My dr. prescribed me originally half of 0.5 mg tablet twice a day. I emailed her and said that it didnothing for me and she upped me to,two full 0.5 mg daily.I may be noticing a tiny (very tiny) difference but nothing signifigant. Im trying to figure out if im just on a really low dose and what the average dosage for extreme anxiety and agitation is. The Dark Night: the Sinister Side of Sleeping Pills
Five years ago I quit a cocktail of sleeping pills and anxiety medications and felt my world implode. I’ve had 34 surgeries on my spine and legs and thought I was strong. But I was not prepared for the horrific withdrawals from these medications. For many months I questioned my sanity without any belief that I could regain my cognitive function or normal sleep patterns. I am a writer and I lost that magical connection to the written word. It was the blackest of times, filled with the deepest despair.
I was not a drinker nor did I doctor-shop, and I always waited for a consultation with my pharmacist to confirm my combination of medications was safe. Yet after a decade on the pills, I felt consumed by this chemical straightjacket and wanted my life back.
All I was seeking was a good night’s sleep and instead I became trapped by medications I initially believed were my salvation. It started with one prescription, and as my body reached tolerance and the pills stopped working, others were added. By the end I was taking Ambien, Klonopin (Clonazepam), Restoril (Temazepam), Sinequan (Doxepin), Effexor, OxyContin, and Norco (Hydrocodone). I rarely slept and incessantly paced my home, filled with anxiety. I aged rapidly and my pain level soared, but it was the all-consuming fear that I found most debilitating. I became agoraphobic and did not leave my home.
My cocktail of medications was similar to Heath Ledger’s and it saddens me greatly that he lost his life to prescription drugs. I’ve read interviews where Ledger spoke of his raging insomnia, and I knew that he found himself in the same trap I had faced. Even his appearance deteriorated as mine had. How I lived through my debacle is a mystery, but it had such a profound impact that I began an organization to help others escape the clutch of this epidemic.
Ironically, mercury poisoning was the cause of my insomnia, but I would not discover this for many years. Instead, I became a willing participant to a chemical experiment that ripped through my world. Unfortunately the same is happening to millions of other people and often starts with insomnia.
The sleeping prescription pill market is an enormous industry and we are essentially supporting products that are slowly hurting us. I didn’t know that forcing my brain into submission was not true sleep, but that natural sleep is a complex mechanism triggered by a group of hormones that create a state of rest for the body and mind. ile the brain undergoes a cycle of brainwave activity that includes dreaming. The heart and lungs slow and our normally active brainwave patterns diminish tremendously, until we dream. To compound matters, sleeping pills only induce sleep an average of 12 minutes quicker and 30 minutes longer than without them. But chemical dependency can occur within three consecutive nights of use, causing painful rebound insomnia, raging anxiety, and memory impairment.
Many people add herbs and over-the-counter medications in an attempt to gain a few hours of needed rest. It is not that herbs are dangerous—that is a misconception. But most people do not realize there is risk of a serious interaction when sleep medications are combined with items like passionflower, valerian, or antihistamines. Sleeping pills and benzodiazepines accentuate the GABA neurotransmitter, which keeps the nerve cells in the lung tissue from firing. I remember clearly wishing I had been an illegal drug addict, as the cold-turkey withdrawals would have passed quickly. The only safe way to withdraw from these medications is through a gradual taper, which allows the brain and body a chance to adjust at each level of reduction.
It wasn’t my path to have an easy withdrawal, and I firmly believe the reason was to help address this epidemic of pill usage. I’ve worked with people from all over the world who are addicted to these medications. Most are taking one or two prescriptions and suffering the same intensity of symptoms I did on a cocktail of drugs. I realized long ago that any dose of sleep medication is dangerous.
In spite of the fact that I made every step of my medication journey improperly, I also made it back to complete health. I no longer suffer from pain, anxiety, or insomnia. My sleep patterns have returned, and at the age of 50, I feel better than I have in 20 years. I'm sure that there are thousands of people out there around this country and the world that are currently on Klonopin or Xanax. Personally, I don't mind seeing people take these type of medications if they are going through a tough period in their life such as a death in the family or loss of job. What I do have a problem with is people getting hooked on this medication - and it can easily happen. The symptoms of Benzodiazepines is sometimes tough to handle and you do need some help along the way.
I know all too well about what these two medications do to people since I am currently on Klonopin. It's a little embarrassing to write about, but I've come to a place where I am slowly tapering off of Klonopin - so I think it's high time to help other people that are on either of these medications to get off these things for good.
I'll first talk about how I started taking Xanax. I've always been an anxious individual all my life compounded with being diagnosed with Social Anxiety. My high school years were horrible in the fact that I was scared to talk in class or in any group of people. I would have panicattacks if a teacher called on me during class. Things didn't get better when I went to College - in fact, it got worse. It got so bad that I went to the University therapist - which really didn't do anything for me.
Fast forward to my mid twenties, I woke up one morning and told myself that I had enough of being anxious and having panic attacks - and that I wanted to go to the doctor and get him to give me a "magic pill" to relieve the things I was going through. And so I did.
A couple days later I walked out of the doctors office with a prescription of Xanax in my hand. The first month was like a godsend to me. However, I learned quickly that I had to back off from taking more since I was getting use to the medication. Then I hit a brick wall. Whenever I didn't take the medication, my skin felt like it was crawling. I also felt disoriented along with my speech slurring a bit. It was horrible.
I lived this way for a few years until I decided to go on a less potent medicine named Klonopin. For me, at least it was better when I laid off of it for a couple days, but it still was bad. I would go cold turkey for three or four straight days, and my head would be pounding and I was extremely sick. One thing that wouldn't go away would be the constant disorientation - that was my major withdrawal symptom.
I finally came to grips that I had to do something about these symptoms. How I started back on the road of recovery was by meditating. Every time I took less Klonopin (especially on my days off), I would meditate when the symptoms would come back. I would imagine myself going through the day without the symptoms - then imagine myself throwing the bottle of Klonopin away. When I finished my mediation (or self-hypnosis) - I would walk downstairs and always talk to my wife. She would mention that I acted better - and she was right, because I felt better after relaxing my body and mind.
Meditation has helped me over the years. Sure, the symptoms would come back within a few hours (after I finished my meditation session), but I would go back to my study, put on my head phones and listen to a hypnosis CD and just relax. That sure beat taking another dose of Klonopin.
After six months of utilizing meditation, I went from taking six mgs per day to three. Now, I'm not giving meditation the all the credit here, there was another thing I had to do. That was reducing my intake of Klonopin. I slowly withdrew by.25 mgs every two or three months - and that was tough to do. There were times when I would go down to a certain amount and I just couldn't take it, I would go back to my previous amount.
Today, I still struggle, but I'm glad to say that I'm on my way of kicking Klonopin out of my life. I'm down to 1.5 mgs per day and when I don't have to go into work, I take.75 mgs. Every now and then I may skip taking the medication altogether for a day, but if I enter the second day without taking Klonopin, I'll get my butt kicked. So please take Klonopin every day, even if you are trying to withdrawal from this horrible medication.
Lastly, I would like to say that one should never go cold turkey. The journals and cases I've read, that's a big no-no. Always withdrawal slowly from Klonopin. Again, for me, I would taper.25 mgs every two months. Also, whenever you feel the symptoms coming back to haunt you, try to find a place where you can get away - then relax your body and your mind - take a few deep breaths, and imagine your world without Klonopin. This will help you tremendously as it has helped me. However, what has worked with me may not work for you. We are all made differently. Before withdrawing from Xanax or Klonopin, please consult your doctor.

