What drugs are usually safe to take during pregnancy? Anti-depressants? Ambien? Konopin? Tylenol? etc?

I'm on Wellbutrin, which I know I need to talk to my doctor about before i get pregnant. But I am so afraid that just going off of it will make my depression come back even worse. And with all those hormones swirling around, woohoo!! Also, I have bad allergies and asthma, and chronic insomnia for which I take Ambien for. I presume that I will have to learn how to live without these drugs for awhile? Sometimes they say that the mother taking drugs can sometimes outweigh the risks of going off the drugs. With my history of depression and anxiety, I have a feeling I might be one of those people....but I definitely would not want to cause any harm to my unborn baby. I know I should talk to my doctor, and I will, but I wanted to hear any of your experiences with this kind of situation?

No one one here can give you a safe enough answer. Talk to your doctor. Talk to another doctor too to get another opinion. Talk to your pharmacists, or a variety of them from different stores that have pharmacy's you can contact people at. Get the answers from people who work in that type of field and deal with those important questions. Make a list of medications (perscribed, AND over the counter meds)/foods/mulitvitamins that they tell you are unsafe...a make a list of the ones they tell you are safe. Ask if they have lists already made up.

Anti-depressants are usually a no no. But in some cases they may be nessesary. Don't forget your moods throughout the pregnancy will have an impact on the child. This is something you have to talk to your doctor about, and something you may have to make the best educated choice.

Most drugs have a potential for harm (unless we know for sure otherwise), as we do not know if they cause harm or not....you can't very well test pharmacutical medications on a pregnant women like you can on mice.

Also something else you might want to take into consideration. Keep an eye on the things you eat...as any chemicals contained within the food maybe transfered to the growing child. Breating air in the city (all the exuast, and smog), is very unhealthy for the babe.

Mattering to others is important to college students, and negative affect may be exacerbated if peer relationships are lacking.

To reduce perceived stress and depression, college students may benefit from understanding the developmental process that occurs in college. Psychologists can assist college student clients in developing close and healthy interpersonal relationships with peers by teaching important skills, such as open communication and assertiveness. It is also important to take the sex of the client into consideration given that sex differences were found consistently in this study. Though women may feel that they matter to others more than men do, they also experience more college stress and depression. As women and men report comparable levels of self-esteem, psychologists may want to implement interventions focusing on other factors such as the interpersonal relationships of women, particularly the family and friends to whom they believe they matter.

What measures Colleges and Universities must take to reduce depression and help students coping with it proactively:

“Depression is a huge problem in the college student population” says John Greden M.D executive director of U-M Depression Centre. College students are framing negative headlines in the news, initially it was related to alcohol, drug, physical abuse but in the present scenario the concern is for mental illness in the college campuses. In American Psychology Today Hara Marrano says “Mental illness is absolutely going off the charts on college campuses”. psychiatrist Shamsah Sonawalla of Massachusetts General Hospital  says “there is no just increase in the prevalence “ of psychological problems in college students but “an identification of problems earlier . that we recognize it more is a good thing. But we have opened up Pandora’s box” that Many students do not know notice the changes in them, they may feel anxiety, stress blues, but cannot root out the biological cause, they may feel that they are falling behind then their peers  (Ann Arbor, MI)

The symptoms of depression are based on- genetics, environment, life events, family and social environment and medical conditions together stimulate the brain to release mood altering neurotransmitters that may lead to anxiety, stress and depression.

The authorities must take the charge of not only counselling the students and parents (if required) but also amend the curriculum if required so as to put let pressure on students. Things like easy ways to study must be implemented. Co=operation is desired in case if the faculty members come across any situation if they notice grouchy and irritable behaviour of the collegiate, if the student becomes slow in thinking and speaking than normal, trouble in concentrating, remembering and making decisions, changes in habits especially eating and sleeping, lose interest in things , they use to enjoy, and if the student(s) have feeling of guilt, hopelessness, and wonder if the life is worth living. Above all if the student is thinking a lot about death or suicide, frequent complains about headache and stomach-ache.

Although the findings of this study are compelling, certain limitations need to be recognized. All of the measures were self report, and there were no behavioral indicators of the constructs being examined. There may have been a ceiling effect on mattering with the average score 3.27 out of a possible 4. In addition, the self-reported yearly family income was relatively high.

