Anxiety - Do you want to overcome your social phobia?

If fear of rejection led you to get away from people, especially groups, there are several specific things you can do.
First, you must create a sense of your own value. In addition to this, cognitive-behavioral offers three types of interventions:

• Social skills training

• Noted exposure to social situations

• Cognitive-behavioral group therapy

Training social skills may be appropriate if you feel at a loss about how to converse with people in small groups or large. You can acquire skills to start and maintain conversations, the development of other people, listening, maintaining eye contact, and reach the revelation of self in the role play of these skills with a family member or therapist.

You can also role play activities more specific such as interviewing for a job, using conversation at a party, or ask someone on a date. Once you gain confidence in these skills with a supportive friend or a therapist, you can start experimenting in real life.

Graded exposure to social situations is to implement a series of special activities that you undertake to do either with a therapist or on your own. Series activities are organized in a hierarchy "from easiest to most difficult. A typical hierarchy might look like this:

CONVERSATIONS OPEN:

1. Call two stores to ask if something is in stock.

2. Call a hotline counseling and talk about yourself.

3. Attend a small meeting and say your name.

4. Attend a small meeting and make two observations.

5. Repeat 3 and 4 with a small group of friends.

6. Attend a social event and stay for twenty minutes.

7. Same as 6, but remain one hour to respond when others talk about you.

8. Same as 7, but you commit at least two conversations.

9. Initiate conversations with people waiting in line that you do not know.

10. Go to someone in a mall and make conversation.

You can also build a hierarchy for a specific type of behavior, breaking down into a series of steps. For example, in learning to ask someone for a date, you can practice with individuals listed by a dating service before try walking to someone at a party.

therapy group cognitive-behavioral, if available in your area, is Perhaps the best way to overcome social anxiety and fear of participating in groups. In such a group as you work on a social challenge and fight against phobic ability to think self-statements such as "I'll humiliate myself," People will think I'm weird because I do not know what say "or" What if they see me blush? "

In addition, train yourself to speak up, expressing your ideas, support conversations, by asking what you want, Responding to criticism, and engage in other activities related to participation in groups. By constantly doing activities that you've avoided a support group, you can learn to desensitize them and gain confidence yourself.

If the therapy group cognitive-behavioral are not available in your area, you can always work with a therapist experience working with social anxiety or social phobia. Then you can try what you have learned in the community groups, starting situations that you consider "easy" and progressing to other more difficult.

Learning to speak or to express your ideas, for example, can be performed first in a class or workshop, and finally to a meeting of Toastmasters or a similar training in public speaking.

overcoming shyness long or social anxiety requires effort and sustained commitment on your part. You may find it a little easier under advice from a competent therapist cognitive-behavioral who is familiar with social anxiety and social phobia. In some cases, drugs may also be useful.

Current treatment strategies for social anxiety over severe combined treatment with an SSRI as Paxil (or a benzodiazepine such as Klonopin). This combination of therapy and medication seems to be very effective for many people.