Concept Analysis Of Anxiety
I. Abstract
The paper is an examination of anxiety as a concept. This report began with a definition of the concept and some statistics surrounding the prevalence of anxiety among patients. Thereafter, the paper looked at observational traits of the disease. Thereafter, it was necessary to look at its occurrence in three different case studies; i.e. a typical case study with no other medical conditions, a contrary case study with other medical conditions and borderline case study where an individual registered two types of anxiety disorders. This paper will be useful in nursing education because it will contribute towards concept analysis, it will be insightful in research and management because it will provide new information about how to handle different conditions of the disorder.
A Definition and background
Anxiety is a condition in which an individual is in a constant state of worry or is always nervous regardless of normal actions. This state of anxiety eventually leads to anxiety disorders which are then regarded as emotional or psychological health conditions.
Anxiety and anxiety related disorders are one of the most common mental reasons for seeing medical professionals today. This is why recent statistics indicate that about a quarter of the country's population have exhibited symptoms of anxiety disorders. It is a worrying trend for nursing practitioners specifically and for the medical profession in general because it signifies serious mental health problems. (Hayes & Strosahl, 2004)
One of the major reasons for these excessive occurrences is that society's demands have changed. Today's working environment is more demanding than ever before. Relationships are becoming increasingly difficult to maintain thus serving as fertile ground for propagating anxiety. Anxiety may occur in various forms. Sometimes, it may be exhibited as a mild case, in other scenarios, it can progress to become severe and can impede one's day to day life. Anxiety usually manifests itself in the form of a series of disorders most of which include; phobias, generalized anxiety disorder, post traumatic stress disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder and separation anxiety disorder. Some of the latter mentioned forms exhibit more or less the same symptoms. Consequently, one can deal with them as distinct groups.
B Purpose of the analysis
The purpose of the analysis is to demystify anxiety as a clinical disease. The research will give some insights into various features of the concept. It will also examine the consequences of anxiety on patients. These will all be analyzed though the use of typical cases, non-typical cases and cases that lie in between. Additionally, the empirical referents relating to this concept (anxiety) will be examined in greater detail.
III. Literature review
Fox (2001) asserts that the major characteristics in almost all persons who suffer from anxiety is the existence of fear. All individuals are faced with fear at one point or another in their lives. However, those who are controlled by it are said to be suffering from anxiety or anxiety disorders. (Craske and Barlow, 2003) This fear is so intense that it hampers the person from performing their daily obligations or roles.
In certain scenarios, anxiety may be manifested in the form of tension or anticipation about a certain issue. The latter form is mild. In other instances, anxiety may be exhibited by acute panicattacks. Bourne (2000) explains that the following physical symptoms are prevalent in a number of patients diagnosed with anxiety

