5 Ways to Beat Depression
Whether it’s because of the cold weather or you just broke up with your girlfriend, depression can happen to anyone. There is nothing worse than bombarding yourself with constant negative thoughts and feeling completely worthless and hopeless. If this sounds like you and it’s been over a week, you may want to consult your doctor. But if you’re just in a little rut, there are certainly a few ways to improve your mood. Just check out my suggestions below.
1. Read a good book. This is an easy and enjoyable way to beat the blues. Reading a good book can completely transport you from your situation to exciting adventures or far off lands. Make sure your book shelf is filled with feel good books that you love. Whenever you’re feeling particularly down, pick one up and lose yourself in the words.
2. Skip a night’s sleep. This may sound counterproductive, but skipping a night of sleep can actually dramatically improve your mood. It’s one of the fastest ways to beat depression. The reason why hasn’t been pin pointed as of yet, but next time you’re feeling particularly down, pull an all-nighter. Just don’t make it a habit because quality sleep is important for good mental health.
3. Have a glass of wine. I don’t mean a whole bottle, just a glass. Assuming you don’t drink your sorrows away on a regular basis, having a little bit of alcohol can give you a temporary mood boost, especially if you do it with some friends. Go out and have a good time, you deserve it.
4. Distract yourself. You can either throw yourself into work or do something you love. This will distract you from your depression and it will also be productive. So catch up on all of that paper work you’ve been avoiding, listen to some uplifting music or install a new exhaust in your car. After you’ve busy for a few hours, you’ll be surprised at how much better you feel when you reflect back on your situation.
It just few weeks ago that summer is over. But the light day has gone much shorter and it rains much often. I’m a summer kindof girl, born in the south of the country, I don’t like cold seasons at all. So the change of the season is a hard time for me. Last week I felt bad, hopeless and anxious. I didn’t have energy for anything and was oversleeping. I also found that I’m not interested in the things I usually enjoy. I didn’t want to do anything about Educopark or any other of my projects that usually bring me a great joy. I also had to pull myself together for concentrating and processing information.
Something just went wrong with my spirit and body. If you experience any of these symptoms, especially on a seasonal basis, you are as well as me probably a minor victim of seasonal affective disorder. But fortunately there are dozens of natural ways to beat a seasonal depression. So I decided to make a plan on how to increase my spirit.
Step 1 I Decided That This is a Great Time to Take Care of Myself
Changing my day schedule devoting more free time to myself is a great way out of seasonal depression. It is good for your body, as after an active summer your body also needs time to get use to a new season. I started from a hair cut to renew my hair and a new body lotion as my skin was a little bit dried by the summer sun. I also decided to visit solarium. Scientists proved it is a good replacer of the natural sunlights which stimulate your body to produce serotonin. I do not have enough money to allow myself visit SPA salons, so I decided to create the one for myself at home. It is easy to do. There is a lot of bath products with natural and herb ingredients. So one of the evening I devoted to taking a bath with roses leaves and other relaxing herbs. I was awesome.
Step 2 I Stay Physically Active
Feeling sleeplees at work especially in the first half of the day made me to seek for options on how to make my body wake up. I have chosen dance classes. I visited a Dance Mix class after work and I enjoyed it tremendously. Fast and energizing music and smiling girls made me smile too. Don’t worry if you don’t have any experience in dances, you are not going to fight for a gold prise, just enjoy yourself and your body. I was laughing at myself seeing how funny I move in the mirror. Today I’m going to take a Strip Dance class, which is really great for muscle work out and also makes you feel sexy. Try to walk outdoors every day. Exercise and dances is a great combination for elevating your spirits.
Step 3 I Absorb More Sunlight and Open Myself for Cultural Events
Feeling the light day is getting shorter and shorter, I decided to catch as more sunlight as possible. As it is not so cold yet, it is pretty nice to spent an hour or two walking around the park or visiting the places I’ve never been too. Spending more time outdoor will give you a considerable surplus of the energy. Autumn also a great time to visit cultural event, as this is exactly the time when theatre season is started. I found out that there is a great number of cultural event going in the city. I put in my day list to visit some of them. I also promised myself to buy a opera or balley tickets, as I have never did it before. Who knows, maybe I liked it afterwards.
Step 4 I Do Things I Enjoy
Moist autumn evening when one prefers to stay at home is a great time for re-reading the favourite book or watching a favourite movie. A few days ago I watched Step Up 2 and Dirty Dances. I loved these movies. After watching it I decided to take dance classes and I did. Soon I’ll be as good at dancing as these guys. The recipe is simple, find the thing you haven’t done for a long time or have never done before (but loved to) and do it. It will surely raise your spirit.
Step 5 I Stay Connected
Being in a bad mood makes you want to stay alone instead of meeting old friends or making new connections, but in reality this is not the best time to do so. Loneliness can only make you feel more depressed. So don’t close up. Take invitations from your friends or organize a party yourself. Tomorrow I will visit the Birthday Party of my beloved man, who is turning two. He is cute and I loved him a lot, though he couldn’t even pronounce my name yet.
Step 6 I Train Myself to Be Positive
If you focus too much on what’s wrong in your life, your brain can get stuck in a “negative” rut. Fortunately, with just a little effort, you can condition your brain to balance your moods and overcome seasonal depression. I decided to create a daily “gratitude list”, as a way out. Every day, I take a minute or two to make a conscious effort to name things in my life I’m grateful for: my family, my cat, my warm bed, a hot shower, yellow trees, music, coffee, and so on. Every time you do it, you condition your brain for appreciation and happiness.
Step 7 I’m Trying to Be Kind to Others
I heard a story when a customer in the drive-thru line at a Pittsburgh-area Starbucks paid for the coffee of the customer behind her. That customer was so pleased that she then paid for person behind her. The chain continued for two hours! I haven’t done something of that kind yet, but I will try soon. The easy thing to do is smile to smile at someone on the street, hold a door open or talk to a neighbour you never talked before.
Step 8 I Laugh Every Day
Laughter is recharges your battery. There are all kinds of studies showing how good laughter is for your brain, your health and your immune system. It’s good for your mood, your immune system, and holiday depression. To overcome seasonal depression, find a reason to laugh every day — all the better if you can find the humor in your relatives’ annoying habits or the little things that usually stress you out!