 In addition, the study was conducted at only one university in one area of the United States. Again, generalizing the findings to students across the United States should be made cautiously. This study found that perceived mattering, a relatively new construct, self-esteem, and sex of participant are highly related to both depression and perceived stress, and that when combined with stress, they accounted for a considerable portion of the variance in depression. These findings have practical implications regarding issues to be addressed in therapy for those psychologists who work on college campuses. In addition, this study adds to the empirical knowledge about depression, as well as perceived stress, and calls for more research on these variables and their interconnectedness.

What Authorities can really do:
1.Help students get organized with their work
2.Students must also be allowed to take breaks, it is essential to have mental relaxation
3. Students must be encouraged for practicing and reharsing on their weakness rather than demotivating them.
4. the attitude to "Do it Now" must be given some relaxation to avoid stress and distress among the students.
5. students must be realized about their limitations and at the same time authorities mut encourage about their talents (hidden and expressed). This will provide confidence and mental relaxation.
6. Attitude of the student must be judged by the faculty members.
7. Students must be encouraged to pland their work schedule to have a systematic and less stressful work.
8. A positive and encouraging atmosphere reduces stress. it is the responsibility of college authorities to organise programs for the students which are related to their cultural and education.
9. Authorities must avoid comparisons between students as this becomes the sole reason for stress in students.
10. Pressures for the examination and performace can be reduced by introducing an educationa system that aids in learning through activities and projects, they should have practical orientation. This helps in grasping the subject fast.
11. Teaching through teaching aids always make the learning easy.

These are the efforts if taken can reduce the stress in college students and help the students to become a good and responsible citizens. The kind of education imparted by the Institutions id depicted in the personality of the students. Hence these students will shape the society in much reformed manner and can become a big help in reducing stress in fellows.

What are these symptoms of? Vivid colors and increased aesthetic and auditory perceptions?

Lately, colors and shapes are so vivid, and I feel like I experience what I see rather than just looking at it. Music makes my mind feel so open and free. Everything aesthetic seems beautiful to me.
This is a terrible comparison, but it's as if I am constantly on acid or shrooms; except it's natural and not brought on by any drugs or anything. It's not synesthesia, though I thought it was...what could this be? I have depression if that helps, and I think I might have schizophrenia (not hearing voices, but the other symptons like feeling alone or feelings of depersonalization). Please don't answer unless you actually understand what I'm talking about and don't make assumptions about depression or schizophrenia.

idk, maybe you've just learned that life is more beautiful than you thought it was, or that you view life as being very precious and finite, so that your perceptions have increased.

i wouldn't jump to conclusions about the whole schizophrenia thing. schizophrenics tend to be born with different brains and thus experience stronger perceptions from the beginning. a stronger indicator would be disorganized thoughts and nonsensical speech, as well as ill-based delusions.

anyone else taken zispin and found that they have bad side effects? eg feeling more depressed than before?

husband has been taken off fluoxetine and been put on these instead, they help him sleep but he has become even lower than before and I am really worried about him. He has been on them for a few weeks. He has been suffering depression for 4 years now since a heart attack at 36. Gp decided recently it was not due to an event as such but more of a combination of medication, he has altered some other meds as well as changing the anti depressant but he is lower than ever. Nothing makes him happy, he says he doesn't feel anything and is "devoid of all emotion" he say's he doesn't care about me or his kids and least of all himself. He will not entertain the idea of counselling. I just want the man I married back can anyone help me please? ( I have tried MIND and the uncommon forum both of which were helpful). the other name for zispin is mirtazarpine. He takes 2 15mg tablets at night. (they disolve on his tounge).

Many anti depressants can cause the 'flat' feeling your husband is describing, as well as the fatigue, and the increased depression - all of these may wear off within the first month.

I have read that Zispin - Mirtazapine, right? - is more stimulating at a higher dose. Ask your husband's prescribing doctor about this. This particular anti depressant is known to have sedating effects, which is why your husband is feeling so low.

Your husband does sound seriously depressed - I would suggest you speak to his specialist and make it clear that this medication is NOT helping. If necessary, get a second opinion. If your husband hasn't yet seen a psychiatrist, this would be a good step - a psychiatrist will know which anti depressant to prescribe.

But do ask the doctor about raising the dose of the Zispin. Don't just change the dose yourselves, only with medical guidance.