Headaches
Loss of appetite
Stomach upsets
Lack of sleep
Diarrhea
Muscle aches
Besides these symptoms, acute cases of fear among patients with anxiety disorders may be depicted. For instance, certain individuals get panic attacks. When this occurs they may begin having a dry mouth, experience numbness in their bodies, difficulty breathing, chest discomfort, racing hearts, disorientation, low concentration spans, dizziness and unsteadiness. (Hoffman & Barlow, 1999)
Many writers also assert that the largest percentage of cases of anxiety are characterized by cognitive traits where cognitive refers to matters concerning the mind. When anxiety strikes, certain ideas or images are usually present in one's mind. Usually, anxious individuals think that some danger may befall them or the person they care about. (Chorpita & Barlow, 1998) This is usually depicted as a phobia where an individual believes that something dangerous may happen to them even when the chances of its occurrence are quite slim. In order words, one of the major cognitive characteristics is possession of irrational thoughts. Such person usually distort actual facts and lack control over their thoughts. (Bourne, 2000)
It should be noted that these cognitive traits are not beyond the sufferer of the anxiety disorder. In fact, these patients are well aware of the excessiveness of their thoughts. However, they lack the ability to limit these excesses and usually continue thinking about the issue regardless of its irrationality.
Kearney et al (1997) claim that social phobias may occur when individuals fear circumstances surrounding social situations. For instance, one may assume that they can get embarrassed by interacting with others. Also, there may be a scenario in which one fears failure or garnering approval from one's peers.
In panic attacks, Craske et al (1991) explain that when individuals get panic attacks, they are likely to imagine that they are on the verge of death, loosing control or going crazy. The latter authors have also highlighted the issue agoraphobic thoughts. Here, the individual under attack will usually operate under the fear of another panic attack and may require the presence of another individual in order to stop them. Also, such individuals usually assume that these are things that present constant danger in their lives.
Barlow and Lehman (1996) claim that obsessive compulsive thoughts are also another unique cognitive trait. Here, one cannot seem to stop the continuous thoughts about a certain issue which they are obsessed about. For instance, one may be constantly thinking of getting violent with another person or with oneself. Also, such persons may be obsessed about their daily responsibilities, religion, appearance, death, illness, germs, contamination and many other examples.
Campbell and Barlow (2000) explain that such persons with post traumatic stress disorder may be fixated with flashbacks on a traumatic event. Consequently, such person may have difficulties sleeping and may even report cases of night mares. Furthermore, it is possible to find that these people may blame themselves for the traumatic event.
Generalized anxiety disorders are usually manifested amongst people who have worries about general issues in their lives. For instance, such persons may worry about their financial situations, their health etc. (Bourne, 2000)
It should be noted that the latter forms of anxiety disorder are reflected differently depending on a number of demographic traits. For instance, age is an important factor because children's forms of anxiety disorders are manifested in unique forms; some of them may be afraid of monsters in the closet or eyes watching them at night. Children may also express these anxieties in totally different manners from their adult counterparts. Gender is another important demographic trait. Women are more concerned with certain obsessions or thoughts in comparison to their male counterparts. Also, cultural influenced have a large part to play. Carske et al (1991) explain that what may be deemed as a critical issue in one society may be completely unimportant in another. Consequently, care must be taken to ensure that each and every case it treated uniquely.
Certain behavioral traits are synonymous with individuals as explained by Andrews et al (2003) The latter authors assert that some people may choose not to go to a certain place if there is likelihood that that place may have things which they are afraid of. The late stages of this anxiety disorders can also be characterized by depression where the person feels that they have lost control of their lives.
If a person was suffering from generalized anxiety disorder and has reached their last stages, then that person is likely to spiral into depression. In certain circumstances, that person may begin recording other mental difficulties even when those difficulties had been non –existent before. Also, such a person my appear tired all the time, they may begin depending on drugs to cope with their anxiety and some of them may centre their lives around that thing that they worry about. For instance, if the anxiety is about finances, then everything their family does will be linked to finances and their need to conserve it.