Step 9 I Eat and Drink What I like
Maybe it is not the healthiest step, but it definitely works. Chocolates and other sweets is a good way to raise your spirit as they also contribute to serotonin production. Eat more seafood if possible. It is a great source of energy. As for the drinks, it is so nice to warm up after the cold and moist autumn day with a glass of mulled wine. It is easy to prepare. Take a bottle of dry red wine, start warming it up, add some honey, cinnamon and orange or lemon, spice it with cloves. This drink tastes great and also prevents you from getting sick in one of the rainy days.
These are the things I tried that helped me. I’m sure there are lots of other ways to overcome a seasonal depression, so I would be glad to hear more tips on overcoming depression from you.

Book Review: A History of the World in 6 Glasses
World History is a long and complex topic. Though many accomplished authors such as Bill Bryson and H. G. Wells have attempted to condense history into a single book, very few have succeeded. There is just too much of it. Attempts to boil down the last 10,000 years have resulted in either superficial books with very little depth, or great textbook like tombs too inaccessible for the casual reader.
Happily, A History of the World in 6 Glasses by Tom Standage succeeds where others have failed. Standage's book does this by sacrificing the breadth of every possible topic for an impressive depth and focus. Instead of trying to sum up the complete history of man, this book spotlights a single topic, in this case beverages, and then takes the reader on a journey through time to see how his topic interweaves the past. Standage is a delightful writer, mixing his light hearted style with exceptional historical savvy not just on the topic of drinks, but throughout.
Despite my now positive opinion of this book, I have to confess that when I first picked up A History of the World in 6 Glasses, I did not expect to enjoy it. Not only am I skeptical of any book claiming to sum up the antiquity of man in 300 pages or less, but I myself do not drink any of the 6 beverages this book discusses. As such, learning the history of these drinks did not sound immediately appealing. However, what I quickly learned is that this book is not a history of 6 drinks, but rather just as the title states, a history of the world, told through the story of 6 drinks. As the book points out in the introduction, second only to air, liquid is the most vital substance to man's survival. The availability of water and other drinking sources have "constrained and guided humankind's progress" and "have continued to shape human history". Throughout time, beverages have done more than quenched our thirst; they have been used as currencies, medicines, and in religious rites. They have served as symbols of wealth and power, as well as tools to appease the poor and downtrodden.
A History of the World in 6 Glasses is broken down into six sections, one for each drink, the first of which is beer. Man's first civilizations where founded on surplus cereal production, much of which was brewed. Ancient day beers were high in vitamin B, a vitamin previously only obtained through meat. This allowed the population to focus their nutrition efforts more and more on cereals, effectively ushering in the transition from hunter-gatherers to farmers. Additionally, because early beers were boiled (to convert more starch into sugars), the beer was significantly safer to drink than water. This significant improvement in lifestyle "freed a small fraction of the population from the need to work in the fields, and made possible the emergence of specialist priest, administrators, scribes, and craftsmen." Not only did beer nourish man's first civilizations, but in many ways, made them entirely possible.
Wine, the next beverage in the book, played a major role in the flourishing Greek and Roman cultures. As wine did not originate from the Mediterranean, the Greek's desire for this drink opened up vast seaborne trade, which spread their philosophy, politics, science and literature far and wide, and still underpins modern Western thought. A History of the World in 6 Glasses points out how these advancements originated and grew at formal Greek drinking parties, called symposia. The Romans, who absorbed much of Greek culture, continued the strong use of wine. As the book notes, if you trace the wine drinking areas of the world on a map, you will find you have traced the Roman empire at its height.
After a thousand years of hibernation, Western civilization was awakened by the rediscovery of ancient knowledge, long safeguarded in the Arab world. However, in an attempt to circumvent this Arab monopoly, European monarchs launched massive fleets into the sea. This age of exploration was greatly enhanced by the Arab knowledge of distillation, which made a whole new range of drinks possible. A History of the World in 6 Glasses describes how these condensed forms of alcohol (namely Brandy, Whiskey and Rum) were so popular, especially in the new American colonies, that "they played a key role in the establishment of the United States."
The fourth beverage presented in this book is coffee. Because of its sharpening effect on the mind, coffee quickly became the drink of intellect and industry. Replacing taverns as the sophisticated meeting place, the coffeehouse "led to the establishment of scientific societies and financial institutions, the founding of newspapers, and provided fertile ground for revolutionary thought, particularly in France." A History of the World in 6 Glasses goes on to recount the intricate effect coffeehouses had on Victorian culture, going so far as to dedicate an entire chapter to what the book calls "The Coffeehouse Internet".
Even though the inception of tea date back many thousands of years, it didn't take hold upon western culture until the mid-seventeenth century. Once established as England's national drink, the importing of tea from first China and then India led to trade and industrialization on an unprecedented scale. A History of the World in 6 Glasses describes the immense power of the British East India Company, which "generated more revenue than the British government and ruled over far more people", wielding more power than any other corporation in history. This imbalance of power had an enormous, far-reaching effect on British foreign policy, and ultimately contributed to the independence of the United States.
Like most of the drinks discussed in A History of the World in 6 Glasses, Coca-Cola was originally devised as a medical drink. More than any other product, Coca-Cola has stood as the symbol of America's "vibrant consumer capitalism". Rather than shrink at the challenge, Coca-Cola took full advantage of the challenging times it found itself in, gaining ground through the depression, and then traveling alongside our soldiers into WWII, becoming a global phenomenon. According to the book, Coca-Cola still accounts for "around 30 percent of all liquid consumption" today.
A History of the World in 6 Glasses makes it clear that the history of mankind is a history of our consumption. Whether we are drinking "liquid bread" in Mesopotamia, pondering revolution in a Coffeehouse in Paris, or throwing tea leafs into the ocean in Boston, these drinks have had a profound impact on who we are. As Standage says in the introduction to his book "They survive in our homes today as living reminders of bygone eras, fluid testaments to the forces that shaped the modern world. Uncover their origins, and you may never look at your favorite drink in quite the same way again." I highly recommend this book to anyone thirsty for knowledge about the world around them... or even if they're just thirsty for a good drink.

Glass Measuring Cups - Antique and Vintage Style
Glass Measuring Cups are a wonderful and unique addition to any cooking collection. First invented in 1879, measuring cups were created for standardization of measurements in cooking and baking. Prior to this most recipes measured quantities in “lumps” or “fists”. By changing the method of measuring quantities of wet and dry ingredients, chefs could create meals that tasted the same every time they were prepared.
