting sensorial stimuli.

-Slowness of digestion or other internal physical processes, and symptoms caused by this slowness, for example inflated stomach, constipation or difficulties by urination.

-Slow physical reactions.

Depression can be a mild disease that only causes some annoyance in the daily life, but can also get very serious and make a person totally unable to work and unable to participate in social life. By depression of some severity, there is also a greater risk of suicide.

Depression can occur in all age classes. In teenager’s lack of interest in school work, withdrawal from social life and difficult mood can be signs of depression.

THE PHYSIOLOGICAL CHANGES THAT PRODUCE THE SYMPTOMS

By depression there is a decreased amount of neurotransmitters in parts of the central nervous system, mainly deficiency of serotonin, but also to some extend of noradrenalin, acetylcholine, dopamine or gamma-amino-butyric acid (GABA), or the nerve cells do not react properly by stimulation from neurotransmitters. A neurotransmitter is a signal substance that transmits the nerve signal through the junctions between two nerve cells.

Serotonin and noradrenalin cause nerve cells to send impulses along to other nerve cells, and thus increase the activity in the brain. Deficiency of these substances causes slowness in parts of the brain, and that again causes the depressive symptoms.

The role of GABA is the opposite, namely to slow down some nerve impulses, mainly those causing anxiety and panic response. Lack of GABA causes higher anxiety and easier panic response. Yet, lack of this transmitter also seems to cause depressive symptoms. This is because a too high activity in some brain processes may slow down other processes.

There are many causes and subtypes of depression with different physiological mechanisms involved.

TYPES OF DEPRESSION

Depression is often divided into subtypes according to exhibited symptoms.

1. Mono-polar depression and dysthymic disorder

By mono-polar depression there are pure depressive symptoms. Mild cases of mono-polar disorder that do not affect a person’s ability to work and to participate in social activities are often called dysthymic disorder.

2. Bipolar disorder (manic-depressive disease) and cyclothymic disorder

In this condition there are periods with symptoms of depression - the depressive phase, alternating with periods of elevated mood level with increased mental and physical activity - the manic phase. In the manic phase, the affected person also sleeps poorly and has concentration difficulties. A mild form of this disease is called cyclothymic disorder.

3. Manic disorder

This condition is characterized by abnormally elevated mood, by unrealistic optimism, by lack of sleep and by hyperactive behaviour. Many psychiatrists think that this disorder is simply the same disease as bipolar disorder where the depressive face has not yet occurred.

4. Depression with mainly physical symptoms

Sometimes the physical symptoms of depression are alone or dominant, as for example: Digestive problems, constipation, difficulties with urination, slow response to sensorial stimuli or slow physical reactions.

CAUSES OF DEPRESSION

Two or more factors can have an effect simultaneously to cause depression. Depression can be an independent disease, or a part of other disease. Depression is also divided into different subtypes according to cause.

1. Reactive depression

This disease is simply a result from psychological stress, physical struggle or mental straining without proper rest or sleep over a long time period. The straining will simply wear out the nervous system or deplete the organism from nutrient necessary for the nervous system to work properly.

2. Endogenous depression

When there has not been any period of stress, straining or lack of rest that can explain the condition, the condition is often called endogenous depression. Inheritance is thought to be a part of the cause.

3. Depression by physical disease

Depression or depressive symptoms may be a symptom of physical disease. This is perhaps the most common cause of depression.

Diseases often associated with depression are: heart disease, Parkinson's disease, stroke, hypertension or Cushing's syndrome.

Mononucleosis or flu may trigger depression that continues after the infection has gone.

By lack of thyroid hormones, hypothyroidism, the metabolism in the whole body is slowed down, including the production of neurotransmitters in the brain. Therefore depression is an important symptom of hypothyroidism.

4. Depressive symptoms as a consequence of unsound lifestyle

A general unsound lifestyle with too less exercise, too high consunsume of alcohol, coffee or tea, too less of important nutrient and too much of sugar and fat may give depressive symptoms, as well as physical problems.

5. Postnatal depression

Women will often have a period of depression after pregnancy and birth of the baby Pregnancy and berth is physically and mentally exhausting, and may drain the body for nutrient. This in turn can cause depressive symptoms

.

6. Seasonal affective disorder

Depression can occur in cold and dark periods of the year and go away in warm and light periods. Light stimulates brain activity, and lack of light is a causative factor.

TREATMENT OF DEPRESSION

Serious or prolonged depression is often treated with anti-depressive medication. Medicines used against depression generally increase the level of neurotransmitters like serotonin in the central nervous system, or they mimic the neurotransmitters.

The medications mostly used today increase the serotonin concentration by decreasing the removal of serotonin from the space around nerve cells. Examples of this medication type are: Fluoxetine (Prozac), fluvoxamine (Luvox), paroxetine (Paxil), escitalopram (Lexapro, Celexa), sentraline (zoloft).

By bipolar disorder in the manic face, heavy tranquilizers (neuroleptica) are used to stop the manic symptoms. By bipolar disorder, lithium salts are sometimes used to stabilize the condition, and prevent new outbreak of depressive or manic faces.

Psychotherapy is sometimes used by depression, usually in combination with medication.

Sometimes serious depression is treated by applying electric shock through the head, electroconvulsive therapy. The shock induces epileptic eruption of nerve signals through the brain and this gives cramps throughout the body. The cramps are alleviated or stopped by applying anaesthesia before the electroshock. This form of treatment is controversial, since it can cause memory loss and is suspected of causing brain damage. The possibility of brain damage is however denied by most psychiatrists.

By seasonal depression, light therapy maybe useful.

- Some physical exercise.

- Meditation.

- Supplement of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, lecithin, amino acids and essential fatty acids.

- Stimulants like coffee or tea may help against depressive feelings in moderate amount. However, if you are a heavy user of these stimulants, you should cut down on your consumption.

There exist nutritional products in the marked to help against depressive symptoms. These contain ingredients that the brain uses as building blocks for neurotransmitters, for example amino acids and lecithin. They also often contain vitamins and minerals that the brain uses as tools to produce neurotransmitters, especially vitamin B6.

How do I deal with depression during pregnancy?

Late last year I had frequent periods due to stress caused by family , planning a wedding & work. When I called the clinic the nurse told me to see a Doctor ASAP.I went to the Dr. Dr. prescribed me Provera for 10 days. I went into deep depression due to bad side effects. I couldn't eat all day, I got really scared of everything (even public places), I thought I was possed by the devil, I had irrational thoughts,I threw up alot & I was suisidal. I told mom about it. She made me feel like a bad aweful person. She said I won't be a good wife & a mom. I went to the Dr. again to get rid of my side effects of provera. Dr. gave me Zoloft because I asked for it & Zanex. I took small doze but developed more side effects like irrational thoughts. I am off the meds as soon as I got married 4 months ago. Now I am preg & still have bad thoughts. I was normal before I took any meds. My husband is so wonderful & I am sad to put him through this. Dr. says I should go on meds. But I don't want to.

I would just look for some support... if the meds did you that amount of damage then try to stay off them. I was recommended someone for support when I started to get depressed in my pregnancy. Your emotions are much more sensible so you will go through a lot of quick ups and downs.