The consequences of anxiety disorder vary from individual to individual and also depend upon what an individual did to cope with the anxiety. If an anxiety disorder is detected during earlier stages, then chances are that the person can deal with it either through pharmacology or psychological and thus curb the problem. However, if the person allows the situation to spiral out of control i.e. to reach its last stages, then anxieties can bring with it other mental health and social problems. George feels that in case he looses his job, he may not be able to secure another one that offers him generous financial rewards as the one he is currently holding.
Besides these symptoms, George has begun registering high blood pressure. He has been unable to cope with the pressure at work because he can no longer complete the work that he used to complete in the past. This means that he has not been able to meet his deadlines adequately. Additionally, George has recorded some heart palpitations that occur from time to time.
These are also symptoms of General anxiety disorder. (Kaplan and Saddocks, 2003)

What's worse on your body to control anxiety? Klonopin Or Alcohol?
I'm prescribed Klonopin (clonazepam) 1 1/2 .5 mg tablets per day which is definantly not even touching the volume or anxiety I have.
My old doctor had me on 3 1 mg Tablets per day, which worked better but I find myself taking 2 mg to 3 mg to control my attacks sometimes multiple time's a day.
Because I don't have insurance yet with my job I have to deal with a state issued doctor, and she doesn't exactly like giving out clonazepam to anyone so lately I've been turning to Alcohol to control the outbreaks.
I really have no other option because I'm lucky my current doctor even give's me the Klonopin and there's no way she would up the dosage (I've asked before multiple time's)
I'm also on 100mg of Lamictal in the morning and 100 mg of seraquel at night.
So my question is,
Which is worse for your body? Liver, Kidneys Ect.
Or does anyone have any suggestions?

Both drugs alcohol and clonazepam actually worsen anxiety in the long run. Both drugs with long term use cause changes in personality worsening of cognitive skills, depression and worsening of anxiety. As to which is worse is a matter for debate. I have known alcoholics to say benzodiazepines are harder to come off of. Clonazepam is a benzodiazepine by the way.
Alcohol definately is more toxic to organs than benzodiazepines. Once she was coming home my sister (who is 18) was talking to me like I am a child. She is 18 but irresponsible. So my little sister then decided to freak at me because I was sitting in my room just after cleaning it a bit. She yelled and said "YOU GOT ME TO COME HOME AND YOU ARN'T EVEN CLEANING!!" So I shut the door on her face because I couldn't handle being yelled at right now.... i just started high school and missed about 2 days because i got sick. I went through a period of about 4 days last week of having to urinate every 30-60 Min's and also having a constant thirst. I really got worried i could be a diabetic.