Glass measuring cups are available in a wide variety of sizes, designs, and colors and may also be made from plastic or metal. Measuring cups are used in cooking to measure the volume of a liquid or dry ingredient. In the United States most measuring cups base the measurements on portions of one cup. Measuring cup sets that are sized to the top rim are usually better at obtaining exact measurements for cooking instead of one cup that utilizes graduated markings.
Glass measuring cup sets are produced today – allowing you to incorporate them into your cooking utensil collection. By using glass measuring cups you can replace older worn metal and plastic measuring cups with an elegant and beautiful addition to your kitchen. Be sure to follow a few simple steps when using glass measuring cups. First, glass measuring cups should not be taken from one temperature extreme to another (cold freezer to hot oven). Second, glass is more fragile than metal or plastic and can break when not stored or washed properly. There is a variety of glass cooking and baking supplies available which will help create your glassware cooking collection. You can also look in cooking or baking magazines for more suggestions on great kitchen items.
Glass measuring cups are readily available online as well as in many catalogs. Search for glass material and make sure to ask questions. Is this product dishwasher safe? Will the color fade over time? What are the measurements of the cups? These glass measuring cups can be found online at LookInTheAttic & Company, and they also offer free assistance and help.

I'd like to liquidate parent's estate quickly. What should I do?
I've already tried an auction service. They came in and took most of the best furniture, then sold it for pennies and most of the stuff they took didn't sell and I had to hire a truck and go there and get it back. Antique dealers only want Sotheby's quality merchandise, and who has that? Estate liquidators charge high fees plus a percentage. One even told me he doubted what he could get from the estate would even cover his fee. Another auctioneer suggested I rent a roll-off dumpster and put everything in it. I admit I don't have high-end antiques and collectibles, but this stuff must have value to someone. I'm looking for someone that will come in and give me a price for the lot and take it away - not pick and choose and only want the "good stuff." I even tried Ebay last summer. I put some depression and carnival glass up for sale and didn't even get a nibble. I'm tired of lugging it in and out of the house to have tag sales. Any suggestions?
The only thing I can think of is to list on Craigslist.com and offer an open house( estate sale) type deal. No need to set things outside or in a garage. Just have several family members or friends, to keep a close eye out on things while people look around the house.
Doing this, keep in mind, that you are going to get people that will haggle with you till you practically give it away for free.
Stand your ground.
Doing this method, you should get rid of most things.
Try to go through as much as you can, and even donate things, and get a receipt to right it off on next years taxes.

Fenton Carnival Glass
The popularity of collecting Carnival Glass has resurged in recent years. Contemporary pieces are readily available at cheap prices. However, the vintage Carnival Glass is really what is popular with collectors. To offer you some useful information on this American art form, I will discuss the history, manufacture, and value of this colorful art glass.
Carnival Glass History
In the late 19th century, Tiffany & Company and Steuben Art Glass produced a costly hand-blown iridized glass that was very popular with their wealthy clientèle. This glass was hand made and commanded extremely high prices. In 1907, the Fenton Art Glass Company began to mass-produce a high-quality and low-cost iridized glass, similar in appearance to the items crafted by Tiffany and Steuben. The Fenton iridized glass was available in numerous colors, including a unique red. Fenton was not the only manufacturer of iridized glass, but it was the largest producing the colorful glass in over 150 patterns.
Due to the economic hardships of the Great Depression, iridized glass lost its popularity. The inventory of this glassware was subsequently deeply discounted and commonly given away in cereal and supermarket promotions. In addition, the glassware was given away in carnival games, hence, the subsequent name Carnival Glass.
The popularity of iridized glass resurged in the 1950's with collectors and antique dealers and it was during this period that this glassware gained the name Carnival Glass. Today, Carnival Glass is still manufactured by Fenton, and several other companies.
Other Carnival Glass Manufacturers
Fenton, Northwood, Imperial Glass, Westmoreland and Dugan are just a few companies that have manufactured carnival glass. Some of these manufacturers stamped their pieces with a distinctive mark. However, most other manufacturers did not mark their goods leaving some vintage pieces impossible to authenticate. Today, because of high manufacturing costs, few of these manufacturers still remain.
What Is Carnival Glass Worth?
The vintage Carnival Glass manufactured early in the twentieth century is, by far, the most valuable, and sought after pieces. Color and condition play a large role in determining value. Chips, cracks, mold marks, repairs reduce the value. If an item is a rare color like aqua it is of more value than an item in marigold that is plentiful. The red Carnival Glass manufactured by Fenton is very rare, and often commands a very high price. Carnival Glass punch bowl sets, because they consist of multiple items, sell for a premium if complete with all pieces.
Traditional venues such as flea markets and antique shops have been the primary source for vintage carnival glass. Today, take a look at eBay for thousands of listings of both vintage and carnival glass at great prices. Remember, one persons trash is another persons treasure.
It is so ironic that at one point in time Fenton Carnival Glass was so common, it could hardly be given away. Today, some vintage pieces sell for thousands of dollars. However, if you spend some time looking for this beautiful glass, you are likely to find some real bargains.
How should proceed about getting the best price for collectibles?
I have inherited quite a few pieces of Depression, Fostoria and pressed glassware. I have a rough idea of the value, and I've placed ads in the local classifieds and on Craig's List but when people come to look at it, they only offer me a fraction of my asking price. One auctioneer even said that he would have to charge me a 30% commission plus a $200 handling fee for just taking it to try and sell. A few other have said that the bottom has fallen out of the Depression glass market. If I had had the glass to sell 15 to 20 years ago, I could have asked almost anything for it. Now is going for about 10% of book value. Are these people con artists, or what? What should I do to make sure I'm getting the best price for my things?
If you've done research into the value of these things, you've likely consulted published price guides. However, you can't accept the values in them as what you are likely to get for them in a realistic situation. Someone told me once that the true value of something is what people are willing to pay. The person that told you the bottom had fallen out of the antiques market may be close to the situation. I inherited a whole houseful of things when my mother passed away last fall and I've yet to sell anything. Nobody seems interested. Another thing is the uncertain economy. People are holding onto their money right now. They need it for necessities, not luxury items and dust-catchers. If you have a place to keep these things, I'd advise holding onto it until the market improves.

Glassware of the Depression Era
Glassware of the Depression era as the name connotes, was first created during the depression age between 1921 through the late 1930s; and some glassware crafted from the mid 20s stretching to the mid 40s are also known as depression glass. For those who are uninitiated about the Depression era, those times were some of the hardest that America and the world at large went through. Businesses folded by the minute, and food and materials were extremely expensive and scarce. Many people were left jobless and homeless as a direct result of the depression.
