What are panic attacks?

When adrenalin floods your body, it can cause a number of different physical and emotional sensations that may affect you during a panic attack.
Panic attacks come on very quickly, symptoms usually peaking within 10 minutes. Panic attacks can last for between five and 20 minutes, but some people report attacks lasting for up to an hour. You may have one or two panic attacks and never experience another, or you may have attacks once a month or several times each week.
This is one of the most distressing aspects of suffering from panic attacks - they may seem completely unpredictable, and therefore uncontrollable.
How do panic attacks become a problem?
A high level of adrenalin is not in itself a bad thing. It can give you the extra energy to deal with difficult demands and challenges. The damage is done when the levels of adrenalin don't fall, naturally, after a stressful event, and your body becomes a human pressure cooker. Do you get panic attacks, and how do you manage them?
How do you manage your panic attacks? Ive had them sense i was a child, im 24 now. Mine are very very random, Ive had as meny as 3 a day, then not had one for 4 months. I have a prescription for Xanax to take when i get one, an that seems to work very well but there are times were it still doesnt calm me down.
My question is, how do you control yours?

Hey ! yah I can telll when they are coming on & I have no idea what causes mine . I usually have to breath & tell myself " you are ok , You are ok " to myself in my head of course , then I have to close my eyes . Sometimes they are really bad though & i have to call someone so they can sort of soothe me & calm me down . One night my friends mom let me come sleep on her couch ! that had to be the most embarrassing . I am 24 as welll .