Hiya, okay I'm no expert, but it sounds like the thirstiness was a side-effect from the medication, and therefore you would have to pee more, the fact you have anxiety would have made you more worried about it, but if your fasting blood sugar level was 6.5, it's not the best (anything over 5.5 may suggest later problems and risks, however anything under 7 is considered reasonable. Because it is over 5.5 (this is according to a newspaper article), it is recommended you get checked out by the doctor just in case. Tips on Buying a Used Cat!
My cat Spike was previously owned, but in good condition. He wasn't shaking or throwing up on the floor or having some kind of a fit. For a cat in an animal shelter he seemed to be in pretty good shape! The animal services people said that he was available for adoption which made me wonder if the other animals in the cages were doomed already.
Adoption is just another word for a cat sale! They didn't want us to think this was a business arrangement, so they dulled the verbiage by telling us we were giving him a new home and a future; even hinting that if we didn't take him, he would be meeting the grim reaper the next day.
First Tip: Know what you're going to be spending and decide if the kitten is worth the money, as well as the cat hair on your new sofa when you get home.
The cat cost me almost $100 before I could even get him into the car, which to my way of thinking, I had just bought a cat. Adoption fees, city license fees and county license fees, worming and a few other medical necessities amounted to $115.00. The coupon they gave me to have him neutered would save me $20.00, but would still cost $30.00.
Any way I looked at this arrangement, we were talking about big money and I hadn't even bought any kitty litter or cat food! I was beginning to wonder if I had been scammed. This kitten certainly didn't look like he was worth a hundred dollars. Also someone obviously of limited intelligence had named this kitten Donnie! I immediately changed his name to Spike, which he seemed to appreciate.
Second Tip: Make sure the cat of your choice is in good mental health. That's right, I said mental health. According to animal experts, cats can stress out and go bonkers just like us humans. I wasn't aware of such a thing when I picked Spike out of the line-up at the shelter, but it could explain why sometimes when he's sleeping he will suddenly sit up and then bolt from his bed like its on fire!
Cat anxiety is evidently a fairly common malady for felines. Spike rarely appears anxious unless one of the raccoons that have invaded the woods in our back yard snarls at him over a bit of his cat food. He almost lost a leg to one of these food bandits a couple of years ago and since then he stays out of their way when they visit his garage at night. Othewise he seems pretty laid back.
Occasionally he'll scratch the side of our antique couch when we least expect it. I think he's just trying to get attention from us, which he does when my wife grabs the broom and swats him out the door.
I asked a veterinarian about this behavior and he said that Spike was probably suffering some kind of emotional stress. He wrote me a prescription for valium. He said if he showed any other emotional distress he would increase the dosage. That's all I need; a stoned cat!
Tip Three: Physical Health: Although it's impossible to tell just how healthy the cat you're interested in buying is, you have to hope that it's good enough to qualify him for health insurance. Spike appeared to be healthy when I bought him so I thought I wouldn't have to spend much money on his up-keep.
Then the raccoons and monstrous veterinarian bills arrived. After one of them chewed on his leg in a dispute over Meow Mix, I discovered that having a little insurance was probably a good thing. I also discovered that pet insurance is a lot like human health insurance in that there is a pre-existing clause. Even though Spike had never had an injury to his leg, the insurance company refused to pay for the medical attention he received, using the old "pre-existing" excuse!
Whether you buy your cat at a pet store or an animal shelter, it's going to cost you money, worry and time. Sometimes I think raising a kid is cheaper and they won't leave hair on your couch!

How do you stop a male cat from sucking himself.?
Recently adopted two male kittens (14 weeks old now). One of them tends to suck himself periodically in his "special" place.
Sometimes he falls asleep in that position. Not kidding.
Looking for ways to deter him from it. The vet checked him out last week, he didn't say much about. Something about anti-anxiety pills if it continues
He has shown signs of diarrhea which the vet attributed to possible worms. But he's had his second round of worm shots and still has it. Taking him back to the vet in 2 weeks.
Thanks for the spraying suggestion (MrChumpboy - bitter apple). I wouldn't want to discourage him from *cleaning* the area. But I don't think we can have it both ways.
There's always the "radar dish cone" that you can put around his head that could help break the habbit. You could also try spraying something that tastes bad on his "special area" something like what many pet owners use called "bitter apple." You can find it in most pet stores. You might also want to ask people at your local pet shop to. It'd be nice if you could see using drugs as a last alternative.

I have always been over anxious and shy. In my earliest memories I remember getting stomach ache and feeling terrible from it.
I think its hereditary but I also had things that made my childhood difficult. No matter how many activities I was enrolled in, I never managed to feel like I was part of a group.
I wouldn't want my children to have the same anxiety and shyness I experienced as I grew up. What can I do to avoid them having to go thrue this?

To avoid shyness,encourage the child to to the things when they feel shy about something and appreciate while they doing it...say that you had seen things like that and your child's is better than that.
Grow them in a way that they ll know what parents(you) expect from them or what is good and try to manage themselves in your absence also.This brings responsibility and avoids shyness and finding new ways to do things helps overcoming anxiety.
Find their passions and likes and help them getting satisfied in that.Then they'll feel self-consistent and will grow bold and could lead others how to workout things.