Because times were challenging, everyday appliances had to be creatively rendered. glassware especially, was deemed as a valuable commodity. To make ends meet, lots of people traded their beautiful glassware, some of them heirlooms, in exchange for food. During the depression, glassware was given away as gifts, which come together with cereals, sugar and even flour. Glassware was distributed, free of charge, to patrons at cinemas and visiting businesses. In those times, if you knew where to go, you were able to acquire a complete set of dinnerware, all for free. Isn't that amazing?
Depression glass was crafted by about 20 manufacturers using over a hundred designs. The intricate renderings were simply remarkable, despite the fact that times were bitter. Glassware artisans then were arguably, at the height of creativity levels, perhaps as an escape from the seemingly hopelessness that permeated their surroundings. The Mid-West states of America were the central locations for depression glass, as these positions had the closest access to raw materials and the machinery needed.
In 1929 to 1933, the Hocking Glass Company began making pink block optic depression glass. These glassware were made with parallel creases encircling the glass. Because of these creases and also vertically infused lines, they were known as block optic. Glassware from the Hocking Company came in many colors; pink, amber, green and also in crystal. The unique factor lies in the fact that block optic glassware patterns were never reproduced - so if you come across one, it is indeed quite valuable. Block optic glassware had a range of glass cups, sugar and creamer sets, tublers, bowls, pitchers - the whole works.
Various other depression glassware includes Cabbage Rose, Mayfair, Cherry Blossom, Princess and Adam to name a few. These are highly collectible items for glassware connoisseurs, and cab fetch quite a hefty sum if one is looking for complete sets.
Depression glassware of course, is not perfect. Because of scarce materials, machinery and a small number of expert artisans, many of them have flaws, such as air bubbles. However, the designs on each one were never compromised. Intricate floral patterns and lines were lovingly added. Each piece has a remarkable strength and beauty which has endured the test of time. Most depression glass, when acquired can still be used today. However, collectors prefer to have them displayed.
The splendor and charm of depression glassware are mementos of an unforgettable past, where even in tested times, beauty still endures.

Anyone know about Depression Glass? What Pattern is this?
I was given these dishes and was told they are the very collectible "Depression Glass". The pattern is difficult to describe, I can email a photo if you think you can help. It looks kind of like a star and flower at the same time. It has points all around the edges and a starburst in the center. I cannot find anywhere in any book what pattern this is. Anyone know?

The site of the Empire State Building was first developed as the John Thomson Farm in the late 18th century. At the time, a stream ran across the site, emptying into Sunfish Pond, located a block away. Beginning in the late 19th century the block was occupied by the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, frequented by The Four Hundred, the social elite of New York.
Design and construction
The Empire State Building was designed by William F. Lamb from the architectural firm Shreve, Lamb and Harmon, which produced the building drawings in just two weeks, using its earlier designs for the Reynolds Building in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and the Carew Tower in Cincinnati, Ohio (designed by the architectural firm W.W. Ahlschlager & Associates) as a basis. Every year the staff of the Empire State Building sends a Father's Day card to the staff at the Reynolds Building in Winston-Salem to pay homage to its role as predecessor to the Empire State Building. The building was designed from the top down. The general contractors were The Starrett Brothers and Eken, and the project was financed primarily by John J. Raskob and Pierre S. du Pont. The construction company was chaired by Alfred E. Smith, a former Governor of New York and James Farley's General Builders Supply Corporation supplied the building materials. John W. Bowser was project construction superintendant.
A worker bolts beams during construction; the Chrysler Building can be seen in the background.
Excavation of the site began on January 22, 1930, and construction on the building itself started symbolically on March 17t.Patrick's Dayer Al Smith's influence as Empire State, Inc. president. The project involved 3,400 workers, mostly immigrants from Europe, along with hundreds of Mohawk iron workers, many from the Kahnawake reserve near Montreal. According to official accounts, five workers died during the construction. Governor Smith's grandchildren cut the ribbon on May 1, 1931. Lewis Wickes Hine's photography of the construction provides not only invaluable documentation of the construction, but also a glimpse into common day life of workers in that era. In particular the photo of a worker climbing a stay cable is talismanic of the era and the building itself.
The construction was part of an intense competition in New York for the title of "world's tallest building". Two other projects fighting for the title, 40 Wall Street and the Chrysler Building, were still under construction when work began on the Empire State Building. Each held the title for less than a year, as the Empire State Building surpassed them upon its completion, just 410 days after construction commenced. The building was officially opened on May 1, 1931 in dramatic fashion, when United States President Herbert Hoover turned on the building's lights with the push of a button from Washington, D.C. Ironically, the first use of tower lights atop the Empire State Building, the following year, was for the purpose of signalling the victory of Franklin D. Roosevelt over Hoover in the presidential election of November 1932.
Opening
The building's opening coincided with the Great Depression in the United States, and as a result much of its office space went without being rented. The building's vacancy was exacerbated by its poor location on 34th Street, which placed it relatively far from public transportation, as Grand Central Terminal, the Port Authority Bus Terminal, and Penn Station are all several blocks away. Other more successful skyscrapers, such as the Chrysler Building, do not have this problem. In its first year of operation, the observation deck took in approximately 2 million dollars, as much money as its owners made in rent that year. The lack of renters led New Yorkers to deride the building as the "Empty State Building". The building would not become profitable until 1950. The famous 1951 sale of The Empire State Building to Roger L. Stevens and his business partners was brokered by the prominent upper Manhattan real-estate firm Charles F. Noyes & Company for a record $51 million. At the time, that was the highest price ever paid for a single structure in real-estate history.
Dirigible (airship) terminal
The building's distinctive Art Deco spire was originally designed to be a mooring mast and depot for dirigibles. The 102nd floor was originally a landing platform with a dirigible gangplank. A particular elevator, traveling between the 86th and 102nd floors, was supposed to transport passengers after they checked in at the observation deck on the 86th floor. However, the idea proved to be impractical and dangerous after a few attempts with airships, due to the powerful updrafts caused by the size of the building itself. A large broadcast tower was added to the top of the spire in 1953.