GPs are not brilliant when it comes to anti depressants; do try and get your husband to a psychiatrist. Tell him it's just for the medications, not for therapy.

experiences with Zispin (MIRTAZAPINE) anyone?

i was on prozac 60mg, 1mg rivotril and xanax as needed for about a year but have been weaned off those for the past 2 weeks and am starting mirtazipine from tomorrow, 15 mg for 2 days, 30 for another 2 days and then 45mg from then onward. the prozac had no effect on my depression and didn't help with my eating disorder either, if anything it got worse. i also suffer from panic attacks on a regular basis (thus the Xanax).
did you find mirtazapine (zispin) better than another type of antidepressant you have been on and how well does it work for the anciety i feel pretty much all the time.
any helpful comments will be welcome.

I took MIrtazapine at bedtime to help me sleep. It did help me sleep for a few years. These medications can stop working as well after a while. I am worried that if you take it during the day, it might make you feel sleepy. Be sure to discuss this with your doctor. I hope you will be feeling better. Best Wishes to you.

The test was carried out by Haukland University Hospital - Bergen in Norway.

Of course, you can get omega 3 by consuming 3 – 4 portions of oily fish per week such as:

Mackerel, sardines, trout and salmon, but the majority of people simply don’t consume enough.

The recommended daily dosage is 0.5 mgs per day and if you don’t consume a lot of oily fish, take an omega 3 supplement such as cod liver oil.

Depression and weight gain?

I am here to try to talk and find someone who has the same problems as me. If you going to be mean, please do not respond. I have suffered with depression for several years now. I am on lexapro and I have had considerable weight gain in the past few years. Most of it is because I quit exercising and have become a hermit. How To Draw From That Higher Power For A Depression Cure

In spite of the immense technological advancements and inventions designed to make our lives easier, depression still exists and millions of people are still seeking a depression cure. With all the sources of entertainment around us, depression still lurks in the core of our very existence as humans.

 

Why? Could it be that with all the technology and scientific breakthroughs that we have lost the very essence of our being as humans? That-being a deep connection with the Omnipotent.

 

This may very well be the case. We work too hard, go at neck-breaking speeds in life to get things done and never take the time to relax and draw on the Higher Power inherent within us, it is no wonder over 25 million people in the United states are depressed and consequently seeking a depression cure to end their misery.

 

Coming from a Christian background and adhering to most of its principles in my honest opinion, an answer when asking for a depression cure will be a re-connection with God, by perhaps the most powerful yet easy method that although it is as old as the mountains is still extremely effective till this day: Prayer.

 

Don't approach it by thinking that you have to say some specific verses or a bunch of "Thee's and ‘Thou's'". That's not necessary, talk to your Creator as you would your best friend and let it all out.

 

The next step will be to simply take the time out to relax.

 

I'm going to borrow from Yoga folks, and the pose here is the relaxation pose.

It involves laying flat on a bed, and consciously breathing deeply and evenly in a ratio of 5:5:5 (inhalation, retention and exhalation). You may do this accompanying a clock or a metronome. Breathe evenly as thus for several minutes, now consciously make auto-suggestions to your body starting from the toes to relax by saying mentally: "my toes are hereby relaxed, my feet are hereby relaxed etc…"

 

Do this working to the crown of your head and make sure every organ you can think of is relaxed by this auto-suggestion. Now the best part, pick one of the following quotes depending on your spiritual beliefs and repeat this to yourself…(or heck, pick them all and repeat one after the other…)

 

1. I am that pure consciousness or self.

2. I can do all things through God who strengthens me.

3. They that wait upon God shall renew their strength.

 

Repeat this ‘mantra' mentally till it seeps into your subconscious and it literally replaces the negative thoughts you may have about your problems, just as light always overcomes darkness.

 

Now, turn to your right side, breathe evenly again, then arise and approach your day believing that you are refreshed and drawing upon that higher power for a depression cure.

 

Friends, this is very important, that you believe you are healed, just like a child believes the pain felt earlier has been cured by Mom kissing it away. Yes, such a child-like faith is required. Child-like but folks, powerful! It's been written: "According to your faith be it unto you" (this is a basic law of successful living.)

 

In addition to this, to co-operate with the Higher Power in healing you, you've got to meet this Power halfway. Make efforts to better yourself. Let's get back to the basics folks, exercise, eating right and positive thinking. In regards to a depression cure, you may have to supplement drawing upon that Higher Power with seeking good company, sources of laughter and a wise avoidance of those factors or people that bring you down.

 

A depression cure is within reach, the power which has its roots in the Omnipotent and Unseen is right there inside of you. With the tips above, you can draw from it, solve your problems and lead a depression free life.