1945 plane crash

Crash by a U.S. Army B-25 bomber on July 28, 1945
At 9:40 a.m.on Saturday, July 28, 1945, a B-25 Mitchell bomber, piloted in thick fog by Lieutenant Colonel William Franklin Smith, Jr., crashed into the north side of the Empire State Building, between the 79th and 80th floors, where the offices of the National Catholic Welfare Council were located. One engine shot through the side opposite the impact and flew as far as the next block where it landed on the roof of a nearby building, starting a fire that destroyed a penthouse. The other engine and part of the landing gear plummeted down an elevator shaft. The resulting fire was extinguished in 40 minutes. 14 people were killed in the incident. Elevator operator Betty Lou Oliver survived a plunge of 75 stories inside an elevator, which still stands as the Guinness World Record for the longest survived elevator fall recorded. Despite the damage and loss of life, the building was open for business on many floors on the following Monday. The crash helped spur the passage of the long-pending Federal Tort Claims Act of 1946, as well as the insertion of retroactive provisions into the law, allowing people to sue the government for the accident.
A year later, another aircraft had a close encounter with the skyscraper. It narrowly missed striking the building.
Height records and comparisons
Height comparison in buildings in New York City
The Empire State Building remained the tallest man-made structure in the world for 23 years before it was surpassed by the Griffin Television Tower Oklahoma (KWTV Mast) in 1954. It was also the tallest free-standing structure in the world for 36 years before it was surpassed by the Ostankino Tower in 1967.
The longest world record held by the Empire State Building was for the tallest skyscraper (to structural height), which it held for 42 years until it was surpassed by the North Tower of the World Trade Center in 1973. With the destruction of the World Trade Center in the September 11, 2001 attacks, the Empire State Building again became the tallest building in New York City, and the second-tallest building in the Americas, currently surpassed only by the Willis Tower in Chicago. When measured by pinnacle height, the Empire State Building is currently the third-tallest building in the Americas, surpassed only by the Willis Tower and the Trump International Hotel and Tower.
1 World Trade Center, currently under construction in New York City, is expected to exceed the height of the Empire State Building upon completion. The Chicago Spire is also expected to exceed the height of the Empire State Building upon completion, but its construction has been halted due to financial problems.
Suicides
Over the years, more than thirty people have committed suicide from the top of the building. The first suicide occurred even before its completion, by a worker who had been laid off. The fence around the observatory terrace was put up in 1947 after five people tried to jump during a three-week span. On December 2, 1979, Elvita Adams jumped from the 86th floor, only to be blown back onto the 85th floor and left with only a broken hip.
Shootings

On February 24, 1997, a Palestinian gunman shot seven people on the observation deck, killing one, then fatally wounding himself.
Architecture
The Empire State Building (in center of image) is the tallest building in New York City
Street level view of the Empire State Building
The Empire State Building rises to 1,250 ft (381 m) at the 102nd floor, and including the 203 ft (62 m) pinnacle, its full height reaches 1,453 ft8916 in (443.09 m). The building has 85 stories of commercial and office space representing 2,158,000 sq ft (200,500 m2). It has an indoor and outdoor observation deck on the 86th floor. The remaining 16 stories represent the Art Deco tower, which is capped by a 102nd-floor observatory. Atop the tower is the 203 ft (62 m) pinnacle, much of which is covered by broadcast antennas, with a lightning rod at the very top.
The Empire State Building was the first building to have more than 100 floors. It has 6,500 windows and 73 elevators, and there are 1,860 steps from street level to the 103rd floor. It has a total floor area of 2,768,591 sq ft (257,211 m2); the base of the Empire State Building is about 2 acres (8,094 m2). The building houses 1,000 businesses, and has its own zip code, 10118. As of 2007, approximately 21,000 employees work in the building each day, making the Empire State Building the second-largest single office complex in America, after the Pentagon. The building was completed in one year and 45 days. Its original 64 elevators are located in a central core; today, the Empire State Building has 73 elevators in all, including service elevators. It takes less than one minute by elevator to get to the 86th floor, where an observation deck is located. The building has 70 mi (113 km) of pipe, 2,500,000 ft (760,000 m) of electrical wire, and about 9,000 faucets.[citation needed] It is heated by low-pressure steam; despite its height, the building only requires between 2 and 3 psi (14 and 21 kPa) of steam pressure for heating. It weighs approximately 370,000 short tons (340,000 t). The exterior of the building was built using Indiana limestone panels.
The Empire State Building cost $40,948,900 to build.
A series of setbacks causes the building to taper with height.
Unlike most of today's skyscrapers, the Empire State Building features an art deco design, typical of pre-World War II architecture in New York. The modernistic stainless steel canopies of the entrances on 33rd and 34th Streets lead to two story-high corridors around the elevator core, crossed by stainless steel and glass-enclosed bridges at the second-floor level. The elevator core contains 67 elevators.
The lobby is three stories high and features an aluminum relief of the skyscraper without the antenna, which was not added to the spire until 1952. The north corridor contains eight illuminated panels, created by Roy Sparkia and Rene Nemorov in 1963, depicting the building as the Eighth Wonder of the World, alongside the traditional seven.
Long-term forecasting of the life cycle of the structure was implemented at the design phase to ensure that the building's future intended uses were not restricted by the requirements of previous generations. This is particularly evident in the over-design of the building's electrical system.
Floodlights
Empire State Building with red and green lights for Christmas, as seen from GE Building
Empire State Building with normal white lighting, as seen from New Jersey
In 1964, floodlights were added to illuminate the top of the building at night, in colors chosen to match seasonal and other events, such as St. Patrick's Day, Christmas, Independence Day or Bastille Day. After the eightieth birthday and subsequent death of Frank Sinatra, for example, the building was bathed in blue light to represent the singer's nickname "Ol' Blue Eyes". After the death of actress Fay Wray (King Kong) in late 2004, the building stood in complete darkness for 15 minutes.
The floodlights bathed the building in red, white, and blue for several months after the destruction of the World Trade Center, then reverted to the standard schedule. Traditionally, in addition to the standard schedule, the building will be lit in the colors of New York's sports teams on the nights they have home games (orange, blue and white for the New York Knicks, red, white and blue for the New York Rangers, and so on). The first weekend in June finds the building bathed in green light for the Belmont Stakes held in nearby Belmont Park. The building is illuminated in tennis-ball yellow during the US Open tennis tournament in late August and early September. It was twice lit in scarlet to support nearby Rutgers University: once for a football game against the University of Louisville on November 9, 2006 , and again on April 3, 2007 when the women's basketball team played in the national championship game.
In 1995, the building was lit up in blue, red, green and yellow for the release of Microsoft's Windows 95 operating system, which was launched with a $300 million campaign.
The building has also been known to be illuminated in purple and white in honor of graduating students from New York University.
Every year in September, the building is lit in black, red, and yellow, with the top lights off (for black) to celebrate the German-American Steuben Parade on Fifth Avenue.
The building was lit green for three days in honor of the Islamic holiday of Eid ul-Fitr in October 2007. The lighting, the first for a Muslim holiday, is intended to be an annual event and was repeated in 2008 and 2009. In December 2007, the building was lit yellow to signify the home video release of The Simpsons Movie.
From April 2527, 2008 the building was lit in lavender, pink, and white in celebration of international pop diva Mariah Carey's accomplishments in the world of music and the release of her eleventh studio album E=MC2.[citation needed]
In late October 2008, the building was lit green in honor of the fifth anniversary of the acclaimed Broadway Musical Wicked by Kerry Ellis and Stephen Schwartz.
Starting in 2008, the building along with New York City and many other cities around the world, participated in Earth Hour. The skyscraper's floodlights were turned off for exactly an hour to conserve energy.
In September 2009, the building was lit for one night in orange colors, in celebration of the exploration of Manhattan Island by Henry Hudson 400 years earlier. The Dutch prince Willem-Alexander van Oranje and princess Maxima were present and turned on the lights from the lobby.
In 2009, the building was lit for one night in red and yellow, the colors of the Communist People's Republic of China, to celebrate the 60 years since its founding, amid controversy.
Observation decks
The Empire State Building has one of the most popular outdoor observatories in the world, having been visited by over 110 million people. The 86th-floor observation deck offers impressive 360-degree views of the city. There is a second observation deck on the 102nd floor that is open to the public. It was closed in 1999, but reopened in November 2005. It is completely enclosed and much smaller than the first one; it may be closed on high-traffic days. Tourists may pay to visit the observation deck on the 86th floor and an additional amount for the 102nd floor. The lines to enter the observation decks, according to the building's website, are "as legendary as the building itself:" there are five of them: the sidewalk line, the lobby elevator line, the ticket purchase line, the second elevator line, and the line to get off the elevator and onto the observation deck. For an extra fee tourists can skip to the front of the line.
The skyscraper observation deck plays host to several cinematic, television, and literary classics including, An Affair To Remember, Love Affair and Sleepless in Seattle. In the Latin American literary work Empire of Dreams by Giannina Braschi the observation deck is the site of a pastoral revolution; shepherds take over the City of New York. The deck was also the site of a Martian invasion on an old episode of I Love Lucy.

New York Skyride
View from Macy's
The Empire State Building also has a motion simulator attraction, located on the 2nd floor. Opened in 1994 as a complement to the observation deck, the New York Skyride (or NY Skyride) is a simulated aerial tour over the city. The theatrical presentation lasts approximately 25 minutes.
Since its opening, the ride has gone through two incarnations. The original version, which ran from 1994 until around 2002, featured James Doohan, Star Trek's Scotty, as the airplane's pilot, who humorously tried to keep the flight under control during a storm, with the tour taking an unexpected route through the subway, Coney Island, and FAO Schwartz, among other places. After September 11th, however, the ride was closed, and an updated version debuted in mid-2002 with actor Kevin Bacon as the pilot. The new version of the narration attempted to make the attraction more educational, and included some minor post-9/11 patriotic undertones with retrospective footage of the World Trade Center. The new flight also goes haywire, but this segment is much shorter than in the original.
Broadcast stations
New York City is the largest media market in the United States. Since the September 11, 2001 attacks, nearly all of the city's commercial broadcast stations (both television and FM radio) have transmitted from the top of the Empire State Building, although a few FM stations are located at the nearby Cond Nast Building. Most New York City AM stations broadcast from just across the Hudson River in New Jersey.
Communications devices for broadcast stations are located at the top of the Empire State Building.
Broadcasting began at Empire on December 22, 1931, when RCA began transmitting experimental television broadcasts from a small antenna erected atop the spire. They leased the 85th floor and built a laboratory there, andn 1934CA was joined by Edwin Howard Armstrong in a cooperative venture to test his FM system from the Empire antenna. When Armstrong and RCA fell out in 1935 and his FM equipment was removed, the 85th floor became the home of RCA's New York television operations, first as experimental station W2XBS channel 1, which eventually became (on July 1, 1941) commercial station WNBT, channel 1 (now WNBC-TV channel 4). NBC's FM station (WEAF-FM, now WQHT) began transmitting from the antenna in 1940. NBC retained exclusive use of the top of the Empire until 1950, when the FCC ordered the exclusive deal broken, based on consumer complaints that a common location was necessary for the (now) seven New York television stations to transmit from so that receiving antennas would not have to be constantly adjusted. Construction on a giant tower began. Other television broadcasters then joined RCA at Empire, on the 83rd, 82nd, and 81st floors, frequently bringing sister FM stations along for the ride. Multiple transmissions of TV and FM began from the new tower in 1951. In 1965, a separate set of FM antennas were constructed ringing the 103rd floor observation area. When the World Trade Center was being constructed, it caused serious problems for the television stations, most of which then moved to the World Trade Center as soon as it was completed. This made it possible to renovate the antenna structure and the transmitter facilities for the benefit of the FM stations remaining there, which were soon joined by other FMs and UHF TVs moving in from elsewhere in the metropolitan area. The destruction of the World Trade Center necessitated a great deal of shuffling of antennas and transmitter rooms in order to accommodate the stations moving back uptown.
As of 2009, the Empire State Building is home to the following stations:
The Empire State Building Run-Up is a foot race from ground level to the 86th-floor observation deck that has been held annually since 1978. Its participants are referred to both as runners and as climbers, and are often tower running enthusiasts. The race covers a vertical distance of 1,050 feet (320 m) and takes in 1,576 steps. The record time is 9 minutes and 33 seconds, achieved by Australian professional cyclist Paul Crake in 2003, at a climbing rate of 6,593 ft (2,010 m) per hour.
In popular culture
Film
Perhaps the most famous popular culture representation of the building is in the 1933 film King Kong, in which the title character, a giant ape, climbs to the top to escape his captors but falls to his death. In 1983, for the 50th anniversary of the film, an inflatable King Kong was placed on the actual building. In 2005, a remake of King Kong was released, set in 1930s New York City, including a final showdown between Kong and bi-planes atop a greatly detailed Empire State Building. (The 1976 remake of King Kong was set in a contemporary New York City and held its climactic scene on the towers of the World Trade Center.)
The 1939 romantic drama film Love Affair involves a couple who plan to meet atop the Empire State Building, a rendezvous that is averted by an automobile accident. The film was remade in 1957 (as An Affair to Remember) and in 1994 (again as Love Affair). The 1993 film Sleepless in Seattle, a romantic comedy partially inspired by An Affair to Remember, climaxes with a scene at the Empire State observatory.
Andy Warhol's 1964 silent film Empire is one continuous, eight-hour shot of the Empire State Building at night, shot in black-and-white. In 2004, the National Film Registry deemed its cultural significance worthy of preservation in the Library of Congress.
The film Independence Day features the Empire State Building as ground zero for an alien attack; it is devastated by the aliens' primary weapon which incinerates most of New York City.
Many other movies that feature the Empire State Building are listed on the building's own website.
Television
The Empire State Building featured in the 1966 Doctor Who serial The Chase, in which the TARDIS lands on the roof of the building; The Doctor and his companions leave quite quickly, however, because The Daleks are close behind them. A Dalek is also seen on the roof of the building while it interrogates a human. In 2007, Doctor Who episodes "Daleks in Manhattan" and "Evolution of the Daleks" also featured the building, which the Daleks are constructing to use as a lightning conductor. Russell T Davies said in an article that "in his mind", the Daleks remembered the building from their last visit.
The Discovery Channel show MythBusters tested the urban myth which claims that if one drops a penny off the top of the Empire State Building, it could kill someone or put a crater in the pavement. The outcome was that, by the time the penny hits the ground, it is going roughly 65 mph (105 km/h) (terminal velocity for an object of its mass and shape), which is not fast enough to inflict lethal injury or put a crater into the pavement. The urban legend is a joke in the 2003 musical Avenue Q, where a character waiting atop the building for a rendezvous tosses a penny over the sidenly to hit her rival.
Literature
H.G. Wells' 1933 science fiction book The Shape of Things to Come, written in the form of a history book published in the far future, includes the following passage: "Up to quite recently Lower New York has been the most old-fashioned city in the world, unique in its gloomy antiquity. The last of the ancient skyscrapers, the Empire State Building, is even now under demolition in C.E. 2106!".
In the science fiction novel The Rebel of Rhada by Robert Cham Gilman (Alfred Coppel), taking place at a decayed galactic empire of the far future, New York is an ancient city which was destroyed and rebuilt countless times. Its highest and most ancient building, covered with piled-up ruins up to half its height, is known simply as "The Empire Tower", but is obviously the Empire State Building.
David Macaulay's 1980 illustrated book Unbuilding depicts the Empire State Building being purchased by a Middle Eastern billionaire and disassembled piece by piece, to be transported to his home country and rebuilt there.
The Empire State Building is featured prominently as both a setting and integral plot device throughout much of Michael Chabon's 2000 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay.
In the Percy Jackson book series, Mount Olympus is located over the Empire State Building, and there is a special elevator in the building to the "600th floor," which is supposed to be Olympus.

Would you be a serious antique collector interested in antique telephone conductor?
I have a antique telephone conductor, which is shaped like a bell. I think it used to sit on the telephone pole or line. It is depression glass (PINK). It has written on it Whitall Tatum Co. No.1. It has a triangle with the letter W on top of the letter T. Then has Made in U.S.A.. If you are a serious collector please contact me at livelygirlstilllivin @ yahoo. com and make me an offer. It is in Mint condition.
No, that is an electric line insulator - retail value around $15.00. See source site. Just too many of them still around on old lines in mainly rural areas. Telephone lines do run off electric poles below the ground wire. Hot wires at top, ground wire underneath & cable/phone below that. Insulators are at the top of the pole insulating the electric hot current wires. Phone and cable lines run off a different type of low current , require only sleeve type insulation = they can hang low due to their minimal hazard effect if damaged. Modern day insulators are ceramic (usually white, some gray), not glass. The most valuable of the old glass type (around $30-$45.) are made with gold - the stronger the pigment = more the gold. Usually not clear.

i actually dont' look forward to seeing her. All she does is make me crap! 5 mins ago i left the room because she began giving out to me for not putting a glass on a magazine incase it would mark the table and the charger on the table too and began to rant about how i never help out when i had just made the dinner!? On Sunday i had a huge fight with her because i asked her to pick me up from my show *i'd been doing it all week* and i hadn't realised there was a 15 minute presentation and she gave out hell to me because i was using her as a *taxi service* and not showing her any thanks making her wait 15 mins. Its so annoying we fight over the stupidest things and she makes me cry and leave the room. She can be cool at times but others she drives me to the brink of depression. I'm sick of putting up with her crap of arguments and expecting me to be perfect at school and stuff.
wow. literally. WOW.

You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. You are the guy who'll decide where to go. By Dr. Seuss Find out about Depression Glass For Sale
Do you think it's time to sell your gold? Take those rose-colored glasses off!
Many new reports have publicized that the financial markets can go no lower. Crude oil prices are at an all time low, the housing slump and economic slowdown are over, and the future looks so bright, or is it? These reports recommend that now is the time to liquidate your gold bullion. But don't be fooled, take off those rose-colored glasses, because now is definitely not the time to sell!
Before you decide to trade your gold for depreciating dollars, look at these important facts why you should be doing more gold investing. While retail sales have risen slightly, these sales include gasoline; which is selling well because the prices have dropped. Jobless claims continue to rise and many companies continue to announce new layoffs. Financial markets are still volatile. Even after the government has bailed out some of the largest banks, these same banks continue to need more money to operate.
The housing market has not yet reached bottom and people defaulting on their mortgages continues to rise. Inflation is going up and has risen more in the last six months than it has since 1991. The federal government will not raise interest rates to deal with inflation. The Fed has never raised rates while the country is in a recession. Tension is high all around the world. The gold price continues to drop as the global tension increases.
So what should you do? Think about this question. What has survived war, inflation, deflation, recessions, and depressions? That's right, precious metals. What has not? Paper money has come and gone. Confederate money from the Civil War is no longer any good, but the gold that backed it still is. Gold is a long-term stable investment that history has shown to be the right choice for dealing with many types of crisis that are around right now. Throw away the rose-colored glasses and realize that the best recommendation is to NOT sell gold but to buy it!
How did Greenspan help create to great economic bubbles in U.S.?
The deregulation philosophy would pay unwelcome dividends for years to come. In November 1999, Congress repealed the Glass-Steagall Act—the
culmination of a $300 million lobbying effort by the banking and financial-services industries, and spearheaded in Congress by Senator
Phil Gramm. Glass-Steagall had long separated commercial banks (which lend money) and investment banks (which organize the sale of bonds and
equities); it had been enacted in the aftermath of the Great Depression and was meant to curb the excesses of that era, including grave conflicts of interest. Greenspan, Phil Graham and Bill Clinton. Ref: Bailouts
Greenspan was the most overrated economist in the US.
His wonderful decision to "slow down the economy" resulted in the meltdown in 2000.
It's stupid to stop a growing economy, in any case, and government meddling in the economy is what has gotten us into the predicament that we face now.
Confiscatory tax rates have brought our economy to the verge of complete ruin. It's no wonder that people can't afford mortgage payments when some property taxes have gone up more than 400% in one year!
Government on all levels waste colossal amounts of money, from local and state governments, all of the way up to the federal.
We simply can't afford our government any longer. All they want to do is tax, tax, tax and give the money to cronies, waste in on just about anything except that which would actually benefit those paying the taxes.
The final blow was the profligate spending by the Bush administration, which has given Haliburton huge amounts of money, and also didn't do anything about the gouging of big oil.
Bush then flatly refused to do anything about the mortgage crisis until it was too late.
They still haven't helped the possible FIVE MILLION Americans who are in jeopardy of losing their homes.
How about helping THEM instead of failed and incompetent fatcat executives, who just take the government bailout money for more bonuses and fatcat salaries?
The lending institutions should be forced to renegotiate all of these loans to a more affordable level to end the crisis.
Government taxation on all levels needs to be limited to a small percentage, and government waste needs to be curtailed immediately.
We also need a better process than impeachment for getting rid of incompetent and corrupt politicians, such as Bush and Blagojevich.
Other countries have a vote of "no confidence" which can quickly and efficiently get rid of these jerks before they can do more damage; that's what the US needs.

Why talk of Wall Street re-regulation is just talk. February 19, 2010
Being Street Smart
Sy Harding
Why Talk of Wall Street re-regulation is just talk. February 19 2010.
Congress continues to promise tough regulation of the financial industry. Another version of a reform project should reach the Senate for debate next week.
That's all facade! several months passed, during which investors and consumers hear the insurance difficult reforms that will occur. But nothing significant will be next.
It was the same after each financial implosion on Wall Street and scandal in recent decades.
Only after the shock of the accident from 1929 to 1932, when the stock market has lost 90% its value and pushed the country into the Great Depression has devastating Congress take action.
In the 1930s, after similar surveys have revealed problems similar to those of today, Congress passed the Truth in Securities Act, which required companies to provide more honest about their operations, sales and income, the Securities Exchange Act, which aimed to end to fraudulent transactions, regulating stock exchanges, banks and brokerage firms, and the Glass-Steagall Act that prevented commercial banks from being involved in the stock brokerage and trading activities. Congress also created the Securities & Exchange Commission Police securities industry newly regulated. Among the quick actions of the SEC imposed the uptick rule "which prevented companies from operating a stock, or the whole market down with relentless selling (they had to wait for 'uptick "Before executing a short sale).
Congressman Sam Rayburn said then that the president of the New York Stock Exchange rose "The lobbying effort of the most powerful ever mounted against a bill."
Wall Street has managed to get the bills watered down, but even with that reforms have been significant and have occurred.
Most investors are probably unaware or forgetful of many scandals that have occurred in recent decades, in which criminal prosecution by the SEC and Justice Department have regularly accused the big companies financial fraud and scams public investors. In almost all cases, the evidence was overwhelming enough that the companies settled out of court, sometimes agreed to pay billions of dollars in fines and restitution, but were allowed to sign in institutions where they "neither admit nor denying his guilt. "
The public was generally too happy that bull market is being hampered by being such details. So no pressure on Congress, there were no changes to the regulations to stop these activities.
There was not even a public outcry when many of the previous rules, including the Glass-Steagall Act, the "uptick rule, and restrictions the "program-trading 'were repealed.
But here we are, after the bursting of two bubbles serious equity and real estate, and two severe bear markets, the combination of which led investors and owners lose billions of dollars of the value of their assets.
As in the 1930s, now the public is mad and demanding that financial firms, including banks, be punished and reformed.
Congress responded to the anger of his constituents in the investigation, in which she, as in the 1930s, identified the major financial companies as major players who created the bubbles and their aftermath, and is again promising reforms that will prevent recurrences.
(They do not recognize that they have aided and abetted by the repeal of the legislation prior to their friends on Wall Street).
Politicians respond to their constituents. So long as people are mad and demanding reform, is what Congress promised.
However, as usual, the financial sector began to fight, work to convince the public that the reforms are not necessary and do more harm than good.
When they have convinced the public that, and the rage subsides reform, Congress will also be down leaving business almost as usual for Wall Street.
How can the public believe that the reforms would do more harm than good? By a clever propaganda.
For example, a number of banks bailed out they have formed a group called the Coalition for Reform corporate finance. Sure sounds like a group whose public statements provide objective information on the reforms. But its purpose is to educate cons reform "over the counter derivatives, customized contracts to large commercial enterprises in the private agreements beyond trade public.
In a similar training effort of people, JP Morgan has published a study last week of paper, which headlined the Financial Times as "Doomsday Scenario Rules Laid Out." JP Morgan The document states that the proposed reforms would result in banks having to raise $ 221 billion, which they would convey to the public at prices much higher for banking services.
Meanwhile, the financial executives and their farm lobbies are strong with interviews and articles explaining that the exchange of property, the risk of derivatives, etc., have not really contributed to the collapse of the financial system, and should not be regulated.
Congress has incentives of its own to reach the same conclusion.
During the 2008 elections Wall Street provided the candidates with 155 million dollars in campaign funds, approximately $ 88 million Democrats, and 67 million for Republicans. In the year following the election of Wall Street firms and executives delivered to 42 million for legislators, most of it to members of the House and Senate banking committees and House and Senate leaders.
This is the year of midterm elections when their reelection trades more than any other consideration. So expect the Congress to continue to talk about this difficult issue that voters want to hear, but by blocking until the anger falls, to finally be able to walk the financial industry is paying, meaningless, but supposedly noble regulatory changes.
